Came here for lunch and started with the queso which was ok very runny white cheese I've definitely had a lot better queso at other Mexican restaurants. The chips and red salsa was good and the chips were very fresh. I then orders the Texas fajitas (chicken, steak and shrimp) and that was again just ok. There wasn't any flavor and I had to add salt. The shrimp were the best part of the fajitas. The chicken and steak were cut so thin that both meats were tough and not good. I also ordered a side cheese enchilada that I really couldn't eat as it had a different flavor red sauce than I'm used to for enchiladas. Almost tasted like their was cinnamon in the enchilada sauce. I love Mexican food and being from Texas there are tons of Mexican restaurants. Comparing this to those that I go too when I'm in Texas it just isn't as good. I will say that the service was good and everyone was very nice. If I came back it would maybe be for chips and salsa and a margarita. read more

The only positive thing i can say about our lunch experience is the service. The food came out very quickly. The white sauce was inedible (I like it at nearly every other Mexican restaurant in VA). The cheese sauce is watery, the beans tasted like they were straight out of a can. There was nothing fresh about anything we ordered. He got a carnitas burrito with jalapenos on it, which were from a jar- not fresh. I got a chicken chimichanga with old tomatoes and wilted lettuce on it. After passing by here many times I decided to give them a try for lunch. I was seated immediately and my nachos and salsa came out with my waiter to take my order for a drink. By the time he returned I was ready to order. My order came out 10 mins later. That's quick service, especially when you done have a long lunch break. Okay so the past few times I have been here service was okay, food mediocre and prices were high for your typical Mexican Cuisine so it's not my first choice place for Mexican. However, meeting another couple I decided to give it another chance. To my surprise when I checked in I received my first Yelp offer that said $5 for $30 PURCHASE and thought maybe things are turning around, well I was wrong. My food was good, but not so much my fiancé that is also a Yelper so I'm sure he will tell you all about his food tonight also. I'll just skip ahead to checkout I get my bill and it's about $50 I said okay well I surpassed the amount needed and I'll just tip big. I got to register and see the guy ring me up I hand him my phone here him mumble different amounts and hangs my bill back with $5 off WOW I expected to pay the first $5 and whatever went over the $30 so I was expecting like a $25 bill. People don't be fooled or redeem any offers at this place, I will not be going again. The best part of tonight were my margaritas that I can get at a bar anyway so I'll just stick to my home at El Nopal a family owned business that greets you by name (we're regulars) friendly, food is pretty freaking fabulous, great service and prices that will keep you coming back! This is a sad excuse for a Mexican restaurant. The menu sounds good, but when you get your food your in for a bland disappointment. Ordered tacos they came with no lettuce, sour cream, cheese, just some pico and flavorless beans. The flank steak on the tacos was tough and not seasoned. I've had better food in a hospital. I would like to see Gordon Ramsey try the food here and flip out on them. Mexican food should emphasize fresh tasty ingredients and make use of spices this place doesn't. Shocking to believe that this is the RVA area's #1 Mexican place must be the only one around or people here have no taste buds. Really disappointed, read all the reviews was in the area thought I'd give it a try. Started with the chorizo dip and a couple margaritas should have stopped there. Margaritas were watered down, the chorizo dip wasn't even a dip really. I'm not sure how the sign says they are voted best in RVA. LaLo's is way better. Its not really authentic Mexican, Tex-mex, Baja, maybe it's really regionalized for taste. I've had better enchiladas from gas stations in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas. read more

My dad heard good things about Mexico after moving to town, so we gave it a try tonight for dinner. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Their burritos weren't over sauced like so many other places. My husband and I dined in two nights ago. The salsa was really good and I ordered the steak fajitas quesadilla and it was very good. The only thing I can say is I got more vegetables then steak. My husband got the steak fajitas and he enjoyed his meal. The cost was 30.00 and I got water so I thought just a little overpriced for the lack of steak in my entree. Stayed at a hotel nearby and this place was walking distance. I ordered the the plate of carnitas and a regular margarita. The food was okay, but there were a few things about the restaurant that was a little odd. The salsa and queso that they set on the table tasted as though it was from a can. The queso tasted very sweet, which was weird. The carnitas plate had a description in the menu that mentions pickled jalapeños, but they tasted and looked the same as jalapeños that you buy at grocery store, I don't believe that they pickle them there. Why put it in the entree description if it's not made there? The margarita was strong and cheap, but it tasted like it was from a mix and came out almost immediately, so I would guess that it was from a mix. Service was very fast, and my order was not something that I would expect to be made to order. But judging by what I saw, my guess is that a lot of their food is probably not made there, or made fresh. When they set my plate down, the server was wearing oven mitts because the plate was extremely hot which indicated to me that it was microwaved. Since my food would not have been made to order, I guess that's fine? I just feel like that's not typical at a restaurant. Wow...the food was so bad. I was there with two of my friends and it was a cross between gross and fair. Let me explain; I got I ordered a three item combo and the tamale was cold in center with brown gravy on it, the enchilada was weird tasting, and the burrito (which was the same size as the enchilada) had a red sauce that smelled and tasted like marinara sauce (not even salsa like). I also had a margarita and it tasted like a lemonade with lime syrup and a shot which was ummm...tequila? My friend had mama's pollo sopas. Hard to mess up right? Well it was chicken soup with no cilantro, avacado, lime, corn tortilla. I don't get what makes this mexican? I can go to cracker barrel and get better and maybe even more authentic? Other friend ordered a happy hour taco...the meat was cold too (same meat as mine). She would have taken it back but it was only $1.75. We have only ever had take out from here and I must say, they do not provide any less service by such means. Absolutely outstanding staff who are accommodating and always accurate with their order taking skills. We have never had to come back because something was missed, they're on it every time. As for the food...it's incredible. The rice is especially tasty and mouth watering, and their salsa is one of the bests I've ever had. I will say it has a good bit of cilantro in it, so it some times interrupts the flavor but it's always good regardless. Highly, highly recommend! read more

This is my favorite Mexican go to place for lunch on the east end of town. I frequent here 2-3 times per month. The food is standard Mexican food that you can find in most Mexican restaurants at reasonably low prices but the service is very quick. There is normally zero wait time and food is delivered 5-10 minutes from ordering. Recently I visited here and they had the World Cup 2018 soccer tournament on the televisions in each room.
