Been paying this guy for over 40 years without a single claim but rates keep going up over 10% in recent years. On top of that, the staff are always changing and don't know wtf they are doing and will be happy to argue w the frustrated customer. Will definitely switch to different Stare Farm agency OR possibly switch to different company. I have been a client of Michael Woo for about 10 years just for regular car and home insurance because its required. When I wanted to change a property to a multi unit rental, Andre dropped the ball and never really got my policy changed back in August 2020. I dont hear anything from them until I get a letter at the end of May from my mortgage company saying that they will buy insurance and charge me because I don't have insurance on the property. I freak out and call his office to explain and complain about the situation. She gets flustered and has the gall to say 'so you want to cancel your policies?' What?? I finally get in actual contact with Michael and he says I have to get an apartment policy because it 3 units. He sets me up with a monthly autopayment for all policies. And I think all is well and smoothed out. I go to refi, a girl from his office calls to verify because another mortgage company is calling for info. She tries to look up my policy and cant find it! She says it looks like it was cancelled without a reason shown. I tell her about the failures before and ask how come there was no word from their office when this was cancelled. She said she will look into and get back to me later that day. No word for a week, so I email Micheal asking what is going on? No reply, no call, nada. My loan officer reaches out via email to his office with me cc'd. I text him on his personal phone and ask what is going on? I email specifically that I want him or Julia to handle this situation and not Andre. What does he do? He has Andre call me and I let Andre know the whole situation and how I have no faith in him to do his job. During our conversation, he tells me he doesn't know why Michael set me up with an apartment policy and it should be 2 separate policies because there are 2 different structures. He says that he should have it in that day. I said that we'll see having no faith in him. I specifically told him to email me only because nothing gets done without having them put in where its recorded. And of course he didn't get it done until a few days and my mortgage company force me to buy their expensive insurance. So really to try to get a correct policy from their office took over a year. Needless to say I am no longer a client. I got an agent that actually follows up with calls and detailed emails. Not only that, the correct policy with higher coverage was 1000 less than what Micheal set me up with. So I pretty much paid 500 more for the incorrect coverage he charge me for a few months and the expensive insurance my mortgage company forced on me. Key Advice: Get a different agent. Get different quotes even with other State farm agents as you can have different agents for different policies. If you do choose/stay with him, get everything in email or text or whatever you need will most likely get forgotten. read more

After two consecutive house fires within two blocks of my apartment, it dawned on me that I should get renter's insurance ASAP. Losing all of my belongings in a house fire would be tragic and leave me naked and broke. Someone suggested getting renter's insurance through my auto insurance company, however the quote that I got from the Gecko was just way too high; I am only insuring one bedroom in a flat, not an entire house or grand piano. I went online to State Farm and within ten minutes I submitted my information for a quote. 24 hours later, I had an email in my inbox from Michael Woo's assistant with my quote - which was about $60 less than the Gecko's quote! I guessed the year my house was built in my original estimate because I am clueless about outer richmond architectural history and my landlord didn't know. I expressed this to State Farm and the underwriters did the research for me and corrected my quote. From there I had a brief, 5 minute conversation where I confirmed the quote and gave them my CC info. Done. I am covered for an entire year against theft, fire, the crazy cat people who live above me, and anything else that falls underneath my policy. I have been with State Farm for ~20 years now, started with Michael's dad, and somehow moved to him when his dad sold the business, I normally don't complain, pay on time automatically, and don't really demand much! I have worked with multiple people at Michael's office, the best employee he has ever had was Ali, I normally don't deal with Michael, however giving the fact that almost anyone I have worked with in the past was gone, I attempted to work with Michael, and let me tell you, he simply don't know how to work with customers, my last experience with him was the last straw, I truly feel that he is not there for us, at any point! but the way he was talking (Via email) was so rude, and unprofessional, to the point that I have now moved over to Kate McIntyre State Farm Agency! If you don't care how you are treated, go / stay with michael, otherwise there are so many other good agents out there, that will take your time, and review your policies and make the appropriate suggestions! As an example, I have been with michael for ~20 years, not once did he ask to review the policies with me, I just moved all my policies (auto, home, business, umbrella, hoa) over to Kate McIntyre State Farm Agency and the first thing they did is setup a face to face meeting to go over all my policies and make recommendations (Removed roadside as I have AAA, added miles discount as I drive under 12K per year, match my cars policies as they didn't have the same settings, etc...) 20 years not once did he reach out, just collected his paycheck, for another number in his portfolio!!! read more

If you are looking for customer service, unfortunately this is not your agency. I have been with Michael Woo/State Farm for many years - at least 15. At one time his service was excellent but in the last few years it has gone down hill. (Michael even asked me to write a Yelp review for him years back.) I have had two instances in the last few years when I really needed immediate help - one an auto accident, and the other, very recently, to insure a vacation home. In the first instance, I was brushed off to the corporate offices and in the second instance Michael did not bother to return emails or calls. To be fair, we have never met Michael in person and his assistant Ali was very nice to us...however, we haven't been happy with the way Michael has treated us thus far. Before we went on an international trip we decided to get renter's insurance so that we could insure our personal belongings as well as the belongings in our house in case something were to happen. We asked Michael if we could cover our mobile phones (iPhones) under our insurance and his answer was a very short, "No". We continued to persist to understand why and he kept replying, "The answer is no." -- instead of giving us an explanation. At one point in an email he said something to the effect of, "The answer is no. I'm not sure how many times I need to repeat myself.". We decided to call a different State Farm insurance agency to try and get the answers and they were more than happy to explain it to us - the first time we asked. iPhones were too high risk to insure (as people lose their phones *conveniently* when a new iPhone comes out). Okay, fair enough -- that is TOTALLY understandable and we were perfectly fine with that answer and didn't push it. Good news is, nothing happened to our phones. At least nothing that wasn't fixable. I really wish Michael had explained that to us instead of being short with us, unhelpful, and sometimes even down-right rude. We decided after that incident with him, to transfer to the other agency that was happy to explain it to us over the phone. At one point one of Michael's agents contacted us about our policy, in which Michael replied, "Client has switched to (other agent), you can stop communications.". Sure, it doesn't sound rude, but did he really need to CC us onto that email? A bit passive aggressive. To be honest, it's really hard to get context over text based communication, but we have never in our lives experienced something like this. State Farm, here in NEVADA, sends you to BRISTOL WEST. They Told me I'd be Paying $68 minimum. I agreed. they send me "Papers" to Digitally sign. Somewhere in the "papers", they offered ( I suppose) a discount, for going Paperless. then I get a Letter a few days later; the Agreement was: they were going to Automatically Take the Money from my Bank Account (!). I never agreed to that, ( but I guess I must have; they tricked me) Anyway... I called the place, they told me that there is a $40 penalty for UnDoing the Automatic pay. Supposedly I would also be paying ANOTHER $17. If I stopped the Automatic pay. When I asked the lady " Hold on, I never signed or agreed to Automatic pay".... she said " That was Included in the Original Quote, when you spoke to our representative"... I was like " Hold on.. when I got the papers, to Digitally sign, the Insurance premium was Still at $68 . I was offered the Discount at that time... and I had not agreed to ANYTHING... and . so, you aren't being honest. I ended up switching to Farmers (aka) Bristol West, thinking I would be paying $68 instead of $80 at my other insurance ! ... And not only was it the SAME.. but I am getting penalized for quitting their insurance. (!) read more

I received a letter from State Farm indicating that they are canceling my insurance due to making 2 claims on water damage in the past 2 years (the 1st claim was the fault of one of my neighbors). I spoke with Mike's assistant 4 days ago and sent a picture of the letter from State Farm 3 days ago at her request. I've worked with Michael and Ali for 6 years now. They've seen me and my insurance needs through two moves, a home purchase, a marriage, and several vehicle additions. I highly recommend them. You cannot get better quality of service for the price. They are always responsive, via e-mail or phone, and have the great patience to put up with my endless questions. They're not at all pushy about sales either, and always think about what's best for the customer over making a buck. **This is not Michael Woo's office - I never actually spoke with him*** I called about getting a renter's insurance policy, and never actually spoke with Michael, but got a call back from one of his staffers - Carly. She was generally responsive with my questions and in getting me a quote for a policy that I liked. When I asked for the paperwork to buy the policy, she said they would be in the mail. Over 2 months passed and I didn't receive anything. I emailed her to ask about the paperwork and got no response. I emailed again about a month later - no response. And then I got a letter in the mail stating my insurance policy had been cancelled because I had not completed supporting documents....which I had never received - even after numerous attempts to communicate with Carly that I hadn't received the paperwork. After reading through the letter, I was impressed it reached me at all - Carly had gotten my address wrong!! I was calling for renter's insurance.
