We tried this spot that's been bookmarked for several months. The restaurant is roomy, but as the dinner hour approached it filled quickly, so plan accordingly. We sat at a table for 6, there were only 2 of us, but if we were asked, we would have happily welcomed others - community tables are a great way to meet folks. The menu is simple, all the options that are typically found on a Mexican restaurant menu. We happened to dine on the day where birria was the special; birria plate or quesa birria tacos. I opted for the tacos. They're served tacos only, I ordered a side of beans. My bestie had chicken taquitos, served with rice and beans. The salsa fresca was good, not spicy though. We asked for other salsa options and our server brought us their salsa verde and their spicy salsa. The salsa verde wasn't at all spicy, and the flavor was forgettable. The spicy salsa, which they sell in glass bottles will put hair on your chest. We added it to everything to kick things up a bit. It was good, and hot. Just the way we like. The food was fresh, and it filled our bellies...I just don't think it was good enough for us to make the short drive. Served with lettuce, sour cream, guacamole. I ordered the shredded beef taquitos and they were delicious. Perfectly crunchy and went so well with the salsa, guacamole and sour cream. SHRIMP BURRITO: Shrimp sauteed in salsa de la casa & pico de gallo, rice, beans, and cheese. Served with sour cream and guacamole on the side. The burrito is packed with shrimps and the rice and beans are flavorful. Top it off with some salsa, sour cream, and guacamole and you have yourself a party. We love coming to this place. I believe they are family owned and they certainly treat you like family when you are there. I usually go with my parents who live down the street. I'm a light eater so I usually order from their à la carte menu. The chicken taquitos are my go to. My folks always go for their tacos à la carte. Went in for taco Tuesday special, 250 tacos and three dollars for the Baja Fisher shrimp. The restaurant is small, but the ambience is really nice! They also have pretty quick service which is really nice, the only down side I would say is they have a sort of limited menu and their cocktails are on the sweeter side. We checked out this spot for their Taco Tuesday night, and overall, it was a pretty good family outing. They had a Taco Tuesday menu with $2.50 street tacos and $4 house margaritas, which was a nice deal. The place busy but we didn't have to wait for a table. We did wait about 15 minutes just to get menus, and it was definitely hot inside, like the AC wasn't quite doing its job. The waitress, though, was super friendly once she got to us, and we appreciated her warmth. The asada fries were decent, and my carne asada wet burrito was pretty good. The chicken taco salad my husband had was probably the best of the night, the tostada was crispy and soft, and the chicken was flavorful and perfectly cooked. My son's pork tamale was ok, a bit hit-or-miss in the pork flavor but the masa texture was so so good, the carne asada taco from the special was just okay. We did have a little incident where a drink slipped out of the waitress hand, it ended up on my daughter, so she was pretty wet, the waitress was really sweet and apologetic, and these things happen. The biggest downside for me was that they had no kids' menu, which is a big letdown for a family-friendly place. On the plus side, they did offer unlimited chips and salsa, and the salsa had this spicy almost pizza-like taste, which was kind of fun. Overall nice place with cute decor and vibe. read more

Great Mexican food. Located in a low key strip mall next to a 7 eleven. This was my second visit. The first time, I tried the asada fries and the green sauce carnitas burrito. What stood out then (and still does) is the quality of the meat and the sauces, which are flavorful and done well. Meat quality is higher than some comparative exican places. The fries themselves were fine, and portions felt just okay. Prices for entrees run a bit higher for the portion size, which is what keeps this from being a 5 star spot for me. The salsa, though, is fresh and excellent. On my second visit, my boyfriend and I shared a carnitas plate and a tamale. The same impressions held true: tasty food, solid, but entrees feel slightly overpriced for what you get. The tamale, however, is absolutely worth it, $6 for a generous, well made tamale is a great deal. At $17.50, the carnitas plate felt a bit high for the portion. Service is good but intentionally low key, which fits the casual vibe here. Overall, it's consistently a four star experience for me. read more

This Mexican place became my most favorite Mexican restaurant so far! The place is small and really cute with authentic decors, even the sink in the restroom is cute!! So far I've tried their tacos, chile relleno, enchiladas, taquitos and tamales. Tacos are ok, not very significant flavors or anything. However, other stuffs are really tasty, especially rice and beans. This is my opinion but if the Mexican restaurant serves you good rice and beans, then their food gotta be great. Jamaica is really fresh, little too sweet for me but it's easy to drink and taste good. Their complementary chips&salsa are really good, also the hot sauce that they give you I believe it's homemade is really tasty. I'm so happy I found this place! I found this spot a few years ago and totally forgot about it until I was reminded by my search for Mexican food and am glad I got reacquainted :) the restaurant itself is a bit hidden behind a gas station in a decent size plaza with ample amount of parking. There were plenty of tables available when I came around 5:30pm but after 6:00pm on a Tuesday it got packed and a line started to form. We ordered carne asada, al pastor, and fish tacos from the taco Tuesday menu and also a special vegetarian burrito. The taco Tuesday tacos: carne asada was soft and juicy, the al pastor was exploding with flavor, and unfortunately I let the fish taco sit for too long and it got soggy so I definitely recommend eating that first. It was still good and a bit on the spicy side. The only thing is the tacos are super tiny so you maybe want to eat a lot more ;) the veggie burrito with extra guacamole and Chile ranchero combined. It was really good and tasted authentic. The meal also include side of salsa and chips. Overall: I'm glad this place popped up and I got to revisit. Owner is incredibly friendly and helpful. Mezontle sits in an unassuming plaza with 7-Eleven and a gold jewelry store. But their inside decor is very unique and authentic to the cuisine. It certainly adds a nice touch to the experience. The service was great and the food was pretty good. We ordered their California burrito and the Carne Asada burrito and both were pretty good. One downside to their burrito is they don't evenly distribute the filling and your bites into the burrito can vary in meat, rice, beans, etc. And I wish they would wrap their burritos a little tighter. I brought home 2 caldo de pollo (chicken soup) and fed it to my kids. I discovered after we ate that the styrofoam cups the soups were in had melted into the soup. I called the restaurant to ask them to change the containers they are using for the soup in the future as it's clearly not suitable for hot food, but the person who answered the phone just asked me if I needed a new styrofoam cup. I was very alarmed that they weren't worried that we had just ingested melted styrofoam because of their packaging. Understand that your clientele here would pay a few extra bucks for containers that don't melt with hot food but would not go back to a restaurant where they made you eat styrofoam melted into your food. read more

I was very impressed with my meal here. The server was very nice and attentive. The chips and salsa were fresh with very good flavor. I ordered two hard tacos with shredded beef. I loved the taco shell. It was sturdy and didn't fall apart after bites. I really liked the shape. It fit perfectly in my hand and was easy to eat. I think I remember wishing there was some other aspect to the tacos, like salsa or creamy sauce, or like a guacamole salsa because they were a little bit dry. I ordered a chicken enchilada and chile relleno combination with rice and refried beans. My family ordered a chicken enchilada and taco combination, and we shared some shredded beef taquitos. Overall, the food was delicious and cooked in homestyle way. It was not as heavy and very light tasting. They advised us that they didn't use lard in the refried beans. My boyfriend and I had gone here once before for Taco Tuesday which was pretty good for $2.50 a taco. We went again for Taco Tuesday and it was a horrible dining experience. They were a bit busy so I understand that the two servers they had were a bit overwhelmed. The table next to us ordered right before we did and they got their food, ate and left by the time we got HALF of our order. The menu says "served family style" which I guess means you have to share one plate because we were not given extra plates other than what the 4 tacos were served on. We also didn't get any napkins. By the time we finished the 4 tacos we were served we decided it wasn't worth waiting for the other half of our order so we were going to cancel the order. Just as we were getting ready to leave they brought out the other half of our order. By this time we were so frustrated and fed up with the service that my boyfriend said that we didn't want the second part of the order and couldn't understand why ALL of our food wasn't brought out at once. The waitress was nice about it and didn't charge us for the food and let us take it home. It was a nice gesture but it was such a bad experience that we will not take our chances in going back. If they are not crowded this is a decent place to go but if they are you are better off going somewhere else to eat where your entire party can eat at the same time. read more

I would say 10 stars, I've been here a few times and have not been disappointed at all. This last time I had the torta ahogada with shredded beef. It was the second time I had it; however, this time the dish came out drowning in tasty and spicy sauce. Possibly the best shredded beef flavor I've had in a dish. Plus the sauce kicks you in the boo-boo, takes this dish to another level. My brother had the Al Pastor burrito and he also thought it was one of the best AP he's had. I found the chile relleno combination plate dinner to be quite good. The taste was there given that it was take-out. On the downside, the portions were disappointingly small. The enchilada and chile relleno could have been larger. On the same note the amount of rice and beans were insufficient. Why they would not provide substantially more beans and rice is beyond me; two very cheap sides. As far as pricing, it's not out of line at $17 but for that price I would like to feel full after my meal. read more
