Today's special, quesa birria tacos...served on their own.
    Sharon P.

We tried this spot that's been bookmarked for several months. The restaurant is roomy, but as the dinner hour approached it filled quickly, so plan accordingly. We sat at a table for 6, there were only 2 of us, but if we were asked, we would have happily welcomed others - community tables are a great way to meet folks. The menu is simple, all the options that are typically found on a Mexican restaurant menu. We happened to dine on the day where birria was the special; birria plate or quesa birria tacos. I opted for the tacos. They're served tacos only, I ordered a side of beans. My bestie had chicken taquitos, served with rice and beans. The salsa fresca was good, not spicy though. We asked for other salsa options and our server brought us their salsa verde and their spicy salsa. The salsa verde wasn't at all spicy, and the flavor was forgettable. The spicy salsa, which they sell in glass bottles will put hair on your chest. We added it to everything to kick things up a bit. It was good, and hot. Just the way we like. The food was fresh, and it filled our bellies...I just don't think it was good enough for us to make the short drive. Our local favorite spot wins the flavor profile on the quesa birria tacos and it's close to home . Service was speedy even though there was only one server. But again, the place started filling and by the time we were ready to pay, the server was juggling priorities.

Don't forget to ask for their house made hot sauce (habañero?). Very flavorful & adds quite a kick!

I can't believe I waited so long to try Mezontle! It's a bit hidden. I've driven by thousands of times without seeing it! They have great lunch and daily specials! Everything I've tried has been fresh and authentically prepared. The restaurant is quaint and welcoming. THE SERVICE IS ALWAYS OUTSTANDING! They are super knowledgeable about the menu, friendly, and attentive!!!

I'm very particular about food and everything else lol as well as Mexican food--especially now that I'm more mindful of how it's prepared--and everything here was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The shrimp and chicken fajitas we ordered were amazing along with everything else we ordered! The portions are generous, and you definitely get a great amount of food for what you order. The service was also wonderful; our waitress was so kind and attentive, and I only wish I remembered her name. This has officially become our go-to spot for fast, easy, clean, whenever we're craving Mexican food! Come check them out!

First time trying out this restaurant. The food was really good. I got the Huevos rancheros, they had a special house salsa that was really good! The food came out really quickly and their margaritas were amazing. This had a good family atmosphere for family outings. Service was great too.

We have been coming here for some time now and we absolutely love this place. The food is superb. The service is usually prompt and the staff are polite and courteous. So far my bad experiences are because when they are busy, the wait can be a bit long. Today was different though. It was busy as usual, since Tuesday's are Taco Tuesdays. However our food took longer than usual. I would say it was 35 min, maybe a little more. What was disappointing was not only did a table who sat 10-15 min after us were served first, my Fish Taco was cool to touch which was very upsetting. Although our server apologized and gave the drinks for free, I just couldn't believe this happened. I will still come back because we love this place. I hope they work on ensuring the food is served at proper temperature.

Went in for taco Tuesday special, 250 tacos and three dollars for the Baja Fisher shrimp. The restaurant is small, but the ambience is really nice! Service was really good, the staff were very attentive and helpful. I will definitely be back to try some other food options but the taco Tuesday is definitely worth it!

It was my first time here. Loved the interesting decor. I heard it was remodeled a few years ago. I ordered an Al Pastor Street Taco and a Baja Fish taco. Both delicious along with a Lime Margarita. Service was really friendly. Parking in the mini strip mall lot.

We checked out this spot for their Taco Tuesday night, and overall, it was a pretty good family outing. They had a Taco Tuesday menu with $2.50 street tacos and $4 house margaritas, which was a nice deal. The place busy but we didn't have to wait for a table. We did wait about 15 minutes just to get menus, and it was definitely hot inside, like the AC wasn't quite doing its job. The waitress, though, was super friendly once she got to us, and we appreciated her warmth. The asada fries were decent, and my carne asada wet burrito was pretty good. The chicken taco salad my husband had was probably the best of the night, the tostada was crispy and soft, and the chicken was flavorful and perfectly cooked. My son's pork tamale was ok, a bit hit-or-miss in the pork flavor but the masa texture was so so good, the carne asada taco from the special was just okay. We did have a little incident where a drink slipped out of the waitress hand, it ended up on my daughter, so she was pretty wet, the waitress was really sweet and apologetic, and these things happen. The biggest downside for me was that they had no kids' menu, which is a big letdown for a family-friendly place. On the plus side, they did offer unlimited chips and salsa, and the salsa had this spicy almost pizza-like taste, which was kind of fun. Overall nice place with cute decor and vibe.

Solid and cheap taco place in the South Bay! I had a friend in town who loves Mexican food and found this gem through social media. Parking was super easy in the lot. I ordered the 3 Street Tacos with Grilled Chicken, Carne Asada, and Carnitas for $10. Super cheap, and all were standard good. They also come with complimentary chips and salsa. Service was fast and efficient. Great quick spot.

First time here and I'll definitely be back for taco Thursday! Cheap and delicious! The tacos were fresh and delicious. The chipotle sauce on the fish and shrimp is spicy but good. The Al pastor was delicious! Some places taco Tuesday have wimpy tacos but definitely not this place! Tortillas were packed. Service was so friendly and attentive. Inside is super cute too.

Great Mexican food. Located in a low key strip mall next to a 7 eleven. This was my second visit. The first time, I tried the asada fries and the green sauce carnitas burrito. What stood out then (and still does) is the quality of the meat and the sauces, which are flavorful and done well. Meat quality is higher than some comparative exican places. The fries themselves were fine, and portions felt just okay. Prices for entrees run a bit higher for the portion size, which is what keeps this from being a 5 star spot for me. The salsa, though, is fresh and excellent. On my second visit, my boyfriend and I shared a carnitas plate and a tamale. The same impressions held true: tasty food, solid, but entrees feel slightly overpriced for what you get. The tamale, however, is absolutely worth it, $6 for a generous, well made tamale is a great deal. At $17.50, the carnitas plate felt a bit high for the portion. Service is good but intentionally low key, which fits the casual vibe here. Overall, it's consistently a four star experience for me.

Ordered a carne asada burrito from here. Arrived very quick, very fresh. Was on the cheaper side for the quality. I've definitely had better in LA, but quite good for the area.

Mike's burrito and the delicious salsa.

On Tuesday I got to try the chilaquiles here and they were by far the best I have ever had. The sauce was so flavorful, the tortilla chips fried to perfection, and the beans a great addition. As usual the staff always treats you like family. It's the perfect place to have any meal.

You can sit on the front patio ( where the live music happens, also good people watching), inside: small but cozy, or out on the back patio. The restaurant next door, Tin Roof, shares the back patio and there was an event happening out there the night we went, so the back patio was packed and loud, maybe check the Tin Roof calendar before planning your outing, but we wanted to listen to the music out front anyway, heat lamps on both. Speaking of Tin Roof, MB Wines seems to get a lot of Tin Roof folks waiting for their reservations or as a night cap after, so many comings and goings. Lots of foot traffic for Susie Cakes on the front patio as well, so you can take it as more good people watching opportunities or be prepared for some passer's by. Mall parking, then walk across the street, the Tin Roof event happening made it tougher than normal. Will be back on music nights, perfect mellow, enjoyable girl's night or date night spot.

You can tell the chefs are dedicated to the craft. They're a 2025 bib gourmand restaurant and are hoping to aim for their first star, so their efforts into the decor, ambiance, and food shows (good luck!). The waitstaff/chefs were also very attentive. Mussels Tart - really delicious. Super unique and beautifully plated. No taste of fishiness or the ocean. Just overall a 5/5 dish that you must try. Beef tongue - I normally enjoy beef tongue thinly sliced at a Korean BBQ restaurant or coarsely chopped up in a street taco. They do it differently here. The beef tongue is one big cube. It's very flavorful and tender. Not as amazing as the mussels tart but still worth a try. Chili crab - this put them on the map. SUPER DELICIOUS. It's not what you'd expect from a creation called 'chili crab'. There's no shell to be seen and the crab meat is actually buried underneath. Scoop from the inside out. Tons of flavor and I wished the portion size was doubled. Lamb pappardelle - if you like lamb then you'll love this. Lots of different spices and flavors. It has a very deep flavor profile that makes you appreciate all the work and thought that went into designing this dish. I'd get this again also! Strawberry tiramisu - they brought this out for the birthday celebration. They prepared it in a gigantic bowl. Scooped out a generous portion and plated it right in front of us. I have a soft spot for tiramisu so I'd recommend this too. Best of luck on the Michelin star! I'd come back. 5/5

The restaurant is very quaint located in a trendy and busy area of Hermosa Beach. Parking is scarce, even the lot a few blocks away is packed. Some of the dishes had nice flavor but since the place is chef-run, timeliness was an issue. It takes about 45 minutes per course because I'm sure there's a lot of pride invested in each dish. Since the portions are so tiny, you have a lot of time to talk. We started with the mussel tart. This was very tasty with smoked clam and fennel cream. The pastry coating was light but chewy. I would say the presentation was appealing but it reminded me of a Star Wars fighter jet. I was looking forward to the fish dish since we were hungry. Kinilaw is a local fish I wasn't familiar with. It was served with sweet potato and cucumber with coconut flavor. It was a tad underwhelming mostly because we were wondering where the fish was (see photo). The salad had nice flavor but I was not fond of the presentation. Either the plate was too big or this was a "half salad" concept. They are well known for the chili crab and it was delicious. However, this was another case of "where's Waldo" when trying to share the Santa Barbara rock crab meat. The porchetta felt like a heartier hot main dish. Very crispy skin and tender meat. Again dividing by four a bit challenging. Our server recommended it and it was a good suggestion. The broccoli purée and black eye peas were a unique accompaniment. The lamb pappardelle was an essential hot dish. The sausage was lamb and cumin with kale sprinkled on top. This dish was delicious and would be very shareable for two. The dessert was banana-themed. Our server was so pleasant and served it with a smile on an oversized plate. The place and staff are quite nice. The dishes, for the most part, are flavorful. Just be sure to have a few hours for dinner and don't expect to be too full.
