The manager's handling of this situation says everything about their customer service.
    Bernie E.

Banned from Buying After Their Own Product Broke in 18 Days Bought a sewing machine for my elderly mom--when it broke after 18 days, the manager refused to help and told us to shop elsewhere. It'll be a very long time before I ever set foot in another Michael's--especially the one in Glendale, CA. Let's face it: good customer service is rare these days. I read plenty of negative reviews about this store's self-checkout mess and lack of help before writing this. My main issue, though, is poor management. I recently bought a sewing machine for my elderly mother, a lifelong seamstress who just needed a reliable, basic model. The sewing section was literally a wall of product cards--no demos, no displays, and no one available to explain anything. You grab a ticket and bring it to the register, but a ticket doesn't mean it's in stock. Behind the self-checkout counter sat a random stack of damaged boxes. The kind attendant confirmed our chosen model was out of stock, so we settled for a smaller Singer and took it home. It turned out to be tiny--almost toy-like. So we returned it (receipt in hand) to exchange for a larger, pricier one. Enter "Manager" Nagila. She curtly told me that Michael's "does not allow sewing machine returns if you simply don't like it." She called it "store policy" but couldn't explain why. Whether that rule truly exists or not, her attitude was cold and dismissive. I explained we weren't returning it out of preference--we just wanted to upgrade to a better, more expensive machine. Only then did she reluctantly process the return, warning she'd "allow it this one time" but "not again." It felt less like customer service and more like being scolded for trying to do business there. Fast-forward 18 days: my mom's mid-project when the new machine fails completely--error codes C4 (bobbin issue) and E6 (motor failure). We went back, receipt in hand. Nagila immediately refused to help, wouldn't even inspect the machine, and told us to "just go somewhere else." She processed a refund and said we were no longer allowed to purchase sewing machines at that store. When I asked her name, she mumbled it under her mask and snapped, "I don't have to give you my name!" before storming off. One of the regular employees--the same kind woman who helped us before--apologized and admitted her manager was in the wrong. Michael's Corporate: This is how you lose loyal customers. Managers like Nagila are running your stores into the ground.

I had my favorite piece of art framed. From start to finish, the process at Michael's of Glendale could not have been better. When placing my order, Maritza showed me the options, and provided me the guidance I was looking for, from frame color and style to the matting options. Alan put it together so nicely. I love my art and can't wait to display it. This is our second order placed, and I highly recommend their team.

Mask wearing was not enforced, too short-staffed, too many people in line, and a poorly-laid out line system. Not COVID-safe.

We walked every aisle; they have good products on display. I picked up a sturdy, colorful medicine container and my friend found an umbrella, ramekins, salt and pepper jars at an affordable price. I saw some good silver wares that I am planning to come back to buy (if they will still be there). The aisles are pretty neat, shelves are stocked, and employees are welcoming. Parking is plenty and free. Only thing to note: I didn't see a public restroom though. It was a good shopping trip.

Interesting and kinda fun store…read more I wandered in here by accident. Vons next door ran out of butcher's twine and I didn't feel like driving around Glendale looking for it; the clerk at the market suggested I stop by DK. Dollar King is like a bootleg "Dollar Tree", but this place has more interesting stuff. They are a discount store that has Arts & Crafts, Party Supplies, Kitchen Accessories, Electrical Gadgets, Office Supplies and more.... I was pleasantly surprised. I personally dig the spice section. Lots of Goya and Sadaf brands spices. I walked outta here with a bunch of spices for my pantry, kids party supplies; and I did find that butcher's or kitchen twine I originally came for, lol. Cool store. I'll be back.

*** Only open on Sundays from 12 PM to 5 PM - always check the website to confirm opening hours ***…read more Yup you heard it right - Baum-kuchen is a specialty card and stationery shop that only opens its brick-and-mortar store once a week. As an online store, Baum-kuchen has been in operation for 16 years (since 2010). [Parking]: Easy and free street parking. [Selection]: Baum-kuchen sells stationery items that combine the philosophies of German Bauhaus and Japanese wabi-sabi. Visitors will find fewer cute items as most products focus on aesthetically designed stationery such as stamps, planners, pens, paper pads, pen cases, pouches, tapes, etc. The shop has few postcards and pins, but the selection is limited. There are no greeting cards. [Mailbox]: The shop also sells postage stamps so customers can purchase them on the spot and drop postcards into the mailbox right next to the cashier counter. They will add letters and postcards to their outgoing mail. [Conclusion]: Some of items at Baum-kuchen can technically be found at other stationery stores in Los Angeles, so I don't feel like this is a must-visit shop or you'll miss out. With that being said - if you are a fan of stationery stores like Paper Plant Co., Hightide Store DTLA, or Shorthand, then Baum-kuchen is certainly worth checking out. Plus it is also nice to see some of these online items in person rather than just browsing them on their website.

They're only physically open on Sundays but they answered my call on a Wednesday. Super gorgeous and organized inside. There's a lot of wandering space so you can take your time to explore and test products like pens. There's even a large table if you need to sit and relax. If you need help looking for something, don't be shy to ask. The workers are super friendly and knowledgeable. My purchase came with a free set of stickers! Super happy with this place. Will come back to support when I can. :)
