Spotted Shouk on Dublin's The Eater Essentials and we booked this dinner res as our first night…read more Overall, the food was fantastic, great price point. and portion sizes were fantastic. Shouk's interior is very cute, with high ceilings and an open set up allowing you to dine outside, in a room connected to the outdoor space, or a darker, "indoor" area. food: Fantastic. As someone who is GF and was worried about this when traveling abroad, the GF options where fabulous and the restaurant is very accommodating. The food was fresh and served warm right as it was finished - huge plus service: Servers were kind and lovely :) Every table reservation gives you 1hr and 45 minutes to dine. if you're running late, you won't lose your table but you'll just be seated for a shorter amount of time - keep that in mind :) ambiance: The only reason I'd give Shouk 4 stars is because of the distance of the tables. In the room connected to the outdoor space where we were seated, things did feel a bit cramped. The restaurant has an "open kitchen" where you can see your food being cooked and come out which is great, but we did sit right next to the kitchen and things got a bit stuffy, despite the doors being open outside. Not sure if this was ventilation or the fact that there were many tables and folks dining that night, but that's the only thing i'd change about our experience.

The restaurant is right beside Drumcondra railway station, tucked into a corner of the Old St Vincent's Centre for the Deaf. Inside a cosy but buzzy dining room greets you with an impressive number of hungry diners tucking in to the Middle Eastern/Lebanese fare. We ordered a large mezze to share together with a Batta which is mostly roast sweet potatoes stuffed with lamb mince, yoghurt and spices. Absolutely fantastic. The mezze came with plentiful flatbreads which we hungrily filled with deliciousness and devoured. As it was lunchtime, we decided not to have any wine but I'd be pretty confident it would only be better with a crisp Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. As it was, we had some sparkling water instead and agreed it was a standout meal that was filing but also vaguely healthy. Service was speedy and attentive and we emerged into the sunshine to begin, once again, the odyssey across the Liffey. We will be back.

We stopped in on a Friday night…read morebecause of its convenient location and were warmly greeted and immediately liked the cozy interior. The food, however, really let us down. Everything was overpriced and nothing was made fresh. The meagre kitchen set-up consists of a microwave and a toaster oven, which everything is reheated in. We ordered the stuffed pepper and prawn & chorizo starters. The portions were very small; we especially felt ripped off when we saw the size of the prawn & chorizo dish. For €8, we got 4 tiny shrimp and a few small pieces of sausage. We also shared the mushroom and spinach pizza, which was as hard as a board. I'm all for thin crust, but this was so dry, it was basically a giant cracker.... And the worst part was the mushrooms were canned! For €15, it just really didn't cut it. The staff couldn't be faulted, though. They were attentive and even gave us complimentary desserts for moving to accommodate another walk-in party. Unfortunately, I was just so disappointed with the food that I wouldn't return.

We did indeed have those olives and some pita bread for the road. The pita bread was so soft and fluffy, and also stayed warm throughout our night. There were falafels of several different varieties, and I had the Palestinian Falafel plate, which came with six crunchy spiced chickpea fritters along with a grainy hummus and a salad of lettuce, tomatoes, pickled cucumbers and red cabbage, parsley, and olives. I also tried the Mixed Shish plate, which came with a chicken kebab and lamb kofta (minced lamb) kebab, which were both flavorful but slightly dry. At the table were two sauces including a creamy white sauce and a spicy red chili sauce, but my favorite part of the meal was the freshly baked naan breads, which were thin and crispy in the center and puffy and chewy around the edges.

It is 20 minutes from city center but well worth the taxi. The restaurant is housed in a lovely duplex space which is modern and elegant. The first floor is wonderful since you can observe the chefs in the open kitchen and gaze at the adjacent small bar. I was also blown away by the wine program here. For such a small spot, they had creative offerings, pairing suggestions and knowledgeable wine and food servers. We started with the green asparagus and the cep dumplings. The cep dumpling is more unique but both were absolutely spectacular. We both had the halibut and it was also just perfection on a plate. Desserts were equally impressive and seasonal. We shared the strawberries with a gelatin/panna cotta base as well as the rhubarb cheesecake. True works of art. The crowd is definitively local which is so nice. And the service is incredible. Highly recommend this place if you want something that will rival any city dining establishment without the tourism feel. Well done Volpe Nera!

We ordered two glasses of Barbera wine as our cocktail, followed by calamari, pappardelle al funghi and ravioli Asiago. The wine was perfect and complimented our meal. Our server Massimo brought out some bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to start our meal. The calamari was amongst the best I've ever had, the breading was light and crispy. Both our pasta dishes were divine and authentic. At the end of our meal we had some espresso and were given complementary limoncello shots. Il Vicoletto was amongst the best restaurants we visited during our trip to Dublin. I highly recommend for anyone looking to eat great Italian food.
