My wife & I have had Mexican food all over the US & Mexico & this is our favorite restaurant. It's very clean, the service is very friendly & the food is inexpensive & authentic & very good. We've been going to Mexico Uno for at least 30 years & the food is always great. I love the pico. I've tried almost everything on the menue & like most of it. I give this four stars with the stipulation that t this is not fine dining. it's a "hole in the wall" type of place with very straightforward Mexican fare. With that being said its a family friendly place that provides descent and sometimes excellent fare for a reasonable price. Fish tacos are nice. Fish is fresh, grilled (or sautéed hard to tell) and taste excellent. The chicken soup entree is hearty and clearly homemade. Tacos and tostadas are good with chicken being a highlight. I agree with some other reviewers that the pico is too small and its spicy (which I like). The other sauce provided is just straight tomato sauce (really we asked!). Try the sauce in the squeeze bottle which I think is excellent. read more

Pretty good little Mexican joint. Not the best you'll have but it's better and cheaper than Toreo. I got the sampler once and the the enchiladas the first time. So far the enchiladas and tacos have been the best. Wife doesn't like the place as much as me but she says 3.5 stars. Good margs too. I only wish they had a better salsa for the chips. My girlfriend and I were in the mood for Mexican after a day at Arlington Park, and saw that this place had good reviews. The minute we walked in the doors we were greeted with amazing service. The place had the feeling of being owned and run by a family, and they did everything they could to make you feel like you were a part of them. It was as if you were visiting them in their home, and they were cooking just for you. It is a small place, but well decorated. We did not have to wait long on a Friday night to get a seat. One family tried to come in and take our table that was being prepared for us, but the staff kindly asked them to wait while we were seated. The only reason that it is not 5 stars is the food. Visited my daughter who moved back to Chicago and we wanted to try a New Mexican restaurant and wanted to eat downtown Palatine so this was the choice. Went on a Saturday for lunch and ordered fish tacos and burritos. Loved the fish tacos and could only eat 2 because they were so filling. We also had the guacamole which was very good but overpriced at $8 for the portion. Next time will pass on the guacamole. Service was good overall, good experience but I felt like they needed to do a deep cleaning on the interior of the restaurant. read more

Fantastic " authentic" Mexican food!!! If you love Taco Bell... you'll hate this place. This is as authentic as they come. You're supposed to doctor up your tacos. Plenty of salsas , picos, sauces to enhance your dinning . That's how tacos are made . This isn't Taco Bell people. So for those of you that are complaining about. $3 taco being bland.... you've missed the whole Mexican thing. So many tasty dishes. The pork in the green sauce is to die for. The caldo ( chicken or beef soup) is a delight that will have you coming back! The family that owns it is so polite, friendly and work so hard. I like everything I've tried on the menu, but I usually get the tacos. I like their horchata best out of all the Mexican restaurants in the area. My wife is a big fan of their chicken burritos, which I agree are really good. The staff are some of the friendliest around. I like my food a little spicier than how it's prepared, so I always use the hot sauce on the table. read more

Very nice dinner. Small local mexican restaurant. No bells and whistles but if you are looking for that hit a Chi-Chi's. There were tons a options and everything tasted fresh. Just finished my first few tacos from here. They were absolutely wonderful. I have a strange affinity for chiles rellenos, so I ordered one chiles rellenos taco and two steak. The chiles rellenos was one of the best tacos I've ever had. The steak was great too... juicy meat with virtually none of the cheap, fatty gristle usually plaguing steak at mexican restaurants. Mexico Uno is probably one of the best of its kind without going to Chicago Ridge or Oak Lawn for amazing, authentic Mexican food. There chips and salsa was a splash! I didn't have time to try a margarita but I will definitely keep you informed. The food was simply delicious. I was at this place last night with a group of friends...I'll keep this review simple and direct. The food sucks...zero flavor, and I mean literally zero. From the chips and salsa to the crap they call guacamole right up to the entrée. Absolutely horrible. I sampled my entire party's choices and none of them had any flavor at all. I worked around the corner from Mexico Uno for 10 years and I eat here at least 3-4 times a week. They are the nicest and friendliest family I know. The food is so good and always ready for pickup within 5 minutes. Get the ceviche on Friday and Saturday no matter what! Taco salad, steak and avocado tacos and their nachos are awesome!! The only thing I miss about not working in downtown Palatine is Mexico Uno! read more
