They took my dog to like I am blowing away by the one on one attention I received the understanding of my ignorance to what was going on with my dog. They did everything that they needed to and nothing they didn't have to. I am just blown away. I don't know what else to say. Do I recommend this service. 110% and more. The level of veterinarian care my dog received, surgery for the removal of an eye tumor plus a full dental cleaning as long as she had to be anesthestitzed, was first rate. But the level of care I GOT from the actual courier service was unparalleled! Numerous phone calls & texts to keep me fully in the loop, they even sent pictures of her in the doctor's office. The communication throughout the day by the Mexi-vet TEAM was excellent & definitely calmed my anxieties surrounding my precious, little dog. Thank you Anna, Valerie, Dr Alexander & all at MexiVet. My kitty was sick for a week and got worse on Christmas. I filled out the online form on 12/25 & Anna quickly set up the pick up for 12/26. After treatment & X-rays he was safely home. I paid a fraction of what it would have cost at the Vet in SD. This is our second time with MexiVet. In April our other kitty got out & attacked by a dog. His wound got inflected & had two broken teeth. I got the wound treated at our local vet due to the emergency but I was quoted $2k for the teeth. I contacted Anna and she arranged for Blue to ride shotgun on the next trip to Mexico the following morning. The driver sent me texts of Blue since he was traumatized by dogs so he kept them apart from them by having him sit with him and talked to him to and from. So kinda. Everyone involved was prompt and professional! For sedation, teeth removal, meds etc I paid $12.50 plus the transportation. $2000 vs $12! Rarely do I leave reviews, however I feel like this should be known. I used MexiVet at the beginning of the year because I heard a lot of good reviews about their service. I'm located in San Diego so I used their transportation system for my cat. I had brought my cat in for a checkup because he had been urinating outside of his litter box. After running some tests they told me that he has sediment in his bladder and prescribed me some meds. After a few weeks I reached back out because the meds had no effect, so they recommended he have a surgery done to remove the sediment. Since the issue had been happening for months, I believed them and I sent my cat back up to Mexico to have the surgery. After the weekend passed I picked my cat up from the transport location and my cat looked horrible. He was extremely lethargic and absolutely reeked of urine. The vet mentioned he had pulled his catheter out after the surgery so you'd think they would clean him up or keep a better eye on him so that wouldn't have happened in the first place. After 2 days my cat refused to eat, drink, and barely move... he looked like he was about to die. The vet never reached out post surgery to check in on him and I was extremely worried so I ran him to the ER in San Diego to get him looked at. While at the ER they gave him fluids and meds to help perk him up for the next few weeks. I told the vet in SD what had happened and I showed them all the meds prescribed and paperwork from mexivet, and the vet had absolutely no clue why my cat was taking any of those meds because they aren't even for the right condition. To add, they were also really confused why he had this surgery in the first place for this issue. After about a month of dealing with all this and seeing multiple vets, the vet bill for all of this came out to around $4k and my cat kept urinating out of the litter box so he NEVER even needed this surgery from mexivet!!! Once I moved, we figured out it was behavioral and he had yet to urinate outside the litter box. read more

We brought our 9 year old cat to a Veterinary Dental Specialist in San Diego. Her symptoms were terrible breathe, drooling and tongue sticking out. After the exam they presented me with a quote. The diagnosis was Periodontal disease, most likely some teeth extractions and the dentist seemed so grim about the severity of the situation. The base line quote was $4,355 with a high end of $6,568. My cat is very angry at the vet so they prescribed gabapentin to use prior to the procedure. After thinking about it further, our family decided we can not pay that much money. We love our cat very much but this expense was so high. We contemplated euthanasia but it was breaking our heart to do such a thing. We did get a quote from our regular Vet who historically does not impose excessive charges but that was for about $3k. We remembered seeing this company, I thought it was a van with the logo on it crossing the boarder to TJ. I decided to give them a call after reading all reviews on cats, read all the bad reviews -- nothing that seemed valuable. I did not read anything that said an animal died in there care or disappeared or charges were excessive holding a pet hostage (yes, your brain does terrible things when you are sad and stressed). To keep this as short as possible, they are the nicest sweetest kind people ever. You talk to the vet in a conference call, they explain everything, communication on dropoff/pickup via text, online portal etc. The quote was for $275-350 with exam, anesthesia, basic extractions, full panel blood work with report, extensive extractions were $10-50. The grand total for everything was $473.71 which included pain meds/antibiotics ($15.37) & 7 teeth extracted (only $56.67 for all 7). Oh she had an ear infection we did not know about so that cleaned that up and did not charge us for it. To give you a perspective, the anesthesia in the US alone was $1400 plus a bunch of charges on top of that associated with anesthesia. Blood panel was $218, gabapentin pain killer $80.39, tooth extraction $118/tooth with some teeth as much as $320. I know it can be scary to send your beloved in the hands of strangers uncertain of the unknow of another country. The bottom line is, research it. There are so many random articles about why US is so expensive and Mexico is a great option for animals. However, many articles say for human health services too especially dental work since that is not covered by insurance very well. Some argue the equipment or credentials are not the same but........this is an animal however a very important family member -- it is an animal and we have children too so we have many heartbeats to look after. How freaking difficult is it to do a dental procedure anyway. Its not like open heart surgery. To give you an even better perspective.....when I gave birth to my son 11 years ago I had a C-section with a 4 night hospital stay at Sharp Mary Birch. I recall my bill and it was $17k, I am pretty sure that was after my $5k deductible. Yes, this was 11 years ago BUT I GAVE BIRTH TO A CHILD that had a NICU team (yes, a freaking team) in the room along with like 5 other people, many of which were doctors JUST IN CASE something should happen. Noodle on that as a perspective. Is the service subpar because its Mexico or is it just health care in the US (liability, insurance, cost of schooling -- who knows) just obnoxious. I say, go with Mex. Or, go broke and in debt. All that money you save if you feel so compelled, donate it to a rescue! Oh, Miss Owl is resting and already eating the day after. Meowing, yelling at me and being her sassy usual self. No drooling, no tongue sticking out. She let me look in her mouth, she looks great! She gave herself a bath overnight which she was unable to do pre-surgery! Oh and picking fights with our dog, her usual fan favorite activity to terrorize an 80lb dog........she may get caviar for dinner with the money we saved. read more

With my cat in need of a dental cleaning and treatment of some mysterious skin lesions on his stomach, I decided to give these folks a try based on the reviews on here. I met the driver early in the morning at their drop off spot in Mission Valley and handed off my boy for his international trip. The driver kept me updated the whole way with this really cute video prior to crossing the border. My cat, Winston, went to MediVet and they kept me posted the whole time. I spoke with veterinarian right before they took my boy into surgery and they called me right after he woke up. On the journey home, they kept me informed about when they crossed the border (which can take some time in the afternoon) and their eta to the drop off/pick up place in Mission Valley, which is the shopping center at Mission Gorge Road/Camino Del Rio South. My boy was a bit doped up and eager to get back home but in good spirits. The driver gave me his medications, I happily tipped him and that was that. All told, it was about $1k, which is about a third of what I would have paid at my regular vet. I have used MexiVet Service enough times now to say that it is a MUST DO. Every time I make an appointment they reply very quickly. There has been occasions where I have had to make a last minute appointment and they have been very accommodating for that, which I appreciate. They drive your dog from a set location or your house to TJ and back. I really like that they always ask for consent before making any decisions or procedures, as well as they always ask you to choose your preferred vet instead of them choosing for you. I cannot look passed the negligence of the vets that MexiVet express works with, We have had to take our dog to fix the issue after their cleanings twice and won't be fooled again. While they might be good for some people with simple problems or dental cleanings, the first time they took her they didn't read our request and kept her overnight because they didn't read the extent of our vet quote then we got her back and got multiple quotes here in sd that she still needed more surgery, they were supposed to close a nasal fistula and did not close it therefore food and whatever else was getting stuck in her gums so we got that surgery taken care of at Anicira in Encinitas correcting the nasal fistula Now back in March they did a dental cleaning and were supposed to remove any rotting teeth but said they didn't need to extract any teeth and her mouth looked awesome, a few days to a week later her breath started smelling again horribly and face started swelling like an infection, turns out she had rotting teeth down to the bones with roots exposed they didn't remove the rotting teeth they just cleaned over them and now she just got out of another surgery and found out her jaw bone is infected it could be osteomyelitis, her face is swollen and the infection has spread, they had to take a biopsy to see what's going on but we thought we would save money and get it done but moral of the story you get what you pay for. I will not be going their again my baby is suffering and they never like told us anything was wrong in her mouth, and the fact that we had to redo surgery not once but TWICE. The surgery place that took her today Anicira which I highly recommend said they've never seen anything like it so obviously the vet saw it in Mexico two months ago or whatever condition her mouth was in they should've pulled her rotting teeth not just cleaned over them now it's a whole other issue. You want to find ONE review that makes you change your mind about it - sorry to disappoint you, but this one ain't it. I'll start by saying I have an American vet. They're nice people, sure. But they're expensive. I took my cat for his yearly checkup - a healthy, lovely. 5 year old Siamese - and was slapped with a treatment plan: "He looks fine and he's healthy. Except, he needs a dental cleaning, some blood work, and that'll be $1400.00. When do you want to schedule?' I was speechless. I told them - print me out a breakdown, and I'll call you back. I didn't call them back, instead, I went desperately seeking another option. ANY option. And I came across this one. The idea of sending my pet across the border felt weird. Not wrong, not guilty trip worthy, but just different. But after combing through reviews just like you are - I thought, okay. This may not be such a bad idea. I live close enough to Mexico, and I dont even have to do this MYSELF. I contacted MexiVet to get the scoop. After using their online forms, I was contacted by a member of their team. I was quoted a fraction of the price to take my cat down. A small deposit, choosing a date, and the details about the drop off pickup system. I hesitantly booked a date a few months in advance so I'd have time to back out if I thought too much on the process. It's a good thing I didn't. Tina reached out to me the night before with details on where to meet the driver the next morning. I promptly stuffed the cat into his carrying bag, and met Anna at the pickup spot around 8 AM. She answered all my questions and told me the driver would be in contact with me throughout the day. Winter was placed in the van and taken down to Tijuana. Chris, the driver who was gonna take the pets back after the vet, was in contact all day long. Letting me know when to expect to meet him, how the vet appointment went - and after the cleaning, had me on the phone before he left Mexico to ask the vet any questions personally. I was reassured by Anna earlier on that the vets are very conservative and won't do any treatment they wouldn't deem necessary, including extractions for teeth. Sure enough, my cat had a clean bill of health. Anna contacted me and sent a link for online payment to make it easy. Chris called me, gave me a heads up (beware: sometimes pickup can be later at night due to border traffic and waiting for all the animals in the drop off to get finished, in this case, around 8:45 pm was my pickup), and my cat was given back to me, bright eyes, and sparkly teeth. I received the vet paperwork as well as post op instructions and medicine to take care of my cat after today's visit. It's a shame that American vets make you question whether you can make rent payments or keep up with your pet's health. The people at Mexivet Express do this for the love of the animals. It's very hard work back and forth driving across the border, scheduling drop offs and pickups at houses, and coordinating with owners about their pets' health and medical needs. But the background was quite loud, the answers to my questions were not as clear as I'd have liked, and I just found the overall experience a bit challenging. That being said, my Appa was given surgery with no advanced notice from my end, which would have been impossible up here in the states. The doctors said "can we put him under now?" BOOM. Eye lid surgery handled and my boy was home and happy that day. For someone with a busy schedule and a traditional 9-5, this was a godsend. So again - pricing, excellent. Convenience, excellent. Wow wow wow, one of the best decision I ever made was to use MexiVet. We went to west coast hospital in San Diego and they quoted us 4.5k-5k for a bladder stone surgery. We didn't have pet insurance so that was way over our budget. When I called Anna (MexiVet) she was very responsive, asked me what was going on with my dog and what needed to be done. Once I sent all the info I needed she gave me a quote right away, it was $900-1k for the procedure and they would pick my dog up. Used MexiVet for the second time yesterday and I am so grateful for this business. This visit was for an echogram for our chihuahua who has a heart valve issue. We met the drivers at a meeting place near our home. They had her crate ready for her and she was with other dogs for the ride. They text you as soon as they arrive at the vet to let you know they are there. I received a few phone calls throughout the tests and a call when she was heading back to our meeting place. The cost is so much less than any estimates I received at local vets. She came back with test results, medications and instructions. I even received a text this morning from MexiVet checking in to see if I had any questions. Excellent communication throughout the process which is so important since it can be stressful sending our fur babies to a vet without us.
