Mi amigo is conveniently located just off interstate 80. It's about three or four minutes in but certainly beats going to a service plaza for lunch. Authentic Mexican food, great lunch margarita, decently priced. we had fajitas one time and they were delicious, we came back a half a week later on our way back home to stop in for lunch again and had the enchilada Supremas with poblano sauce on top, all their food is great. The food is good. However they are horrible about providing salsa. They bring you 1/3 of a small bowl that last about 8 chips. It makes no sense. If you ask for more you get a stern warning, this is your last 1/3 bowl, if you want more you will have to pay. I don't mind paying I hate the process. Won't be back. read more

This is another hole in the wall hem in the main strip of new town falls right below faces lounge. Their food is always superb and extremely authentic. They serve the best Guava Margarita on the rocks. They have taco hard or soft chicken or beef specials on Tuesday too. Just beware they don't serve their fajitas with toppings each has to be ordered individually and run about 2-3.00 each which adds up and is disappointing but otherwise I highly recommend. read more

Ate here again on 14 June for the .99 cent tacos. Again on the soft corn tortillas and again, I got chicken and wife got shredded beef. The salsa is home made. Has cilantro. And is just spicy enough. Both times the chips came out warm. This time the wife and I got margaritas. Hers frozen and mine rocks. She loved hers. And I liked mine. And really happy for this. I got guacamole. The guacamole you get two choices. Either smooth blended, or, the kind we got. Diced avocado with salsa and seasonings. It was GREAT! And I mean GREAT GREAT GREAT! As good as any I have ever had anywhere in the USA or my few trips to Mexico. Next time, will try my favorite go-to Mexican dish. Chicken enchiladas with chili verde. I love that stuff. Hoping the sauce is nice and spicy. Right now I only have a single pic of my taco plate. Real close to street tacos. Not quite, but hey, this is Newton Falls ohio. So, I am happy. Will add some pix next visit. If I remember before I put a dent in the food. And the place is worth a drive from Salem or Akron or points in between. We were very disappointed in this restaurant. This was our first meal away from home since March. We sat outside and the waitress came to get our orders with her mask off her nose. After ordering someone from the kitchen delivered our food WITHOUT A MASK. The food was dry and old. There were 3 of us and we all felt the same. The waitress was removing used plates from other tables and delivering food to others at the same time. WITHOUT A MASK. Poor food and poor COVID-19 protocol. We will not return. REALLY PEOPLE. I always head into a Latin restaurant with high hopes....and equally high expectations. Being half Puerto Rican and growing up in the Latino hood....I have had me some great Latin food. So keep that in mind as you read on yo. I love the cute town this place is located in. Newton Falls is small town USA at its finest. The outside of this joint is unassuming. Plain Jane for sure. But, they have a patio....which instantly drew my attention as we passed it looking for a place to eat. Saw the patio and did an illegal U turn and bam, we were set to chow down amigos! Parking is a plenty in downtown NF so no worries there, although there is a lot you can grab a spot in....when the zombie apocalypse happens and all the zombies are dining on Mexican food. Walked in the front door and was happy to see a clean restaurant. Always love that! Bright Mexican style decor and a decent amount of seating for such a small place. The bar was rather disappointing to see.....very small, only a few chairs and the alcohol was not fully stocked. Have these people met Mexicans? Dude, you need like 50 types of tequila and enough Corona to fill the bed of my F150 (if I had one that is). Our waitress was super nice and very attentive. Brought us out some chips and salsa to start....I LOVED their salsa. It was nice and chunky and had a great chipotle pepper flavor. I ate 4 bowls of this stuff...DON'T JUDGE ME! Ordered the lunch specials. Speedy Gonzales (one taco, one enchilada and beans), side of guacamole, as well as #5 (chorizo and eggs with rice and beans). Honestly, all of it was just ok. The guac was puréed, the rice was not good and the taco was bland. The egg and chorizo mixture had good flavor, but was mushy and definitely tiny. Enchilada was very good...the sauce was killer! The beans were above average and had good texture. Overall, I wouldn't say this place was horrible. It had a few very nice features and their salsa was phenom! Would I go out of my way to go back? I've been going to this restaurant for several years. I've brough business partners and friends. I ALWAYS get a larger soup bowl of salsa the small one doesn't last and they never pay enough attention to bring more as I empty the small bowl. Tonight the server said the manager denied me the big bowl and the excuse was, the kitchen needs them. Ok, so I ask the manager that they bring me several small bowls at one time, the manager, and I hope a higher manager reads this, said no, we will bring you one small bowl at a time. It was busy and bring more that one at a time would have helped the workload. He could have offered to use a to go drink cup. Well hey ass hat, 1. not having enough larger soup bowls isn't my problem. 2. you could have offered to use any other kind of larger container like a plastic drink cup, but no, you have no freakin brains so now you've lost me and several of my friends and business partners that USE TO go there. I figure we spent about a little over $1,500 there last year. If the area supervisor reads this, let me know why you have fired the idiot and hired someone with a few more brains and better customer service skills and a problem solver that would recognize the solution to not have servers bringing me a single bowl ever 2-3 min. about how long the salsa in those small bowls last, and I will return. We have been customers here since they opened. Have regularly ordered carry out during the Covid-19 crisis, however never again. Two days ago when picking up our order my husband found the restaurant allowing large groups of people with no masks, and the SERVERS were not wearing masks. Any business that doesn't take public health seriously doesn't deserve our patronage. Masks are a very simple tool to help keep everyone safe. read more

Service is good but I don't believe that the chef understands English very well because if you ask for anything to be made differently than how its displayedin the menu, , like ^no this or that^ or" I'd like to get the 3 burritos but no chicken, I'd like to have all beef instead ^ kind of thing, your order may end up being all chicken no beef, or one beef two chicken,.. everything is wonderful, don't get me wrong, but I'm for real when I say that I don't believe the cooks speak or possibly understand English all that well. Mi Amigo popped up on my radar because it is the first and only Mexican Restaurant in Newton Falls and I love Mexican. Well, if I'm to be honest it is Mexican-American which is fine. We stopped after golf one day. It was fairly small inside and no one was there. The one person working sat us at a booth and brought us waters along with chips and salsa before ordering. She was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. The chips and salsa were standard fare. Nothing special. I always order enchiladas and a taco as my first meal at a New Mexican Restaurant. You can tell a lot from that meal. I had on beef, one chicken and one cheese enchilada. The taco was also beef. Refried beans and rice was served on the side. I also decided to order a frozen margarita since it was warm out. This just came out of a machine so it wasn't anything to get excited about. I found the beef and chicken to be rather bland but the enchilada sauce was excellent and helped with the flavor. I really liked the cheese enchilada. The beans and rice were not bad either. The taco is where you could really find the lack of flavor in the beef. After two bites I had to ask for hot sauce. This is why I like to order enchiladas and a taco as a first meal. You get to try the majority of of the fillings to see how they are. Mi Amigo wasn't amazing but it wasn't bad. Especially since it is the only game in town. I'd like to see them season their beef and chicken more and maybe put their own twist on dishes. Otherwise, this is typical Mexican-American fare you can find all over the place. Good for a quick fix in town but if you want a step up you can find better a few extra Mike's down the road. read more

This is my yearly review. I love this place. Of course it is American Mexican....but it is good. The Posadas Special is excellent! The Shrimp Cocktail is excellent! The service is excellent. The owner Mario makes an attempt to come out and visit the customers...which is something you do not see everywhere you go. This is a clean place, with good food and friendly people.
