Originally had a 4 star review up but every time I've gone since I posted the review it's just been a MASSIVE disappointment. When they first opened I was honestly so excited for the new Harbor Point addition & I was really hoping they would do well but there needs to be more work done on service AND food.. Last time I was here my family got a chicken bowl but the chicken was so nasty they sent it back. The other items they ordered (I don't remember what they were- they were super unhappy with.) Ever since then, my boyfriend was scarred & refused to go back every time I asked him to come with me.... Except last night. We had high hopes they had cleaned up their act since we were last there & we noticed they some new vegan options! We had a 7:30 reservation outside but we didn't get seated until 8.... A mother & daughter had also had a reservation for 7:30 outside and they were seated a few minutes after us.. Seemed like they were really backed up. Luckily we don't get annoyed easily about things like this so we sat down and our friends joined us. It seemed like it took forever to even get our water glasses and our waitress said she would come back to take our drink orders but took 15+ minutes to come back... We finally ordered our drinks thinking they would be out within 5 minutes so we could order our food but she (& our drinks) were no where to be seen for a good 15+ minutes again.. Finally she comes over with our drinks & we order our food. Of course- you guessed it! The food took SOOOOO long to come out as well. I drank all my water & no one ever came up to us to refill it I had to physically search for someone.. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt so I waited a bit once I finished drinking it but it took way too long to find a person to ask. Finally the overpriced seasonal guacamole comes out! It could fit in the palm of my hand. It was good, but definitely not the best guacamole I've ever had in my life.. & DEFINITELY not worth the price. I ordered the plant based nachos, the beet taco, the impossible taco, and split the mushroom quesarrito with my boyfriend. -the plant based nachos were pretty good i was satisfied.. -all 3 tacos looked EXACTLY the same .... i actually asked my server if they made a mistake because they all (including the quesarrito) looked like the beet tacos... Also, we didn't get utensils we had to ask for them.. & when I asked for "set ups" they had no clue what that meant... Come on- you work in a RESTAURANT!! When we were finished a bus boy came over to clear our plates & I asked him if we could ask him for the check (because some places allow their bus boys to grab checks) & he sarcastically was like "yes but no, I'll tell your server though." My boyfriend & my part of the bill came out to $70....... $70 for nachos, 4 tacos, a baby guacamole & 1 tinyyyy "quesarrito" ? Wow... we definitely wont be back being that the service was below average & the food made ALL 4 of us sick today ...... that's all I'll say about being "sick" *I didn't get any pictures because my phone was broken & I had to get a new one smh. If you haven't been to this harbor front eatery, it's a must go for fantastic Mexican flare, great ambiance and friendly staff! We tried Mexicue many years ago, and found it so-so, but recently had the chance for a second go around, and well worth the re-do. We recently held my husband's birthday party here, and worked closely with James in the planning stages; we found him easy going and helpful in menu selections, seating and timing for our 14 guests. The day of, the staff was ready for us and the presentation and food itself was excellent, starting with the garden guacamole and pitchers of margaritas and sangrias, all well proportioned with fresh delicious ingredients. The mains were a variety of tacos with excellently prepared brisket, shrimp and chicken selections, each had fresh and unique accompaniments and artistically presented. They wowed us, and our guests raved about the selections, deliciousness and overall service and attention to our party. The topper was the staff graciously cut and served table side the outside bakery cake, including adding candles and singing traditional happy birthday, all without any additional charge to our quite reasonable tab. I live in the neighborhood and of all the spots in the Harbor Point area, Mexicue is my go-to local favorite. It's become like my Cheers. Bobby the manager and Paul the bartender are always so welcoming and friendly. The service is excellent and the food is consistently good. My current favorites to eat are the Smokey Chicken Tacos and the Brisket Bowl, but I haven't had anything I don't like. I eat out a lot and tend to find that most waterfront restaurants coast on their location, with subpar food and service - I'm happy to say this Mexicue is an exception to that rule on both points. read more

I saw the reviews and decided to check this place out. I was really excited to try their vegan/vegetarian options. This is a great place to try, especially now with all the social distancing rules. We arrived with no reservation so we were seated right away. This restaurant is trying to limit germs so you won't get a menu, instead you can scan the barcode and pull up the menu on your phone. I really enjoyed that because a lot of times the menus feel sticky which is gross, so awesome idea! We ordered the guacamole which was delicious. The chip to Guac ratio was a little off since we had such a big portion of chips (maybe give a little extra guac). The tacos were amazing, full of flavor and tasted really fresh. They are in the smaller side so if you're really hungry make sure to order more than one. We also ordered quesaritos which were a decent size. The food was delicious and drinks were good too! The outdoor seating is great and there is a nice view of the water (with ongoing construction as well). I was hoping to sit on their rooftop area but apparently they open their rooftop once the lower floor fills up. If you're looking for good Mexican food Mexicue is the place to go! I've written a couple reviews for Mexicue over the years but our recent visit on 7/24/2022 was worthy of an update. We truly enjoy the food at this beautiful restaurant right on the water with both indoor and outdoor seating available on two levels, however the music is typically playing so loudly, we don't take our dinner guests here unless we can be seated way away from any speakers. This visit we sat downstairs outside closest to the water. We were greeted quickly by Denver (waiter) who took our drink order and answered some questions. Truly, we hope he stays here as his professionalism, menu knowledge and friendliness are needed and greatly appreciated. For lunch we both had the smoky chicken taco's which were over the top with flavor. Denver brought the flight of sauces/salsas Mexicue has which was wonderful, as it's often impossible to get any sauces for your meal. We aren't sure what happened but for approximately a month of us going, we couldn't get any sauce and brought our own from home. So a big shout out and thank you for having them on this visit. Denver is a wonderful waiter and made this visit very nice for us. read more

We really wanted to like this place, but our brunch Sunday left a lot to be desired. We were looking for some good Mexican brunch after cinco de mayo, and mexicue seemed like a fun new place to try. Walking in the decor is great and the view can't be beat, but the singular filled table at 11:30 am on Sunday for brunch was not a great sign. We were seated- and given menus for lunch and dinner. While the food looked good, we knew there was a brunch menu after looking at their website. We asked the (very kind) but confused waitress for the brunch menu, and after a lot of consultation in the kitchen she returned telling us the few brunch items they had as they supposedly had no menus printed (we saw another table receive separate brunch menus later....). We were told they had huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, breakfast tacos, and a few other things I don't remember (as we never saw a menu). After seeing the huge plate of chilaquiles go out to the one other occupied table, the three of us all went for that. We are all vegetarian, and asked to confirm there was no meat in the dish. After again some deliberation in the kitchen, we were informed that they come with 1 egg and some kind of shredded meat (the staff didn't know, and again, we had no menu). This was fine as they could make the dish without meat. However, when I asked to replace the meat with a second egg, I was informed that would be a 2.75 up charge. As a vegetarian with a big appetite, one of my pet peeves is when I order something without the meat, the most expensive part of the meal, and I can't replace it with something else. I just can't get behind not getting the meat and also being charged 2.75 for a singular egg. However, my stomach did the talking and I added the second egg anyway, as the base price of 8.50 was actually great. We had chips and guacamole to start which were excellent, but the chilaquiles ended up being the exact same thing, minus the guac. Literally a plate of chips with a tiny bit of salsa and cheese, and an egg. I'd have hoped for some beans, maybe tomatoes, or anything really other than just chips. The home made bbq sauce and hot sauce definitely helped once we asked for it (they really should have it on the table to begin with), but that still didn't help the fact that it was really just chips we ate for breakfast. Apologies for the long winded review, but it feels like this place has a lot of potential and we were sad it wasn't better. The staff was incredibly friendly but also clueless, and the food was just not up to par. P.s. Loved this place! The restaurant sits right on the harbor so if you're sitting outdoors you have a beautiful view of the water and boats. The inside area was closed for dining due to covid but it was decorated beautifully with fake palm trees and pretty lights. Me and my group got the nachos to start and they give you choices for which toppings you'd like. We got the brisket topping and it was deeelicious!!!! It had a nice Smokey flavor and they used queso instead of your regular American cheese nacho topping which in my opinion I hate because it always hardens so quickly and your left with a cold hard chip. This was not the case with these nachos because the cheese was so creamy and it complimented the brisket so well. We ordered tacos and if you were wondering about how the menu works it's one taco each for whatever price you see there, so you can mix and match however many tacos you'd like. I got the crispy fish and Smokey chicken and both were amazing. Two tacos is just enough for one person because they are super filling. I also got the street corn which came with a small side salad and both were phenomenal. The street corn or "elote" was creamy, sweet and had a small kick at the end. We also each got margaritas and I got the Paloma which they offer as Tequila, Mezcal or bourbon. I got the mezcal and it had that signature Smokey flavor which went really well with the grapefruit. My only complaint would be the spice on the rim of the glasses, it almost tasted like fajita seasoning but I personally would have like a tajin or regular salt rim. Delicious drinks, great happy hour fare. Went with colleagues after a day of meetings, and was treated to a robust selection of tequila to choose from, and so many yummy bites to eat. I really was tempted by all of the ahi tuna options, but the group (nearly 20 of us) opted for nachos, chips and guacamole and corn bread. Heard a lot of good things about this place but it just wasn't up to par for me. My friend and I sat at the bar tonight, which exposed us to a lot of things. We saw the bartenders work and the wait staff bring out food. Sounds like a good thing - but it wasn't. Everyone seemed to be frazzled/confused and it lacked organization. The bartender took our orders for drinks first. Drinks were decent. Everything was measured out, so you're getting a very precisely mixed drink (i.e. Probably not as strong as you'd hope it to be). After getting our drinks, he took our order. We said a few things and he said told us to wait because he would forget it all. He turns around and pulls out an unclaimed receipt from the printer. Food comes out and they have absolutely no idea who to bring it to. For awhile, my plate had been hovering around me until another waiter pointed who it belonged to. We ordered the nachos to split and I ordered the tuna ceviche taco and the jamburrito burrito bullet. Nachos were the best of the 3. The rest were good, but it seemed overpriced for what I got. Oh yea, we also didn't get napkins and utensils until we asked 3/4 of the way into our meal. It was very difficult to flag someone down for it. Finally tried Mexicue in Stamford and it was amazing! Everything from service to ambiance to food was great. We had a large group of 6 or 7 and tried several different things like the nachos, guac and chips, and i had the chicken and tuna lettuce wrapped tacos and the jambalaya burrito. All were amazing! The grapefruit paloma was the icing on the cake. Just wish there was more. The ingredients were extremely fresh, you could definitely tell. The inside is amazing and has a great view and was warm with all of the glass in the winter. It was a bit on the pricey side considering all of the entrees are small/shared plates but was worth it. Definitely a bartaco feel with the menu but a bit more expensive. Loved it and will be back! read more

The food and service AT the restaurant is great. I have ordered many different things on the menu (typically the tacos, enchiladas and the vegetables with guac) and think they are all excellent. However, 2 stars off for the online ordering/takeout platform which is terrible. If you go on the website and call the number listed there, you cannot order over the phone from that number. It is just for reservations and other things. So you go on the website and create and account and the website automatically adds a tip. I wanted to decide what tip to provide when i picked up my order, but nope, the online platform defaulted to a tip. It does not accept zero. In addition, if you live in the Harbor Point complex, you normally get a small discount, but since you're ordering on the online platform, the order is already done so you don't get the discount. I was recently told at the restaurant to use a different phone number than the one online and then i can order over the phone, put in the tip i want and get the discount if eligible. Sounds great, but why do i have to make the mistake of following the phone number on the website to get this information. Why can't the website simply have the correct phone number? read more

Our first visit to Mexicue did not start out well. We were seated outside and the waitress didn't bring us our drinks, we waited a half hour and then I had to flag her down for food so we walked inside to the bar to get our own drinks . We went inside and sat in bar seating and Stephanie the manger was delightful, she was attentive and apologized for the incident with the other waitress. Our food was very good, lobster tacos and crispy fish tacos, guacamole on the house due to the inconvenience. A couple things I noticed though. One waitress was wearing slippers and wearing her mask below her nose. In the kitchen one of the food line guys was NOT wearing his mask, his white and black bandana was hanging around his neck. I saw him touch his face a couple of times too. The bathrooms were not cleaned as the soap dispenser was hanging open for everyone to touch. The paper towels were on the sink instead of in the dispenser. I was really hoping to like this place as I have visited many places in Stamford. read more

I came for a friend's 56th birthday party and we all had the greatest time. I tried the avocado chicken slider and a couple of tacos...the smokey chicken and rock shrimp. All of them were good albeit a bit small for the price...let's just call it the Harbor Point premium that everyone ends up paying to eat around here. The patio area was a bit cozy but certainly enjoyable during nice weather. I'm certainly open to trying it again. Nicole is one of the best managers there by far! read more

I used to love Mexicue but was just there tonight for the first time in years and it is awful! I can't believe how bad it is now which is so disappointing. The host was great and was able to get us seated pretty quickly but we got a margarita while we were waiting and it was sooo sour. Then we sat down and the waitress was MIA for legit 30 minutes. Finally she comes and we order guac and chips and tacos. The guac was good but the tacos were awful. The shrimp wasn't cooked and they forgot one of the tacos I ordered and then told me "do you still want it? It's going to take a lot longer" so I said no thanks. Just moved to the area and came to Mexicue for our first dinner out on the town. First, the staff is wonderful. Bartenders are fun and helpful. Really lovely cocktails. Lots of flavour, not too sweet. The food is average. We tried every taco, and they were lacking in flavor, but decent. The Nashville hot chicken taco, a customer favorite according to reviews, just didn't really taste like anything. The guac was very tasty. We'll probably be back, it's an easy dinner. read more

Was excited when i moved here to see Mexicue had a location here as I've been to the NYC ones quite a few times. Came here for lunch, made a reservation ahead of time which definitely recommend as a lot of people who tried to walk in we're waiting for tables. Started off with the poblano queso which unfortunately I wouldn't suggest. the chips had no salt and the queso was bland in flavor and really gritty in texture. Got a bunch of tacos to try, definitely recommend the nashville hot chicken one and would say skip the burnt ends taco. Margaritas are always great here and the outdoor seating right on the harbor was amazing. Overall, it was good but probably will check out a few more places before coming back read more

The food was actually very good. Drinks were not the strongest but ok. Guacamole and chips were yummy and the tacos were amazing. Service was so so. Not crazy about wait staff's attire. Some looked like they rolled out of bed. One had what appeared to be pajama shorts. Also tables are not prepped well before you sit. Our table was filthy and the hostess didn't do such a great job cleaning it. We also didn't have utensils. Had to ask for them. Wish I could give zero stars, well say 1 star based on location. Save yourself and do not come here. Decided to give it another shot last night and completely regret it. Spent $80 on takeout food that was pretty much inedible. We picked it up as soon as it was ready and sat nearby to eat by the water. My margarita had zero tequila in it. I don't even like strong drinks but this one was straight lime juice and sugar and parched my throat. $14 for that? Food was gross. Had the BEST meal last night at Mexicue. Great service from start to finish. When we arrived, the manager Bobby greeted us with enthusiasm and welcome and led us to our table. Not a long wait at all. They advised indoor seating as they knew the patio was getting chilly - great suggestion! It's the little things like that in service that make the overall experience much more pleasant. As the name of the restaurant suggests, the food at Mexicue is a marriage between Mexican and BBQ flavors. Before I get into the gluten free aspect of this review, which is what I focus on when dining out, I will say that for those of you who are NOT gluten free, there are a ton of delicious looking options! I definitely snuck a peak at the plates of those dining around me and the food looked delicious! That said, my food and restaurant exploration is about the gluten free available options since this is my area of food interest and needs. Tacos were my reason for visiting this particular venue. If you are gluten free, and don't eat seafood as I don't, the smoky chicken taco will be your only taco option. At least according to the sweet guy that was serving us, and I must admit that he didn't really seem to know much about the gluten free details of the menu. Initially he had told me that the fried avocado taco was gluten free, and kudos to him, he doubled checked anyway with the kitchen to confirm the safety of my order and returned to inform me that they were in fact NOT gluten free. That one taco option I had was AMAZING. If you are gluten free and like seafood, you will have a few more options to choose from than I did if you're in it solely for the taco glory. If you're there for more than tacos, you can expect more gluten free options for sure! Aside from tacos, Mexicue also has options that are safe for those who are gluten free and, of course, salads.
