Came here to buy supplies to make a rave outfit, and from one visit I could understand why this Michaels location only has 2.5 stars rating. The store is decently large, and it took me a while to locate flower petals. At first I only found flower petals without stems, already in clear boxes. These were quite expensive, around $5-6 per small box. I asked a passing employee whether there were other flower petals and was told "No, the only ones we have are the ones you're holding." I was distraught and confused because my friend had recently visited a Michaels (different location) and said she found many flower petals that were 50% off just a couple days ago. Going through practically every aisle, I finally found a whole bunch of flowers that still had stems on them. These were EXACTLY what I was looking for! -__- I also noticed that there were several signs marked 50% off, but since all the flowers were messily placed I couldn't tell which ones were on sale. I asked yet the same associate (he happened to be close by) which ones were on sale, and he said "Very few, only the ones marked Home etcetc". However, when I checked out, ALL the flowers I chose were 50% off! WTF? Do the employees have NO effing clue what the hell they're doing here? Also, after paying I realized I forgot to use an online coupon so I went back and asked if they could do a price adjustment, to which the employee responded, "No we cannot do price adjustments. If you want to use the coupon we have to return everything and you have to re-buy them. And normally we would have to put the items back and you have to find them again." .... really?? You have to spell out for me how much you hate your job, and are unwilling to go even ONE stinking extra mile to help your customer be happy and save $10 on their $55 purchase?? Another thing -- they were very short on supplies. I was looking to buy a hot glue gun and they only had the mini at $3.99 or the large at $24.99; completely out of stock for the medium sized one for $12.99. Rhinestones were also veryyyy low on stock; most of the ones I wanted were sold out. If the story was too long for you, let me make some bullet points: PROS: - Lots of coupons you can find online - Convenient location with plenty of free parking (same plaza as Ross, TJ Maxx) CONS: - Employees who don't know crap about their job - Worst customer service ever - Low on stock for too many things - Hard to find what you need - aisles are poorly constructed (descriptions suck) My visit to this Michaels was such a waste of time. As if we're not all busy enough, a 15 minute quick shop turned into a 35 minute waste of time because the employees couldn't help me to save their lives. Seriously, go to Joann's Fabrics. Recently went into michaels to get some frames and baking supplies for a party. Was greeted and helped by Stephanie and helped by Norka in framing. She was super helpful and friendly. They both made my experience at michaels great!! Norka was very knowledgeable about frames, I came in with a budget around 150 to buy a frame and ended up ordering a custom frame. Norka was very patience and made it super fun!! Cant wait to get my frame. I will for sure be coming back! read more

It's a shame that every time I need something random and crafty I have to go to Michaels. I called ahead to ask about heart-shaped boxes, that I needed a larger one. After a lengthy time spent on hold, I was told that the only boxes they had were tiny ones. After finding out that heart-shaped boxes were going to be virtually impossible to find without it being shipped, I decided to settle for a cylindrical box. In my quest for the right box I reluctantly ended up at Michaels...and literally walked 50 feet to one of the crafty aisles and found MANY medium sized heart-shaped containers. Bright pink and red. It would be a shame for me to give one star on that experience alone, but it's happened to me with other items. I can't just call and save myself some time. It doesn't work that way in the time-warp that is Michaels. I had someone call around to other stores for specific gift bags and was told that NO one had them. I walked in to another location that same day and found plenty of them. That and the line is always a million miles long. When I was there, an associate was apologizing, that they get busy around the time I was there, but that this was especially busy. I must be there on all the especially busy days. read more

I come here all the time. It's near my house and it carries all sorts of items I find myself needing for various work, school, and personal projects. If I were rating them based solely on the merchandise I'd give 4 stars but I'm not. (Some of my favorite items to purchase BTW are photo albums and scrapbooks, baking items such as decorating sugar crystals, cupcake liners, fondant, etc., and all sorts of other random items I find myself needing... most recently a cowbell) The problem is not the merchandise. The problem is that the employees in general seem annoyed when you ask for help, the lines get out of control and they rarely have enough staff working (maybe this is why they are so disgruntled,) the layout seems to change often so just when I get used to finding a certain item in a certain aisle the next time I try to find it that aisle is filed with holiday crap... and don't get me started on the messiness, wailing kids, and patrons with body odor. Pros:Good Size Store, nice variety. Cons: Too Cluttered for me, could not find any help. My daughter (11yrs) had a really cool craft idea that required a nice selection of paint and some wood glue. We took a trip there last Saturday and were pleased by the options we had to bring her idea to life. The store is large and it's wide selection was a creative mind's heaven! The downside was it was so much stuff in a small space that it felt too crowded, almost like the merchandise were going to swallow you. Also, when looking for some type of assistance in locating items, it was almost impossible to find any employees on the floor. We were able to find everything we were looking for after about 30 extra minutes of being lost in Craft-Paradise, and the check out was pretty fast and smooth. When I finally met a employee (the register clerk during check out), she was extremely pleasant and fast. Overall, my 1st visit to this Michaels left me feeling neutral. read more

I showed up a couple weeks ago for baking supplies and found that the main decorating aisle has a few Wilton things, and then a boatload of Duff Goldman brand stuff (some of it for lazy bakers). What the hell? I thought. There were few cake pans and where was all the stuff for those of us trying to make things look professional (especially without fondant, the accouterments for which took up a lot of room. Fondant, feh!)? Today I went back and decided to look in the aisle next to Duffland (anyone else singing the "Duff beer for me..." song now?), which I thought was mostly candy-making supplies and packaging, BUT was startled to find that all the Wilton stuff that was missing was there: tons of pans in a variety of sizes (the Duff ones in the other aisle are the same thing, but cost more, and there isn't as much variety), cardboard cake rounds, everything that wasn't the usual decorating stuff, but more of the actual BAKING part. Well I'll be. Considering Wilton teaches the courses at Michaels and is the standard, I don't like that Duff is being pushed so hard, but hey, everybody loves a promotional tie-in, amIright? Also, showing up when the store opens means an experience delightfully free of other shoppers. The employees were busily Christmasing up the store (the morning after Halloween, and already the place stinks like potpourri and carols are over the speakers), I wasn't rushed through the line, and when I returned something before shopping, the cashier was quite friendly. read more

Wow, this place has some really negative reviews. Well, to each his/her own. I can't really complain all too much about this location because: 1) the parking lot is huge and I rarely have a hard time finding a spot; 2) the store itself is enormous so there are so many things to look at; 3) they are usually stocked up on all of their goodies, and they are organized in a way that it's pretty easy to find items you're looking for; 4) there are wonderful stores nearby to shop at like Nordstrom Rack, Staples, Ross, and TJ Maxx. There are some eateries around the way, too. All in all, the only reason this place doesn't get the full five-stars I would've loved to give them is because it's pretty messy. They're not the best at keeping this place tidy, and I don't understand this because there are plenty of employees there. Also, it's a hassle to have to call someone to use the restroom. I understand it's protocol because there are things people can take in there to steal the merchandise but sigh, you can't get into the restroom unless you call someone to open the door for you. They don't give out the code. Also, a lot of the items aren't always in the best condition. I find myself sifting through to find something that isn't bent, dusty, or wrinkled. Bleh. Otherwise, their hours are pretty good, and although it's not too close from where I live (LA), I can't really complain about where it's actually located. I really wish they'd open one in mid-city LA! I really hope this store puts more of its focus on cleanliness, organization, and keeping more of its items in stock. Its employees seem a little apathetic too -- it's a crafts store for crying out loud. Can't they put on a smile? What's to be so serious about? :p I'll be there soon, Michael's! This place has some good stuff from baking and anything artsy. Normally I just go here for my art supplies because Swains is super expensive and they have such nice stuff for architectural things too. Other than that I don't have a reason to come here except... Last week I needed a cookie cutter and some other things unfortunately they don't have what I wanted. The website should offer if it is available in store too which they don't and prices. This is the website I am talking about though. I got some sugar sprinkles where I should've went somewhere because I found to be a $1.00 cheaper but whatever. They do have a certain amount of nice selections of baking needs but not much. Mostly on fondant, candy molds and candy pieces for the mold. As for customer service it was ok I guess I was going to ask a lady who was working there where the cookie cutters were but she left and no where to be found. It's safe to say that I have been to the majority of Michael's stores in LA. And I can say with confidence that, while most of them are at a 4-star level, you can tell a lot about the store's management based on it's layout, cleanliness, and cashier's service. That said, this one is one of the nicer locations in LA, and even has lots of parking and is surrounded by equally interesting stores. The layout makes sense, the store is clean, and the selection is abundant (at least for being a Michael's store!). I would say it's worth the trip to Glendale to visit this location over the Burbank one (which is nothing short, usually, of a nightmare!). read more

Came in today looking to buy candles and yarn. Was super happy to use my 50% off coupon but the lines were soooo long. I mean we wrapped around the store to where it was hard for other shoppers to browse. They didn't seem to mind or move quicker. Plus one of the girls who worked there was really rude and walked away while a customer was asking a question:/ RUDE!!!! Pro: Lotsa of craft and supplies here. Con: Long story short - recently your employees left me waiting on the phone for over 20 mins. 20+ minutes. The first said I don't think we have the item you're inquiring about, told me to hold on, said they couldn't find it, and that I would be transferred to a different department. Afterwards a different employee kept picking up the phone every so often (a different one each time I should clarify) to ask what I needed help with, said they'd return and never did. After the last wait, which was almost 10 minutes at that point, I hung up. 20+ minutes. I finally just drove over and they kinda had what I was looking for. So that's the only reason the store gets 2 stars. If you've got time to kill to look around, you may find what you're looking for. Michaels Management - you should go over telephone etiquette with your staff and help come up with some solutions for them so they can provide better service to customers. read more

This is a large Michael's store located in a plaza with lots of other stores like Nordstrom Rack, Cost Plus, and Ross. So you can do a bunch of shopping at one location. The store is very organized and orderly and has lots of different arts and craft items, just like the other Michael's stores. My hubby and I participated in a shirt tie dye class today and made our own designs! It was fun! Apparently, they have ongoing kids and adults classes for a variety of different arts and craft projects. read more

Coming to Michaels Arts & Crafts can be an overwhelming experience. I've never liked craft stores. I attribute this from my mother as she used to drag me and my brother around Hawaii going to craft stores and other stores of the like when we were younger. Just thinking about that brings back those memories. Entering Michaels is like entering a library or bookstore. There are many aisle and you don't know where anything is located. Being a newbie to this place, I mustered my courage and went through the aisles looking for things that I needed for my Halloween costume. As I mentioned earlier, there are many aisles of craft stuff in your face which I found to be a little disorienting. I felt an anxiety attack slowly approaching......... As many yelpers have written, this store is understaffed. Let me stress the UNDERSTAFFED. However, I lucked out that evening by finding the helpful Tamar who was my saving grace. She guided me through the store and helped me find all the items I needed for my costume. I was extremely happy with her service that I spoke to her supervisor to inform him of her good service. I hope Michaels has an employee recognition system in place so that she gets the recognition which she truly deserves. I was in and out of the store within 20 minutes or less with no anxiety attack. Michaels is located in the same complex as the Nordstrom Rack and Ross and there is ample parking. Now, to put the final touches to my costume and rock the hell out of it on Halloween. read more

I love Michael's. This store is like fiance's worst nightmare, because I think we average a longer trip here than Target (and that's saying a lot!!!). Utilize the coupons that you get - in the paper and after your purchase. So, let's say you need to go in and buy a few things, one of which is a bigger item that isn't on sale. So, make your smaller purchases, and you'll generally get a coupon for 40-50% off one item your next purchase (not Cricuts unfortunately!). So, if you're buying all your supplies but need your giant canvas or special paint, or whatever big ticket/price item it is, just make the extra trip - the savings is worth it! Again, utilize the coupons you get in the paper, online or in the store, and make the most of this Michael's. Scour the $1 bin for goodies, giveaways and trinkets you can keep for misc. DIY projects (that's how our wedding budget is thanking us!). Sometimes there will even be coupons for total purchases including clearance, so rummage through those few stands of clearance and get yourself a fabulous deal. Oh, and Day-After-Christmas and Black Friday generally chug out some great deals - so please, please, please don't spend more money than you need to - just spend it at the right time! Parking here can be pretty brutal, so park downstairs and take the escalator up. read more

I am not a fan of Michael's. But for lack of better options, I shop here. Mostly for work. I prefer independently owned craft stores, as I feel those are better run, and managed- but there aren't many left in the Los Angeles area (Michael's having put them all out of business) Ahem. Anyhow, this is not my favorite Michael's (but it is the closest one to my office). It is a rare day when the staff has a good working knowledge of the store's inventory, but sometimes you get lucky. So far, this place feels like a typical Michael's to me...chock full of a variety of stuff. However, this store always seems to be more disheveled than others. Went there last night to start accumulating arts and craft things for my wedding and my fiancé and I were shocked at the total chaos of the shelves. It's really a strange thing.....the entire time we were in the "wedding section", there was consistently 1-2 employees hovering around straightening ribbon.....RIBBON?!? yet a few rows down, their house decorations were scattered all over the floor. There was lots of wood and broken merchandise yet these two characters were so concerned about their rainbow pattern of ribbon...smh... Also, when I went to pay, I showed the woman my egift card and she proceeded to look at me like she had never seen a mobile gift card in her life. This particular 5-star review is for Bob in the framing department. The framing here is absolutely top notch- everything I have brought here for framing looks stunning. Bob took care of several of my original art pieces. I felt extremely reassured. For just one example, he went the extra mile to physically iron the cloth that I had done my dip-dye art on and it made all the difference. He definitely did not have to do that. Michael's is just in general my jam. Their staff is fairly knowledgable, whether I'm looking for the perfect canvas, painting supplies, pen & ink supplies, or artist papers. Strathmore is also almost always on sale - score! One con, which as you'll notice isn't enough reason to dock a star, is that the whole store seems to be understaffed. If you have a question, you'll likely have to run around the store for 5 min trying to find someone. read more

I definitely want to update my review from April. I went back a few days ago to this exact same store and boy was I impressed. Customer service: a total 360 deg change. I walked in and found the beads aisle that was marked 40% off, a lady was working on the aisle and I reluctantly asked her if the sale was for everything (which was somewhat redundant as it says all) instead of an annoying look the lady smiled, read the sign, looked at the products and verified that it is indeed my lucky day, as everything is 40% off. When done shopping, I waited in line for about 3 minutes and another cashier opened up (my perception is that they valued my time) called me over to help me right away. In addition to that without me asking Marjorie the cashier encouraged me to go their website, select my store, click on coupons to obtain 40% off on one of my item which saved me $16. They truly wowed me this time. Store tidiness: They also did an excellent job as the store was in pristine order. Every thing is arranged, in its proper place and they put up more lights. So definitely helped locating items quicker than before. The vibe also changed - I felt happy to be in the store enabling me to want to look around, spend a little more time to browse and appreciate other products. I'm glad I gave them a second chance as this time around with this experience I would say definitely I would recommend my friends to shop in this branch. Kudos to Michael's Arts & Crafts for such an excellent change. My perception is that they read the reviews here on yelp, found the issue and implemented the changes in a matter of few months. The general store service isn't that great. But there is a positive. I was there this week on groomsman duties sorting out wedding errands and Bob the craftsman at the back workshop was absolutely friendly, accommodating and helped with so much from advice, suggestions and even expediting our order in time for the wedding!
