But since the bar was open, we decided to sit there. The waitress at the bar, informed us we needed to order immediately as the kitchen was getting ready to close. I've been to Barcelona Wine Bar on Highland Ave multiple times and have always had a great experience, which made this visit especially disappointing. The service was the main issue. Our waitress was not attentive and came across as unfriendly throughout the night. She never offered to refill our water, and we had to ask for bread even though it is typically brought to every table. She also walked by our table multiple times without checking in on us. We ordered all of our food at once, expecting the tapas to be coursed out properly, but they were not delivered in a way that aligns with how tapas are meant to be enjoyed. Items came out inconsistently, and we eventually had to remind her that we were still missing dishes. She did not seem to remember parts of our order, which further disrupted the experience. We are generally very understanding, but this level of service was unacceptable, especially for a restaurant we've consistently enjoyed in the past. To add to the frustration, when dessert arrived, we were not provided with clean silverware and had to use the same utensils from our earlier courses. At that point, we were over the experience. This was by far the worst visit I've had at this location, which is disappointing given how much I've previously enjoyed it. I hope management addresses these service issues. read more

We had such a positive experience at Barcelona for brunch. We went very early, 11:30 AM, and it was pretty empty in there so it was nice to experience the restaurant and it wasn't loud and crowded. We ordered so many things! For beverages we ordered one wine fly, red sangria, that we weren't very impressed with, and a cocktail that was like the bees knees. I think the drinks were OK. One of the things that I always note when I go to Barcelona is that the sangria seems very watered down and doesn't give you that Spanish true feeling of Of a a good sangria. For our food, we ordered a bunch of tacos, of course! We ordered croquettes, a charcuterie board to begin, spinach and chickpeas, grilled prawns, meatballs, beef, empanadas, acorn, squash, and a bunch of other things. I think the food was OK. The portion size for what we ordered and the amount that we ordered made sense. Overall, I'm just not very impressed with Barcelona in general, I feel like there are much better top of restaurants in the city, and even though the food was good, it didn't have a true depth the flavor and most of the dishes were missing something to me! One thing about me, I love and appreciate a tapas restaurant. To be able to order different food and share is definitely my favorite type of way to eat. Great spot for some drinks and tapas but a few things that gave it 4 stars. We had reservations but it took awhile to get us seated. Then they didn't bring out bread until halfway through our meal. The sangria was delicious and most of everything we ordered was good. We were warned Paella would take an hour and since we weren't in a rush, we ordered it. Yup, it took about an hour. It was ok! I stopped by while I waited for my reservation time at another restaurant. We had a reservation for a party of about 10 for Monday, 10/21/24. The table wasn't ready and we had to wait about 20 minutes or so. Someone ordered a salad and it wasn't until we were well into our tapas that the waiter came out saying they didn't have the lettuce for the salad. Seems like that should've been addressed much earlier. They tried to sell us on the chef's menu thing where the chef picks for you for a set price, but we ended up just ordering whatever we wanted as a table and it came out to be much cheaper than the chef's menu would've been. I had the Patatas Bravas, Broccolini, Cheese Plate, Whipped Sheep's Cheese, Burrata, Brussels Sprouts, Scallops, Croquetas, Bacon Wrapped Dates, and a few others. Most were very good. I went there for two times and tried several tapas. Enjoyed the chicken thigh most. Super tender with interesting sour and spicy sauce. The eggplant caponata, cauliflower and spinach spinach chickpea cazuela were also worth trying. Moreover, I really like their complimentary sourdough bread. Besides tapas, the service was friendly. However, the large dishes came very very very slow. The first time it took me over 50 min to get my paella, although I was told that it should be done in about 25 min. The second time I ordered a half portion parillada, waited for an hour with my friends until we gave up (both of us had a meeting later). We ended up only had some veggie for dinner and were hungry and annoyed that night. The lesson I learned? Be CAREFUL when ordering large plates there. Most of the food items are small plates, so keep that in mind. The waiters are all very friendly and helpful and I found that the food arrived quickly. We got the Patatas Bravas, Chorizo Picante, Grilled Chicken Thigh, and Aged Manchego. In addition, we were given complementary bread (which arrived hot and fresh from the oven) and olive oil. I loved eating the bread and olive oil together along with the Aged Manchego, which tasted like a smooth and yummy cheese, and Chorizo Picante, which had a smokier taste. I thought that the Grilled Chicken Thigh was cooked well; it was juicy and the skin had a slight crispiness to it but it came with a sauce called aji amarillo that was rather spicy and did not pair the best with the chicken in my opinion. The Patatas Bravas were pretty delicious, though! The potatoes were seasoned well on their own and had a garlic aioli over them. However, there was a salsa brava that came with the dish which I was not a fan of. It tasted really sweet and did not seem to match the savoriness of the Patatas Bravas. I did eat it with the potatoes and it tasted fine, but on its own the salsa brava was kind of weird. Overall, Barcelona Wine Bar is a nice restaurant to relax and wine down the night (or get the night started). There is an intimate vibe inside and there are so many food options that people are surely able to find what they like. read more

It's a "tapas" restaurant, and if you're like me and had to Google what that meant, it means "small plates". So if you want to eat and get full, prepare to order 3 plates. Maybe 4. Or they say they're shareable so the group can taste everything, but if you do that, prepare to order a LOT of plates. Service was excellent and helpful - we did have a bit of a wait for the food. But it wasn't bad. I ordered olives, beef empanadas, and the steak. First, I absolutely love olives and can eat them like popcorn. But these still had the pit inside, so I had to figure out a graceful way to eat these while spitting out the pits. I ended up not finishing them, just because of the hassle. The empanadas were delicious and the steak was just ok. It was very thin and slightly pink in the middle, which is how I like it. My coworker ordered the green beans, but she's a little picky, so she didn't like them. I, however, ate them like French fries - crunchy, coated with maybe oil and pepper flakes? Fantastic. The only complaint was the noise. So. Loud. We were shouting at each other, just to talk. When we left and stepped out on the sidewalk, my ears were so relieved.
