How can you eat here and not come away with an immediate 5 out of 5? 4.0 is criminally underrating this place.... Ordered the California Burrito with Extra Steak and got some green sauce with it. It's fucking amazing, and it's HUGE. I shit you not, this is the best burrito I've ever eaten in my entire life. $15 for a footlong burrito, this thing should have been $30 minimum. I had half a mind to go to Qdoba and get a much worse burrito for $20 but I decided to give this place a shot, oh my god it's unbelievably good. Hometown joint that serves massive quantities. They are priced well and you know what you are getting every time. This is a comfort food place. Do not expect to get Birria or some fancy sauce. This is a tortilla with meat cheese and veg that will fill you up completely and tastes good. read more

Have been back to Alphonso's several times for burritos since our first disappointing visit long ago. The dinner platters were less than stellar, but the burritos are FABULOUS!!! Yesterday morning I had the Ranchero burrito from the breakfast menu and DAMN!!! These things are great! Steak, cheese, egg, bell pepper, onion & tomato. So good! And still so large it was breakfast and lunch. I don't tend to think of this place when I'm thinking of grabbing a quick bite, but I seriously need to change that, and I've made a resolution to do that! read more

So on a recent trip to Frankfort, we wanted to go to Thai Smile however, they were closed that day. So we had to look for other options that had good vegetarian options. That's how we stumbled upon Alfonso's tacos. Now, this spot is in an old Burger King that has been renovated and it's pretty cool. They have multiple options on their menu ranging from tacos to burritos along with breakfast options. I got one of the veggie burritos that was a Chile relleno and my partner got a steak burrito. It was as big as my arm! The tortillas that they utilized was large, soft and maintained their structure so well. This burrito was going to stay together on you. The burrito itself was so flavorful and they had great hot sauce options as well. The price was very reasonable and the quality was great. This was such a gem to find in Frankfort and I can't wait to go back. read more

I drive by this place pretty much every time I go to Frankfort. I've never stopped because it just doesn't look like the type of taco place I like. I never see any ladder trucks in the parking lot and the building is painted in a gaudy color like the chain Tex mex places. So I had pretty low expectations for this place and they were met. I got a taco asada and a taco carnitas. The menu said they come with pico de gallo and guacamole. I could not detect any guacamole on either of these tacos. There is a slight green substance that has seeds in it. I thought it was tomatillo in the pico but this might be what they call guacamole. The asada was waaaay over cooked and tough. It was also overly salty. The carnitas was also way over cooked, stringy, dry and bland. The salsa comes in a little plastic soufflé cup. It has the look and consistency of Ketchup. I asked for hot. It was not. I can't really describe the taste. It was odd and it did nothing to salvage these tacos. I think they are buying the cheapest stuff that Sysco offers. This place is a repurposed old Burger King building. I think I would have rather eaten at Burger King. read more

Have gotten take out a few times over the past 3-4 weeks from this place. We assumed it would be fast food/street style food. Instead, they serve near sit down restaurant quality Mexican food with a drive thru. What a pleasant surprise this place is. You will get Qdoba style burritos for around the same price....but much much much higher quality than the frozen trash at Qdoba. Overall, everything I've ordered from here has been great and super fast. Excellent service, great food/price ratio, and friendly employees from what I've encountered. Second time to try this place & am giddy with delight to report this follow up experience was light years better than the first! Hubs & I had a variety of things on our last visit, to get a taste of more than one item. We were left disappointed & underwhelmed, so when I stopped for breakfast burritos this morning, it was more to confirm our bad first impressions than redeem them. But NO!!! To our delight, the burritos were very good! Freshly made while I waited... egg, sausage, cheese & potato. And huge! They needed a little salt (as we found on our first visit) and a bit of tomatillo salsa I had at home. And the result was probably the best breakfast burrito either of us has ever had! And did I mention huge? About 10" long and just stuffed full of breakfast goodness! ***UPDATE*** Did I mention these are huge? We couldn't eat an entire burrito, so... 7 hours later and 1 minute in the microwave and they were damn near as good for dinner as they were for late breakfast! read more

This morning my wife brought home two breakfast burritos from Alfonso's, sausage, eggs, potatoes, and cheese. I must say that they have changed my impression of this restaurant. The burritos were delicious! Freshly made while my wife waited at the drive in window. They still have not found their salt shaker but other than needing a little salt and some salsa I could not have been happier. I was only able to finish half of the thing they were so big. Although we will not be returning for lunch/dinner we will definitely be coming back for breakfast. Rewarded the half that I didn't have room for at breakfast. We gotta taco bout this! First timer and thought I would try something new. Ordered three fish tacos and two shrimp. The tacos were so loaded with toppings that they needed two tortillas to hold it together. I commented as I ate that something was missing. I decided to take the last taco apart to see what it could have been. I realized that the first two tasted too much like toppings and no fish and the third taco confirmed it. Hmmm. I've been there 3 times now since they opened in town. The servings are large and I'm pretty sure it's made fresh. I want to like them. While the burritos are very large and the drive thru is convenient, don't waste your time if you are looking for taste and flavor. None whatsoever. Got a Kentucky burrito that was cheese, rice and chicken and the only way to describe it was blah... and leaves you feeling yuck. Had ordered from here before and got a bland shrimp taco (after paying for a shrimp burrito which is significantly more expensive, but didn't realize until I got all the way home) that was so, blah. With Mexican food I expect flavor and this place truly underwhelmed. I'm sure some people like more bland tasting food, so if that's you, this is the place to go. Yes, this is a taco shop in an old Burger King building. But I always go by the rule of thumb that hole in the wall places are the best! Although their carnitas is a bit bland, their carne asada is so flavorful and tender! My favorite are the street tacos. I am originally from California and these are straight up legit! Order a side of guacamole and some chips and you have a great meal. Word of caution, their hot salsa is on the spicy side but had good flavor. The staff is super fast and friendly. If you're craving some authentic street tacos - do yourself a favor and get the carne asada street tacos! You won't regret it! read more

I doordashed a grilled chicken torta while I was at work. I'm originally from California so I had my fingers crossed that the torta wasn't going to be "white-washed" but it was pretty authentic and overfilled just like all the vendors from home I miss so much and while there red sauce was a little bland the verde was awesome. Since I always keep my bottle of Valentina I wasn't too upset that I didn't get any spice with my food. read more

Alfonso's is a quick 10min drive from my house so I thought I'd give it a try one day after hearing about it from a few people at work. The first time I went I dined in and tried the Kentucky burrito. No complaints about it other than the salsa it was served with seemed very watery. The inside was kind of plain and definitely gave me former BK vibes. The food this was pretty decent. It came hot and fresh still steaming as it should for a quite attractive price for todays food market. I also decided try try one of their breakfast burritos as a take home item and upon trying it I was rather disappointed. I tried the meat loves burrito and although it had plenty of meat, it also had a heaping helping of soggy french fries in it. I'm not shy about potatoes on a burrito but these just tasted like left over fries thrown in there. Like a half pound of fries... It made the consistency very dry and definitely made me long for a dipping sauce of some sort to even out the consistency. The eggs and cheese almost seemed nonexistent compared to the amount of spuds shoved in there. There's definitely a balance for the ingredients list that was missed. Overall I will try this place again but will shy away from anything with potatoes in it. read more
