Yet another old time favorite that I have not been to in years since I stopped working downtown. While a lot has changed in the surrounding area, I'm glad to see ... and taste, that Nuestro has maintained its great food quality and fast, casual service and ambiance. Decided to practice self-care today and treated myself to a pre-Mother's Day lunch by myself. I opted for one of the lunch specials to keep the meal light because I wanted to indulge in a dessert treat afterwards. I chose the filet of fish with white rice, side of corn and pot beans. While I waited for main dish, the bowl of freshly fried tortilla chips and salsa begged me to munch on them. The salsa was thick and had a good amount of heat, which kept me reaching for more. My main of fish filet was slightly pan seared and came with a special sauce. What I appreciated very much is that they always serve pot beans and it's not just boiled beans like in other places. It looks like it has pico de gallo within the beans and it's served warm in a bowl with a bit of melted cheese on top. I capped it off with the Mexican flan that came with a cream sauce on the side. However, kI much preferred the natural syrup that the caramel created. While the temptation was there to finish the entire dessert, I thought about practicing self-care and stopped halfway through the plate. The decor and vibrant colors made me feel like I was at a restaurant right off the beach! Since I have a plant-based diet, I was excited to see they had a specific section on the menu for vegetarians. I had the veggie enchiladas and subbed the white sauce for green sauce. Most Mexican restaurants only offer cheese-stuffed enchiladas instead for no-meat eaters, so I was pleasantly surprised by this option. They were delicious! Now, I make my enchiladas at home the same way, with yellow squash, zucchini, and onion. The side of rice and beans were well seasoned. I recommend getting a glass of their horchata. The service was great, everyone was welcoming. They had mentioned they have an area in the back to host any birthday or celebration dinners. Definitely my new go-to for Mexican food in Bakersfield! read more

I feel like we finally found a good hole in the wall Mexican restaurant that we will be coming back to. Every employee was hustling and going above and beyond for the customer. They always made sure I had a full drink and chips to snacks on. The food was delicious and good size portions. Definitely, an authentic Mexican restaurant experience. Small, but solid spot. Love that they include cactus and other squash in their sautee. Tortillas looked handmade and tasted yum. Rice was on the dry side but still flavorful. Good food, I had the chile relleno with cheese and shrimp. Very unique meal, first time trying something like this. My brother had chipotle chicken and he said it was alright. Food portions were relatively small for the price. The ambiance was nice and wait staff were very attentive, checking in on us constantly. We were in Bakersfield for a funeral & as always, I researched on Yelp for the best Mexican Restaurant & decided to go to Nuestro Mexico because of the glowing reviews. It didn't disappoint. I usually order my favorite, Chile Relleno, but the Mariscos Poblano appealed to me, too. I asked Pepe, our waiter, if it was spicy, and he told me, it wasn't, and he encouraged me to get it, try something new. It wasn't a large dish, considering the price, and the few scallops were tiny and on the tough side, but the chunks of fish melted in your mouth, and the dish was really so tasty, I keep thinking about it, up to now. Another thing I loved about this place is their chips, they were served still hot, like fresh from the oven. I couldn't handle spicy salsa, though, so I asked Pepe for a milder one, and he brought me a creamy sauce that really hit the spot, wow! I asked Pepe what it's called & he told me, "enchilada suiza " - and if I could ask for it if I came back & he assured me, he'll remember. What a hidden gem! At least until my review is read. We were in Bakersfield for CIF wrestling and I did a search for Mexican food near the arena. Nuestro got good reviews which aren't always reliable. Not this time as the food was amazing, and the staff was the best. I don't get to Bakersfield often, but Nuestro is now on my must do list. read more

Small little restaurant. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food was very good. We had the combo fajitas and a side order of ceviche. Came out with warm tortillas that I swear were the best I've ever had. No sour cream or cheese with them, but did get guacamole. Service was very slow. If you are in a hurry or on a lunch break I wouldn't recommend. We say for 20 minutes waiting for our order to be taken. Once it was taken food came out quickly. Took another 15 minutes for us to get the check when done. Worth a visit, just plan to have time to wait. read more

The service was great. Very friendly and attentive. The food took a little bit to come to the table but once it came totally worth the wait! Ordered the fajitas delicious w carne asada quesadilla. Chips and salsa were fresh and tasty. Salsa w quesadilla was different and just as delicious. We sat outside which was nice. A little warm inside for us. Five stars all the way. In a town where Mexican food is as common as Starbucks, it can be difficult to weed out the all-stars from the ho-hum. Enter, Nuestro Mexico. Where great customer service and truly delicious Mexican food combine. It's such a rare combination, I'm thrilled it's only a few minutes from my downtown office. If you've been to the original La Costa Mariscos you may feel a little familiarity. That's because it's the same building, and most of the same employees! Slowly the place is transforming itself. With plenty of work to the back, and plans for a front patio, this little hole-in-the-wall is becoming quite the destination. In fact, finding a spot at lunch could be a little tricky. It seems that more and more people are finding out about this local gem. My choice? The chicken fajitas. Tender, juicy meat seasoned to perfection! The best part? The variety of veggies on the skillet. Not just the typical onions and green bell peppers. Oh no. There's mega variety! Red and yellow bell peppers and even various squash. She made our visit even more special by being incredibly attentive and friendly. She recommended the Nuestro Mexico tacos and bar, which I'm already planning to check out next weekend! Now, let's talk about why I love this place so much--the fajitas. No one else in town does them like Nuestro Mexico. The meat juicy, tender, and perfectly seasoned. My hubby and I just had lunch at Nuestro Mexico Restaurant - GREAT food! He ordered the fish tacos, I ordered chicken tacos + cup of posole lunch special - we shared it all. The quality of the food was excellent. Some of the best fish tacos I've had. The fish was fresh, and I love that they were so tasty without being fried. The posole (a customer favorite) was VERY good, full of chicken, hominy, and flavor without being overly spicey. Although I'm a healthy eater, I love a crispy taco, and theirs was damn good! Crispy, but not greasy. Not too much cheese, and plenty of chicken. The only thing preventing a perfect 5 STAR score? The water was horrible. I ordered a club soda, (which obviously came from the bar fountain) and it tasted of chlorine. The restaurant should purchase a water filtration unit. BUT, overall the meal was terrific! Quite obviously, I'm not an expert on Mexican food. However, I know when something tastes good! This place is definitely on my list of good food. It's nothing above average, but it certainly satisfies any cravings for Mexican food that I had. I had some fajitas which were piping hot and deliciously juicy. The sides are also a plus; traditional rice and beans with some tortillas to satisfy all your hunger. The food here is outstanding we had the shrimp and cheese tacos and the Mariscos Poblanos is a mix of shrimp scallops fish with a white creamy sauce pot beans and with rice. My friend mentioned that this place was fairly new but we decided to give it a try and we were very satisfied. The customer service was friendly and the staff is very attentive. The dinning area is sort of small but the atmosphere is very nice an comfortable. We will definitely revisit this place when we come back to Bakersfield. read more

Now this place isn't the greatest place ever for authentic Mexican food, I've had better for cheaper, but I don't leave it out simply because some f the menu items are just so gloriously good. The posole always hits the spot with it's warm tender meat and some crunchy tostadas. The chile poblano is also amazing if you want to try something cheesy and creamy with a bit of a kick. I got invited her by an uncle and so when my sister and I arrived to join him we were surprised to find the cutest Mexican restaurant ever. And that's not all, we were attended by courteous staff and attended very nicely. Our food was also good. Bomb.com!! Ordered the shrimp enchiladas... my mouth will be watering for the next week after that meal! Filled with flavor, that sour cream cheesy sauce, so good! Albondigas surprised me, if they were cooked a little longer they would've been softer the way I like them and they would've been 10/10, but they are a solid 9. The fish was really nothing special 3/10, but the rice was really good 10/10. The beans were dry 3/10. I ended up making burritos out of my leftover lettuce from my beef tacos and the basic fish and used the green salsa they offer. The blueberry whiskey sour was a 100!!!
