That same night, while I was heavily sedated, I was served soup that was scalding hot and sustained burns inside my mouth, including damage to my tongue. My tongue tie was burned off. I reported this that night and then at my first post-op appointment and was told by the PA that I was not the only complaint that night. I was told they were short staffed and that it would be reported after our meeting. It was never documented. My dentist later told me I was fortunate the injury did not become infected. I have photos documenting this. The morning after surgery, I reported my pain as 10 out of 10 and asked them not to discharge me because I did not feel safe to leave. I was discharged anyway and told they needed the bed for incoming patients. In my records it states the nurse called my Dr with concerns. I was not seen prior to discharge and told to get dressed. Since April 10, 2024, I have been left with bilateral nerve damage, neuropathy that makes it difficult to walk, and muscle damage, all confirmed by EMG. I am now disabled. I have attached a photo of me on January 2024.Two months prior to surgery. I have since sought multiple medical opinions, and I have been told the damage is permanent. L4 Sequela (Post op damage) Remember: This hospital is owned by the Dr's I am sharing this so others understand the level of care I experienced and can make informed decisions.

Dr. Peters is a great surgeon. He always answered all my questions and explained things to me. I was nervous about having permanent swallowing issues and he was always honest and upfront with me. I had my surgery on 3/25/25. I was very impressed with the whole experience, even the Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine. They are very on top of infections and avoiding them at all costs. It took me 3 reschedules due to some medical stuff I had going on and Dr. Peters was very insistent that I could not have any type of possible infections going on anywhere in my body before surgery. Plus a big thing to know is DO NOT shave or get any cuts before surgery because they will send you home. One of the biggest reasons I went with Dr. Peters besides him being a good surgeon is that every time I called his office, his assistant Kailey got right back to me. It is important to me that I can get answers after surgery if something doesn't go right and I wanted a Doctor that I would get answers from right away. His assistant Kailey is the best!! She was with me the whole way from the beginning to the follow up. She helped me through the whole process. I am 2 weeks post surgery now and I feel pretty good. I am eating regular foods and sometimes I feel I am still swollen inside, I remind myself I am only 2 weeks out. I am very happy with my choice of surgeon and how everything went. I came in specifically because I was feeling unwell and suspected a blood sugar issue--especially since lab work from a different clinic the prior week showed a fasting glucose level high enough to indicate diabetes. Despite explaining this, the Physician Assistant (PA) dismissed my concerns, told me I "didn't fit the profile" for diabetes, and ordered a thyroid panel instead. Three days later, the support staff called to tell me they lost my blood sample and needed me to come back in. When I expressed frustration that they lost my sample for a test I didn't even ask for--while still refusing to run the metabolic panel I actually needed--the staff member literally hung up on me. I only returned the next day because it is within walking distance of my house and I was having the same feeling again, wanting to get to the bottom of what was happening. While the PA on duty that day was attentive, she ended up sending me to the ER for my blood pressure. After waiting four hours at the hospital, the ER doctor confirmed it wasn't an emergency at all. To top it all off, I received another call from the urgent care informing me that they did eventually run a metabolic panel, and my A1C and fasting glucose levels are, in fact, indicative of diabetes. Between the PA completely dismissing a patient's concerns, the staff losing blood samples, and being hung up on, the lack of professionalism and competence here is alarming. Go somewhere else.

CIGNA HMO Select is limited to being within network but it is so affordable compare to all the other HMO and PPO insurances that I had gone through. Dr. Todd Peters (now retired) and his assistant Kaylee were excellent for low back consultations, X-rays, and PT prescriptions--always available and thorough. Dr. Melikian, a spine specialist, saw me for neck/shoulder pain. Despite bringing neck X-rays/MRIs, he quickly identified shoulders as the primary issue (limited rotation vs. decent neck mobility) and referred me to Dr. Shore. He never rushed me, always ensured I had no more questions, and his assistant Joanna was phenomenal--one of the best I've encountered. She performed quick but detailed tests (grip strength, rotation, tender points) and genuinely cared, helping shift focus to my shoulder effectively. Dr. Vivek Babaria (pain management) treated chronic neck tightness and cervical radiculopathy. In 2023, he did facet joint injections; in 2025, an epidural steroid injection (C5-C7 herniations) that finally helped with issues where neck pain was keeping me from sleeping. His newer assistant Hank in late 2025 was equally impressive, starting with conservative treatment when I brought an MRI showing mild shoulder tendinosis/bursitis, prescribing PT and baclofen, then noting clear posture/pain improvement at month follow-up. They did not overtreat and go straight to another injection which was nice. From imaging reviews to injections and conservative care, everyone at DISC stands out for attentiveness and expertise. Highly recommend Dr. Melikian, Dr. Babaria, and likely anyone else for neck, back, shoulder, nerve, etc pain issues.

I am 5 days post-op and am feeling incredible. I have had no pain since I woke up from the surgery. I was walking the same day and as of today I am going up and down my stairs normally (not one step at a time). I've also been doing 15 minute walks twice a day. The ace bandage and ice machine have been key to keeping the swelling down, but super happy with the results. This is the best I've ever felt so quickly after surgery. For reference I'm 54 years old so impressed that I'm recovering so well compared to surgeries I had a decade ago.
