After checking numerous reviews and website menus, It appeared to me that Twisted Carrot was one of…read morethe most interesting restaurants in the area, in terms of menu and atmosphere. My dinner experience there certainly lived up to expectations. The restaurant is small, seating maybe about 30 people. I wouldn't call it intimate, but I would call it friendly. The menu items are enjoyably named, with some interesting ingredient and flavor combinations. Service is fast and friendly; 3 servers can take care of all the tables quite nicely, with time for fun conversation as you go. The cocktail list is small, and the drinks are simply garnished, but everything we tried was quite flavorful and reasonably priced. As an appetizer, the Moo Moo Dippers, filled with shaved ribeye and corned beef and combined with the remoulade sauce for dipping. were addicting. My salmon filet came atop a bed of roasted sweet potato and corn hash and a sauce on top to give it more interesting presentation and flavor. The pork medallions were similarly appealing. We passed on dessert, because most of the offerings had some form of caffeine in them (e.g., boozy affogato), but I'm certain they would have been equally delicious. I was surprised the restaurant closed so early on days they're actually open, i.e., 8pm. So if you want convenient dining, get there early for dinner, because it does fill up.

Food is excellent, service is wonderful, but they do not take reservations. Go early!read more

I came back into town for a few days and stopped by to get some food for my trip and noticed they had a cafe serving sammie's and smoothies and had to try one. They were all dedicated GF which was so amazing since I have celiac disease and it's really hard to find good freshly prepared food without risking cross contact & getting sick. I got the avocado toast sandwich and it was AMAZING! Also grabbed a matcha latte & pumpkin pie on my way out which both hit the spot. Hailey the owner (I hope i spelled that correctly) was the sweetest and I had a great conversation with her about nutrition. The co-op itself has so many gluten free, vegan, organic and locally sourced food options to buy in bulk or by the package. I love the environment they create here and the workers are always so friendly and helpful. They also have a section of pre-made food (most of which is vegan) and it all looks freshly made and delightful! The co-op is definitely one of the only places around here that i miss on the daily basis :,) Definitely recommend stopping by!

The batter in the fish was nice and it was a good serving size, but the fish itself was a little over and slightly tough. Coleslaw was unremarkable. Beautiful view of the marina / water. Nice outside table area. Food: close to inedible. I went to school at PSU and frequented Naked Turtle. I haven't been to the area in close to 20 years and while I'm the area decided to return. We ordered our food (Ceasar salad, wings, calamari and fish tacos) and upon one of the very first bites of his Ceasar salad, my brother bit into a nut from a bolt!!!!! Thankfully he did not break a tooth on it, nor did he swallow it - but this is a big problem. We brought the issue to Crystal's attention and she was apologetic and unhappy this happened to us. She wanted to make it right; but upon receiving our bill - we realized we were only compensated for the Ceasar salad. Our bill was still over $100. (Calamari was over cooked, fish tacos were "ok", wing sauce was good but wings need to be cooked longer - BUT after someone at your table bites into a piece of hardware.. it's kind of hard to enjoy any other food for fear of the same thing happening.) I have worked in food service for over 25 years. I have waitresses at numerous establishments both here in the area and in Kingston, NY. Standard practice would be to comp either all the food on the bill OR all the drinks - or offer a dessert at the very least. But to find an actual object in your food... that ended up in someone's mouth... and then to not even get a "sorry", really rubbed us the wrong way. I would never eat here again. Perhaps a drink or two, but skip the food.
