We haven't eaten here in years, and I honestly don't know why. Our food was very good, and our server was friendly and attentive. It's a small sit down/takeaway restaurant in a strip mall, nothing fancy, but the food was delicious, inexpensive, and plentiful. They have lots of choices. My friend and I love to try many Thai places for lunch. When we are in South County, we've made a habit of hitting Thai Orchid. It's been consistently good. Our favorite is drunken noodles with pork. The sauce has a hint of sweetness and the spice level is always right. The inside ambiance is kind of plain and a bit dated. Passing by and decided to try out this small mom & pop shop around 8 pm on Friday for dine in dinner. The restaurant closes at 9 pm. We were the only ones in the restaurant, and no take out orders were picked up while we dined, so our food was cooked & brought out in good time. Appetizer was Tod Mun -- was ok, better than what I got at Thai Asian cuisine. I forgot to take pictures of that and my entree, Stir fried Cashew (added chicken), which was such a small serving and not worth the price. Chicken was dry and the brown sauce was on the sweet end. I asked for spice level 1 and got no spice (better than being too spicy and not edible). However they do not offer a spice tray or even hot sauce for the table. Husband ordered Tom Yum with seafood (they label as Seafood Hot Pot but it is not brought out to cook in a hot pot), spice level 3. That was just a tad bit spicy -- even I could have eaten that with no issue. The Nepalese student who took our order said she usually gets level 5. It's also a very small serving for the price. Broth could have used more lemongrass and/or kaffir lime leaves. Glad we tried out this place I've heard about, but we will not likely return. read more

Please don't be fooled by the small size of this restaurant, the flavors are HUGE! The restaurant is clean, the service is excellent and our food came out so fast! We ordered the Curry Puffs as our appetizer, they were delicious, very light and airy with a savory, slightly spicy filling. Our entrees were Pineapple fried rice and Thai Rama, both with chicken. I started my meal with the spring rolls and miso soup. The spring rolls were crunchy and crispy and HOT! They came out so fresh and the miso soup simply warmed my heart! I had such a great experience with my apps I was super excited to try my red curry with tofu. I got a medium spice which was perfect, the curry came out warm spicy and delicious. One thing I can appreciate is a good Pad Thai, but one thing I don't like is one that has too much fish sauce. (Just my personal preference). I usually ask them to omit it or use a substitute. There wasn't an issue here with the fish sauce, and I was able to enjoy the dish and enjoy the flavors of the chicken and peanuts! It was missing my green curry, so I got refunded via a DoorDash credit and reordered my green curry. The second time it came (30 minutes later), and still no green curry. They gave me another yellow curry. Here's the thing - the yellow curry is so good, I'm almost not mad they screwed up twice. But man, I was craving that green curry. Why do restaurants not pay attention to their orders and what they put in the to go bags? Blows my mind. I'm a little sensitive to spice but I've had level 1 before from other restaurants, 1 was the lowest option and I had to select something but I guess I should've added in the notes that I didn't want any spice level because it seemed more like a 2 or 3. Great Thai food! Service was pretty nice and attentive to our needs. They let you choose how spicy you want some of the dishes to be on a scale of 1-5. I went with a 2 because I've had previous Thai food at other restaurants that has before incapacitated me with its spiciness. However the 2 was barely spicy at all. I'd recommend going with a higher number if you want any kick to your food at all. Pad See Eue with beef - tasty noodle dish! The sweet sauce wasn't too overpowering and the beef was cooked and seasoned well. I guess there wasn't anything remarkably special about it, but it was made well so nothing to complain about. Panang curry - the curry itself was flavorful and well made. It didn't have as much of a nutty flavor as I'm generally used to though. Although the curry was fine, somehow the rice that came with it was super dry and not steamed well. A bit odd... perhaps it was just an off day? Overall pretty great Thai food. This food is amazing! So glad to have delicious Thai near me, and they are on Door Dash. The server and owner were so friendly and explained all the dishes. You can choose spiciness from 1 to 5, and they have additional spices, like picked jalapenos and peppers. I ordered Tom Yum in house, and it comes with two mini veggie egg rolls and sweet n sour soup with veggies, so much than the plain soup you get at Chinese restaurants. The Tom Yum soup was decadent, spicy, and had more seafood than any other Tom Yum I've had before. Shrimp, squid, and either mussels or fish cake, hot pepper oil, a satisfying broth and noodles to spare. I will be back! read more

Another great Thai place! Thai food has been more of a recent interest for me, but I've already found some great places to enjoy it. Thai Orchid has just been added to the list! Having recently moved to South City, I was looking for something fairly close to enjoy Pho or Pad Thai. Yelp pulled up TO, and I was on my way. Like many Thai places, it has a pretty simple set-up. It reminds me of how most Chinese restaurant are laid out. However, who needs ambiance when it's more about the food? Most of the menu items are posted around the counter, with pictures and prices. TO was pretty quiet on a Saturday afternoon, with only one other table waiting to eat. The worker was very concerned about our wait, having been short one worker that afternoon. He said that his mother was in the back doing the cooking. I went simple with an order of Pad Thai with chicken. I've tried this dish at many places now. I was surprised by the lack of presentation. Most places usually doll up the dish, and the plate didn't have the normal style that I had seen Pad Thai served like. Not necessarily a bad thing but strange. Overall, it might not have been my favorite plate of Pad Thai, but it was still very good. With just the right amount of heat! Like I said, Thai Orchid might not be my favorite Thai spot, but it's hard to compete with Pearl Cafe in Florissant. Nonetheless, I truly enjoyed it and will definitely make it back soon. read more

4.5 stars out of 5 I came here for lunch with 8 of my coworkers. We all ordered a good variety of food and it seemed like everyone enjoyed their selections. I had the green curry with pork (I always get green curry my first time at any Thai place). It was very delicious and is probably a close second to my favorite green curry (which is in Tallahassee, Florida, unfortunately). They have spice levels from 1-5, with 5 being the most spicy. I got a 2 and was happy with the heat because it added enough dimension to the dish without being too spicy for me to handle. I also had their Thai tea. It had more half and half than I was expecting, but was still creamy and sweet and tasty. For their lunch special, each entree comes with a soup and an egg roll (for something like $7). The soup today was a hot and sour soup which had a lot of flavor and tasted better than I was expecting. The egg roll was pretty standard, but it was nice to have that to start off with since I was super hungry. The other dishes my coworkers got were pad see eue, pad thai, drunken noodles, pineapple fried rice, and maybe some other ones I don't remember. I didn't taste any of their dishes, but they each looked yummy. There was so much food! I everyone's plates were piled high and I ate until I was full, yet still had half of the green curry and some rice to take home. Our server seemed very nice. The ambiance is minimal (don't go here expecting a fancy decor or food presentation), but it's quite clean, including the bathroom. The food came out fairly quickly for such a large group. I had a good experience. Who knew that south county could be hiding a gem like this? The only part I'm mad about is that I discovered this place literally the last week of my job, even though I work around the corner from it. Have you ever been invited over to someone's house for a spaghetti dinner, get pumped up about eating that tasty goodness just to be disappointed by an overly sweet, sugary spaghetti sauce that takes away from the rest of the meal? I have been on a huge Asian food kick of late and although I did not feel like cooking, I did have a hankering for some Drunken Noodles. I did a carryout order of those with tofu and an order of green, Thai curry with chicken as the proteins. Since I was sharing with another, I was excited to try both of these meals. Remember the first paragraph about sweet spaghetti sauce? That is all I could think of when I was eating the Drunken Noodles, just too darned sweet. I did like the portion size, the amount of veggies, but the amount of in the recipe is just too much. The green curry? I am glad they told me it was green because with the onions, bamboo shoots, chicken, rice and sauce all being the same color, I could not tell. The only color in there was green and orange bell peppers. There was a tiny amount of heat but that was offset by, can you guess? Yep, sugar. This was my first visit and it will be my only visit. Very good Thai! I had been wanting to try it for awhile and found myself in the area recently so stopped to get takeout (it was take out only due to COVID19). I ordered and it was ready within 20 minutes. They bring it outside for you so you don't have to go in, were masked and gloved. The masaman curry was really good, one of the best I've had in STL. My husband and I have been here twice and it is our new favorite Thai place! The servers both times were very friendly and helpful, and the food is absolutely delicious. We have been very impressed with our experiences. The first time we got pad Thai and drunken noodles and the mango sticky rice for dessert and we basically licked our plates clean. The second time we got beef noodle soup (we thought this was only okay - probably wouldn't order again) and yellow curry, which was amazing. The house salad is okay (it's kind of like coleslaw but with a vinegary sauce, but it's not bitter) and the Tom Yum soup is absolutely delicious and very savory! I got the Thai iced tea and I really enjoyed that as well. The location is very clean and the food comes out super quick and it piping hot! We have been very impressed with everything and it is our new go-to Thai restaurant in town, and we have been to quite a few. I was happy to see a Thai Restaurant in South County. i was disappointed with the results of my order. i called to get a mall To Go order for a quick lunch to drop off for a friend. The friend is not an adventurous eater so typical fare was requested. i asked for two orders of chicken fried rice. Te server informed me there was no Chicken Fried Rice on the menu. Shocked, we finally got around to the fact there was actually Fried Rice w/ chicken. But not chicken fried rice(?)! Also purchased an order of crab rangoon. Once I got to the restaurant, 3pm on a Wednesday, I still had to wait for fifteen minutes in an empty dining room for my order. Two plastic bags with Styrofoam containers were loaded up and handed over for roughly $20. The huge amount of fried rice with chick was not as expected. The rice was clumpy and moist with few bite of chicken. The food was hot and i was thankful for this. The second container of crab rangoon were not as hoped either. The fried dumplings were smaller than expected and easily could have been a frozen product. As a bonus, there were two orders of spring rolls in the bag with small Stomfoam containers of a waters dipping sauce. Perhaps I should have went with the curry. They appeared to be proud of their seafood options, I did not attempt those.
