Not only that, but when I asked for something, they associate knew exactly what I was talking about and exactly where to find it - "isle 36, right ride bottom shelf". Horrible service from the checker named Solomon. You'd think during this busy holiday season they'd be trained to be a little cheery. Store staff should always be helpful. I asked him s simple question when we were paying. "Is the wrapping paper on sale also"? His reply "I have no idea" Whatever happened to "I'm not sure, let me check for you" Then we asked if we could split the check onto 2 cards. He said "I'm not even sure you can do that" I told him we do it all the time. He said "Well I don't know how" No help whatsoever. Michaels has a great selection and variety of arts and crafts supplies. But I found it difficult to find stuff at this location because the aisles weren't accurately labeled. I usually need to go to Michaels for some cheap yarn or for some cake decorating items. I know where these items are in the store, which certainly helps, as this store seems super cluttered and barely navigable. The absolute worst part about this particular store is that no matter what day or time I go here, there must always be at least 20 people in line. Expect to wait at least 15 minutes to check out, no exceptions. It's particularly bad if it's right before the store closes in the evening and all of the stragglers throughout the store rush into the line. I just wanted to write a review about my experience. I planned on buying a Cricut Explore Air as a birthday present for my Fiance. I started by shopping around online and Amazon, but I figured, I love Michaels and the atmosphere, I should just grab one down the street. Even though it cost more than the other businesses. I called in to see if they had one in stock. I was put on hold for about 5 min which was not really that long, but when the person came back to the phone, I asked if they one i stock. The person on the phone had no idea what a Cricut is. Really?? A craft store? You don't know what a Cricut is? She then said they do not sell them. I insisted that Michaels do sell them (I researched), she put me back on hold for another 5 min, yay, then a manager came on the line. I asked if he had any Cricuts in stock, he checked and he said he did. Finally, getting somewhere. Now I am headed to the store, and when I get there, he goes to the back and grabs one. I have no idea what other accessories that I would need to purchase, so I ask what else would he recommend. Of course, he does not know. No idea. He proceeds to ask an associate and she says she does not know either. (Wow very helpful, they did not try to find anyone else to help me, nor did they attempt to look around with me in the Cricut section). He then says this can not be returned, it is a final sale. Why did he have to tell me that? I was not planning on returning it, as I know it was a long awaited gift to my fiancé. The way he said it as he looked me up and down, he said "Yeah our store does not make any money on these things, so yeah no returns." Why did he insist that I needed to know that? I wanted to buy a whole bunch of stuff to go with it. I feel like he lost a lot from my sale. I could have just walked out and ordered online like my first mind. But I really wanted to get it that day. Anyway I purchased the Cricut Explore Air despite the lack of assistance and attitude of the workers. If I could not return my item (as the manager made sure I knew clearly that "You can not return this!) why does my receipt say that I can? I spent $294.29, how does a store not make money off of this? And how does a store with such a large purchase not provide adequate assistance? I usually Yelp my reviews, but this one bothered me so much, that I figured I would write an email instead. So I wrote corporate an email. But I received no response. I guess they figured they got their money regardless.. Next time I will buy from Amazon or some where else. read more

I've always had a good experience at this Michaels. On the weekends it can get uncomfortably busy, but during the week it's great. There's a large parking lot out front which is nice. The staff is always helpful and friendly. read more

CUSTOMER FOR LIFE: The best customer service frame department ever! Frame Department manager, Alfredo, helped me with an order that was selected/purchased in California but sent to a Michaels store on the east coast for adding the print and final assembly. The frame was too large to carry on board a flight and shipping would have likely resulted in broken glass. Alfredo contacted the east coast Michaels store where I had a 24 hour layover and worked out the details to have my order waiting for me to pick up. Alfredo also ensured I received the sale price too although I would have paid a premium for the convenience. Alfredo's willingness, insight, competence, and innovation speaks so well of him and also the Michaels brand. His leadership qualities are exceptional. Give that leader a store to manage! read more

We can all agree that Michaels carries quality crafting materials at prices that offer great value. But the Michaels stores can be hit or miss when it comes to the overall customer service experience. Some stores have fabulous staff and poor management like the Michaels Store in Torrance; other Michaels stores have great managers and okay staff. This store has wonderful products and some nice clearance surprises to keep you returning to this location. In addition, this store is managed by Shaun and he has a great personality and commitment to the store that keeps customers happy. His staff is very kind and knowledgeable. It's a real gem in the South Bay. If you live in the middle of two stores like I do, I recommend the Hawthorne store over the Torrance store any day. Have fun crafting!!! read more

This place had all the supplies I needed. I also had a nice man who took me to the items I needed instead of pointing in some general direction. The reason for the 2 stars is the check-out. First, the signs point to where you check out but there are boxes blocking the entrance. I had to pick my way around a maze if items to find a way to the check out. Once I got there I was happy to see I was next in line! 10 min later I was still next in line... I think they put the slowest cashier on the only open register. Once I get to the cashier she slows down even more. I feel bad for all the peeps behind me! Also, the cashier doesn't even look at my credit card or ID. Although if she had then I'd probably still be there waiting! When I asked her about it she said they only check transactions of 50.00 or more. Um, I just spent 100.00... If my math is correct that is more than 50.00. Scary! read more

Great place to buy all my sewing and arts & craft needs. However this store is really messy and I saw a lot of empty shelves. Granted its close to Xmas so the store is busy and probably low on stock but I found it difficult to find anything. The queue for the checkout was HUGE too. But again it's a week before Xmas so I'm sure the long queue is just a seasonal thing. The line was moving reasonably quickly so I can't complain. read more

Always nice to visit this store. I primarily get stickers and construction paper. They have great deals on frames and other things especially the week of Christmas. They have different deals everyday. I got a BOGO deal and 60% deal on frames on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Paint and art things and all Christmas things were 50%-70% off. read more

This location has the worst customer service. Went in there to buy scrap book materials for my girlfriend. It took 45 minutes to get a person to come and help me. And to make it worse, I had to go back 2 days later because I bought the wrong item she wanted but I couldn't find the receipt so they would only give me 50% of the value of what I originally spent! On top of that they had moved the sections around in that time and it was all in a different location in the store than it had been 2 days prior! read more

Commissioned a custom mat and went to pick it up today. Three of the four corners had been overcut (where the fine cuts go past where they should). I refused to accept it. The person behind the counter said 'well, they'll have to cut it again and the new one will be just like this'. I sent it back anyway. I frequent this store on a weekly basis since I am a work at home crafter and my experience is always been very pleasant. Yes there does tend to be a line most of the time I visit the store but it is never more than 5 minutes and that is with 15 people ahead of me in line. I do agree with the comment I saw about having to wait for the things that are in cages like spray paint and markers ( I love that Michaels carries Copics now) but again the wait is never over 5 mins if that for someone to unlock them. I always have coupons to buy what I am looking for and they have great sales. One of the great things I noticed is that they have in store crafting events for kids and make and takes. You get to try what they are creating with and that is really fun. I really enjoy this store. read more

This particular store has been my go to store for years; however, after today's experience, I definitely will think twice before returning to this location. My daughter is obsessed with SLIME, given they had an open slime bar today, I figured, why not give it a try. The instructor was welcoming and aided my daughter with materials and what nots. Overall, my daughter enjoyed the experience. Upon my other daughter awakening from her nap, I requested that she have an opportunity to create her on personal slime, welp the staff member gave my daughter a bag of slime in which she had added the finishing touches to; shortly after the manager came in and stated that he would make another announcement in order to give other kiddos in the store an opportunity to create their own personalized slime. Here's my concern, the staff member present should have rightfully gave my daughter the same opportunity to personalize slime; the staff member present mentioned that the class ended at 3:00 pm well it was 2:40 pm when my daughter awoke which gave her roughly 15 minutes to personalize her slime. Upon finishing up with the slime experience, I decided to do a little shopping. I love the variation of craft storage containers they have given they were marked 50% I figured why not stock up. In addition to such, I'm so into the various stickers (which were priced at $10) and add ons available. I found a planner for $3.49; please note it was not notated on the self. Once I secured all items for purchase I went to the register in order to pay for my items. Given I had a 60% off coupon, I utilized it for an additional planner. Of course once the cashier rang up the stickers they rang up at $19.99 not to mentions the planner for $3.49 she decided to ring up for $10.00. Given the cashier was trying to make the appropriate modifications, I sent my daughter through the line in order to aide my younger daughter with her purchase utilizing the 60% off coupon. My daughter informed me that the cashier looked at her with hesitation and whispered to the cashier next to her. Needless to say, there was a planner that I requested that they search to confirm as to whether it was in stock, I'm not certain this particular stores method to search for an item but it was rather lengthy. While waiting the manager approaches the cashier area and inquires as to the discrepancy with the coupon on register six; well no person was present at register six and my daughter was the last customer helped at the specified register. My assumption is that there was something said in regards to my daughter going through the line with my younger daughter to aide her in purchasing her item at 60% off. Here's my concern the coupon does not stipulate an age in order to make a purchase, my children are rightfully entitled to make a purchase; it's heartbreaking that cashiers whisper amongst each other in regards to my children simply making a purchase followed by contacting the manager. My experience today will definitely have a lasting affect and further question as to whether I will return to this particular store. They did not have the planner I requested they check for, I guess that was a good thing as I made contact with staff at the Downey store and they confirmed that they had the item in stock and offered to hold the item for me. Upon entering the store I was greeted by staff as well as throughout the store as I shopped. The area in which the planner were located was well kept and had an extremely wide variation of planners as well as accessories. Upon checking out I informed the cashier that I had an item on hold, while she began to inform me she would get the item, another staff member came along and said he'd grab the planner. I was AMAZED as to the great customer service I received from entering to exiting the store. As for now, I've found a new location with better services and a better selection of items. hummmm....where do I even begin? ........BOY! first impression of the store when I walked through those double doors, "HOLY S%&*" this place is very messy! I am very anal about organization, especially when I shop! Everything was all over the place. I went in for fondant and a few other baking items. Their Baking selection was pretty wide but everything again was misplaced or opened. (Opened box of sprinkles?? really, did someone really need to try the flavors before purchasing it?). They don't carry a lot of books if that's what you're looking for. But the books that they do have on stock are ripped up and bend...so pretty much not worth the money. Their check out line is reallllllllllllllly weird! It's like one line that wraps around the middle of the store that leads to an area of about 5 cashier stands. I love my crafts but I wont be coming here again. read more

Don't call expecting the employees to know anything. I normally frequent the Michaels in West LA, and they are quite helpful. However recently I was looking for a specific item that wasn't in stock at my local store. The employee there was able to find out in just a few mins that while he didn't have it in stock, the Hawthorne store did. So I called Hawthorne. A girl answered their phone, I gave her my item number, and she put me on hold. I thought she would look it up in the computer just like my store did. Nope. I waited for over 8 mins, and suddenly a man answered and asked what I needed. I told him the same thing. On hold for another 5 mins. He finally came back and said he forgot the product number I had just given him. I very slowly repeated it. He then asked me to repeat it again without the first two numbers. Who would guess that it would be so difficult to write down a number? He finally came back and said they didn't have the item in stock, and suggested I call the Hawthorne store. When I told him he was currently working in the Hawthorne store, he said "oh! Yeah..." I asked him if he could check to see if the item was in stock in any other local stores, and he said "you should just call them yourself." Ok. Wow. What took my local store less then 2 mins to do, took this store almost 20, and I didn't even get the answer to my question. Very bad employee training. read more

I go to this michaels for all my crafting needs. One of the guy managers always helps and acknowledges me and every customer he walks by. For that reason only I'm giving five stars. I love coming here but today cashier Kim felt that her lunch was more important then providing great customer service. Apparently I was her last customer before she asked if she could go to lunch and from the moment I got to her cashier she immediately tried dismissing me grabbing an online coupon from my phone and just asked for my items. I'm not the type to pick on bad service but I hate when you are trying to rush me not to help the line but so you can go to lunch. On top of that she was I guess letting a new employee watch her maybe for training. I hope this new employee doesn't carry on that bad habit of Kim. read more
