While I would have loved to give Miabel a 5 star review, I just couldn't because of my experience with one of their stylists. However, I do want to note that Jessica handled my situation very well, and I'm very thankful that she stepped in to try to fix a poor experience. My stylist was Liza from Salon 77 West. I had a small emergency pop up just before my appointment, but I called in to notify her that I would be 40 mins late. When I showed up, I asked to confirm that my appointment was from 10am to 2pm as it was stated in my confirmed appointment through Miabel. Unfortunately, I was told it was actually an hour shorter. That was problem number 1. I showed pictures of what I wanted for my hair and makeup, and Liza went to work on my hair. I was turned away from the mirror most of the time, so I didn't get a chance to look at the work in progress. At the end of it all, I asked to see the back, and to my utter surprise, it looked like a bird's nest. I was mortified but kindly asked if it would be smoothed out, frizziness resolved, and pieces tucked into place better. The answer was yes, but I'm just so shocked that even a trial that I paid so much money ended up in such an ugly mess. The makeup session was fine, but I felt as if my stylist was angry with me. She was rough on my face, dabbing foundation on like I was a brick wall, and haphazardly applying eye shadow in a rough fashion. The result looked fine, but it still wasn't what I wanted. I asked for darker eye shadow, which she continued to correct, but when I asked for no lip liner outline and instead a blended lip color, I still ended up with a frame of lip liner around my lips. Overall, I felt so ugly that day. I literally went out and cried, thinking how could I go back and pay even more money to look awful on my wedding day? I hired Miabel Artistry to do my bridal hair and make up, as well as the Mother of the Brides makeup for my outdoor summer wedding, and couldn't be more pleased with the result. Jessica, who owns the business, is a total professional. The results from my first trial weren't exactly what I wanted. It was an awkward situation but Jessica was a total professional and went immediately to look for solutions to fix it. She went out of her way to better understand the look I wanted and to match me with a hair stylist and make up artist who could nail my look. She was understanding, accommodating and responsive. She took away a lot of my stress. She even gave me a 2nd make up trial at no extra expense. Tiffany did my makeup and she is amazing. She gave me the natural, glowing makeup look I wanted that enhanced my features and looked great in photos. It also lasted all night, even through my crying and sweating. Annie did my hair and captured exactly what I wanted--an elegant low bun that was a touch undone. She made sure that it didn't hurt my head and showed me how to attach my veil. The updo stayed completely put throughout the night despite wind and dancing. Both Tiffany and Annie continually checked in with me throughout the trial and the day of to make sure everything was looking the way I wanted. They took their jobs seriously--showing up on time, setting up quickly and getting everything done on time. My mom and I were so pleased with the services from Miabel Artistry. I picked Jessica to do my hair and makeup for our wedding after looking around and getting a few recommendations. When I saw her website I knew instantly that she was going to do the most perfect job. After we signed the contract, we scheduled a trial run which happened to be hair and makeup for my engagement photos. She did such a great job and I received so many compliments on my hair and makeup after the photos were done. Because I really loved my hair and makeup for my engagement session, I didn't even schedule a test run for wedding hair and makeup. When the wedding day finally arrived, Jessica and her team even showed up early! We got started in shifts and before we knew it, we were all ready! Jessica even stayed late until after my dress was on to touch up my makeup. She gave me a really cute makeup bag with some powder, lip gloss, Altoids and mascara for touch ups throughout the night. A few of my friends (as well as planners at Nestldown, the venue for my wedding) recommended Miabel for my and my bridesmaid's hair & makeup for my wedding. Jen and Jessica were highly recommended for multicultural hair and make up and they were AMAZING. As someone of mixed race (African American, Caucasian, Native American), it has always been a challenge to find someone who could style my thin yet curly hair and find makeup that blended with my skin tone. My bridesmaids were a variety of asian and caucasian tones, some with burgundy-dyed hair, thick hair, thin hair, extensions, etc. Jen and Jessica made all of us look gorgeous, and amazingly cohesive despite all of our differences. We had so much fun chatting with them during my big day, and they even covered some of my tattoos and scars, so they wouldn't show while I walked down the aisle (my mom really appreciated this). Pricing was completely fair, they provide a full bridal make up/hair trial (phew! it's always great to have an idea of what you'll look like before the day comes) and they weren't rushing to leave or get through all of our looks at all. They even styled my mother and mother in law, last minute! Each person in my bridal party was able to give feedback about what they did and did not like for hair and make up and their team respected my bridesmaid's wishes, and even provided samples for touch ups so we still looked great/cohesive during photos taken later in the day. If you have a diverse wedding party, I can't recommend this team enough! I was so worried our different hair and skin tones would be a challenge, but Jen and Jennifer made us all feel naturally gorgeous. No one had weird makeup lines from their face to their neck, no one had faces that photographed differently than the skin tone on their body... it was absolute perfection. I could not have had a better experience for my hair and make-up on my wedding day! I got married last September in SF and Jessica and the Miabel team were the glam squad for me, my 7 bridesmaids, my mom and my mother in law. Not only is Jessica amazing to work with, we all looked beautiful. During my trial they were so patient with me as I decided on my look. I've never liked getting my makeup done before my trial, but I loved it and Jessica made me beautiful! My hair was also amazing and my bridesmaids were all stunning. Jessica did my hair and makeup for my engagement pictures (by fabulous photography duo Reece & Katrina Miller), and I loved it!! My skin is quite uneven with acne scarring, but after she was done it looked flawless. My eyes looked great also-they stood out wonderfully in the pictures. Finally, my hair was perfect! It was in beautiful big soft curls that framed my face-- I felt like a movie star! Amongst all of the wedding planning, I think finding a trustworthy and flexible hair and makeup artist is one of the hardest and most important items to find! Afterall, their work is what will live in ALL of your photos, videos, and family and friends memories! I found Jessica/Miabel through my wedding coordinator, Robin at Make it Happen! From the start, Jessica was awesome. Very prompt to respond to questions, gave advice on ideas, and super accommodating to the changing # of women needing services. Her and Nancy (hair) graciously were able to fit in one of my bridesmaids who initially did not want services until the day of and also my mom. What a relief! The trial was also a blast. We got to experiment with different ideas and also get to know their style. They are both so friendly, fun to be around, educational, and professional. I think the most impressive thing about both Jessica and Nancy is their attention to detail. Jessica truly makes a canvas out of your face and applies makeup so diligently and meticulously. She blends the perfect shades for your complexion and genuinely considers what you like and do not like. She is also very inquisitive about what you like and do not like so she clearly understands what and how to apply your vision. Often times you show hair and makeup artists a pic and they can rarely match it - in this case they both matched the elements of the pics I was after that best fit my look and style. I found Jessica via my amazing wedding planner (Make It Happen!). From the first conversation to the last, Jessica has been so easy to work with. I had a ridiculously large group of people needing hair / makeup on the day of. myself + 9 bridesmaids + 2 moms, so we ended up deciding to have four people with Miabel working on everyone. We scheduled my trial about 2 months before my wedding and it was SUCH an enjoyable experience, Nancy doing my hair, Jessica doing my makeup. They both were so easy to chat with, absolute professionals and really knew their stuff (which is awesome, bc i am def makeup challenged!). I was originally not going to put anything in my hair (clip, veil, etc), but they ended up suggesting i get something 'blingy' for my hair and i am SO glad they did - of course, they were right! A month before the wedding, she sent over a timeline she had pulled together of all the girls scheduling, who is getting what done when where with who, etc. SO DETAILED, it was great. The day of the wedding: the four girls showed up EARLY (woohoo!) and began setting up in the suite. My bridesmaids and i had an absolute blast while getting ready. I can be very picky with my hair and make up and have not loved what other stylists have done in the past. Sarah did such an amazing job with my hair and makeup for my wedding. She was very nice and really listened to my oppinion. For my trial she checked with me every step along the way to make sure it was the look I had in mind.
