And even if their system is that complicated, there's no preferred name option? Really? So they will refer to me as a single letter instead of my actual name. I've never run into this problem before at a medical provider office and I've been to many using the same insurance card. Imagine being taken back to have a procedure done under anesthesia and the assistant you've never met tries to greet you but doesn't know what to call you because your name is missing on your paperwork, and it's just a letter. Imagine they try to call your driver back after you're done, and they don't know what to announce. Imagine you get texts after your procedure, referring to you as a single letter instead of your first name. That's exactly what happened, and I was really surprised. It's poor customer service. It creates confusion and discomfort when you're already in a vulnerable position. I work at a medical office and I can't imagine treating a patient like that. It's such a basic standard to call people by their name. I let the office know my concern and they said they can't do anything about it. I'll go elsewhere next time.

I hadn't had an endoscopy before and was very anxious prior to my Monday appointment. I was advised that it was beneficial to have it done at the same time as my colonoscopy screening. At the surgery center, they flowed seamlessly. Organized and timely. Dr. Anita Spiess and her team were outstanding! The front desk lady, my pre RN Jeff, Intra op RN MJ, anesthesiologist, Jody, IV specialist Joanne and post op nurses Cedar and Colleen were all kind and professional. They answered every question with good bedside manners. I have never had a care provider be so obviously annoyed at seeing her own patients…read more I was 30 mins early for my appointment and waited over an hour to be seen. No one in the office even acknowledged it! When I got to the exam room, the doctor had asked me to pull down my pants with her watching. This was weird to me and gave me pause. Dr. McConnell was apparently annoyed at this because then she herself, grabbed the waistband of my pants and started tugging to pull them off, so hard that I almost fell off the exam table. I've never had a provider do this to me. To stay in the room and not provide a cover or gown was distressing enough but when the Dr tugged on my pants I shut down. She proceeded to tell me all about the procedure she was recommending, I asked her about how far out she was scheduling and she rolled her eyes and said, "talk to my staff." At check out I was told I would be able to schedule in the office for the procedure. I was living in extreme pain every single day and I had already waited a month for the consult. We scheduled the procedure for two weeks out, which was a really long time to wait in agony. She did not call in any medications. She did not give any directions. The day before surgery they called me and cancelled my procedure and told me I didn't meet the requirements to use their facility after all. I pleaded with the nurse about how I was living in excruciating pain and all she said was,"I don't make the rules." Dr. McConnell was cold, disrespectful, unprofessional and unwilling to provide any pain medication after surgery. Doctors and surgeons have a duty to provide pain relief after a procedure, to dismiss and belittle pain and suffering is not being a good care provider! The behavior of her staff I also found unacceptable and rude. It's easy to apologize for running behind on appointments. It's easy to have empathy when you hear a patient is in pain. I have been a veterinary nurse for 10+ years, I can't imagine being so heartless if a patient was suffering or in pain. We treat dogs better than I got treated here! I found a great surgeon that did my procedure, treated me with compassion like a human being, AND provided pain relief!!! All in 3 days after they cancelled on me last minute! What a concept!

I only met that doctor on the day of the procedure and never had any follow‑up care, but the office still refused to schedule me. I also want to mention that the staff was not very polite either time I called. While I understand offices have policies, the way it was communicated felt dismissive rather than helpful. It made an already frustrating situation even more disappointing. Because this has happened to me twice, I've decided to seek care with a different gastroenterology practice.
