I tried to do something nice for my wife and schedule her hair appointment at color chemistry. I made the appointment on Thursday afternoon for Friday afternoon. Unfortunately we recently lost. Our daughter and grief is a bitch, my wife is having a hard day today and decided she didn't have the energy to make it to the appointment. She called to cancel and was put on hold, while the receptionist looked into a cancellation fee? Nothing was ever said to me about a cancellation fee! I would not have made a surprise appointment. If I had known there was a cancellation fee. $100 is a bit steep to charge somebody. Just because they can't make it. Never again am I stepping foot in The Colour Chemistry Salon. I hope you learned your lesson, never take an appointment and not say there is a cancellation fee. read more

Just tried the new holistic Spa in town, it's next door to the Colour Chemistry Salon. I have rosacea, and super sensitive skin, their cosmetologist Michi did my facial. She used products that felt great on my skin, because I mentioned my rosacea when I scheduled my appointment she knew not to massage my skin too much to not irritate it. Her touch was gentle, she also used some cooling tools on my cheeks that felt amazingly refreshing to my face and I am so happy my face isn't bright red after my facial! Highly recommend them if you have sensitive skin like me. At this spa they use Osmosis skincare products which have a holistic approach. read more

Once again, Anastasia is the best stylist/hair artist I have ever been treated by. Today I got a cut with framing and a wash. She put in the best conditioning treatment and my hair is absolutely the healthiest it's felt since the last time I came in. I've had facials but nothing as relaxing and satisfying as my appt with Mina. I was apprehensive as I have sensitive skin that's gone from oily to dry as I've aged but Mina put me at ease and was very informative. I got the Vitamin A Infusion and enjoyed the entire process of warm towels, refreshing serums/creams and the very relaxing massage. Mina uses just the right pressure, quietly lets you knows where you are in the process and checks in with you. The room is very calming with warm blankets and soothing music. From Gloss to Neon Nightmare: My Hair's Bozo the Clown Glow Up I went to Colour Chemistry expecting a nice, subtle clear gloss to enhance my naturally grey hair (which took over a year to grow out, by the way). Jennifer Vasquez, the stylist and salon owner, suggested adding a "drop of gold" to warm it up. I asked if it was temporary--10 shampoos and it's gone--and she assured me that would be the case. And since I had a gloss before on my grey hair with a drop of purple (that didn't even show), I believed her. Fast forward to me looking in the mirror with neon orange hair that makes Bozo the Clown jealous. When I returned for a fix, Jennifer gave it a bleach shampoo and toner. When I pointed out, "My hair's still orange," her response? A casual, "Yep." She also told me, "The manufacturer's recommendation is just a guide, and I can't predict exactly how long the gloss will last on your hair." At this point, I'm suspicious she even used the right product on my hair--any thoughts on this, fellow readers? I asked Jennifer to reimburse me for the two out of six color correction services it will take to fix the damage, but she refused, saying it was unreasonable since she could fix it herself. But here's the thing--she caused the problem and didn't fix it on the second visit. She also never discussed a game plan for how to correct it. Would you go back to someone who destroyed your hair? Would you return to a mechanic who broke your brakes or a dry cleaner who ruined your favorite outfit? Long story short, this "temporary gloss" turned into permanent, traffic-cone orange that will take about a year to grow out completely. I've already had to chop my hair into a pixie and spent $325 on the first of many color correction treatments--none of which I should be paying for. Thank goodness for my new colorist, who's an absolute artist. She blended three different colors to create a soft platinum blonde with depth and dimension that will help my grey grow out again without the grey streak peeking through the orange. The neon nightmare is still underneath, but it's (thankfully) well hidden. Bonus points for the two months I skipped the gym because, let's be honest, neon orange hair doesn't exactly scream 'subtle' on the elliptical. So, Jennifer, thanks for the 'warm' tone. It's certainly lit, but not in the way I was hoping. read more
