Absolutely poor service. Ordered 4 tacos took more than 30 mins to get the food. Once the food arrived, I asked for more plates and the server gives us a dirty plate. When pointed out that plate is dirty the server got upset and said we are rude. And said quote, " you guys shouldn't be eating outside if cannot talk to people". This is completely uncalled for and unacceptable, you cannot be serving customers dirty plates. The owner should be ashamed of running restaurant with this level of arrogant staff. Before I get into the gluten free aspect of this review, which is what I focus on when dining out, I will say that for those of you who are NOT gluten free, there are a ton of delicious looking options! I definitely snuck a peak at the plates of those dining around me and the food looked delicious! That said, my food and restaurant exploration is about the gluten free available options since this is my area of food interest and needs. Tacos were my reason for visiting this particular venue. If you are gluten free, and don't eat seafood as I don't, the smoky chicken taco will be your only taco option. At least according to the sweet guy that was serving us, and I must admit that he didn't really seem to know much about the gluten free details of the menu. Initially he had told me that the fried avocado taco was gluten free, and kudos to him, he doubled checked anyway with the kitchen to confirm the safety of my order and returned to inform me that they were in fact NOT gluten free. That one taco option I had was AMAZING. If you are gluten free and like seafood, you will have a few more options to choose from than I did if you're in it solely for the taco glory. If you're there for more than tacos, you can expect more gluten free options for sure! Aside from tacos, Mexicue also has options that are safe for those who are gluten free and, of course, salads. I felt like Mexicue is a really chic spot and great location for the youth of Stamford. I went here on a Friday night at around 6pm, there were some families but the general population ranged from around 25-40. The ambience was very modern but I wouldn't recommend it for a new date or relationship because it's pretty loud. (They play great music though) the drink menu is awesome and so is the food menu. I've given this restaurant almost a weekly chance for about a year and can say it is still slacking. Each time I order, it's either wrong, there is a fly in my food, or the glasses on the tables aren't clean. EVERY WEEK for almost A YEAR, one of these happen. In this time the manager would come out and replace my order, my dirty glass, and dirty plate but every visit after it happens again. This place is not hygienic. This place needs better education of their menu or they input it into the register properly with a good communication with the cooks. The manager needs to have a full restaurant meeting. Re-train your staff on how they can remain busy but produce more than low quality in service and experience. I'm just gonna put it out there: Mexicue is all hype. It's in a great location with beautiful harbor views. On a warm summer night you can easily feel as if you've been whisked away to breezy, sexy island....but that's the beginning and the end of it. I promise you that you will wait forever for your drink. You will wait forever for a table...and I'm not sure why since this place is truly ALL HYPE. Once you finally do a get a table your waiter/waitress will surely forget all about you and you'll have to remind them several times that you're waiting on your food or drink. They'll then apologize and proceed to forget all about you again. Once the food and drinks arrive you may be so damn hungry that you forget all about how long it took to arrive. Do yourself a favor and order the cornbread- it's a dream come true and it will pacify even the crankiest diner who has been waiting for their food for over 20 minutes. The food is OK, but Bartaco is far better to be honest. The flavors aren't as complex and the food isn't as mouthwatering. The bartenders tend to have a heavy hand when they pour the drinks so if you're into stiff drinks Mexicue is definitely a good place to hang out for a bit. read more

It was good, however, there is no alcohol in this drink, not sure why you would charge $9? And in 4-5 sips it was gone (mostly ice). We came here on the Monday of Labor Day. They told us we had to wait for 1 hour and 15 min in order to get a table. We waited and it actually took longer than that for us to get a table. We were escorted out to our table and the whole back patio was a complete mess. The floor had food everywhere and tables were not cleaned that didn't have anyone sitting at them. We put our order in and the waiter came back and told us he was out of more than 75% of the menu. We had to change our order since all they had available was chicken tacos and brisket. They still were continuing to seat people even though they had ran out of almost 80% of the menu by the time we left. The food came out and tasted good but the size of the chicken on Nashville hot chicken taco was extremely small and wasn't worth the price. Overall I had liked this place in the past but the way they handled the restaurant that day makes me think twice before I eat there again. read more

Mexican and BBQ. It sounded weird to me when my friend invited me to go with her and celebrate her birthday there a few months ba. I wish I could say I was pleasantly surprised, but I wasn't. The menu is rather small, the majority of the menu items are spicy and their food is pricey. I wasn't impressed at all with this fusion of flavors. I think I'll keep my Mexican and my BBQ food separate. There are a lot better food joints around. Service wasn't anything special either. We went on a Sunday night and arrived an hour before closing. The staff seemed tired/done for the day. In the middle of our meal all the chairs around us were being put up on the tables. We had the best lunch and most fun at Mexicue! Our waitress, Teisha was sassy and fun! The manager Bobby was great! We started with the poblano queso- IT WAS INCREDIBLE! If you like spicy, get salsa on the side or more peppers. The guacamole was fantastic with a nice hint of lime and cilantro. I got the spicy margarita (I would have liked it spicier) and my friends got the apple cider margaritas. They loved them. After all the apps, we had tacos for our meals. The shrimp, burnt ends, pulled pork and Nashville spicy chicken. We were all very happy. We ended the meal with a shot of tequila! OLÉ!!!! If you go, you must start with queso- every taco on the menu is great so that's what I recommend when ordering your meal! This is my third time here over a few years. They are woefully understaffed and the service suffers. Our server was nice but struggling to keep up. They messed up two things on a very simple order. One salad was made with chicken which was not ordered and then it looked as if they removed the chicken and threw the salad upside down on the plate. The salad was lettuce on top with all of the other items underneath. Our garden guac was yummy as was my salad The other major issue was the volume of the music. There was no host or greeter when we went yesterday, we literally stood in their entrance until someone decided to stop talking and seat us. 2. You couldn't tell who was staff, they were underdressed in leggings, giddies and crocs. The food was a big disappointment, the best option to go with was a taco, an overpriced bare taco. The lady suggested I order 3 tacos to make it a meal, (24 dollars for 3 tacos) I asked making it a meal does it come with rice, salad, guac. Anything on the side, she said no. I live very close by and I am always disappointed. I came here on a Saturday night and got a seat at the bar. It was only the early side, but they must have intended to close soon because immediately after serving me my drink, the female bartender started to aggressively spray some caustic cleaning fluid all over the bar top. My guess is she was trying to get out of there, but next time just tell me you're closing before taking $14 for my drink and then aggressively ruining the experience. I am answering this from the perspective of the service. I just purchased property in the neighborhood and decided to go out an celebrate with my family visiting from NYC. This place looked like it had great harbor views, so I settled on having my celebratory first meal here. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned. To preface, this place is a tapas bar, which I normally love. We ordered a few plates and began our wait. An hour later after ordering, we had only received our appetizers and only two of our eleven items with nothing coming from the kitchen in sight. By the words of our waitress, the kitchen was backed up, but there was no food coming out to any of the tables. I don't know what the real "behind the scenes" situation was (the kitchen was clearly messing up), but the reason I am giving them 4 stars is that their front of house service was excellent, despite the unfortunate circumstances. What little food we received was excellent, and Christina, our waitress was a sweetheart, making the ordeal that much more pleasant. After waiting for so long, we eventually decided to pay for what little we had already received and head out. It was already late in the day and my family had to drive back in Sunday traffic. The manager came out asking about the situation, and after I informed him of the kitchen delay and that we did not have any more time to spend waiting, he was very kind and comped us our drinks and appetizers. I am a stickler for service, and this place has it on lockdown. I will return in a couple of weeks to actually try their fare and will update then (and add a star), but despite the kitchen flub, they did make things right. read more

We've been here for lunch/brunch 3 times and ordered delivery once. The food and drinks is quite good. I really love their taco salad. The service is HORRIBLE. We kept thinking that maybe it's just one bad server but we realized it's just consistently terrible. We waited 20 minutes for an order of guacamole. When I asked, I was made to feel like a criminal for bothering my server. The time we ordered delivery, we received the wrong order (correct meals but wrong protein/changes). We went to this Mexicue location on September 4th, 2020 at 6:35pm. We were greeted by the rudest host ever. Very nasty to us when we asked if it was possible to sit outside for a reservation we made 2 days prior. He was wearing a Britney Spears T-shirt weird piercing in between his eyes.
