Yuck. That's all, just yuck. But the service was good... however we will not be dining here again.

UPDATE: As of about six months ago, Mi Taza is under new management and many of the things I enjoyed (mostly menu-wise) is not gone. That said, read my review and see what we all missed out on. _______________________________________________________________ Whoa. This place is awesome. Ignore the fact that it says "Tex-Mex" outside. There is a full-on Latin-American menu inside. We went here for brunch this morning, and were blown away by how good it was. My counterpart enjoyed a delicious americano while I partook in one of their delicious "fruit drinks," a blended watermelon to be precise. Next up we enjoyed a sampler plate full of empanadas, plantains, lentil soup and arepas. We also ordered a chicken cachapa. And while I'm pretty much as white as they come, I'm also no stranger to Latin (Venezuelan) food. And as far as my experience goes, these were the most authentic cachapas I've had. They blew Zaguan on Oak Lawn in Dallas out of the water. We ate until we were full and then we ate some more. The cheese on the cachapas was about as delicious as you can imagine and I haven't really been able to stop thinking about eating there again since the moment I left. I do think they made a mistake in choosing their location. A place like this in downtown (central Denton) would make a killing. Instead, they're in sprawl-heavy South Denton, surrounded by milquetoast suburbia. I really hope this places catches on to it's immediately-local possible clientelle and that more people start dining here. I will be pretty darn POed if Mi Taza ends up closing. read more

We come here every Friday night. My husband currently has 19 check ins and I have 13. The one thing that is amazing about this place is their consistency!! The are ON POINT every single time. Whether you choose the fajita's or the street tacos or the chimichanga, or the flauta's, or my personal favorite, the enchilada's!!! They make fresh salsa every 3-4 hours and the manager is SUPER nice and always has a smile on his face. Love Love Love this place!!!! read more

My favorite sit down restaurant! The food is fresh and delicious; the staff is very friendly, and the prices are very good. My. Husband likes mole sauce and says theirs is the best ever! I went to lunch at Mi Taza today and I have to say they have a lot of work to do to gain any repeat business. The food is highly over-priced for Denton. A plate of three enchiladas for $9.99 and the sides are extra?! You've got to be kidding me. I should have walked out, but I stayed because I was curious. My wife and I ended up ordering $8.00 quesadillas. They were one large tortilla folded over some melted cheese and a bit of chicken with a tiny side of pico and a chipotle cream sauce. Meh. Nothing better than anything else in Denton. We ordered the child's quesadilla for our two year old for $4.99. It was the same size as ours, but she got apple and a strawberry. Go figure. The food was nothing special, good, but not extraordinary. The service was very bland, almost like we weren't there. For their prices, you would think you were getting haute cuisine. Instead you get inflated prices, small portions, and standard Tex-Mex. Hopefully, they'll figure it out, but I won't be going back to see. read more

This is one really great Mexican restaurant. Trump would tear down the fence and pay for it himself to get here it's so good. We took out round 1 of the chips and salsa faster than Governor Perry was removed from the presidential race. I would like to give this place a really good rating because we drove 50 mins to eat here based on their online hours but got there and found a sign taped to the door saying they were closed. Terribly disappointing but if they are planning on opening back up I would be willing to try again. read more

We recently had lunch at Mi Taza. The staff was great, they were very helpful and accommodating. The place was cozy and inviting. The chips and salsa were plentiful. The salsa wasn't my favorite but that is personal taste. The Beef Street Tacos were excellent! They accommodated my Daughter with gluten free cheese quesadillas on corn tortillas - the chips and salsa were also gluten free. We tried the sopapillas were fresh and the flan was fantastic (and gluten free!) We enjoyed trying this new (for us) restaurant and can recommend it. read more

We shop at the Kroger's next door all the time and decided to try Mi Taza out. While the location is good, you can get better food at Taco Bell. Tonights special was anything but special. My wife and I had the same enchilada plate, mine was chicken hers was beef. The chicken was obviously from the freezer and the "beef" was ground beef with no flavor. Coupled with what tasted like canned sauce and small portions our first experience will be our only. The place has potential but is on its second owner in a year. The other thing that really needs some help is you have no clue what the name of the place is once the menus disappear. There is absolutely nothing inside with the name on it and the servers are all wearing the same boring uniforms with no name tags. The owner should have put the money into this rather than the 3 flatpanel TV's that are all on different stations and quite honestly an annoyance. The place has potential but not the way its being run now or the quality of the food. Overall score: less than 2 on a scale of 5. read more

We ate here a couple of times when it first opened and did not care for it. We decided to give it another chance and we are sure glad we did. Something in the last 6 months has changed. This old favorite of ours may be changing. The name on the outside says "Mi Tata" now. We ordered quesadillas and taquitos and quac but didn't want the whole plate thing with rice and beans. They said that was fine but we were charged just as if we got the whole plate..... we even asked if it could be "a la carte" and they said no problem... of course it's no problem if you get half the food but are still charged the full amount. read more

A most pleasant suprise! Walk in the door and we were greeted by the most pleasant person (who was our waiter) ooohhhh the music; makes you want to get up and salsa. And then the margarita and food. If you are looking for a new place to visit you gotta try Mi Taza, the food is fabulous. We will definitely be regulars here! Did I mention the coffee? My 10 year old and tried it while Dad was out of town. Our bill seemed high $30 w tip of $5. I enjoyed crushed avocado served as guac, the hot sauce had little to no flavor. I had a sm marg on H. H. For 4.00 only at best worth $2. I was a bartender for 25 yrs that is not worth your money unless you are from up north and don't know good tex-me or Mexican food. Mi Taza is a great place with great food. The dinning room is small and comfortable making you feel very at home. The servers are Very nice; always making sure you get the best service. The weekends are busy, but that's when the restaurant really comes to life. My boyfriend and I come here all the time, and the service has always been so kind and considerate. The food is very tasty. My only complaint is their chips--not a huge fan (Chuy's wins in that department) but that's not enough to keep us away. The chicken bacon taquitos are amazing! $3.99 margaritas are a plus, as well... Definitely worth checking out! read more

All I can say is if you come here get the street tacos. You will regret it if you don't. This place is tucked in the corner at the shopping center which would make you think it could be easily missed but the locals know where to find the good food and this is it. It was obvious when we went on a Tuesday night and it was packed. The chips and salsa are fresh. The guacamole was delicious. We went for dinner Saturday night because we wanted to try something new. We noticed the menu looked almost identical to Mazaltan's and the chips and salsa tasted the same. We asked our waitress if they were the same, and she said they're "brother and sister restaurants". We were really bummed because we don't care for Mazaltan, and we could have driven a few blocks away to eat Mazaltan instead of halfway across town if we wanted it. We really felt duped. The food is exactly the same. It's just middle of the road Tex-Mex. I know people who love their food, but it isn't anything I really enjoy eating. read more

LEGIT Mexican food in Denton! EVERYTHING was amazing! We got the street tacos, rice, lentils, and the other dish is BACON Chicken flautas, rice, & refried beans. The rice was so freaking fluffy, legit Mexican rice (I'm really picky on Mexican rice)!! The lentils were seasoned correctly and super soft. The flautas, omgosh amaze balls, such a great combination of bacon with chicken, with a warm queso to dip in! We finished the dinner with sopapillas: fuffy, enough cinammon with sugar, and o'so delicious honey! The service was great, food came out fast and super hot, our waitress was BOMB . COM!!
