Amazing food and great service good prices too! I love their nachos and tacos are so good

We tried this place a few months ago I'm just now getting around to posting. The wife and I saw the happy hour special online and decided to give it a shot. We both have never been to this restaurant. We got there at 4:45 today, before happy hour ended at 5. We were told to go to the bar for happy hour to order everything. We sat at a table with our 5 month old in what seems like the bar area. We proceeded to go to the bar to order. The bartender told us that he couldn't give us the special if we sat at a table. So we proceeded to say "we will sit at the bar then". Where there was about 4-5 seats taken up of the 15-20 seat bar. Then the bartender states "I'm sorry no kids at the bar", after seeing our son with us. So I said "fine we will just leave." The bartender proceeds to say, "no I don't want to see you leave, I'll serve you at the table" after we were already walking out. So they had money walk out the door because of service. If it wasn't that big of a deal for us to get the happy hour as we were walking out, why was it not offered from the start instead of us receiving every excuse not to give us the happy hour? You lost two new customers that night. I will State the food smelt delicious and have heard good things about the beer but that wasn't enough for us to stay. Not to mention, there was very few patrons in the restaurant at this time so you think you would rather have the customers in an empty restaurant than have them walk out. The pizza is absolutely delicious. I've tried several different ones. Only complaint is it's a small pizza for the price thus the four star rating. But It is probably the best pizza in York. Updated review. I went there today and I can tell you for a fact that the hard shell tacos were put in oil where something was burned. You could actually taste the burnt oil. It was offputting to say the least. And whoever made the pico , Was so heavy handed with the cilantro that you could taste nothing else.. Definitely not the best experience. Had a question about growlers that they answered online quickly and in detail. We showed up later that day and sat at the bar. We ordered a flight, a few pints, some food (fish tacos and a burrito) and finished up by having a couple of growlers filled to take home. Everything was on point and the server was top notch. One of my favorite things about this place is their beer selection. Most breweries in the area seem to have only two kinds of beers. IPAs and..... more IPAs. Do one thing and do it well. This is a nice little place that sure draws a crowd. And though there are some highlights on the menu, one can't help but feel the place is searching for identity. The Italian food is ok. Pizza was good and that seemed to be what most were ordering. The Mexican food was fast-foodesque despite wonderful appearance and allure. I found Mexitaly Brick Oven Brewhouse on the corner of a strip mall back in August. Now I've learned not to judge the strip mall location and Mexitaly is one shining example of why. From the outside I never would have guessed what I would find behind those front doors. The brick oven was no surprise, I mean, it's right there in the name. I knew they had beer, again, from the name. The dining room has several tables and booths as well as a bar to one side. Since I was flying solo I decided on a seat at the bar. I was greeted with warmth by the bartender Kelly who treated me (and actually mistook me) for a regular. I told her why I was there (for beer and food on my drive back home to Pittsburgh) and she was happy to entertain me. It was a Sunday afternoon and she wasn't too busy. I ordered up a flight of 5 to get a taste for what they were brewing while I decided on food. Torn between Mexican vs Italian, I landed on the Pancetta Pepper Pizza because I thought it better to try the brick oven side of things. My flight included Timepiece Saison (not my favorite despite my usual like of saisons), Belgian Rose Ale (brewed with rose hips), Deep C Wheat IPA (wheat and IPAs together just don't make sense to me), Roggenbock (my number one pick), and Blackberry Vanilla Stout (which made a good dessert ending to my tasting). Kelly eagerly told me about some of their other beers and I would definitely be a regular like she had hoped if I lived in York. My pizza was good but as a group of hungover college kids arrived, I wondered if I made the right choice since they all ordered burritos. Ah, there's always next time. And always more beer to try. Despite living in Pittsburgh and only now being able to reflect on my stop at Mexitaly, I think about it often. We've been to Mexitaly several times. I've loved everything I've had! Until today, I've stuck to the Mex side of Mexitaly and only gotten burritos (since it's one of my favorite foods). On this trip, my wife and I decided to split a burrito and boli. I'm glad we did! Both were amazingly delicious and huge. I'm embarrassed to say I ate all of both halves. My future decisions at Mexitaly just got more difficult as my go to burritos now have competition. read more

I frequent this restaurant and have yet to be disappointed. I usually order three hard shell chicken tacos with rice and beans. The portion is very filling; however, sometimes I do leave feeling a bit bloated. For a lighter and cheaper option, I would go to Chipotle and order the same thing. The only Italian option I've tried is the pizza; I prefer MOD and think it is a much better value. The atmosphere is friendly and the restaurant is always packed! read more

Hands down - Favorite place in York! We frequent this place, at least once a week! Wednesdays are kid free and this is our go to spot for date night! It's perfect, I love the Mexican and my boyfriend loves the Italian - I love the Biere de Mars and he loves the Blood Orange Hefe! Our food is always delicious, no matter what we get. Their homemade hot sauces are to die for. I can't ever decide on which hot sauce to get so I always order the flight. We always sit at the bar and their bartenders are great! They are friendly, attentive, and always have a great attitude. It's the perfect environment and mix of personalities to really enjoy yourself. We even have a good time with the other people at the bar, it's always a good conversation with anyone there. read more

Mexican and Italian food..in the same restaurant...sometimes on the same plate? Yeah, I walked in feeling HIGHLY skeptical, but friends recommended this location, so I gave it a shot. For the most part, I'm glad I did! Our table ordered a variety of options. We had loaded nachos for an appetizer, and I found these to be really..unimpressive. I have made better nachos for game night at home. My husband had spaghetti and meatballs, and he raved about the texture of the meatballs. I gave it a taste myself, and I completely agreed. Not only were the meatballs moist and flavorful, but they weren't mealy or overworked. I had the pesto pizza, and it was one of the best flavor combinations on top of a pizza that I've ever had. I took half of the pie home, but my dog stole it off the counter before I could get it to the microwave! I grieved the loss of such a tasty leftover. My dog gave it two paws up. I think my favorite part was dessert. There were four of us, so I mistakenly ordered 2 of the sopapilla plates. Two orders could have fed EIGHT people, not just four. Oh man. These were so simple, and yet so addictive. Crispy chips, covered with sweet, sticky honey and powdered sugar. Crispy, sweet and a bit salty. It is a good thing I was friends with the couple we had dinner with...because, licking your fingers after dessert in polite company isn't considered appropriate. I couldn't resist! Surprisingly, the sopapillas were still good the next day. Normally chips like this would not keep well, but I had friends over the next day, and the extra chips we brought home were eaten up quickly. Oh, my goodness. Mexitaly is my PLACE. I can't wait for them to open again after this pandemic ends. (Kudos to Greg for caring about his community during these difficult times. We won't forget that!) Anyway, Mexitaly has excellent guacamole. Also, I absolutely love their roasted root burritos. Oh-- and their seafood taco salad is divine... like eyes rolling back in your head DIVINE. Plus, they have some excellent beers brewed right on site. I'm a fan of all of their dark beers. Yum. And... their bartenders are some of the friendliest folks you'll ever meet. It's fresh, local and solid food. So update: I've been back a few times lately and it has been good, again. Their Pittsburgh Steak Salad (I order mine with fries on the side) is so good. My husband enjoyed his tacos the last two times. I even brought a group of out-of-town friends and they were wowed by the quality of their personal pizzas and fish tacos. *Note: order the pizzas or the fish tacos next time. I think their kitchen has gotten their groove back. Thank goodness. I was going through withdraw. Previous visits I was disappointed. I got a beef burrito, it wasn't very good. Tip #1: Order steak not ground beef. The ground beef isn't high-quality. The steak burrito I got last time was bland because everything tasted the same. I asked for pico de galo because it was boring even though I asked for extra salsa. They told me I'd have to get back in line and pay for pico. Ummmmm...by the time I would get through the line my food would be cold. So I grabbed hot sauce. Steak tacos and fish tacos are great. Pizza is well-loved but pricier than the average. The inside has an industrial, diner/bar vibe. It's usually packed. A little loud and crowded for an intimate date. Go to be social and drink the microbrews. read more

A Food Find in York While on our way to York, PA on a Sunday for some discount shopping, we hear an ad on the radio for Mexitaly restaurant in York. We are looking for a lunch spot and hungry, so we find this place. Hidden in a strip center, tucked in behind a bank building, we go in and see generous menu selections of a crazy mix of Italian and Mexican food. We are relieved. We were glad just to get a reprieve from all of the chain restaurant food in York. We split the Big Burrito and the Spanakopita Pizza. Both selections were excellent. We want to return to try the Italian menu items served in the evening. If Mexitaly was closer to us we would go much more regularly. Mexitaly: A great choice in York for hungry people. Best place to eat in York County for Pizza. The Mexitaly pizza is one of my favorites. It is the best marriage that you never thought of .....pizza and nachos. I also enjoy the taco salad that is made in a taco bowl. Lettuce is always crisp and fresh and the flavor is intense and you walk a way full. Try the mexitaly pizza.....don't skip dessert It is hard to pick what is the best dessert that they serve cinnamon sticks or sopallias. Both are wonderful. If you're a hipster, you'd like this place apparently because it's filled with them. When you walk in they ask if you want to order at the cashier or the bar. We chose the cashier. She gave us a menu then told me I should go into the back because they were selling Lularoe back there. No thanks. I ordered the following: Guacamole Chicken quesadilla My guacamole came out without chips and I asked the guy at the counter for chips. He starts ringing it up in the register! I said I already paid for the guacamole but he said I didn't ask for chips and some people don't want chips. How else do I eat the guac?! I said well I've never heard of that before and he said it's $1.60. I go to hand him my card and he huffs at me and said he can't take a card for only $1.60 and don't I have cash?? No I do not carry cash. He huffs at me and says, fine and takes my card and rings me up for chips. In the end, the guacamole was plain and the chicken quesadilla was nothing remarkable. Love that the menu with Mexican and Italian options! We had an appetizer of crispy on the outside and chewy interior breadsticks. They were lightly seasoned with garlic and Parmesan and came with tomato sauce for dipping. Plenty for a family to share. I had 3 delicious, generously filled, crunchy ground beef tacos. Got a side of tender, savory beans that were perfectly paired with flavorful rice. Tried the fish tacos- so unique and tasty with the ginger slaw on top! My friend and I were visiting from out of town and found this place while searching local dinner places. The restaurant is a unique combination of Mexican and Italian good. They have a diverse menu with lots of options. My friend chose this place Bc they clearly marked their gluten free options on the menu and it was very easy to spot. We chose an appetizer of chips and queso. That was definitely the worst part of the meal. The queso was very gritty and was hard to eat. The main entrees were definitely better. My friend got the fish tacos, they served 3 tacos with slaw rice and beans. Overall she enjoyed it. I got the seafood burrito. It had a good flavor, it included shrimp and scallops, and all the traditional toppings. The burrito was huge and plenty of food. But it was overall average quality. I would definitely give this place a 2nd try if we are ever back in the area. It is a good place for a quick meal. read more

We all know the food at Mexitaly is delicious! I am concerned about the food safety practices. I called in an order that wasn't ready when I arrived so I watched the kitchen prep as I was waiting. Some food handlers wore gloves, while some did not and we're directly handling food. The owner was holding a tablet of some sort and then handling a block of cheese bare handed without any hand washing. Grated the cheese onto a customer order and handed it to servers. Then he started cutting pieces of the cheese and tasting it along with another food prep employee. If the owner isn't practicing food safety, the employees will follow his lead. Also plenty of food prep employees with long hair hanging over their shoulders without hair nets. I hope that food safety is taught to food prep employees including hand washing a glove use. read more

Unfortunately this is not the Mexitaly I remember from their old location. My husband and I visited them this even however, this review is is only about the Mexican offerings. The Pros: Service was fast and friendly. The Cons: I ordered the taco trio (chorizo) rice and beans and my husband had the enchiladas. By far, the worst chorizo I've ever had. It was grainy and dry and tasted exactly like Taco Bell beef. Also, instead of serving the tacos with two corn tortillas a piece (which is pretty typical because they are so thin) they coated the single tortilla with waxy/greasy grocery store taco blend cheese. Rice was gummy and WAY overcooked but beans were pretty good. For $11 it was a lot of food but the quality was completely subpar. My husband said his ONE enchilada (even though the menu said enchiladaS) was good but was not authentic and for $15 basically a rip off. The guac was the only good part of the entire meal (seriously delicious guacamole... some of the best I've ever had). Overall, we were disappointed and will probably not be back especially with all the killer TexMex options literally down the street. read more

I consider myself a regular at this establishment. After having seen mice and fruit flies inside the restaurant on multiple occasions, I can no longer say I will stay a regular here. It is a damn shame that a restaurant of this quality cannot keep their area clean enough to prevent rodents and bugs.
