I found Mezeh on Yelp and was in dire need of a vegan friendly lunch. I decided to do an online order for an easy in store pick-up (I had a toddler with me who was about 30 minutes away from a pre-nap meltdown, no time for dining in!) I downloaded their app which instantly gave me a $3 credit! Yay for deals! Their app was very user friendly and easy to navigate. I was able to build my meal (after googling some of the toppings) for under $12. You're able to select a base, protein, 8 toppings, and a dressing. YOU READ THAT RIGHT, 8 FREAKIN TOPPINGS. *wipes drool* if you'd like more toppings they're only an additional 50 cent per topping! All the deals! Upon entering the location I was in awe, it's like I had just met Chipotle's bougie rich auntie who was classy and cultured. The interior was modern and inviting with an open layout. They had various seating options and it seemed their ordering process was the same style as chipotle, subway, moe's etc where your meal is made in front of you. Y'ALL. The food definitely lived up to the hype of the Yelp reviews. It was delicious and fresh. It didn't feel like I was eating frozen veggies sautéed in a bowl. It tasted...dare I say it.... like REAL food. *gasps* The seasonings were a perfect blend and the serving size was more than enough to settle my appetite. Definitely worth the $12! Last note, shoutout to them for using paper products for easy recycling! They don't use plastic bags and their to-go silverware is plant based and biodegradable! Wow wow wow. Their system does not allow the redemption of a Groupon so use "cash" during the checkout method. My order was ready and bagged behind the cashier at the time I requested. The ingredients were fresh. If I ordered in-store I would have asked for extra extra greens. I loved the option to add chickpeas and sunflower seeds (CAVA does not have this). The kebab chicken was flavorful. Good food, similar type restaurant to Chipotle or Cava. You pick and choose what you want in your bowl. You choose a base - greens or grains or a mix of both which is what I usually get. Then you choose a protein and I almost always get the shredded lamb. Then you choose toppings and I frequently get a mixture of couscous, cilantro hummus, turkish salad and sometimes the toasted cauliflower. I usually don't get a sauce because I prefer without, but sometimes I'll be daring and get the Tzatziki. I've only ordered take out here, so never have had their drinks or dine-in service. I came here around lunch rush during a weekday, but they did an excellent job of keeping the line moving. The food tasted differently from CAVA and it was unique. They have a pita which I think tastes better than the one served at CAVA. Good portion since you are paying close to $10. In my opinion, Mezeh has more variety than CAVA as well. I will definitely be returning to Mezeh. Though parking for this location can be a bit of a pain. Mezeh is very similar to Cava, but I feel like Mezeh might have more of a variety of toppings. Though I do miss the tiny black lentils that Cava has. Mezeh has 2 or 3 bean-type salads vs Cava's 1. As someone who appreciates pickled things, Mezeh has more pickled toppings: onions, turnips, and carrots. They both have pita chips and chocolate chip cookies, but Mezeh has baklava. I'm normally not that into sweets but it was delicious. Cava had a lentil soup, whereas I didn't see a soup on Mezeh's menu. Cava also offers a kid's meal, I also didn't see that on the Mezeh menu. My friend and I decided to try Mezeh for the first time. This place follows the same cava and chipotle concept of building your own bowl, wrap, etc. I actually liked this place a lot more than cava because flavors were well balanced, not too salty, and portions were sizable. I ordered their mixed bowl of kale and bulgar and loaded everything pretty much. Chicken was tender -- not dry. My bowl ended up looking like a mountain and enjoyed every bite. This place is packed at lunch so we wait till dinner time to try it as there is no work crowd at dinner. It is very much like Cava which is one of our favorites. We get there around 615pm on a Thursday and there are only 2 people in line...awesome, right??? Uhhh...no. We wait for between 5-10 minutes to place our order. As we wait maybe 5 others come in so now there is a decent line. There are 5 people working and the line crew seems to be working on call ahead orders while we all wait. No real sense of urgency by the workers and I take a look and realize why...I don't see a Manager on shift. Can't say that definitively but would bet $ that is the case b/c if the line backed up like that and I'm the Manager I get the staff moving. Anyway, on to the food...first thing you notice is they offer a much bigger selection of toppings than Cava. I go to town and add the spicy and regular hummus, couscous, turkish salad, cucumbers, chickpeas, pickled onions, beets, etc. For the proteins I go with chicken shwarma and falafel. Base is half greens, half brown rice. Also add the shuug sauce. Huge bowl for approximately $10. The taste? I give 3.5 stars as everything is fresh, the chicken shwarma was tasty but the overall bowl was good, not great. I think Cava's toppings pack better taste although you get more choice here. I think it is a good addition to the RTC area. We will see who wins this Mediterranean fast casual war over the next few years. read more

Working mostly in Tysons and Reston for the last 5 years, the original Mediterranean love of my life was Cava. However, after this Mezeh location opened right next door to where I work in Reston, I think I've found a new favorite. The first time I came here, Mezeh was offering free entrées to tenants of the building I worked in. We stopped by at 11 AM on a Friday and there was already a line, unsurprisingly filled with people taking advantage of the free offer. I imagine it would've been much worse if we'd gone closer to noon. My coworkers and I liked it so much we came back the following Monday, this time on our own dime, and I really loved my meal both times. I got the falafel both times, first on a salad base, then on a rice base when I returned the 2nd time. Both times, with the huge number of toppings, my bowl was pretty big. I couldn't even finish all the rice in my 2nd bowl. All the toppings I tried were great, but my favorites were definitely the roasted corn, the caramelized eggplant, and the Israeli couscous. (I've had dreams about the caramelized eggplant.) My favorite dips were the spicy hummus and the spicy feta; I don't usually like spicy food, but these were both fantastic. I really appreciated how packed I could get my bowl without being upcharged along the way. If you're ordering in store (as I did both times, although I saw they have an app), my not-so-exciting advice would be to study the menu or at least grab a menu on your way in if you're not familiar with the offerings. There's so many toppings and I found it hard to see them all when the line got backed up. However, the glass is labeled with the toppings as well, if your eyesight is better than mine. The staff were also patient with me both times I went (as patient as they could be while staying efficient in the lunch rush). The restaurant is bright and beautifully decorated, and you can access the Nando's free wifi if you're desperate. For the amount of food you can get, the price per bowl is really reasonable. Came here for a change instead of the "other" fast casual chain of the type. This is much better in my opinion. The toppings are more flavorful and more authentic and there is more variety as well. I had the falafel and found it to be very flavorful. So many more toppings in general to choose from. Vegan, vegetarians have many more options here but meat eaters have plenty to fill them up as well. Grains go beyond the typical rice and lentils here as well. Overall, I really feel that the variety across the board here is better than most other places Staff is friendly and they don't make you feel rushed. As someone who gets easily overwhelmed by this style of fast-casual place, I must say that Mezeh was a really great experience! Luckily, at Mezeh it is hard to go wrong because I feel like all the options are super versatile. Although it seems like a minor detail, I really really appreciate that each item is marked if it is spicy because that can easily ruin a meal for me. This is where I think Chipotle and similar places miss the mark. I ordered a bowl with brown rice, chicken kabob (the not spicy option instead of Chicken Schwarma), quinoa salad, eggplant, roasted corn, chickpea salad, classic hummus, roasted vegetables and cherry tomatoes with a Tzatziki drizzle. Oh my gosh was it GOOD!! The chicken was wonderfully seasoned and flavorful, as was the eggplant and all other ingredients. The bowl is also served with a slice of fresh pita bread. To round-out the great menu, they have a Boylan soda fountain along with 3-4 fresh juice options for about the same price as a standard soda ($2.50). Service was efficient and friendly. Don't order delivery from here. I was torn on what to get for dinner after a long travel day and a hard workout. Instead of going out to pick up food i decided to order delivery while I showered because I thought it would be more efficient and I would still get some protein in me pretty quickly, since I was starving after working out. I placed an order for a simple bowl and was surprised that the original delivery estimation was so long. It looked like it might take up to an hour to arrive, surprising given it was a simple salad bowl and .4 miles from my location. I know they have to overestimate so I thought maybe it would come sooner and worst case I could wait one hour. Not only did it not come sooner, But in that hour the restaurant never created the order. After waiting 20 minutes past the original estimation of an entire hour I called GrubHub support who told me that their driver was waiting at the restaurant trying to get the order prepared. Apparently there was some issue technical issue preventing it from happening. In all of this time nobody contacted me-- not GrubHub and not the restaurant. I'm literally less than a mile away from this place and I could've walked there ordered it and walked back in this time but I chose delivery for efficiency. It's unbelievable to me that nobody contacted me and then when I try to ask for a discount or some sort of reimbursement for all of this I was told no, they could still cancel my order and refund me (an hour and 20 minutes past) or I could wait another 20 minutes since they would just now start preparing the order.
