This is my friend's favorite restaurant and she was so excited to share it with me this evening. And wow, I can understand why she loves it so much. First off, you'll probably want to make a reservation. We arrived before the dinner crowd and while they were able to accommodate us, the dining room fills up fast at 6:30. We were at the bar and yes, the bar area filled up too. Almost too much as there were a couple that shared a single stool between them. Everything we had was perfectly delicious. Starting with seaweed salad followed by eel roll, a "box" roll, salmon and yellowtail sashimi, and the big hit was a filet mignon on a robata grill. What? Yes! Grilled right there in front of us and it was delicious. And finally, we shared two orders of mochi ice cream. Sake, beer and fantastic service. They have a full liquor license and the bartenders were cranking out some beautiful and creative cocktails while we enjoyed our dinner. The sake cooling decanter thing is pretty darned clever. It was already going to be a five star experience so here's five more stars and mentions to Jennifer and Jenny who served us with style. Overall this place was 5/5 in terms of food, service and ambiance. The meal was expensive but worth it. I've dined at MF Sushi a couple of times but finally writing a review~ The most recent visit was during Valentine's Day weekend. MF was busy, but luckily my SO made reservations a month in advance. We opted for the omakase experience - a first for us both. Omakase Courses ($150pp) Appetizers: 1. Miso soup with crab meat and mushrooms 2. Wakame seaweed salad with mushroom and quail egg 3. Egg custard with lobster tail and uni from Haikaiddo Sushi: 4. Salmon with truffle aioli and fresh wasabi 5. Lobster tempura topped with red masago 6. As soon as you walk through the main doors, you'll find the first-come-first-serve bar to your right. The left side is the main dining area and sushi bar. I believe there is outdoor seating available as well. Service: Great! At first, we were denied the omakase, but the head chef ended up accommodating us since we arrived early. Our server, Dat, was phenomenal! He was delightful and explained (and spelled out!) each plate that came out. Since it was a holiday weekend, service was understandably slower than usual. Our experience was nearly 4.5 hours. However, you can tell the staff was working hard and moving fast. We also noticed Alex, the owner, stopped by and even brought out drinks for the sushi chefs which was very nice. Parking: Self-parking garage. The restaurant does not validate. MF Sushi is a slightly hidden gem! The menu here is perfection. They have a wide range of fresh fish dishes as well as cooked options to appeal to a large party. The service is great, and I love the outfits that the servers wear. The whole vibe gave me a really chic mod metropolitan sushi shop. It's great for a date night or celebrations so you can also sit at the sushi counter. They have a special flame cooked method in which they offer a variety of meats. we got the duck breast. It came in the most delicious sauce. We ordered a side of rice just a slurp it all up. Next time I would go for more simple rolls. While the soft shell crab and tempura based rolls were great. A visit to MF Sushi does not disappoint! A highlight from the experience was learning about the new Head Chef who started here 2 years ago. He enjoys switching up the menu based on seasonal items and gets his fish overnight shipped from the Japanese fish market! That being said, the fish was delicious. We ordered a few appetizers (Fresh Yellowtail& calamari karaage), 2 rounds of Maguro Tuna sashimi, 1 round of Kinmadai, Albacore Tuna Tataki nigiri, filet mignon Toban Yaki and a few drinks. Each sashimi order gets you 4 slices and for nigiri you get 2. The filet was my least favorite dish, but still very yummy. The ambiance inside was cozy with dim lighting and a well set layout. If people are talking way too loud, you may hear their chat because the tables are relatively close together. Our waiter was great - he offered good recommendations and reviews and the food came out in a timely manner. You can park on the streets near the restaurant or pay for parking at the deck right next to MF. Overall, great visit! read more

This is one of my favorite spots for sushi in Atlanta. The parking can be hard to find on busier days, but there's a pay parking lot (for two hours I paid $7) connected right next to/behind the restaurant. Customer service has always been great here. You can make reservations by calling their phone number which is convenient. Food is always great. During my most recent visit (June 16) I ordered their kampachi, baked green mussels, otoro nigiri, the crunchy roll, baked scallops, and one of their cocktails. No complaints from me about their food. Their dynamite scallops and crunchy roll were my favorite. Presentation was on point. I really enjoyed the unique flavors on kampachi. I would say that the back seating area, past the sushi bar, can get a little dark and eating in low lighting takes some of the fun away if you enjoy seeing your food. Other than that, everything was great as usual! Next time I think I would definitely order the baked scallops and crunchy roll - and ask for extra sesame seeds on both & ask to be seating closer to the entrance of the restaurant with the better lighting. read more

So let me start with the positives - The food is absolutely fantastic. Incredibly fresh fish and very carefully presented rolls. I didnt find the roll selection incredibly interesting because its the same types of fish over and over just in different ways. I had the miso soup, baked scallops, really tasty (kinda cheesy and cheese is not mentioned), avocado balls (extremely tiny), tuna osaka box roll, eel roll, spicy yellow tail roll and a regular yellowtail/scallion roll. The cocktails were really good too. I had the green seed and my friend had the bonsai. both fantastic. Now the bad part - We had a 6pm reservation and were the 2nd party seated, by 7pm it was pretty full and they started to seat people at every available table. When they sat a couple right next to us (tables are about 2 ft apart at best) we inquired if they were practicing social distancing in which the response was "Not on nights when we have reservations". hmmmm ok. so basically you allow reservations at full capacity in a smaller restaurant giving people very little to no option to socially distance. We insisted the table next to us remain empty to allow space from the other tables and they did adhere to our request - only after coming back TWICE to tell us they have more reservations coming in. Quite frankly, that isnt my problem. Second issue was my friend's drink came out very syrup filled the first time and they attempted to fix it by either remaking or just adding more vodka. it was then too strong of the bottom shelf vodka taste so she asked to switch cocktails since she had it several times before and knew how great it could be. After a few minutes, the bartender comes to our table with the same glass in a pretty aggressive manner stating that she makes all the drinks the same and she didnt understand what the issue was. um...ma'am...are you trying to force someone to drink a cocktail you JUST made twice and they clearly arent happy with??? They do not validate parking..... Overall, nice spot, fresh sushi, great drinks. Zero care for customer comfort. I will not be spending my dollars here again. Great Sushi, Great Drinks, Great location. Food: The salmon roll is delicious. It's actually not what I ordered, but it was one of the rolls a friend ordered, and I didn't stop at tasting it; I ended it up eating half of the roll. That's how much I liked it. I ordered teriyaki salmon and a side of rice, it was good. The salmon was flavorful and flaky. Note: This dish is more of a small plate/tapas style. It's just a piece of salmon with some garnish on the plate. It doesn't come with rice or veggies like at most places. Calamari was great, hot and fresh. Drinks: I had the Purple Rain. This cocktail doesn't just taste amazing, it's beautiful too! Gin, lime, and honey... sweet, yet refreshing. It comes out purple, and garnished with flower petals. Sidenote: The bartenders are awesome. Even when everyone else has left the restaurant (including the other workers, because they've closed), they'll keep the bar going.. pouring, and talking. Location: North Highland area right near the Beltline and other restaurants and bars. There's a parking garage right next to MF, but there's also free street parking if you can get a spot. For context, my boyfriend and I planned to have a romantic omakase dinner during our vacation in Atlanta. After checking their website and available information online, we booked an online reservation one month in advance, only to be informed upon arrival that omakase is booked exclusively via phone call and that they were fully booked that night. Considering that we drove 4 hours to eat here, I was extremely bummed out, but I accepted my mistake. I just wish there were clearer instructions on how to book omakase. Anyways, we get seated at a very cramped table and are nearly bumping elbows with the couples next to us. I started with the geisha cocktail, which might be one of the best drinks I've ever had at a restaurant. For dinner, our kind server recommended the server's choice option, which has a similar concept as omakase except your server delivers it to your table from the kitchen/sushi bar. The food was absolutely delicious. Every dish was unique and of the upmost quality. However, I had an issue with the lobster dish, which gave me and my boyfriend heartburn and made it difficult to eat for about 30 minutes. Also, it was so loud inside at certain times that it was hard to hear each other speak. We were told that server's choice would amount to about the same as the omakase, but our bill was a couple hundred more than expected (not including tip). We must be honest: Atlanta is not known for amazing sushi. It just isn't. Good restaurants are few and far between, with a vast majority dominated by strip mall roll focused joints that can be found anywhere. MF Sushi is one of the older restaurants in the city that sits slightly above some of the more casual spots, but is certainly not upscale either. Although speaking nationally or globally it does not stand out, in Atlanta, it is a notch better than most other spots. The atmosphere is fine, but both interior decor and landscaping needs work. An an example, the patio is situated right by a car circle area, that is just largely concrete filled. The large open windows are also looking into some apartment buildings and the same street. A good landscaping effort is absolutely needed to add some trees and greenery to separate the patio and interior from the concrete. But, we are getting off point. The sushi here is generally very good. The rolls are excellent as well as are the sushi bar appetizers. Truffle Aioli Salmon is spectacular and loaded with flavor. I have had one extremely disappointing incident with Umi that was not fresh being served, which I had to return. Spicy Tuna Tartar is done very well, with excellent of crisp on the rice, without becoming too sticky either. Yellowtail Serrano is good as well. Chasing it down with Dark Mask sake or some Moet is a perfect way to go, especially with a wine list that is priced very, very reasonably at an average of 2x retail upcharge, in some cases even less. The presentation on drinks does need work, particularly in replacing cheap glassware for champagne with crystal pieces and serving sake in nicer cups instead of shot glasses. But, that's probably getting picky and all around, MF Sushi is an excellent mid tier restaurant for tasty sushi. read more

The sushi chefs select all of the dishes both on and off menu using their best selections of fish. Our experience was 11 total courses. Each one was just as good as the next. The fish was so fresh. Came here for a celebratory dinner and it was delicious. Highly recommend the signature nigiri. We had the o-toro, hamachi, madai, kampachi and the wagyu beef. The hamachi was my favorite. We also greatly enjoyed the regular nigiri, particularly the Hokkaido hotate, ama-ebi, unagi. The tamago should be ordered as sashimi. Not to be missed. Compared to the flavors of the other nigiri we ordered, the sake (salmon) seemed a bit flat but was still good. The crispy rice dish that was off the menu (suggested by the waitress) was good but I think I would have opted for more nigiri instead. I took my mom for her birthday and she doesn't really care for sashimi like that, but absolutely loved everything here. Out of everything we ordered, I recommend the First Kiss and Classic Jungle for drinks, Truffle Aioli Fresh Salmon, O-Toro Signature Nigiri, Miso Marinated Duck Breast Served on Hoba Leaf and Assorted Mushrooms. The First Kiss and Classic Jungle are the most expensive drinks on the menu for a reason. If you like sweet cocktails, these are the quality choices. The Truffle Aioli Fresh Salmon was so good, we got another order after finishing the first one. My mom doesn't even like truffle but it was one of her favorites. The O-Toro Signature Nigiri melts in your mouth, as expected from fatty tuna! Such a divine dish. The Duck Breast was so juicy and succulent. The marinate was delicious; paired perfectly with the duck! The Assorted Mushrooms were so good, we ordered two orders. I don't know what sauce they made for the mushrooms but it was addicting! Our server was incredibly enthusiastic and friendly; the service was super quick, and my mom even got complimentary mochi ice cream for her birthday!
