This is one of the smallest Michaels in the area. Selection can be limited, but then they sometimes have things like seasonal items still in stock that a busier store wouldn't have. I placed an online order for work. I was notified a few hours later that it was ready. I went to the store to pick it up the next morning on my way to the office. The pickup is right next to the registers, and an employee helped me find my order because it wasn't obvious where it was. Fairly simple process for the online ordering, and I used a coupon too. Our local Michael's has seen better days. Although a large retail chain, there is not too many customers that will frequent this location. The company app offers many features, of which the discount coupons are very affordable. The store is clean, bright and organized. There are many shelves that are empty or very limited. Staff are friendly, but, need more training on how to do a basic exchange. I encountered a fairly new employee who was not familiar with returns/exchanges that I was inconvenienced with an issue that caused me to lose the discount that I had with the original transaction. Since she was young, I would encourage further training to alleviate the situation that I experienced. Lots of parking. read more

My 9 year old daughter and I visited this location for some craft supplies for a couple of projects we were working on. While we were at the checkout, my daughter saw the grab bags which included a free pillow. She had her eye on an adorable cowgirl pillow that matched her boots. Well there were no more grab bags to redeem the deal but the cashier had observed my daughter looking at the pillow and got special permission for us to buy it for a dollar. What a thoughtful employee! She made my daughter's day! First, the store was a mess. Major cleanup is needed. There was a long line of customers and only one person was behind a cash register. Clearly they are trying to force us into self service which, sometimes, is not wanted. There were several staff at the front and all were focused on blowing up balloons instead of helping clear the line. This was a very disappointing visit. read more

I ordered online pickup from the Escondido location because their website said that they had 5 in stock I drove 30 minutes from vista just for my order to be cancelled apparently they did not have my product that the website said they had 5 of. Employees were great management or who ever is in charge of updating there online inventory needs to get it together wasted my gas and time. read more

So we went to Michael's to get some glue sticks. Pretty easy right? So first I had to use the bathroom having, but the bathroom was closed. Not like just secured by a code, but a sign basically said "nah, the bathroom isn't open to you so f.. off". I had to find a dude to open it and he was cool so he hooked me up. Then bro it took literally 10 minutes to check out. I only had my phone with me and it wouldn't accept my Venmo or any other thing on my phone so I had to take my behind back to the car to grab my wallet and get my credit card. It's Michael's. They have everything every other Michael's has. I like the lay out of this location, as it's pretty easy to find everything I want in a timely manner. I've never had to ask anyone on the floor staff for help, so I'm not sure how helpful they are, but the check out line (even when long) runs smoothly and fairly fast. The cash register staff members are always very friendly and efficient. Be warned though, they are located in a high homeless area and seem to have had problems with this in the past, as they keep their restrooms locked. You have to ask a staff member to come key in a code to open the doors, and if they're busy this could take a couple of minutes. So if you need to pee or have little ones that just can't "hold it" I'd recommend hitting the toilets at Barnes and Noble next door before entering Michael's. And one quick tip: sign up for their email list. I get a 40-50% off one item coupon almost daily. This alone has saved me a ton of money shopping here or at any other Michael's. This review is for ***Colette*** at the custom framing department! =) I brought in my brother-in-law's military portrait and metal emblem to frame together. I knew I'd need a custom matte and spacers to allow space behind the glass for the emblem. However, I was trying to keep the cost of the project to a minimum so I was hoping to use a ready-made frame off the shelf. After considering a few sizes and colors I wasn't satisfied with the proportions and colors considering the unique sizes, shapes, and measurements of my items. I was stuck. There wasn't anyone waiting at the frame design counter on the floor because the framers were in the frame room putting customer orders together. This is normal and has never been a problem because there is a button customers can push to signal to the framers that someone at the counter needs assistance. I pressed it. Colette promptly popped out from the back and kindly offered to assist me. I explained my conundrum and described what I was attempting to accomplish. She went over a few options that might satisfy my original idea. But guess what, the custom frame was the best choice. Colette definitely knows what she's doing and truly cares about the customer experience and project results. She demonstrated great knowledge of aesthetics (proportions, colors, etc), the work and materials needed to achieve the desired outcome, and a sincere interest in satisfying the customer needs. When a customer comes in with an item (photo, piece of art, document, garment, etc) that they would like framed, the item is almost always one or more of the following: -Of substantial sentimental value to the customer -A family heirloom to be preserved for future generations -Of substantial monetary value -A gift for someone special to the customer -Super duper cool and is going to look great on the customer's wall at home or work Therefore, it means a lot to the customer that the framer bring care and expertise to the table every time. Colette met and exceeded my expectations in every aspect. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how my order comes out. This is my local michael's. I came in at night and surprised that nobody was available to help. We asked the lady for help and she could only tell us where to look. She had to stay in the front. I asked her and she was like you are right there is nobody on the floor. With the size of this shop there needs to be someone helping her with customers coming in. She can't be the only one that can help direct clients and help clients check out at the register. No wonder it is bad at customer service. I tried applying here one time and no response. Looks like they only can afford to pay for one person on the floor. read more

Feces Feces everywhere, but not a pot to pee. This Michaels has ALWAYS had filthy restrooms. It's not unusual to see trash, feces scared toilets, and everything from the floors, walls, and sinks to be covered in brown grime. You guessed it, no ass-gaskets either. The most unsettling part is that the maintenance sheet always has signatures that it has been checked several times a day.. This was brought to the attention of management but nothing was ever done... Until today. I had to take my child ( that is potty training) to the restroom.. To my surprise, and frustration, the bathroom doors now have security locks preventing entry. Grrr... Back to the front of the store. The cashier who could care less about the bathroom being locked, passive aggressively took her time calling over the P.A. system "Code 13". She then instructed to wait by the bathroom. Waiting...After five minutes, I want back up front and said that nobody came and that I have a kid that needs to go. Without a care, she again slowly calls a "code 13". No way was I going to play this game, I demanded to speak with the store manager. DING! With the threat of management being requested, the young women finally did something and called the frame center directly and found some person to punch in the key code for the door. The bathroom was cleaner than before, but this is total bullsh*t to make the customer go though hoops just to use the bathroom. At lest Starbucks uses a token to gain entry in bad neighborhoods. Now I have to research business plumbing codes to see if it's legal for large stores to prohibit customers free access to the restrooms. read more

Came here to buy a shadow box to make a gift. I was definitely on a budget but wanted something at a good price. Staff was friendly and informed me on a sale they just so happened to be having for shadow boxes. Half off. Uh duh! I'm sold. 50% anything and I'm in. Ended up making the best shadow box human eyes can ever lay upon. I'd show but it's pretty personal. Sorry. But this place is good. One stars for this specific item only. ( customer service is usually great here so no complaints there) anyways, I am so disappointed when I opened my circut mug press that my husband bought me earlier. As I opened it it seems like it was previously used! There's a piece of the little green foam missing as if it was picked on and the e exterior of the green lining looks a tad bit dirty. The metal circle on the bottom where you place the mug also looks like it's been used. I would expect a brand new spanking machine if I paid the full price... Not to mention these things are not cheap! My computer also mentioned something about it being connected to something else already? Maybe a previous owner? I don't know.. but I did have trouble connecting it with my laptop. When I went there someone had returned their mug press too due to it not working so not sure if maybe these get sealed up and put back on the shelf. read more

I used to get art framed at a shop that only did framing, but Michael's had a great sale on custom framing and I wanted to get a lot framed so I took my art to them. I am so much happier than I was with the other company!!! Andrea, Colette and John (I kept going back to get more art framed) were beyond helpful in helping me pick out frames and mat that I loved and today I picked up my first batch and they look BEAUTIFUL!! so much nicer than I had expected. My taste in art is anything but common, but look at these amazing framing jobs I can't thank them enough for making me love my art even more than I already did! I shop at this Michael's pretty regularly. It's not that it's the best store in the world, but they do often have what i want, although the regular prices are pretty high. Luckily, they do have some decent clearance prices and sales. This week, I went in looking for some small ostrich feathers. They only have LARGE ones. I was bummed. I checked the craft aisle that has feathers on it and they had just plain feathers, you know like from a crow or something. haha. I grabbed some of those and on my way to the register noticed a clearance rack of feathered wedding decor. HOORAY. 70% off of small ostrich type feathers and other white feathered items. I stocked up. SO, this was a good experience. Sometimes I walk in and find exactly what I want. Other times, forget it. I never interact with sales people, because they usually aren't out on the floor and I've never been approached by anyone to offer assistance, but I've tracked people down in the past when I had a question. But, the one disaster is checking out... always long lines. I do applaud them for finally making a bankers line. That makes me so very happy, that I forgive the wait a little bit knowing that someone isn't going to cut in front of me. Overall, I like Michael's and this one is so close to home, they get a bit of business from me. I'll be back. read more

Kristin, the general manager of Michael's in Escondido is top notch! She provides awesome customer service. Thank you for turning around a trip back to your store because some of what I purchased was not put into my bag for whatever reason (not sure if it fell out?). When I called, the cashier acknowledged that yes, it was there and Kristin gave me an extra discount to "make up for my gas" that made me not resent having another errand added to my list (nobody's fault, of course, but still...had to return). It was so appreciated. Way to make a customer feel heard, valued, and wanting to keep returning to support you guys there. I stopped in to check out the bridal accessories. There are a few girls getting married this year, and as MOH (maid of honor) of one of the weddings, I decided to see what was available. When I was planning my sister in laws wedding last year, I purchased everything at Party City. Needless to say, I spent waaaay to much. Surprisingly, I did find some cute stuff that our party will be purchasing for the bach parties. I wouldn't have expected to find comparable stuff at a crafts store. Employees of this location are unapologetically obnoxious, lazy and untrained. Do yourself a favor and don't do curbside pick-up. It will be an excersize in much wasted time and you'll still be forced to go inside to get your stuff. In addition, don't fall for ringing the bell for help, you'll be waiting another 25 minutes. They don't care if you wait, complain politely, plead.....nothing fazes them. I'll go to Hobby Lobby or DickBlick. Both cheaper, better stocked and kinder. read more

I've been a loyal Michael's shopper for years. Actually even at this location as it is closest to my home. This is my first yelp review and unfortunately it is to share how horrible the customer service at this store is. Countless times I've asked for help and the associates act inconvenienced by my need for help. Today I wanted to have something framed and there were 2 associates at the framing counter who were more interested in their personal conversation than my framing selection. I asked about a framing coupon too and was told those are only sent to their framing customers. I guess buying Aaron Brothers releases Michaels from any competitive pricing. I do shop at Hobby Lobby more often due to the years of poor customer service I've received at Michaels and would have shopped there today had they not been closed on Sunday's.
