The entire staff at Nuestro Mexico is friendly and accommodating. Pepe, the owner, really knows how to make you feel welcome. We've been going to Nuestro Mexico forever. It started as La Costa and when those owners wanted a bigger restaurant, they left this downtown location to Pepe. We quite like the "feel" of the smaller place. While the metal chairs don't look that comfortable, they are really not that bad. We ordered the chicken fajita "sin cebolla", without onions. Be warned: they don't just make the fajita without onions, they give you extra bell pepper and squash. You also get chips and salsa as part of your meal. The chicken is tender, mildly spiced, with both colors of bell, and squash. Served with rice and beans with pico de gallo and a little guacamole, and a slice of lemon. While we didn't partake this time, Nuestro Mexico is a great place to enjoy a margarita, too. One of our favorite things is to start at Nuestro and head over to Maya Theater, just south on "Q" Street, for a movie. read more

First off, outstanding and courteous service! We really felt attended to during our visit. Secondly, their home-made salsa and freshly cooked tortilla chips were insane! I couldn't stop eating them because their salsa is absolutely delicious! I got the trio enchiladas plate, which was fantastic. So much flavor in each of them and the frijoles and Spanish rice complemented the main entrée deliciously. I used to work in East Los Angeles and Boyle Heights, so I am familiar with some of the top eateries there and believe me when I say that Nuestro Mexican Restaurant is among the very best of them and better than most. ¡Échale ganas, Nuestro Mexican Restaurant! We found this amazing, authentic Mexican restaurant through yelp. We were just passing through on our way to Hollywood and it did not disappoint. The staff is very inviting and friendly. Our food was DELICIOUS!!!! To start we had 2 micheladas that were perfect and the queso fundido came to our table sizzling hot with your choice of corn or flour tortillas, yum. For our entrees my husband ordered the shrimp enchiladas and he was very satisfied!! I ordered the chicken fajitas and they did not disappoint either our server Jose L was excellent as well, very attentive, thank you Jose L. Let me start by saying during my brief couple of days I was in Bakersfield, this was the best place I ate and their prices are super reasonable. Although it wasn't a five star experience, their trio enchiladas were, for the most part, excellent. Just $21.95 got me three enchiladas (one chili verde, one chicken, and one beef) with a side of rice and beans. The chicken, and chili verde enchiladas were amazing! Unfortunately, the beef enchilada was over seasoned and over cooked. Additionally their rice and beans were just ok and their salsa tasted very green and seedy. It was the right level of spicy but the flavor just wasn't quite there. The restaurant gave off fun vibes. A mix of classic Latin diner with a fusion of dia de los muerte and a hint of what's likely a cool spot to grab a drink in the later hours of a weekend evening. Our server was nice and welcoming. She greeted us at the door, seated us in a private area near the rear exit, and served us until the moment we settled up and were heading out. Although she was attentive to our drink refills, she fell short in the other areas. The only other issue I had was our bill included a mandatory 18% large party gratuity. While I understand the need for these type of things, we weren't really a large party. We were a few smaller 2-4 person groups running different tabs. We just went to lunch together while attending an event at the nearby Mechanics Bank Center. Mandated gratuity always offends me! It's pushy and not ok. Funny thing is everyone in our party would have paid more, but if you're going to force me to pay a specific percentage then I'm not adding to it. You asked for what you wanted and you got it. My only regret is not trying the watermelon margarita. The pictures and other reviews make it look and sound fire. read more

We ordered the house margarita and watermelon margarita and they were both good. The pastor tacos were really good! The cilantro cheese taquitos were just ok. Seen this review from my house in Covina and had to take a drive to go check this place out! What caught my attention was the chile encuerado. Im a sucker for authentic Mexican food... so there we went!! Arriving the place looked closed but clean on the outside. The eight pod looked chill so we waited 2-3 minutes, people came out and other cars started arriving. Within ten minutes of arriving to only two tables being serviced ended up being a full house. Definitely a good sign. !! We ordered the 3 enchilada combo, 3 item combo, side of guacamole and shared an albondigas soup. Everything hot, tested GREAT!! I find the drive here relaxing and the trip well worth it! Service was quick, polite, inviting for any questions and one of the owners even came up for a intro and explained in detail to what a Chile encuerado was... I love the atmosphere and it has a lot of cozy areas to sit. I ordered the pozole and two shredded beef tacos. The beef tacos were nothing special but that pozole was amazing! It was so flavorful and rich. I would order that every time! My husband's chile verde burrito was flavorful and they got his order right because he can't have cheese. There was a waiter whose name I didn't catch and he was so sweet. He never let our drinks empty and I don't think I ever saw him stop moving. Stopped here on a road trip to Southern California, and it was the rejuvenating meal we needed! The restaurant is very quaint-looking on the outside, but inside it is quite large with an entire back patio as well. We ordered the chicken flautas, which were deliciously crispy and filled with shredded chicken. The refried beans, rice, guac, and salsa on the side were so flavorful. I highly recommend this dish! We also got the steak burrito, which was ginormous. I appreciated how they didn't skimp on the fillings at all, and stuffed the burrito to the brim with meat. Lastly, we ordered the Mexican coffee...this was so unique! I was not expecting anything fancy, but it came in an adorable clay mug and the black coffee was already slightly sweetened and flavored with cinnamon. I am actually not a big coffee person, but this was sooo good!
