I'm a big fan of Michaels, specifically for their yarn selection (I'm a crocheter and knitter). I will say that I typically order online and pick up in-store. Picking up is definitely the way to go. The two times I've gone to a cashier, the line moves at a snail's pace, and the service is meh. Anyway, they always have sales, and sometimes, it's best to buy online and pick up because a lot of their coupons are for online purchases only. Worth a review update! Michaels has changed up their checkout system, and outfitted the whole space with large screened checkout systems (better than your typical grocery story automated checkout). They were super easy to use, FAST, and no line buildup. That was my main gripe with Michaels. On top of it, I went (in person) on Cyber Monday and got crazy deals on some holiday goods. read more

I am not an arts and craft kind of a person. I don't draw or paint. Basically, you can say I lack the artistic gene, but Michael's is a fun shop that might sell something you need. I browsed around in the past at this large, bi-level store located right on Atlantic Avenue. Made some small purchases that were mainly picture frames. There is a huge variety of frames in all sizes on the second floor. Upon this visit, I was looking for a plastic container bin, the kind The Container Store would carry. I asked someone if available at this store and was instructed to go upstairs, but when I got there, there wasn't much to select from. I think they were more to store paint and other craft materials. No luck in finding anything and I was disappointed. The store carries baskets, jewelry, faux flowers and more but with the exception of picture frames, I am not a regular shopper here. I never have a plan for any of my arts and craft projects so I just wing it by getting a bunch of stuff from Michael's and hope for the best in my creative process! I always have extra supplies that I've collected from over the years just from stocking up on the amazing selections they have. The staff is super nice and helpful. They are still cheerful even when you have a return, perhaps because they know I'll always come back for more goodies anyway! As for prices, they always have coupons you can easily find online, have them sent to your email for discounts up to 50% off. I can't really complain about things being too expensive here and if it ever is, chances are there's a coupon to bring the price down a bit. The frame department is great, too and the guy working in custom framing was totally nice. Also great to pick up quick standard-sized frames to go. I got a good 2 for 1 frame deal that was easy to find as soon as you get to the top of the escalator. If you come here on a busy day, the line will be wrapped around the aisles in the back of the store. They have a bunch of registers but not always full on staff to make the lines go faster. I promise it's no fun after spending an hour deciding on which craft supplies to buy and then having to stand in line for what feels like another hour... especially when you have to go to the bathroom! NOT sexy. This last time I came back they were out of a lot of scrapbooking supplies, themed stickers and lettering on the first floor. I'd like to hope it's because so many people are all trying to manifest the lives of their dreams to use it for vision boards but I hope they hurry and get stock in soon again! The only reason this place deserves any stars is bc of a manager named Chris who knows that when a store sells a product that is defective and does not work clearance policy or kot, you have to take it back. And, while I would love to give Chris and his store 5 stars for his commitment to customers, due to my horrible experience with another manager in the store that prompted me needing to talk to Chris, I simply cannot. I will not name his name as it's simply not worth it. While I am not going to go into the ridiculousness of this manager refusing to take back a clearance item that could have never worked as the items were missing parts (solar power lanterns), I just want to let him know that as a manager you have the right to make things right when products are defective. You simply chose to, which resulted in an awful customer experience. Also telling me to call customer service when you knew they wouldn't be able to help is both disrespectful, rude and a waste of time. Even your associates that were working the night my husband and I came in knew you were doing us a disservice and graciously tried to help. My advice to you: Get it together, be a better person and do a better job. Also, Chris confirmed that you do not product test your products on your roof, so also, please stop lying. read more

This Michaels is always a bit of a challenge. The staff & stock are hit-or-miss. Some employees are friendly, others with give you the death stare when asking for the location of an item. Most of them mean well, but with any request, they awkwardly move respond, seemingly unsure of the answer themselves. Stock-wise, you may come to get 4 things only to find half. But they do have a nice selection of items when they are there. I noticed some items are listed as in stock but are non existent in real life. I've tried to order from here to deliver same day to my house only to be disappointed by orders that were not processed until I called in a day and a half after the fact. The absolute worst thing about this place is the lines! It is always long and unbelievably slow. Recently, i had to confront a couple who refused to abide by the social distancing markers by creeping close behind me like pickpocking, day marauders. Ugh. The worst. It has everything you need from washi tape to cards to crocheting supplies, but it is smaller than the one I visit in Queens on Northern Blvd. The staff is kind and helpful, but they seem short-staffed. I usually visit on a weekend or during the evening and there is usually a line to check out, but it's the closest Micheal's to me in Brooklyn. I will most likely continue to visit due to convenience. There is a bus stop a block away as well. They also always offer 20% to 40% off one item, which is valid both online and in-store, so it's nice to sign up for e-mail promotions. tl;dr - A typical Michael's, a little smaller to the one I visit in Queens, kind staff, a line to check out, no parking lot read more

I like Michaels and wish they would open up another one in Brooklyn (it's either this one or the one all the way out in Gateway). This particular location has two floors and while they usually have everything I need in stock, I always recommend ordering ahead for pickup because the lines get very long, very quickly. Ordered for pick-up. Went to the store 3 hours after the order was supposed to be ready, and it was nowhere to be found. Staff was incredibly rude about it. During 15 minutes of no apology / explanation, three or four staff members argued and told each other repeatedly to "chill." Not exactly confidence-inspiring. Eventually the order materialized and was thrust at me wordlessly before the SA walked away in a huff, like I had personally ruined his day with my unreasonable insistence on being able to pick up my pick-up items, which I paid for. As a UPS Access Point, this Michaels is very disappointing for many reasons: 1. You end up standing on line with customers making purchases, which is unnecessary. 2. The Cashier points in a general direction when you get to the register and says, "over there." 3. There is no sign for a UPS Access Point. Nothing near the registers. Nothing on the door where the pickup is. Nothing anywhere to indicate there is a UPS Access Point in the store. 4. The person handling the packages has about as much personality as a wet rag. She comes out. She takes your name. She asks for ID. No hello. No, I'll be right back when she closes the door to the package area. Overall, if UPS didn't automatically just leave packages here without asking, I'd never go in. This store is nothing but understaffed, untrained and disinterested in the customers. read more

Met one cashier who was nice but a lady who seems to be the supervisor always has an attitude anytime I come to the store which I could understand if I was being a karen but all I did was ask to pick my order up since it wasn't in the display area and she got nasty. This was the second time and they let people skip you even though you're waiting for the same thing. What was intended for a 10-15 min trip to Michaels took over 40 minutes... Only one sales rep was behind the counter speaking on the phone very casually, and a line of about 15 people queued. There was ZERO sense of urgency at all. I understand they may be understaffed but there was no attempt made to speed up the line. When it was finally my turn, the cashier was no sense of urgency once again. If a line was that long in my store, I would do everything I could to get each transaction done as quickly as possible. I have been trying for a month to correct an online order. One item arrived damaged, another never arrived (I was told when I spoke to someone that this item was out of stock). I spoke to 4 representatives, 2 on a live chat, 2 on the phone. I was lied to, given misinformation, and told by the 4th person that I have to return the damaged item ( which the 1st person told me to discard) in person in a store. I am a regular customer but they did not seem to care about my business. So the latest conversation with customer service ended with him telling me to return the item in store which I already discarded. Would not listen to reason, kept putting me on hold. Basically I was told that I am not getting a replacement for the damaged item and I am not getting a refund for the out of stock item. I'm going to shop at Jo-Ann's from now on. read more

Placed an order online and picked up in store. Delivery was fast and the pickup was also fast. This is the first time in a Michaels and they seem to have all your stationary needs and more, however I noticed the prices are a bit high. They might have the variety but I'm sure if you look online, Walmart or amazon might have the same for less. This place is a scam. I asked for black wood custom frames and received frames made of mdf - which is inferior quality. Their prices are also scammy. They charge for $600+ for custom frames of crappy material - way more expensive than local quality frames - but then offer lofty discounts between 50-70% off to make it seem like a deal, when in reality it is still overpriced garbage.
