We recently had Michael's Carpets install luxury vinyl flooring and carpeting on two floors of our 3 story home. From the moment we entered the store and met Michael until the installation was complete we were treated professionally and with a level of competence that we have rarely experienced in the home improvement sector. We had already gotten an estimate from Home Depot who told us that we would have to remove our pet stained carpet ourselves. Not only did Michael reassure us that his installers would remove the old carpeting and haul it away, but his estimate came in lower than Home Depot for a far higher quality (Cali Bamboo] product with a mil rating twice as high as Home Depot's. The selection of flooring and carpeting was extensive and when we walked out of the store we were confident that we had made the right choice. The installation went very smoothly. In fact the installers brought to our attention that we had a broken toilet and installed a new one for us! All in all we could not be happier with the entire experience, the quality of the flooring and installation and the professionalism of Michael and his employees. We had Michael's carpet install luxury vinyl tile, tall baseboards and carpet. Their price was very reasonable and the workmanship was superb. Even though we are about 30 miles away from the store, Michael's still came out for a free estimate and fixing some minor flaws after the installation. The estimate was accurate. I had other estimates submitted with higher square footage which makes the bid larger. When I visited the store, the employees are very helpful in helping with selecting carpet. Another plus, Michael's lets you talk home large samples. In addition, Michael's orders your own samples from the manufactures and has the samples delivered directly to your home. The installation employees are very nice and detailed. In the kitchen, the quarter round molding matches my cabinets which is a very old color from 20 years ago. For demo of my tile floor, the employees taped everything off to minimize dust traveling through the house. In addition, the flooring employees prepped all my furniture with hard floor pads. The carpet seams are great and we cannot tell where they are. I had some really heavy furniture and the employees were patient in placing the furniture back with a level and measuring tape. Lastly, the customer service is excellent. All my emails were answered within a couple of hours. Michael's is also available by phone and all personal was pleasant to talk to. read more

I have a bad experience with the idea of stopping in for the first time and looking a commercial carpet with them. Run from this store! I needed the carpet in several weeks from the time I ordered the carpet and I was told, "It has to come from Georgia, so it takes a couple weeks to get it." So, I was easy to order a carpet I liked and that did not change. The thickness of the carpet was never discussed (and a thicker carpet would have been better), but was never shown it to decide. And I like the color, but was not given the opportunity to decide on different pad, weight, thickness for the carpet. I paid for it and expected it in a couple weeks.... per their statement. They called me two days later and told me, "That is in a ready for Pickup", I had not paid for and committed for installation, as I wanted to get it ordered if it takes weeks. I believed of course that this topic of having them install it, could be worked out later. Oh no, Its a new price from what it would have been if I had paid for that at the time of paying for the carpet. Immediately would be fine if you have somewhere to store it as I needed to get the room ready, or the health! Then pressured to pick it up in a hurry. If I don't pick it up in two weeks, "They would ship it back to Georgia..." BS I had coincidentally got very sick during that time of paying for it and them, wanting me to pick it up. They have given me a rude attitude to discuss the install, with new numbers that do not make sense. After 3 calls of being short and rude with me, I am writing this review. I have tried to make sense of their addition, with no good response. The receipt does not break out the different costs or numbers in the price I paid. Ex; Carpet, recycling fee, Tax, or and the glue that was never discussed with the price quoted in approximation of "Carpet and Installation". I have tried to get the numbers straight 3 times and they are quite rude to discuss the numbers being broken down, or understand with my illness. I am still quite sick and they are just rude and short to attempt to get a straight price from them! Yes, I needed to get a pen and paper, plus a calculator as I am quite ill and I am fairly much limited in movement, due to being a bit disabled, plus quite sick on top of that. Still... Its time to get the State Board of Equalization involved with the "No evidence of Taxes Collected issue..." Oh, all the stories of shipping times from Georgia and shipping it back, were BS. They get a Zero with me and now I am calling the credit card company to Dispute the charges as It was All handled the wrong way... No accountability and Rude. Beyond Rude! with me asking to get the numbers straight.... And, The Receipt is pretty much not readable as it is the carbon copy and nothing is broken down, nothing to be explained. It's a New Price for installation, higher than quoted.... Not happy or workable to do business with! Oh, one thing I was concerned when paying for it was the thickness of the carpet, but now it is cut and the thinner one, is waiting.... Not Good! And, they cannot give me the phone number to pick it up. The address is not Legible. Then, luckily I called the Manufacturer in Georgia to get the phone number and address, as they close at 3PM. How fun to get a guy to pick it up and getting there during normal business hours... I would not be able to pick it up. No Phone number, unreadable address, no warning of the hours to pick it up.... They were quick to respond and allowed us to take as many samples home to compare as we needed. Sometimes it's the little things that add up. They offered competitive rates and had the carpet we selected in stock. Within a week, we were setup with an appointment. They arrived exactly on time for the appointment and the installation included 3 carpet installers. They were professional and seemed to know what they were doing. They completed the job earlier than estimated and left us with a bit of leftover carpet. I would HIGHLY recommend these guys for carpet or flooring. I recently used Michaels for my stairs, hallway, master bedroom, and master bathroom. I asked for recommendations from friends and neighbors but no one I asked were pleased with the flooring companies they used. So I used Yelp and saw the 5 star rating. Also they are close to home. They installed laminate in the office and broke one leg of our desk and never bothered to tell us. I discovered it when I was lying under the broken desk to setup our PC. The desk was balancing on 3 legs. They must have just dragged the desk instead of lifting it. It was impossible to repair ourselves so we purchased a new desk. The next week they installed our carpet. I was not happy with the padding. Our previous cheap Home Depot carpet had thicker padding! I am not an expert in flooring by any means but I was never asked what type of padding I wanted. We can feel the wood. When walking on the stairs we felt staples. They did come out again after I called and hammered down the staples. I showed them the picture of the broken desk but nothing was ever done about it. And we are stuck with the thin padding. I also wasn't pleased with their cleanup after the job was done. But I went ahead and sweeped it up myself. Also when removing the toilet to replace some vinyl flooring a hose began to leak. They did point that out to me and I went to Home Depot to replace so glad they pointed that out. read more

I was desperate to find a decent carpet company to do repair work on a portion of my living room carpet one of my cats ruined. Thank goodness we still had a decent size remnant since the carpet is only five years old. I repeatedly called the company who installed it without a return call (they are a large vendor in Fountain Valley/Huntington Beach). As I have done many times before, I went to Yelp and found Michael and his carpet company. He took a lot of time on the phone with me and actually told me, step-by-step, how to pull back the carpet and pretreat the sub-floor before his guys came out. OK, just another 5 Star rating for Michael's Carpet, right. Wrong! Check this out. Michael's installed our super plush carpet in March of 2013. Seam starts showing in February of 2014. Sends out technician to inspect / repair seam. Technician says the carpet is "corn rowing" (showing excessive wear) and shouldn't be, after installed less than a year. Michael's helps us file a claim with Shaw carpet, and within a month, we had brand new carpet installed in our house. The dude (Michael) is nuts about customer service and was so cool to my wife when she went in to pick out the new carpet. Stuff happens, so when things do, it's the really good companies that stand by their product and service. Forget about Home Depot, Lowes, Empire, blah, blah, blah! Excellent prices, excellent service. I requested a quote using Yelp. They got back to me within a few hours. I decided to go in and look at their stock. Extremely helpful even though it was busy. I didn't expect it, but I showed them the other colors in the house and they gave a good tip of a color scheme for the carpet and it matches GREAT. They were able to come measure and install under two weeks which is much faster than I expected and WAY faster than the big retailers. I write here "under two weeks" because I can't remember exactly how long, but I think it *might* have been as quick as a week give or take a day or so. It does depend on availability but I was thrilled to get my carpets in the time frame I did. I like the all inclusive pricing so you know what you are getting and can weigh options without your head hurting from making the calculations. Michael's Carpets was recommended by a neighbor after hearing that we had been to Home Depot looking at their carpets and planning to recarpet our condo. We had a pretty good idea of what color we were looking for and Michael was able to find us much better quality carpet than was offered at Home Depot. Placed the order, Michael came and measured, picked the day...all set. We (mostly my husband) was very conscientious about packing and preparing for the actual installation. Called Michael's a couple of times with questions, always answered without a problem. The installation day was amazing! 3 installers, who appeared to have worked together for a while, knew exactly what to do. Each had their own tasks and they seamlessly moved and worked in a dance of old and new carpets and pads. Start time was 9:20am and done, cleaned up and gone by 2:30pm. Oscar was foreman, awesome how carefully he measured and planned and cut so that their was little or no waste. He told me he had been laying carpets for 16 1/2 years, and those years had all been with Michael's. He said Michael was a good boss. That says a great deal about the skill level and the company. If you're like me, hardsell tactics just make you run in the other direction. I refuse to do business with people who can't deal with me squarely. When I started shopping last month for carpeting (firsttimer), I had no idea what a pain it could be. 3 places tried that shady little trick where they would quote me an estimate and then pull an unadvertised sale out of thin air (no signs in the store either) so that I would be pressured to hurry and commit before the "special" discount ended in just a day or two. Of course my BS meter was going berserk. Finally, the dim bulb in my brain went off and I looked to Yelp for a recommendation. A five-star average from 18 reviews had to be good, right? Once more into the breach. Michael's is a breath of fresh air in the flooring business! The sales guy just listened to my details and steered me toward a good-quality nylon texture for the living room and bedroom that see a lot of traffic from kids and pets. The price was about 100 dollars lower than what Home Depot quoted, and for a superior fiber at that. Everything was included in the per/yard price, no hidden fees for moving furniture and so forth. Lifetime guarantee against staining--they will come out and clean the stain or replace the carpet if it doesn't come out! It was such a relief to finally deal with somebody straightforward that I just about collapsed. A guy came out to measure the same day, and we scheduled the installation for the following week. It could have been sooner but I needed an extra few days to finish painting the bedroom. The installers showed up on time, worked efficiently, and completed the job in about 3 hours. They were polite and neat; I was happy to see that they cleaned up after themselves with brooms and vaccuums. The living room and bed room look spectacular now with their new carpets. Really, you should have such delicious carpet in every room; when you walk around barefoot, it feels like you're walking on the downy backs of angels. Met in store with Michael and picked out some great wood flooring. He is very nice and easy going. When we received the quote in person, it came out to 50% higher than the rough estimate given before. To be exact, we were given the rough estimate of 12$ per sq ft including general removal, install, tax etc. essentially this was given to us as an all-in guidance. After the visit to our house, the estimate was much higher- 50% higher. I understand that situations can vary- but the explanation after was that tax, plus removal of old flooring etc was why the difference in price, which is the exact thing we asked about giving guidance in store. Also, a 50% variance is quite crazy expectation change. Needless to say we're going to go with other options. Make sure you get a really good idea of what is covered when trying to understand cost early on in the process! NOTE: I spoke with Austin, which was nice for him to call and discuss the situation. I like to support local small businesses and these guys prove in every way that they are better than the big franchise competitors. Despite our coming in late to the store on a Friday, they stayed late and even came to our home after they closed to measure our floors. They were extremely honest and informed - understood what we wanted and were up front about carpeting options. I really liked that they were never pushy and never tried to steer us into more expensive materials we didn't want or need. They let us take their only sample boards home and drop them off at the door before they opened when we couldn't come any other time because we were both working. They were very flexible and accommodating with installation. When it came time to look for carpet in our renovation project I checked Yelp for good local places to check out. Michael's came up up at the top of the list and after having our stairs done I can see why. First of all, Michael was very helpful and patient with us in selecting the runner to use. My wife and I had a specific vision of what we wanted and it took a while--and many samples--to arrive at the best carpet to achieve that. Ultimately, we selected one that wasn't in the store, but was from one of his suppliers. Installation went very well. The crew foreman checked with me every step of the way to make sure I was happy with where they were up to that point. Almost to overkill, but it's better to ask, especially with a finicky install like a stair runner. The final outcome is spectacular and meets the vision we had to start with. I have been a client since I relocated to HB 30 years ago. Michael's Carpet installed in my home, my rentals, and my stores. When I bought this home in 2012 I wanted some of the "Magic my former home had so I started with remodel which was quite extensive. The only way to complete my home was hardwood floors, the only place to get the job well done of course was Michael's. All the walls are bullnosed, and the details in the finish are painstaking and were done to perfection. I must say that after a tad more than 5 years of family and daily traffic my floors look as good as the day they were installed. I just cleaned them today with recommended hardwood floor cleaner and had to show them off.
