Food is very average. Bakery options are sometimes stale and little hard. The empanadas are very plain and oily. What I really want to point out is how rude SOME of the waitresses in this establishment are. They pick up the phones with attitude. Every time I've gone, they tend to me with attitude, and bitterness. As if I'm bothering them for asking for my order. I've noticed they CHOOSE who to be polite with rather than being polite to everyone in general. Mi Colombia Bakery is one of many eateries along Elmora Avenue in Elizabeth, NJ, a nice spot to go for some shopping and a wide variety of eating including Sushi, Pizza, BBQ and more. While called a Bakery, that only describes half the store. One side is dedicated to being a bakery while the other is a full sit down restaurant, this review focuses on the bakery. Entering the bakery there are some small tables for seating (I'd say about 8-10 people can fit before it gets tight) and on the left is a counter where you can sit and eat (something I adore). Towards the back is the primary display with various baked goods including large loaves of sugared bread, cookies and one of my favorite things ever: pandebono. The bakery is bright and friendly looking and I give the staff high marks for always being pleasant and accomodating to me. I don't speak Spanish and I'm Chinese, so generally when I walk into establishments in this area I always get what I call "the look" which basically says "Why are you in my shop?". I never get that here and I truly appreciate that. I've bought two different items here so far. The first is their pendebono, a delicious cheese bread that is a sliver of heaven on Earth when you get it fresh. The ring shaped bread is best when crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, with a wonderful cheese flavor that rocks your taste buds. Mi Colombia does this bread very well but it's best to get a fresh, warm batch. I've also had their Palmier, which is nice and big and has a wonderful flavor. It's buttery, crisply and light while having a gentle sweetness. It is *almost* as good as the one I recently had at Financier, but not quite - still very good. I'm a repeat customer here and look forward to expanding my horizons here with some of their savory dishes down the line, but for now I can highly recommend their baked goods and service! read more

There are only two things worth ordering here; the empanada and the Bandeja Mi Columbia. However the portion for the bandeja has gotten smaller. It used to be served with two slabs of skirt steak instead of one and there was much more rice. The empanada is still solid but I'll probably look elsewhere for Columbian food moving forward. Parking is a consistent problem on Elmora so make sure you prepare yourself. The bakery could use some work too... read more

We came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch in search of their famous mini-empanadas. Service wasn't great and neither was the food. Ten minutes after our order was taken, we were informed they were out & were offered their regular ones. They came out with our meal, the bandeja típica, all of which was just okay. Great Colombian food and they have the best mini empanadas around. 50 for $25 is a pretty good deal if you tell me. I love the fact that their open from 5:00am till like 10:00pm I believe. This review is for the restaurant section of Mi Columbia. In the few times I've come here I've only ordered one dish, Bandeja Mi Columbia, and it is sooooo darn good. This dish consists of rice, red beans, avocado, egg, sausage, maduro, pork rind, and a skirt steak. They also have specialty colombian beverages. I've had Lulo con leche, Lulo con jugo, and Borojo (I think that's what it's called). All were very exotic tasting and made me feel like I was actually eating in Columbia. The restaurant, particularly the seating area, is clean, nice and well kept. What I also liked about it is that it doesn't have a restaurant atmosphere such as dim lights, a feeling of being indoors, and also a feeling that you will be there for a while. However, it is clearly a big step above a hole in the wall as the seating and furniture are of decent quality. While the staff does not speak English very well, I find this advantageous as I get to practice my Spanish, which is pretty much in need of practice. Since this dish with the drinks lands at around $15, I do not go here as often and I'd say once or at most twice a week is a close estimate. The times that I have come here nonetheless have left me full and very satisfied. read more

Horrible service they ignored me because I wasn't looking like a Latina

We were a party of five going to a Colombian restaurant in Elizabeth and we agreed to go to this particular restaurant. The atmosphere and waitresses were great as was the bakery. However bringing American (non spanish speaking or of Hispanic heritage) girls to this location was a disappointment, because I've been to so many other Colombian restaurants I did not like the fact that my friend told me the empadas she ordered were COLD! Empadas should be steaming hot where you can see the steam come out of it when you cut it open. The Chorizo should be longer than your finger and it wasn't the thickness was disappointing as well. My Jewish-American friend got empanadas and french fries, not being familiar with Colombian food and this was not a good first experience for her. I wanted her to try other things, but having a negative exp. with this simple order I was hesitant to recommend she try anything else. Please keep your food HOT! Because at times you may have American (non Colombian decent) customers in your restaurant and the timing of the food not being heated is going to have a positive or negative impact on a customers experience and quality of the food. read more

Restaurant section is okay except sometimes the service is a little slow, but the food is very authentica. The Postres (desert section suffers from shortages) but is good when you can get it (Flan). If you can wait for the slow service the food is good and well perportioned. read more

Compared to the other Colombian bakeries in Elizabeth, this bakery doesn't stand a chance. Their deditos were partially burned and the empanada was actually a bit cold. Also the service was very bad. Spanish is a second language to me and I had an employee smirk at my Spanish with other customers which doesn't make me ever want to go back. I would rather stick to La Fogata. much better service and food! read more
