So, lets start with the ambience, sexy in a wholesome way. This restaurant has a great feel. Next, service, lovely servers are on top of everything but not hovering. I felt like they must treat their employees well since everyone who worked the night I was there was so upbeat and helpful. Finally the food. I got a special that was a shrimp and scallop with lemon pasta. My eyes rolled back in my head it was so so so delicious. Mezza Luna has a lot of outdoor seating and Allendale is a such a cute town. We started the night off with the scallop special, it had so much flavor and the scallops were perfectly cooked. I ended up choosing the Ragu special and my husband ordered a seafood pasta ( I forget the name but it was on the regular menu). Everything came out really nice and flavorful, and it was great that they had a gluten free pasta option for my husband. Even though we aren't big Italian eaters I would try it again. I would've given it a higher rating but the service was a little slow, and that could've just been because they were busier than they thought they would be. read more

We've always enjoyed this restaurant. They had a fire last year and were closed for a while to rebuild, but we hadn't had a chance to go. We heard they were offering a takeout special during the covid crisis, so we decided to order. For $40 we got two entrees, two appetizers, two salads, rolls, desserts and their signature rice balls. Mezza Luna always has held a place in my heart. Always reliable and pretty great Italian. Now, there are some things here that are near 10's and some 7's. I almost hesitate to give it a 5 and instead give it a 4. Not incredible but will be a good experience if you go to eat here. If you put this restaurant anywhere else but Bergen county, would be an easy 10/10. Too many phenomenal Italian joints in this area though. Try it for yourself though, you will enjoy it regardless. This is one of my top favorite local Italian restaurants. I have been dining here since it opened and the restaurant was located across the street in their now -Allendale Steak House building. Still just as good as it was since the early 2000's. I love coming here for lunch as the prices are super reasonable, portions huge and come with soup or salad. Ingredients are always fresh! I frequent a few times a year for dinner too. Recently we went for dinner and it was the first time I've been back since the restaurant reopened after their kitchen fire. So happy they were able to bounce back! Inside looked beautiful. Sleek grey walls, bright crisp white linens and the chairs popped with their black color and design on the back. Bathrooms super clean. We were served their complimentary bread and arincini or rice balls as you may know them. We are a big fan of their rice balls. So tender and you almost get the feeling you can have just one. Then you have to remember you are still eating dinner. After we ordered I ran across the street to grab a bottle of red. Conveniently there is a liquor store right there and they will chill any bottle upon your request in what they claim is 4 mins- bingo. For starters we ordered fried calamari and mussels in white wine sauce. Calamari was crisp and not overly battered or soggy. I just wish the portion was larger as it was hard to split between 4 people. Same for the muscles. They were so delicious I literally wanted to drink the broth and had no problem dipping multiple pieces of bread in it. But for 4 people we were hoping for more. still no complaints on taste or presentation Yum. Then came our dinner salad which arrives with any entree. Nicely dressed. We had a few varieties of pasta all which we enjoyed very much. Those portions were enormous. In my linguine and clams they were so many fresh clams out of the shell I was extremely impressed. No scaling back on fancy seafood. Our waiter was also superb. I wish I could recall his name but kudos for making our dinner A+. I'm so happy they're back and running and everything is just as good as it always was except the decor is even cooler. read more

Service impeccable! The special burrata appetizer was a great starter for a fabulous meal. The dishes were all appealing to the eye. The chicken Gorgonzola was a great dish with a creamy sauce that didn't overshadow the chicken. The chicken was tender and flavorful. And underneath was some sautéed spinach, fingerling potatoes and some creamy mashed potatoes. I would recommend this location without hesitation. We will be returning. read more

We had a gift certificate to this restaurant so first, know that they sell gift certificates. We made a reservation for 6:30 on a Friday and asked if they had baby/kid's high chairs, which they do. We arrived and the place was not filled but at 7pm it was PACKED and they had a wait. They also have outdoor seating but it was too cold. Pete and I had veal, which we enjoyed. The artichokes were the authentic Italian ones with the stems. Reminded me of Arthur Ave. My mom has shrimp scampi and risotto. In retrospect, she would have swamped the risotto for mashed potatoes after she tried mine. Very reasonable - a side of pasta is only $4 or $5 which is a perfect kid's size or a good size if two or three people all want a taste pasta. Service was excellent - very polite and professional. They were attentive with water refills. The prices were reasonable and the food was great. Nothing less than 5 stars. read more

My boyfriend and I were headed to another restaurant in town, but they were closed. The restaurant was nice enough to accommodate us, even though it was 9:30 pm (thank you so much ). I'm really glad we tried this place! We really liked everything. They give you complimentary fresh bread and rice balls in vodka sauce with parmigiano shavings-both were so good. For entrees, I got the fettucine carbonara and he got the chicken francese. Both were huge portions and we both got the leftovers wrapped up. The entire staff was also very nice. Thanks again! Spur of the moment decision to go out to eat and of course we decided on Mezza Luna! The staff is extremely accommodating and friendly, the service is flawless, and the food was absolutely fantastic. My go to meal is chicken Milanese and it was perfection. My husband ordered his favorite dish which is almond crusted sea bass over risotto, and it was fantastic!!! Mezza Luna. Half-moon for you non-italiani. Fertility. Regeneration. Werewolves. Werewolves? Oh yes... strap up we'll get there. There's nothing half-done at the half-moon let me tell you that. They started ya boy off with a quick rip at some meatballs in vodka sauce. We at the table were leaned back acting all cool waiting for someone to make the first move... you know the deal. Passing the awkward time with sips O' water until my tongue begins to rotate around my frozen lips. The water drips down my borderline overly-moisturized neck and dribbles down my collared t-shirt. My fat and fluffy nipples are now visible for all to see. My self-consciousness is unfound, as I've lost consciousness completely. Next thing I know...Table of 4 let me remind you, I wake up and find myself drowning in the sauce bowl along with one other at the table. We should be screaming for air but find ourselves shouting for more sauce. The waiters are scrambling, but not frantically. As if this reaction is common place. The other 2 at the table are on the floor, foreheads bruised and bodies covered in splashed sauce. It's evident now that all 4 of us dove head first into the bowl together and absolutely nogged each other. The stronger craniums won the battle. I begin to lick up the remaining sauce off of my compatriots, with no shame at all. The 2 on the ground both have broken noses, black and blue eyes, and vodka sauce dripping down their cheeks looking like gashes of blood. One of them now has a Harry Potter scar on his forehead and his rounded glasses are cracked. A sturdy wooden stick in his pocket falls out and I hand it back to him. I tell him he has a scar on his forehead in the shape of a bolt. He vanishes off to the bathroom in a snap of my jazzy fingers as if he used some time of invisible cloak or something. This was a blind double date btw never met this Brit before. Now that I write this out... was this? No... couldn't be.... Potta? As I am the wiser, I placed an order for 2 appetizer. Fried Calamari, as I live life simply to just to get myself tangled in tentacles. Literally and figuratively. Actually now that I look back I think we made it 3 antipasti to begin this party. Clams Oregenata, lovely juice on these lads as I recall. And some special snails I believe. I don't even partake in escargot but it was a special and I wanted to test some mentalities at this table. Are you a child disguised as an adult? Or will you get your slippery tongue involved with some slippery slugs? Grow up. Anyways I got a peep at some fagioli, not my cup of soup choice but I love saying the word. Now dinnna time. One dabbled in the Penne Alla Vodka. At this point, the waiters had us strapped to our seats so we couldn't attack the bowl again. Let me say this. I mean no exaggeration. THE BEST VODKA SAUCE IN THE BUSINESS. May I call it this, and please forgive me for using the lords name in vein. THE GODKA OF VODKA SAUCES. Mezzaluna you can take that if you please, no charge. I'm a man of the people what can I say. Chicken Sorrentino presented itself in front of me, delicious and delectable as always. Lovely take. Shrimp Fra Diavalo and Carciofi finished out the entrees. The smells at this table. Could've bottled this up and sold it as a cologne. Maybe even a perfume if you doused some lemon zest on the table bread? What? Shut up lemme think. Lemme eat. I'm re-tasting the contents of the meal. Re-sniffing the extravagant smells of the evening. Reliving the life of a man of a culture, of understanding, of love and of glory. That man is me, Linguini B. A street filled with lights, lights that are dwarfed by the stars burning bright in the sky. Stars shine the brightest under the lights, at night. Mezzaluna is a star, ready and raring to perform for it's customers. The half-moon restaurant acts like it's namesake in the sky... reels you in with it's maturity and symbolism. Then it lulls you to sleep with it's suggestion of fertility and it's healing and regenerative nature. In finalmente, it stirs you up like a madman. The craziness and uncertainty of night. The hair on your body... exponential growth. Your fangs begin to protrude from your mouth. Claws replace your nails. Aaaahhhhwooooooooo. Werewolf Bonotucci skips the check, leaving it for Harry Potter and the other two bozos. He ambushes the night sky and dominates the empty streets. The food was outstanding. The ambiance was good. They lose a star because of the service. We were a table of 6. They sat 3 of us while we waited for the other 3 to arrive. They brought out the rice balls and bread before everyone arrived, which I thought was odd. When everyone arrived, the waiter came over and jumped right to asking if we were ready to order. No greeting at all. I know it's a BYOB but he didn't even ask if anyone wanted anything non-alcoholic to drink. We had to ask twice for them to bring an ice bucket for our white wine. Then we ordered. Food arrived quickly but almost too quickly. We felt rushed. The minute I put down my fork, they took my plate and handed me a dessert menu. They cleared dessert and dropped the check even though we had not asked for it yet. 6 people had a 3 course meal in like an hour and 15 minutes. Maybe some would like that but we are 6 old friends who wanted to catch up. We felt very rushed. And no, there weren't any people waiting for our table. There were other empty tables around us most of the time we were there. And we didn't understand why they were rushing us when there was a party of 10 next to us that was there before us and still there when we left. Like I said, the food was amazing so I will definitely return, but hopefully next time we can have a relaxing meal and not feel like they wanted us to leave. read more

Came here with a big group. Definitely worth coming back here again for dates night. The place was very intimate, but very casual. The best of both worlds. The food was amazing. We ordered a bunch of apps for the table. Apps were the Polpettine, Calamari, Mozz Caprese. I personally order the NY Strip and an entree and my wife ordered the Jumbo Shrimp Scampi. The strip was cooked perfectly and the shrimp scampi was not as greasy as I thought it was going to be. The staff was very pleasant. Knew the menu in and out since we had a lot of questions. Also had to try the chocolate cake that they had. Extremely rich in chocolate. The place had a fresh and new look. Something that you don't see a lot in New Jersey. Yesterday, we had the best party ever for my future daughter-in-law's bridal shower at Mezza Luna Bistro. I am so thankful to the proprietor and chef, Adi Veseli, his brother, Eddie, his awesome staff - Angelo, Jimmy and all the rest- for making it such a memorable day for the bride-to-be and guests. They obliged us as we rearranged the tables. The cuisine was exceptional from the eggplant rollatini to the penne vodka (the best we've ever tasted), and the choice of veal marsala, chicken, and salmon. So many of the guests came up to me yesterday and called and texted after the party to tell me how delicious the food was. Their pricing is better than their competitors, their food is amazing, and their staff is like a family. Mezza Luna in Allendale is a favorite of ours always. The BYOB policy means you can have a nice night out without spending quite as much! Went last night with friends and I was very pleasantly surprised how amazing ALL of the dishes were. The arancini vodka sauce to start was a really nice touch. We then started with the beet salad, fried calamari and the ravioli special which I believe was a pear Gorgonzola pecan... omg yum! All delicious. We then split the Fettuccine Bolognese Alla Tartufo. AMAZING! And ended with some cappuccino's, their homemade tiramisu and you can never go wrong when you order the tartufo. Had a wonderful meal at Novelli in Wayne recently. Had three at Mezza Luna for the same price. Mezza Luna is a BYO restaurant. Liquor store across the street if you forget. Veal parmigiana is memorable. Veal chop parmigiana is an experience. You can get it Milanese as well. So the scale can go either way. Osso bucco is often available too. Plus all the standards.
