This location is just like any other, but their customer service is definitely nothing to write home about. Went in for some supplies for my costume and had a simple question, but could not find an employee around. Finally, when I did, they ignored my hello and proceeded on their stroll through the store. Maybe they were on break/lunch, but they could've taken their vest off or at the very least smiled when I greeted them. Why aren't there 1/2 stars? With Hobby Lobby open across the street, you'd think the staff at Michaels would step their game up, but that's not the case. During my last (and I literally mean my LAST) visit, I saw several staff members cleaning the aisles. Not one person approached me or asked if I needed assistance. Once again, several of them were too busy talking about other people to notice there were potentially paying customers. Grabbed what I needed and got in line. There were 2 cashiers, though I saw several employees around the store. After standing in line for 10 minutes, I put my items back and went to Hobby Lobby. This location is just AWFUL. read more

I really appreciated the customer support in the Framing department. In the process of framing a poster from France, a corner of the poster was damaged. They matted the poster in a way that looked nice and did not reveal the damage. Simultaneously they ordered a new poster (from France) and later re-matted and framed it as we originally designed. I've been coming here for years, mainly because it is the closest to me. I gave it 3 stars because I do end up finding what I am looking for (sometimes those items are fairly expensive for what they are), however, asking for help or where to find things is a game in and of itself. Nobody seems to know and I get a lot of blank stares. I never thought that I would need to visit a Michael's because I'm not really into arts and crafts, but my nieces and nephews, a little cousins are and I promised one of them I would get them a drawing/sketch set and this was the only place I could think of. I entered here like someone lasting Jumanji - I was essentially trying to find my way around and figure out where I would go. After walking around I finally found the arts and drawings/sketch section. There were tons of different options in this section, of which I had no idea what anything meant, so I flagged down an employee for assistance. This employee was very knowledgeable and glad to assist me with my questions and needs. By time she was done explaining things I felt like I could go sketch me Basquiat in my living room myself! Lol I begin to enjoy myself inside of Michael's and decided to shop around for myself. I had a couple paintings I needed to hang in my home so I found the section geared towards paintings and got some amazing hooks in wall things to hang the paintings. Before I went overboard from shopping inside of Michael's I decided to call it a wrap and get out of there before I spent all my money trying to become the next painting project LOL. So sitting at home during all this crap you tend to use up supplies. the red paint went first and the blue and white are getting low. I guess lots of people are having the same issue because the local store (Redondo Beach) is out of almost everything. Anyway my wife found the red and white at the Hawthorne store, it's a bit of a trek but if I don't go I'll just sit and watch TV. So I ran an errand in Signal Hill then got on the freeway and when I finally got there the girl handed me a bag with one bottle of paint! I told her I was supposed to get a red and a white and she said "no, just the one". She didn't look at the paperwork or anything so I pulled out the paperwork and showed her and she said "ya, but you were only charged for the one", as if that was the only thing that mattered! Anyway no other help was offered like trying to locate the paint at another store and I could see she had better things to do so I just left. Online order pickup needs to be marked. It is at cash register 5 but who would know that the first time. A big sign would help a lot.

Make sure to check your receipts because they will scam you by charging you multiple time on a single item you came in for. Their phone does not work so don't even try calling customer service. Manager thinks it's funny when I came in to get my refund. She said it happens very often here. I suggest going elsewhere where they won't scam you. read more

This Michaels is closest to my house and work but is small and can get very, very busy. For this location, the staff has always very helpful, attentive and accommodating. Sherry (not sure if she's still there but has always been a god send for me whenever I went in for supplies, ideas or my daughter's school projects. She went above and beyond in customer service and always helped me find what I need or offered an alternative to whatever craft project I was working on). Recently, I had been practically living at Michaels for a wedding I was in and the Easter holiday. I'm used to Michaels not really having much help and only having 1-2 cashiers come after a line forms and we've been waiting for about 5-10 minutes in the past. The day I happen to almost have a crafting meltdown, a male manager (failed to get his name) greeted me. He was very pleasant and patient as I threw all kinds of questions and requests at him while he was trying to re-stock and assist others. He was very helpful and familiar of the layout of the store. He offered suggestions and when he wasn't familiar with an item, he enlisted another staff member to help show me where it was. And when I was checking out, he walked over to inquire if I found everything I needed. I was very impressed with this new system this particular Michaels implemented. One line with at least 2-3 cashiers to ring. It seems they stepped up their staffing need and check out efficiency. I usually find this location has most and all of the craft items I need, although small in size, has a good team. Parking: There is a large parking lot but Michaels shares it with Food for Less, Anna's Linens, El Pollo Loco, Verizon, some Chinese Food Express place and a bunch of smaller stores making it difficult and busy on the weekends, during lunch and/or dinner time. read more

The staff is GREAT here. I needed help one time with locating certain plant decorations and flower arrangements and it turned out they have a flower specialist in site! This place is great if you need to make something. It's conveniently next to a Home Depot. I have always had positive experiences when I needed to get things here. My only problem with this place is how corporately charming it tries to be. I don't really like its design, and it feels kind of heartless. The employees are also likely underpaid, which doesn't make them love working there. I wish they were more involved in the local community, but for what it is this place is better than anywhere I know around Hawthorne. read more

Great selection, but I find the customer service at this store SO frustrating. I've never been to the store when there hasn't been a line of at least 3 people long with one slow-as-molasses cashier. (For example, once there was a lady at the only open register who was asking for descriptions of every class Michael's offers, and the cashier was flipping through their binder reading the descriptions to the lady while the waiting customers line grew, and grew and grew. Don't EVER go to this store in a hurry or you'll blow a gasket. Leave at least 10 to 20 minutes for waiting at check out. Argh. read more

I stopped by this location on Wednesday (05-15-2013) in hopes of finding a mason jar with a screw up airtight top to store some things at home in. I decided to come to this location because of its accessibility to the 405 (right off of the 405 North/South @ Rosecrans). The parking lot for this location is HUGE. This location shares its parking lot with a Food 4 Less and several other big box stores. I am a lover of Michaels. I have come here on several occasions to pick-up supplies for various art projects. If you are ever interested the work I created using supplies bought at Michaels are now on display at Tanner's Coffee in Playa Del Rey (90293). I parked my vehicle a short distance away from the front doors of Michaels. I walked inside and immediately noticed the long line to checkout (pay). The line was 15-20 people deep with 2 cashiers working. I figured hey I will walk around the store for a bit, come back up with the item I was searching for and the line will definitely have moved along by then, WRONG!!!!!!!!!! I made sure to pay attention to what the last person in line was wearing so I can judge by that person how far they moved along, the answer was about 2-3 spaces closer to paying, which basically meant they still had a good 10-15 minute wait to pay. I continued to walk around in attempts to locate this Mason jar but could not find an employee to ask and I was looking for someone to help me. While browsing through the aisles I did notice some very cool items for sale. I have a couple ideas in my head for further art designs and Michaels will definitely be the spot I come to when I want to fill those needs, I will just come when they open to avoid the lines I saw here on this visit. On this visit I abandoned my search for a Mason jar based on not being able to find an employee to ask and how long the line to pay was. As stated above this will not stop me from coming to this location I will just plan out my visit a little better the next time around. I believe on this visit I came by around lunchtime and that was my fault, if you are trying to avoid lines anywhere lunchtime is not the time to succeed at that task. read more

I I would've given this store 1 star. But the cashier was really nice. Foremost, I was at a Sherwin Williams trying to find a can of a specific plastic spray paint for a project. They didn't have the one I wanted. So they recommended Home Depot or Michael's off Rosecrans and Ocean Gate. I decided to go to Michael's since it was closer. I walked into the store and was looking for the spray paint can section. A saw a little old caucasian customer with a spray paint bottle. She was still shopping. I stopped her and asked her where she get it. She told me where she got it by pointing. She also added: "you have to ask the lady to open the shelf and get you one out." I thanked her and went straight to the lady. The store clerk was putting new spray cans in the lockable shelf. I asked her about the plastic spray paint. She said they didn't carry that product. But she recommended another can of spray paint that may be perfect for my project. I decided that I'm tired of driving all over town for this can of spray paint. So I said ok, I'll take it. She said "I'll take meet you at the cashier." I was shocked. But I said ok, because I wasn't about to make a big complaint against this racist lady for a $9.99 can of spray paint. When I arrived at the check out, the racist clerk was on her way with the $9.99 can of spray paint. I guess she didn't know that I was aware that she allowed the little old caucasian lady to shop around the store while holding onto her can of spray paint. But clearly discriminated against me, as if I'm a thief who would like to go to jail for $10 by stealing the bottle of spray paint. I couldn't wait to leave a 1 start review about this store on yelp as soon as I got home. But the cashier who sold me the product was very nice. So I couldn't leave the store 1 star. NOT HAPPY AT ALL! I ordered curbside pick up at 1:30 P.M. today and I was waiting for e-mail saying I could pick it up. I ended up driving all the way over there from Torrance and called to see if my ordered was done. Let me just emphasize that I ordered 4 small things, and they told me that there was a glitch in the system and my order would take another 3 hours. It's been three hours and now they're closed!!!!! I NEEDED MY ORDER TODAY! I understand businesses are going through a crisis but the whole point of curbside pick-up is the get the "fastest service possible." Went in to pick a camera that they say was in stock. Waited in the long line like everyone else. When I got up to the cashier she seemed like she was put off that I was even there. I explained I wanted to pick up the white camera. She mumbled under her breath and said they only have the colors on the empty boxes. I showed her the app that stated they had this item in stock and she just shrugged her shoulders. I asked if she could call over and see if they had one at the other Michael's in Torrance? She asked another cashier and she said they do that when they are busy. They had 8 people in line with 6 cashiers open. I asked to speak with the Manager. Eric strolled over and I explained what I was looking for and he says oh I sold that early this morning. My question is. If I am a paying costumer who stood in line like everyone else , why can you not help me? Maybe you could have offered the other color. Also how come when I go online to see the availability does it show you have stock. At other locations it states they have low quantities. But not yours?? When you say you are out? If by walking to the back to see what you had in stock was such a hassle as a manager maybe you need to find a non customer related job. I lost total respect for this place! read more

Ok, ok, i'll admit, i secretly scower pinterest to look for crafts to do (or wish i had time to do) but I FINALLY went to this place to get some art supplies and I was very very pleased with the selection. I did have to find someone to help me out which was a little hard because they don't seem to be readily available. However, if you have time to look around they have great dollar bins and craft ideas. I had to get this stuff called armour etch which was behind this gate near the cash register (with the sharpie paint pens and other things you could get high off of). I pressed the button and no one came to help me, but then 3 people came to help so I dont know if thats a plus or minus. The check out lady was really friendly and was telling me her experience with the armour etch. Definitely an affordable place to go to when looking for art supplies of any kind.
