Salsa Street is a cute place! It's small inside, but offers both tables and booths. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We received complimentary chips and salsa before ordering a guacamole appetizer and our main dishes - chicken enchilada for me and a burrito for my friend. The food was good, but the decor was more memorable, with festive colors and a random life-sized cutout of Kevin Hart holding a giant margarita right behind my seat in a booth. We have been to the Dundee location a few times and my work has gotten take out from this location (the first time I ever had it) Still one of my favorite Mexican restaurants around. This was the first time we have been to the Palatine location. it doesn't look like much on the outside or inside but the food is great. Service was quick and attentive, it was later on a week night and there was only a few other tables filled. I love their black beans, I think they are the best I have ever had and the cilantro rice is excellent as well. Since we have noit been in a long time I didn't deviate from things I had and love. The 3 taco platter with One Wild Mushroom, Queso Fresco and Relleno Taco. All were just so good, the Queso Fresco with the carnalized cheese alvacado and elote is just a stunning taco. WOW. I mean, just WOW. Let me start by saying my fiancé and I have tried every Mexican restaurant within a 10 mile radius of this place, so you could say we've tried a taco or two. This place is fantastic!!! Some other reviews mention the food as "upscale Mexican street food", which I think is partially an understatement because the quality of the food and service were through the roof! The street taco recipes give you many options to choose from so you can't go wrong. AND you should enjoy dining out of their patio - either under the sun - if you are so inclined - or under their tent. Where do I begin? The food was actually quite tasting. Not exceptional but good. The serves was very friendly. And when they made an error on one of our orders, they corrected it without question. But the serves was so unbelievably slow, it bordered on insulting. Yes, it was Cinco de Mayo but this restaurant was no where near filled to capacity. There are three other Mexican restaurants in the same area, La Presa, Isla Veracruz and Tacos del Norte, and any one of them would have provided faster service with food just as good or better. Do not come to this establishment. First of all, it is not clear that there are two Mexican restaurants side-by-side. I was in between business appointments, and I was eating by myself. Usually, I would use the restroom prior to going to my table so that I don't have to leave my purse and coat unattended. I went into the restroom and the owner followed me into the restroom to tersely announce that it was not a public restroom. I informed her that I intended to eat in the restaurant. FYI, the restaurants are connected. It is obvious that one is a walk up window, and the other one is sit down. I went to sit down in a booth and placed my order. The same woman/owner came to take my order but before she would take my order, she wanted to scold me on the difference between the two restaurants and that I should not have used the restroom that I used when I walked in the door. My family came here for lunch on Christmas Eve after seeing a movie, and the food was super good and verrrrrrry reasonably priced. Tacos are around $3.50 each, but they are way overloaded, so you're getting a lot more food than you get at any typical taco place. I ordered the chicken tinga and grilled tilapia tacos. The tilapia tasted fresh and I got a *generous* amount of chicken on the chicken tinga taco. Both of the tacos were drizzled with a rich white sauce. Two tacos were enough to fill me up because they were so generously loaded. My sister ordered ground beef and citrus marinated steak tacos and she really liked them. My dad ordered a chicken quesadilla meal, which entailed one absolutely massive quesadilla with cilantro rice and black beans. It was a lot of food for him! We were the only customers at the restaurant at the time, probably because it was 2pm and a holiday, but the service was *super super* prompt and very friendly. We had the cravings for some Mexican food and decided to see what was out there that we haven't tried yet. We stumbled upon Salsa Street. They have quite the extensive menu. I placed an order for pick-up for an early Saturday dinner. Pickup was easy depending on how you ordered your food, there was a specific table based on how you chose to order. All of the food was packed very well, too. It was ready within about 30 minutes of ordering and everything was correct in the order. I ordered the Shrimp Burrito which was delicious. It with a small side of beans and rice. We opted to split the Mexican Street Salad which was very fresh. The other entree was the sizzling chicken which was awesome. One of our favorites was the mango pineapple salsa we ordered on the side. That was excellent! Overall, do not miss going to Salsa Street! Looking for a cheap night out that's pretty good? This is your place. The quick version of this review would just to be say that this is a good Mexican food experience for the price. The longer version starts out by saying the staff could have been a little nicer (not that they were rude, they just seemed a little disinterested despite the restaurant not being all that busy) and the overall atmosphere kind of blends into the background. Neither of these are big deals, I'm mostly about the taste and price of the food, but when the staff's disinterest results in an error, it's a bit annoying. The person who took our order (my party was just two people, just two entrees) didn't write it down and had to come back to confirm something we had already discussed. And then the food my wife got was incorrect (she asked to hold the pico de gallo and that request was ignored). My wife liked the tacos she got. They weren't mind-blowing, but for the price they tasted good. I got a chimichanga and actually really enjoyed it, and again, good for the price. I wish I could go 3.5 stars, because it really was an overall good experience, but the thing that tipped the scales to 3 instead of 4 was the tortilla chips. When one craves tacos in the suburbs, it isn't difficult to find supply. However, it is hard to find a place that matches the quality and authenticity of Salsa Street. There are some amazing tacos to try here, including Relleno and Al Pastor, a personal favorite. The portions are large, and it's a filling amount of food, especially for the fair price. The free chips and salsa are also delicious and are nice for munching on while waiting for your entrees. One of my friends ordered the Chimichanga, which was massive. I'd recommend it for those with especially large appetites! I'm eager to head back someday as there are plenty of more tacos to try out! They have a fairly extensive menu, so one can definitely find something new to order whenever they come. This place was fantastic. We were craving tacos, but usually just make them at home because as vegetarian/pescetarian it can be difficult to find a place with veggie items that we couldn't just make at home, but after having this one pop up in our area we figured we'd give it a try. They start you off with a complimentary chips and salsa basket, the chips are fresh and well seasoned and the salsa verde is mild and creamy, just the way I like it. For our app we got the street salad which was LOADED with deliciously fresh veggies, corn, beans and topped with creamy avocado. For our Entrees we ordered the 3 taco platter with the wild mushroom taco, which is out of this world, the relleno taco, perfectly fried, creamy and mild on the heat. I am not usually a big fan of relleno (due to my aversion to spice), but this one could convert me. We also tried the Citrus shrimp taco, very well balanced flavor with a nice pop of sweet, and added a Crispy fish taco, which was impressively crispy and paired very well with the mango salsa, just be sure if you do order it that you eat it right away. Once it cools down a bit, as with any fried food, it looses its crunch. Probably will ask for some cilantro next time as it would have been nice to jazz up the tacos a bit. The chiptole black beans (mild) were a nice accompaniment and the rice was well cooked and well seasoned. We also ordered the vegetarian fajitas. Huge portion, great mixture of veggies that were perfectly sauteed with plenty of rice, and who doesn't love that sizzle as the plate comes out. The only downfall was not getting enough tortillas to go with it, but I am sure if we had asked they would have provided more. On top of the delicious food and affordable prices, the staff here are very friendly and attentive. They also have a full bar, great premium margaritas, and a pretty decent drink special menu that has good deals pretty much every night of the week. Needless to say, we will definitely be back to try out some of their other vegetarian fair and maybe give one of their mojitos a go. 9/10 would recommend. read more

Unique, elevated Mexican "street" food. Really different from anything else around. They were a bit backed up when we tried them, but they're brand new and it was Cinco de Mayo, so no points off. The menu is pretty extensive; I had steak and chorizo tacos, which were delicious and quite filling, and Missus S had a mushroom quesadilla, which left her too full for dessert and with enough left over for another meal and a half. The prices are a little higher than a lowbrow taqueria's, but their food's flavor, creativity, and portion size easily justify that. I don't know why it took me so long to try this joint... Best Mexican food I've had in a long time. The steak is so flavorful and juicy, bursting with flavor. I had a steak burrito (I know, very cliché order) but it was honestly one of the BEST burritos I've had. Even their sides of rice and beans are super tasty and unlike the usual rice & bean sides you'll find at many other places. We also tried the queso dip with their homemade limon tortilla chips, too tasty. All around great place.
