Disorganized. Cluttered. No order whatsoever to this store. There are sale signs half dangling from the racks. And the sales don't really seem like sales (whereas at the Michaels I usually go to, they are evident.) I came here looking for a case for an autographed jersey. They had three cases, which you would assume would be right next to each other, but no, that wasn't the case. All three sizes scattered throughout an aisle. I'm not much of a DIY person, but occasionally feel crafty. Things were so scattered here that I wouldn't know where to begin if I wanted to start a project. This year I have to say, Michaels did an outstanding job at keeping up with Hobby Lobby. However both companies have two different spins on adding to the creative field. Where Michael's is the place to go for school projects whereas Hobby Lobby is great for home decor, art supplies and much more; I believe their is room for both of you On the Block. Where I come when the artsy fartsy in me wants to come out. They have a large selection of well, everything related to crafting. You want to scrap book? They got that here. You into knitting? Michaels has that covered. Perler beading (you should prob look it up...I had to)? They've got you. Nice selection and wide variety of stuff here from baking supplies to artificial flowers. On weekends they sometimes offer kids crafts for a nominal fee. We've brought our son here a few times and the kiddos can make keychains, picture frames, etc. The material here isn't cheap, but check your receipt and oftentimes there will be a 20% of one reg priced item coupon attached. Unorganized, unprofessional. The store manager needs to step it up to help support their associates doing curbside pickup. I have given this place multiple chances and excuses to their mishaps. When waiting for a simple item causes one to wait for 40 minutes and being hung up on when calling to see what's going on, that's just insane. I work in retail buy online pickup, and they way they treat their job is a joke. I would be written up for giving poor service. This store manager needs to help out their team. Lowes did a makeshift curbside area to stay a little organized why can't they? They have all the tools. This place is off my go to. read more

Yesterday morning I went to this store for framing. I waiting back there for about 15 minutes before someone helped me. I even pushed the button thats says "Push for assistance." No one came. I walked over to the side where I saw an employee in the back working on some frames and talking on the phone at the same time. I waved to her and she finally had put her phone down to come and help me. While she was helping me, it seemed like she was getting annoyed and irritable by the questions I was asking. I didn't mean to ask so many questions but I wanted to be a little more educated. I went here today 8pm because of the 50% discount in store only. When I was done getting all the items i need, i went to the price checker to double check my total price with discount. It was less than $35 or less. So when it was my time to pay, this guy (I will come back just to get his name) assist me in the cashier. He ring my items, total was $82 w/ tax and i provided him my coupon, he said put my no. And he will give me 25% off on top of my 50% coupon. The total became $60 something. I said to him it doesnt make sense. I ask him to scan my coupon. He asked me if I want to ring it in again. Which he did, same total, same process phone no. And his 25% off. I told him, the price does not make sense. It should be 75% off of the $82. I told him to scan my coupon, He said that was it. Clearly, this dude thinks im stupid that i will accept his 25% off and probably think i dont do math. I ended up leaving all the stuff on the counter. I feel sad I won't be able to get the stuff I need, but if that is the type of employee this michaels has, I think I did the right thing not to support or buy from them. Ordered curbside service ( 4 candles) They said it would take 24 hours to prep ?? That was after I called an hour after ordering.... nothing noted this when I ordered. The girl said wait in a parking stall and we will gather your order ?? Huh? Thought that's why I had to wait to pick up in the first place. So..... I've now been here for 35 mins!!! I go here when I have to go here. Either because nowhere else has what I'm looking for, or because their prices are far lower than anyone else around. Now, don't get me mistaken - their prices aren't always lower than everywhere else, but on holidays they go all out with the coupons. Recently, on Memorial Day, they had all sorts of stackable coupons - it's was a bargainista's fantasy. All the picture frames were 40%, then they had an extra coupon that gave 20% off of all frames, and then another one that gave 25% your entire purchase before noon. Not too shabby. And, surprisingly enough, the place wasn't a complete madhouse. But despite the lack of madhousiness, the staff... just... wow. I'm not sure what they do to the staff at Michael's, but it's abundantly clear that each and every one of them would rather have their fingernails extracted one by one than be at work. They must be daydreaming about horrific alternatives to work so much, that not only are they aloof, they are downright mean. So, yeah, I found all of my frames, and was pretty happy with my selection and downright giddy with my deals, and I go to wait in line. Nothing new at this Michael's, the lines are always absolutely terrible, and nothing is done to alleviate them. Then you go to check out, on Memorial Day Weekend, on the morning of this sale they've advertised everywhere, and the lady acts like it's a personal affront to her that you're using coupons. *sigh* I did get some kickass deals on some frames for some photos and prints I've had lying around forever, but sheesh, sometimes I think I'd rather go to the dentist than go to this Michael's. read more

This store has the best Michael's staff! We went on Thanksgiving day, and were pleased on how quiet the place was. No lines or crazy shoppers here! This was also the only Michael's staff were someone actually approached us and asked if we were doing okay. I did not have to hunt anyone down for 10 minutes. Lauren was the sales associate, and we bombarded her with questions. She answered each and every one pleasantly, and even looked in the back for the item that we wanted, after she scoured the aisle herself for it. She then asked another associate to help her out, but let us know, that if the item wasn't available, that perhaps she could find a store that might have it. Fortunately, the item was found, and it was brought to the register so we did not have to lug it around. We already had 3 carts between the 2 of us =). While we returned to shopping, a male associate asked us if we wanted him to hold the carts up front since there were 3, but we declined since we were almost done anyway. The same male associate (his cool but difficult name starts with an A) also offered to help us to our car and even lifted the 2 heavy items in the trunk. Thank you very much! My complaints with this Michael's store are that the aisles are SO very narrow. Only one cart can fit in most spots, and the carts are half the size of regular grocery carts, so that's saying a lot. Also, somehow, huge rolling ladders seemed to block some parts of the store where I wanted access. I encountered 2 during my shopping spree. I assumed the ladders were following me, lol. This store was not messy like other Michael's. Perhaps, they had stocked and organized it well to prepare for Black Friday. That, or they really have the best Michael's staff. read more

What to do on a rainy day when you have your 7 year old sister with you. Why stop at the local arts and craft store for some paints and stencils! Prefect place to get all your art and baking supplys. Yes, so of their stuff is kind of pricey and sometimes there isnt much help out on the floor either. But this store is on the cozy side and pretty much you can find what you are looking for by just wondering around. Was able to find christmas stencils, markers, and some glitter (couldnt find the color paint we needed) to make a christmas card for my sister's teacher. Took the cake decorating class thinking that it would help me learn and perfect my decorating techniques but this class is a total joke.The Wilton cake decorating class A scam. They get you in at 50 a class or the half off rate but they don't tell you that you would need to purchase all these additional things before signing up. I nearly spent over $150. Don't waste your time, better off searching on YouTube. The class is run by an employee who doesn't really explain into details. This is one of my favorite Michael's locations. It seems to carry much more stock and variety of products than The District location in Tustin and it's cleaner (albeit a bit more crowded) than the LA locations. I encountered 3 different staff members, and each one was as happy and helpful as can be. I think one of them was a manager - an Asian gentleman, who unlocked the spray paint gate and spent a few minutes looking for the exact color I needed. Thanks to the help of the staff, I found everything I needed on my list in about 5 minutes. I would have gotten out quickly, except the line was crazyyyy long and it moved pretty slowly. I was buying something that was $24.00 and I have a 50% off coupon, I had a brain fart & asked how much it would be with the coupon, instead of simply telling me, the cashier replied, "are you serious?", "how old are you" & I said I'm 19 & I'm a college student. I like the one in Lakewood, but this one's just a bit bigger, freeway close and has plenty of places nearby to eat. Came here for some jewelry stuff; a chain and some clasps. Now I have enough clasps and shit to last me until the next ice age or second coming of Christ. Also was looking for some casting stuff, but only had half of what I needed; did pick up some catalyst though (but I eventually had to go to the Art Supply Warehouse in Westminster anyway). The 40% coupons are always nice and sometimes the checkers will give you one if you don't have one. They're ramping up for Halloween and had a ton of stuff in the front area, which made it a bit messy. Still a good place to pick up some odds-n-ends. read more

Jeremy, How can I say thank you to someone that has helped me in such a big way. I was searching for a way to move past a lifelong wrong. You see, I am a high school dropout and as the oldest of 5 kids, this tarnished my family and left a lasting stain for over 20 years. As a family that is so big on education, I went off in search of happiness in other pursuits. Recently, I went back to school and received my bachelor's degree. This experience helped me to continue onto grad school. When my degrees arrived I needed something special to commemorate this special event. Initially I only wanted two frames (mom and dad) but ended up purchasing three (Aunt Ling). I was so impressed with Jeremy's craftsmanship that we ended up with 6 frames in total. The three degrees were mounted and framed so professionally well that I decided to give all three recipients two frames (one filled and one empty). This way when the MBA program wraps in April of 2013, I was motivated to continue on knowing that the graduate work would is eventually displayed as a reminder to my family that I did it and to myself to stay the course. So this Michaels is pretty much like every other Michaels you've been to. Nothing different. Nothing new. Cam in to pick up a frame for some artwork and found one I wanted pretty quickly. They have a nice selection of frames in varying sizes and colors. The employees in the framing section were very helpful and polite. Then I came across an employee that looked they they must have either been having a horrible day or just really hated their job. At first I thought she was somewhat rude and not helpful because she must have been headed for her break when I stopped her. Not cool, but understandable. Nope, 5 minutes later she had the same attitude while helping people at the registers. All the other employees were nice, so I'm giving this one 3 stars. read more

I went to Michael's for the first time about a week ago. I was going to try to be all Martha Stewarty and create a gift basket (which, by the way, is probably one of the most spectacular things I've ever put together). Basically, I needed one last item to wrap things up (pun intended): cellophane wrap. The place was not very busy on the day after Xmas, which was good. I was fearing crowds and disorder, which wreaks havoc for my German blood. Unsurprisingly, there was some degree of messiness (scavengers, I assume) and the people working there seemed like they were in outer space. It was quite strange. I felt like not only would they not have been able to ask any question about the store but also general questions (about life, multiplication, pet names, etc). You can imagine the SNL Jeopardy sketch: Alex Trebek: "Name a color of the rainbow." Burt Reynolds: "Yeah, I was married to Loni Anderson...so?" So, this place has lots of stuff for the clever crafter but for someone like me, I walked around for about 10 minutes just to get my bearings. A few of Michael's employees HAD to have seen me desperately trying to locate that one item, yet not one of them asked me if I needed assistance (why is it ALWAYS like that??? When you need it, you don't get it. When you don't need or want it, it's all over you like humidity in the South in summer!) So, I'd give this place four stars for what it offers (that includes the coupon I had). I give it two for their staff. Average: three stars. Who knows, I may just start scrapbooking. Pros: Wide variety of merchandise Cons: No/very little customer service, can be pricey, for most hobbies merchandise only meets the needs of beginners and intermediate crafters. Bogus competitor coupon policy. Art supplies pricing outlandish. I go here all the time since it's very close to my house. Michael's is pretty well stocked for your basic crafting needs and covers a variety of hobbies. Note that I said "BASIC." If you're really into a certain hobby/craft, you'd probably be better off going to a specialty store where they have more stock and possibly better pricing. When I go I pretty much have an idea of what I want and know the layout of the store. So I don't need much help. I do notice, however, that I am almost never approached by store personnel and asked if I need any help. It's like going to Home Depot, where you have to hunt down employees to get any help. When I do get help a lot of the times it isn't any better than what I could do myself. For instance, once I went in looking for star-shaped glitter. The staff suggested 2 places. When I went around the store more I found it in 5 different places. When I ask non-stock questions about the merchandise it doesn't get better. For instance, if you were to ask what the advantages of using bamboo yarn are, you may or may not get an answer, it just depends on which sales associate you ask. Now I know that knowledge in all the different crafts Michael's sells supplies for would be difficult for one person. But other places assign people to different departments and expect them to have knowledge in that area. That way someone who doesn't know the answer can call the person assigned to that department. It doesn't appear to work that way at Michael's. They always run 40% off a single item coupons, so be sure you get this. You can run an internet search and find one quite easily. I do have one beef about their competitor coupon policy. They say you can use competitor coupons. In this case it usually means Joann's. But when you use the coupon they effectively make it a Michael's coupon by excluding items that were not excluded on the Joann's coupon. For example, if you have a 40% off coupon from Joann's that doesn't exclude books, when you use it at Michael's, they'll say you can't use it on books even though the Joann's coupon says differently. What's the use of accepting competitor coupons then? And, if you are going there for art supplies, STOP. Their art supplies are way overpriced. Even with a 50% off coupon (yes, 50%, not 40%), their prices are just about average. For art supplies in this area go to the Art Supply Warehouse (Westminster). If you wait for their twice yearly sale you can get your supplies at 25% off. So for example, if you have 50% off Michael's coupon (a 50% coupon does not happen often), and something there costs $25 regular price, you'd pay $12.50 plus tax at Michael's. But Art Supply Warehouse will probably have that item for about $12.50 their regular price. And if you get it at their twice yearly sale, it'll be $10. Not only that, but the Michael's coupon only cover one item. So if you want to paint, you'll only be able to get one item--canvas, a tube of paint, or a paintbrush, for example. read more
