Went to Michaels yesterday for an early dinner with my family. I got the crimson lotus cocktail which is my absolute favorite (I haven't tried any of their other cocktails, but really like this one!) For an appetizer, we had the fried green tomatoes, but they were a bit disappointing. The corn hash that came with the tomatoes didn't have much flavor and was super watery. The tomatoes were basically immersed in this weird water (not quite a sauce) and they just didn't taste good. I had the turkey burger which was a 10 out of 10. This burger was the complete opposite of the tomatoes; the patty was well seasoned and all the ingredients just worked well. 2 other people in my party had the classic burgers and they both said the same thing about their burgers (well seasoned and well cooked). My husband had the shrimp and grits which he enjoyed, but there was too much bacon and it was super spicy. Our server... there isn't a lot to say about our her, she just wasn't super friendly and lacked the charisma that most servers have. Lastly, the music choice was a bit odd and just a bit too loud. My husband and I have gone here for years several times a month. This evening was so surprising. First we waited a long time until the server came over to us. She finally did and said her name was Kaitlyn. I asked if the prime Rib had butter and she said no. I informed her that I was allergic to butter. I asked can you double check on that for me. She came back and said they would make it without butter. So I asked for a salad instead of the mashed potatoes and green beans that had butter. When the meal came out I was surprised to see mashed potatoes and green beans soaked in butter with the prime rib on top. When I said something to her she became annoyed and did not come back. I sent the order back and she took the check and off she went. This is the worst customer service I have ever had. I would not recommend Michael's to anyone any more- read more

Not sure about the rest of the menu, but we came here for the crab cakes and the crab cakes are excellent. But first, we sampled a cup of Cream of Crab soup and that is very good as well. The side of house made coleslaw was very interesting. It was less creamy, a bit more vinegar with the cabbage sheared into substantially thinner strips. All of the accessories were fine, but again, we are here for the crab cakes. Here, the crab cakes are spiced with a nice variety that makes these stand out. The preparation was perfect as well. No mushy underside. As we try the enviable task of ranking Maryland Crab Cakes, these now become my second favorite, bested only by Duda's. Regardless, we will continue the task of sampling crab cakes in Baltimore for as long as it takes. It's tough work, but someone has to do it! read more

This was my first time in this restaurant. Got invited to a wholesome Bachelor's Party, if you know what I mean. The ambience was nice, a little bit in the upper tier of a regular steak house but with the price of a Stony River steak house kind of thing. The only downside is it was cold. Their sides ascribe to my taste but not to my wallet, I should say. They have raw oysters which I love and Baltimore crab cakes although I didn't have them since I am allergic to crustaceans. I had the Yellowfish Tuna sandwich, it was delicious. Although not substantial, at least it's healthy. I am looking forward to go back on a special occasion to try their steaks. What a nice experience this was! Our waitress Carrie was top notch! She took great care of us throughout or time there. We had dinner with friends on a busy Saturday night. So we stopped for lunch in Timonium, at Michael's cafe. Not too shabby!! We had the grilled octopus, lamb meatballs w/hummus and greek village salad (Awesome!!), and some fried green tomatoes for the first round (all very good). For the second round we had tuna tartar (underwhelming), fried brussel sprouts with a buffalo sauce and blue cheese crumble (excellent) and lastly we had some deviled eggs (horrible no flavor no seasoning no spice nothing) would never order that again. Servers were great very attentive!!! We sat outside in the patio area it started to rain but the umbrellas kept us dry. For dessert we had a peach crisp and a classic bread pudding both very good!! I grew up on steaks that were marked down because they're about to turn. As a result, I have a stomach of steel and a sensitive nose to anything nearing nostalgia. If I can't keep this meal down, I'm dropping another star off the rating. A piping hot "split level": cream of crab soup ladled over Maryland crab soup, with a rounded spoon and a single package of saltines. Why there was some shredded turf meat mixed in, I'll never know. Lump crab meat was nice. Three fragments of shrimp shell found in one cup. While I'm all about eating fried shell, I consider it a faux pas when you can't strain your soup stock properly. Toast options are white, wheat, or rye. "Sausage links" turned out to be a sausage patty. Filet Benedict was a hot mess. Eggs themselves were overdone; one was cooked solid, and one was only half-runny. The English muffin was only toasted on the open face and had that unpleasant texture of having sat in a refrigerated bag with condensation. Slice of Gruyere was fine. Ultimate fried potatoes were fried hard with diced peppers without being burnt, giving an exterior crunch that was a pleasant surprise. The 3 oz filets were cooked perfectly medium rare, but tasted faintly rancid. My hollandaise sauce was quickly tainted by contact with the meat, driving bile up my esophagus. I tasted fresh sauce from one of my companion's classic eggs Benedict and it was much less offensive. I didn't come anywhere close to finishing my plate, that's how quickly my body rebelled. Bathrooms were unisex and single occupancy. The one I went into had two nonfunctional locks (toilet is nested within a stall), empty seat liner dispenser, and a paper towel dispenser with a broken spring so you had to crank it in both directions. While bathrooms don't factor into my ratings, their luxury items were the feminine product machine, the diaper-changing station, and the motion-activated faucets. Large percentage of their customer base are the local geriatrics. Service was fine. Clearly I should've tried the strawberry margarita pancakes or the creme brulee French toast instead. read more

While sitting at the bar with my husband we watched the blond short haired bartender pick up a block of ice with her BAREHAND and drop it into the glass. I was politely vocal that I witnessed the incident in front of our server and no response. We love coming to Michael's because of the location, food, and atmosphere. Stopped here today to get a Greek salad. Service was great salad not so great. There was barely any feta cheese at all (next to nothing) on my salad and very few tomatoes and only a couple Kalamata olives. I feel like I paid for a giant plate of lettuce I did order some blackened salmon on top and that was delicious and perfectly cooked. Paid $33 not including tip in retrospect, next time, I will just go to the Big Greek café in Cockeysville and get the Greek salad with grilled salmon for $18.50 read more

I've heard a lot about this restaurant so we decided to try it out; it's very beautiful inside and the customer service is superb! We really enjoyed the crab dip, however our crabcakes had way too many shells in them to the point where it wasn't enjoyable to eat. My mother raved the peach cobbler was also amazing! read more

Recently and unfortunately, this establishment has became extremely racist. Never have I experienced such unfair treatment as a patron. If you are a person of color, avoid this place at all costs. As soon as I sat at the bar, the bartender acknowledged that I sat down but never came over to ask what I wanted to drink. Several other patrons came after me, and were greeted with good service. After my food order was incorrect, after witnessing the bartender write it down, he never came back to check to see if our food came out okay or if we needed anything. NOT once. He never asked if we wanted anything else to drink or eat. I had to flag someone else down to ask for water. Oddly, everyone else around us, who were white, were being waited on. I also witnessed a black woman approach the bar, never got waited on, and left. When I worked in Timonium, I frequently this location with my collages and had no issues. It's sad that as a woman of color, I was completely disregarded as a paying customer. I plan to report this location to the news. read more

Food here is still wonderful, wine list still excellent, Duckhorn cab almost as good as good the Silver Oak they have had for years. Service on this Friday night was so slow, this place was slammed, but worth the wait. For these prices, over $100 per person with drinks, service should have been increased, but crab and steak still 5 star as was everything ordered tonight. Lamb rack special tonight was outstanding. Mary was such a great waitress with all the stress, she is 5 stars too. Back again for the umpteenth time, this restaurant gets better and better every time. Service has got so much better over the years also. Tonight Bailey was awesome, last night Joe put up with with our shit, and didn't ask us to leave even after our political conversation caused caused the adjoining table to ask us to quiet. Wine prices are so reasonable, Caymus is $10 over retail and the reserve only $25 over retail. Crab cakes best in Baltimore, even the locals come here just for them in a city known for crab. The oysters (of several varieties) are so well shucked, out of 2-3 dozen last 2 nights, not a bit of shell, it's an art mastered here. Steaks always excellent, filet served rare and Pittsburgh was perfect. I've sent one steak back in last 6-8 years and they made it right, no questions, just a new meal. I eat at Michael's cafe all the time, and the food is outstanding. As far as my ordering carry out, and picking it up, that's a different story. I have called the past few times, and spoke to a hostess , that immediately wants to transfer you to the bar, because they do not want to be bothered, but the bar never picks up, and ordering from where the hostess stands, is very convenient, because when you go in to pick it up , it's right when you walk in the restaurant, and it's quick . The past couple of times, I have ordered and went in to pick it up, I always ask them , before I Pick it up, to please check my order to make sure that everything is in there , that I ordered. The past 2 times , I have gone in, I ask if they checked my order, they say yes, and I get home, and some things are not in my bag that I ordered, in which they told me they checked it. I called both times, to complain about the hostess ,I was dealing with told me she checked my order, but she did not, and half of my dinner for my husband and myself , was not bagged , and still sitting in the back, but it was an oversight. That was totally unexceptable, because the hostess , did not tell the truth. I ask to speak to a manager, and on both occasions, I had the pleasure of dealing with the manager on that evening, and his name was Chad. He was the nicest guy you would ever want to speak to. He put me on hold both times, checked out my story, and was so overly apologetic , but really felt bad. It was very refreshing to see that someone was so genuine, that you could hear how bad he felt , that the hostess did not tell the truth. Of course he offered me to come back and pick it up: but that was not happening. He felt so bad , and gave me a credit , both times, plus for my inconvience: he had sad, come in to dine In, and ask for him, and he would be overly joyed to take care of us. His customer accomadating skills were over the charts. He felt so bad that I had such a bad experience: with my orders , he just kept going on that he really wanted to please the customers that dine in or out of the restaurant, because that should not of happened, and he did not want Michael's , to have anything negative to say about his restaurant. I have to be honest, this has happened to me before in other restaurants, and they don't care, their sorry,etc, I actually was really taken back, how he did not want to see anyone be unhappy with any service at his restaurant. I could not believe how over and above he went to the trouble to please me, so we would come back again. My husband, and I go out a lot, and eat there, and IM sure he has seen us there, but it has been so cold out, that we just prefer to carry in. Once again, now this was the 3rd time I placed an order, and spoke to hostess , and ask her to please check my order, before I pick it up, to make sure everything was in the bag , I ordered, I get there, just so happened last time I ordered ,it was the same hostess , that told me she went thru, and checked my order and everything was there.The only difference was when she told me she checked it: I was not waiting to get home to find out. I went over to an empty table : actually it was right behind her, so she could see me take everything out of the bag. You could tell, by the way she was looking at me go thru the bag: I would find out she lied , and said she went thru to check my order, but she got caught with her pants down so to speak, You had to be there to see the look on her face. You could tell she wanted to hide, and if looks could kill, you know the rest of the story. I ask to speak to the manager on that evening: and it just so happened it was Chad. I was so excited to finally meet him. For as accomadating, and so eager to please over the phone, he felt so bad, it was like he rolled out the red carpet for me. He could not believe that same hostess did it again, if it was not for him, I can honestly tell you when they say 3 strikes your out, that was the last time Michael's cafe was ever going to see me again. HE was so anxious to bend over backwards, because he takes such an interest in the restaurant: he did not want Michael's to have anything bad about the restaurant. I have never seen anything like it, nor met any manager that took that much of an interest in pleasing Michael's customers, The way he went so far out of his way to please me, you would of thought he was the owner of the restaurant. YES, he took very good care of me for my inconvience, and was extremely diplomatic, did not say a word to the hostess , and I'm sure she heard plenty, but waited until I WAS gone. You do not see or meet any manager who not only takes that much of an interest in pleasing the restaurants customers, but you can tell he is a genuine guy, and as honest as the day is long, and so so nice. I enjoyed it but nothing mind blowing. Filet mignon was tasty,. Sides were room temp. They mentioned they had broccolini but then they served regular broccoli. Mashed potatoes were ok. The moscow mule was really good with a piece of candied ginger. Service was so-so. Ambiance was nice; it seemed more like a restaurant not a cafe. GF options need to be more clearly marked. This is just based on their Brunch which is not as big in Baltimore as in NYC. Plenty of good diners but upscale breakfast served with alcohol is not as common. This is outside the city but planned to go shopping at nearby places. I liked look as place inside had high ceilings and a seafood restaurant meets industrial look. Also though on main shopping fair had a walled in al fresco dining area. One comes for the food and the banana foster French toast and crab Benedict were both excellent. Crab was plentiful and good quality which is to be expected in Baltimore. Service was also great. we had bug problem which happens in the summer Especially when so much sugar around and waitress sprayed a cloth with insect repellant and wiped down some chairs which helped. Unlimited mimosa can also be added to brunch. I got Bloody Mary which was okay and really only item that was not five star. Came back for dinner and sat at bar. Great service and food to match. I called one of the owners, Steve Dellis because I had some concerns. The first thing he asked me was how did I get his phone number. Really? You're not royalty. He was extremely rude to me, yelled at me, and basically told me he did not have any time for me, or the conversation, and he has a newborn son he hast to tend to instead. I had a couple concerns, one with the way the manager Chad speaks to his staff in front of customers. The second one was to find out why my son who had been an employee for a year was no longer on the schedule in three weeks. Another manager looked at him and said that the new chef wanted an all Latino kitchen. When I spoke to the owner, he told me that the managers told him that my child was not performing to where they thought he should be. Mind you this is his first job. His father and I thought that this would be a great place for him to start. The place where we would go as a family and eat , the place where I would meet friends for a drink or brunch. I asked the Steve Dellis, where were the meetings and trainings to provide him with the skills to be an asset to the restaurant. his only response was, " I do not have time for this. I have an infant son." Michael's Cafe is NOT interested in it's community, nor it's neighborhood and families around it. It is obvious that they want a certain kitchen, and my son is no longer wanted because he is not Latino. read more

I am eaten here dozens of times at all times of the day. The service, food, beverages, and atmosphere are always top notch. The restaurant and the bathrooms are clean, and I have never had any issues, and when I do, the management team always goes above and beyond to address them. My only advice is to avoid the restaurant during lunch during the week. Twice I have made reservations with Janet, and twice she promised me a table or booth in the dining room, but both times she seated me in the bar, even when I pointed out she had assured me of the prior, and the restaurant was empty. On another occasion, I informed her of my daughter's birthday, and my server was definitely not notified. Luckily, I have always received great service and food, otherwise Janet would be enough reason to never return. read more

This was our first visit to this restaurant. Love the decor. I think our waitress was new. She kept forgetting things. Water, plates.... So to the food , the fried green tomatoes were very good , but we paid extra for the crab on top.. it was a couple little pieces of crab , not worth the extra money . Coconut shrimp , a little flat and the the sauce that went with it was like vinegar . It was thin and actually made me cough , the vinegar was way too Strong.. our burgers were normal , nothing special . The fries were very thin , cold , and too much salt on them . We asked for gravy for the fries. It came out after we were almost done . But you couldn't eat it anyway. It was cold, thick and had no taste. It was basically flour and water, yuck!!
