This was HUGE surprise for me. Mi Pais is tucked away in a strip mall-esqe and doesn't look anything from the ordinary. But looks are deceiving! Upon walking in, the owner greets you and gives you a run down of everything if you're a first timer. I got one of the main entrees, Bistec a caballo, and a passion fruit juice; the portion sizes are huge! The juices here are all made fresh, I strongly recommend getting one when you stop by. The steak has a mix of spice and the egg on top makes it that much better. After my meal, the owner came by asked me how everything was. Between the food and the friendliness of the staff, Mi Pais won me over. When you walk in, there's good amount of seating with a small market to the right. A Colombian spot I found in Efren, PA. They have all the traditional Colombian dishes, and even a little section with Colombian groceries. The staff was friendly and attentive. Parking was easy, and location was not too busy. I had the plate with rice, beans, sweet plantains and chicharron. The meal did take about 10 min to come out. The food was delicious but it's a little pricey for what I like to spend for lunch. The most economic plate was $13. I was glad to see this place though. read more

To be fair, I have not literally eaten in the restaurant (yet). My experience comes from the empanadas my husband keeps bringing home for me by request. This is one of the few local places I've seen that offers gluten free empanadas (corn based dough). The 3 fillings they offer include pork, beef, and cheese. The pork and beef fillings are mixed with potatoes and seasonings and the cheese is straight cheese. Sounds like it'd be too much but it is jusssttttttt right! So far I'm not a fan of their sauces, but the empanadas by themselves are just fine for me! Look forward to eating in one day. read more

The staff at Mi Pais were very helpful and friendly. They have menus is Spanish and English as well, which helped because my Spanish is a little rusty (i.e., nonexistent nowadays). On my first visit today I tried the empanadas. The Argentine empanadas had a flakier, more pie-like crust and were filled with delicious beef and oozing, melted cheese. A pretty rockin combo as anyone from this area knows! The chicken empanadas reminded me more of an egg roll. The shell was a little stiffer, the conents finely ground and a little on the drier side. But no worries, they'll give you two kinds of delicious salsa to moisten them up a bit. Can't wait to go back! read more

Hands down, the warmest, friendliest place I've had the pleasure of dining at recently - maybe EVER. I chose the Bandeja Paisa. It's a lot of food and was very good. The temperature was a bit uneven throughout; the egg yolk was perfectly runny in some places, congealed in others; and the plantains were overcooked to a chewy consistency but all of these gripes are minor since they did nothing to hurt the taste. The bacon is crazy smoky; I've never tasted anything like it. Amazing. Fatty as hell, though, just FYI. Mi Pais is the kind of place you'd find in the city but thankfully it's in the 'burbs and super convenient for me. Hidden ethnic gems like these are my favorite kind of restaurant. Wonderful food, service, and atmosphere. Our waitress was new, but very attentive and helpful. The owner provided back up for her when we had a question she couldn't answer. We enjoyed browsing the Colombian groceries and brought home some of the Crema they served with our ripe plantains. Everything we got was good. If you like ripe plantains, theirs are excellent. I was so happy that we came here for lunch. I had read the reviews, and had to try it out. We don't go out to lunch that often and I wanted something different, not the same old sandwiches fries or salad. The place is quaint and adorable and the staff was so welcoming and friendly. Raul took care of us send I think between me, the hubs and my father we sampled a decent portion of the menu. The empanadas were awesome! I loved all of them, but liked the Hawaiian the best. My dad got the seafood soup which he enjoyed. ( and I I wish I had gotten a bowl- next time!) We also tried the Colombian bacon, which was good. I has shredded chicken on green plaintains, very good. The hubs and dad got a traditional dish too ( pardon me, I speak no Spanish and my memory is shot do I can't remember the names of the dishes) but they thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The best Latin American food in the area. Deeper, more complex flavors than anywhere else. Wide variety of savory dishes, all very filling. Have had lunch there twice, today with my fiancee. We're definitely going back. Classic family restaurant established 2011 as a food store now 95% a restaurant. Every dish is high quality, and every flavor is to die for. All family recipes, including the homemade sauces. Very friendly, helpful service, especially Sebastian. It pays to ask for explanations and suggestions. Beef plantain soup is amazing, rich, not oily, best when enhanced with fresh lime juice. Roasted chicken plate is terrific with Peruvian yellow pepper sauce; salad very fresh, loved the Italian dressing. Sobrebarrigo - slow cooked flank steak with tomatoes and onion - appetizingly falls apart on your fork. Mi Pais Bandeja has a delicious steak, chorizos and thick Colombian bacon. Yum! Vanilla flan is individually made with lots of caramel on the bottom. Sweet but not too. read more

I had recently asked a Colombian friend about her home country cuisine (especially empanadas) and was taken to Mi Pias as a result. it is an unassuming place located at the end of a strip mall but I'm glad I now know where it is. My friend spoke to the owner in Spanish and our 'appetizers' were 4 Carne Empanadas served with a mild or medium green pepper sauce. the delightful deep fried pastries (?) were filled with a beef and potato filling that had a light texture and I would have been happy just to continue eating them for the rest of the evening. The addition of the pepper sauces only added to the flavor. There was a 'hot' sauce that I did not try and the medium sauce was just right. We then had Bandeja Mi País which, apparently, is a fairly common Colombian dish. Consisting of rice, red beans, egg, grilled steak, chorizo, Colombian bacon, avocado and sweet plantains. I wouldn't have thought 3 different meats would work well in one dish, but it does. I was expecting the dish to have a Mexican flavor to it, but that wasn't the case. The red beans, especially have a unique flavor to them. I'm a big guy, but I had to bring half of it home. To drink I had Maracuyá En Leche (Passion fruit with milk) that was excellent. Kind of a cross between a smoothie and milkshake. They also make the same thing with water, which makes it taste slightly different. In all, it was an excellent dining experience. Best Columbian food I have had. Some weekdays when we go there with friends, we usually tell ourselves "this place should be packed" - but are happy that it is not lest we run out of Columbian Bacon. The Cazuleta Mi Pais is the best dish on the menu - bacon, steak and sausage all in one with a side of sweet plantains.. The Empanadas - go in this order of tasting - Argentinian, Hawaiian and then the beef, chicken and cheese. And.. grab a comment card to fill for a free empanada on the next visit. Few things to note (and it would be a disservice to penalize the stars for this) - The Bacon sometimes has a lot more crunch than needed. You will know it when you bite into it (though not enough to break your tooth biting it) - The prices have gone up but they dont reflect on the menu. So you might want to ask them if the prices are the actual prices All in all great food. read more

Mì Pais is a Colombian restaurant in Malvern (on Rte 30). Having deep Miami roots, we're always looking for good, convenient Latin food. Mì Pais has a large selection of Latin comidas (food) and offers many dishes you won't easily find elsewhere. They are proud of their empanadas, but I have found them a bit greasy for my tastes. Actually that's is how I find their food pretty much across the board. Is it authentic? Perhaps a bit too authentic. The food is what you might find on any corner in Bogota, however expect to pay a big premium because it sits at the end of the Main Line (Malvern, Main Line? Don't say that in Ardmore). Very good chicharon. Lots of Latino products for sale too, but again the prices a somewhat high. But if you are in the Malvern area and crave Latin food, it's a convenient stop. read more

I dont rate people lowly frequently, and it doesnt make me feel good to do so. I went twice, once with a group of coworkers. I ordered easy as i wasnt partucularly hungry, a shish kebab, small and overpriced, not a big deal, and a few empanadas they were good. 3/5 I wanted to give them a chance to jave me like it though and a working lunch where I wasnt particularly hungry might not have been the best way. I went back for dinner with my girlfriend, she is a vegitarian (i know what a pain XD). She orders a vegtable platte(veggies rice beans plaintains) which she said there was nothing wrong with but not what she would expect from going to a restaraunt, bland and boring. She did comment that the plaintains were nice. The nail in their coffin foe me was the chicken and rice i ordered (arroz con pollo). It was terrible: The chicken was bland and what i would consided sparse, even for arroz con pollo. The pile of rice was reheated in a microwave so long that the chicken had congealed on the outside and was hot enough to burn my mouth on the middle. I am not a snob if it tastes good idc if they microwaved it but the chicken was horrible, it tastes as tho it were canned. The rice was overdone moreso than any other rice ive ever had. Absolutely delicious! I can't say enough about how happy I am for finding this place on yelp. Mi Pais was good enough for me to write my first review in a long time. I was in the area and ordered take out. The owner was very nice and chatted with me a bit. There's a grocery area to the right and a refrigerator area to the left, all full of Latin American goodies. I ordered the arroz con pollo with sweet plantains and a salad. Everything came out excellent. The plantains were delicious and the arroz con pollo was great! I asked for hot sauce, and they had mild, medium, or hot. I'm an avid hot sauce user, and their hot had quite the burn, but was very good. I picked up some stuff from the grocery area too: garlic plantain chips, milo (malted chocolate) cookies, and these chocolate coconut candies. All real tasty.
