I like Michael's and I can usually find what I want there. What bothers me is that they will only take one coupon per purchase. Joanns' will take more than one coupon and also take other craft store coupons. I love crafts stores. I frequent this Michaels often however everytime I visit the line to check out is HORRIFIC! There is NO line and everyone stares at each other at who is "next in line". That's annoying and confusing. Also their art collection is okay?! They have your popular posters that "most" people have hanging in their homes so it's not sooo Original! But I still go there for little things like baskets, artificial flowers for decorating and paint. Go Michaels! read more

Staff was friendly and helpful in locating what we wanted. My ten-year-old son had a pretty specific request for a type of crafts product from which he could create a replica of a pyramid. Turns out Michaels had just the thing. One of the staff members, Katie, led us to an aisle with many options for malleable plastic blocks which can be easily spray painted and arranged to create all sorts of structures. My son picked one out and we were on our way in much less time than expected. If I have another need for arts and crafts I know exactly where I'm going next. I am so disappointed in their unprofessional customer service. Sunday morning, I brought in 5 enlarged photos to have matted, and was told they'd be done that afternoon, or at the latest the next morning. I showed up at 11 am to find that they hadn't even begun them. No call, nothing. I went back again at 3:00, and still nothing. I cancelled my entire order with them and went to another framing store and they did all the work in 25 minutes at nearly half the price of Michael's. Deliver what you promise! read more

So disappointed in the Pleasant Hill Michaels store. I bought a sizzix machine and came back a few weeks later to buy the embossing folders. When I asked for help, not one employee could answer a single questions about what I needed or how they worked. Not one. Incredible. The disgruntled young woman I spoke to asking for help actually seemed put out that I would assume she, or anyone working in this craft store could help me. I was floored at the lack of experience. I wound up leaving and ordering from another source online. I left the store feeling let down and realizing I needed other sources to buy from in the future. read more

I love shopping around here, but today I needed to check if they had something in stock and didn't want to drive the 20 minutes to find out they didn't, so I figured I'd just give them a call and have them check for me. The store does have everything, but it's expensive, and the absolute worst thing is the customer service. No matter when you go in, expect to wait forever in line. Save yourself the frustration and go to Joannes in Concord. I would NOT recommend this Michaels location. read more

Forget about having something custom framed after 8:30pm if the old guy is in-charge (even though they close at 9pm) because they will send you home. This is not a joke and has happened to me twice. I thought I was just unlucky the first time it happened. The old guy has a work rate of 1 custom frame every half hour and would tell the customer that there is not enough time to do another custom frame, and that they are already closing. They should just close shop at 8:30pm because they would rather lose a customer than work until 9pm. Also unlike other Michael's custom framing store, they don't provide frame hangers and nails for each custom frame. I asked and they told me to buy a set and pointed me to the aisle where I could find it. I've had to return a frame because the mats were huge and out of proportion and another custom frame had finger prints on the glass inside. Too much hassle. read more

Jessica, the Assistant Manager was a great help. I took in a small picture to be framed and she knew exactly what I wanted. Jessica was friendly and the type of employee you want to have help you in a retail store. Many times when you walk in the employees all scramble so they don't have to wait on customers. Jessica was the opposite, she came up to me and asked if I needed some help. Michaels this is the type of employee that you need in all of your stores. read more

Probably the most uninformed and uncaring staff at any craftstore I've been to. This was my first and last visit to this, or maybe even any Michael's. The lady who 'tried' to help me locate a particular brand of yarn I was after was condescending and overall unpleasant. After several useless minutes she walked away without so much as "have a good day". Eventually I found something that would suffice for my project and went to the checkout line. Biiig mistake, I should've just dropped the yarn and special-ordered it online and had it shipped to my house, extra cost be damned. There was one checker and the line wove in and around two aisles. I could easily see several other employees doing nothing of great importance (needlessly re-arranging silk flowers, checking cell phones), letting the line wend and wind along as the single checker frantically scanned each item, made several mistakes, and none of her co-workers came to her aid. It took me nearly 30 minutes of waiting in line to buy yarn that wasn't even my second choice. I know the checker was stressed, but she was unpleasant to deal with as well. Yes, she was having a bad day, but there's no need to take it out on a customer. Michael's REALLY needs to work on their customer service and team-building. A store cannot stay afloat if the staff is disjointed and selfish. Until that happens (and I doubt it will), I will be taking my business to other places. read more

I went to Michaels to get small candles for all the tables for our wedding. The prices on the candles were pretty reasonable but some other things are a a tad bit pricey like their faux flowers. But if you go when they have sales and are willing to take your time looking around you will most likely find what you need. I've been here in the past for other things too like scrap booking items and it's the same story the price depends on what you need. However, Michales is far better and less expensive for arts and crafts than Joanns. They are also well stocked and organized. There are not very many staff on the floor however most of the staff are at the registers. But when I arrived at the register with 60 glass votive candle holders all sold individually. The staff person took the time to find me a box for them and wrapped all of them. I will come here again and will continue to use them my arts and crafts projects read more

I would give this store an "eh". They have lots of craft goodies, but they often do not carry the scrapbooking items that are advertised. Some of the staff members are not very knowledgeable, and the checkout lines are confusing. The parking lot is mayhem on weekends. read more

This is an ideal place to get all of your decorative, artsy, and party planning supplies. They usually have plenty of items that may serve your purpose. While planning our wedding, I found that they had a pretty good selection of favors, ribbons, and other items. Sure enough, I made several trips here. Whether you're into knitting, crocheting, painting, or doing a project that requires lots of crafty ideas, this is the place to go. Their prices are reasonable and you can usually ask employees for assistance, if you can find one...I do think that they can improve on their customer service though, but I was very pleased with their products. read more

Don't bother bringing in your 20%, 40%, 95% off coupons, I doubt you have the patience to use them. Went in today and was pleasantly pleased with their selection in comparison to the E'ville store. Got my stuff and got at the end of a very long line, in my mind 20-30 people. Like typical Michael's fashion I assumed they had one cashier working even though +20 people are in line. I had some time to kill so I waited for a while. As I waited I watched people walk in the store entrance and turn right around and leave as they saw the long line. It was like seeing $ $¢ $$¢ walk out the door. I was thinking what a crappy business model. Hire like 2 more people and you won't lose so much business. After about 10 minutes I gave up. Dumped all my stuff and walked out. I went to the Hallmark store a little ways away. Who buys cards anymore? Well, they had like 4 people working. Everyone who wanted to buy their $2.60 cards got immediate service. I was thinking Michaels should borrow some Hallmark people. Ironically, later that day I had to go to an evening meeting on that side of the hills. I needed gas and ended up near the Michaels PH area. I said why not try it again. It was late so I figured the place would be pretty empty if it was even open. Not as crowded as earlier. I was hoping to find the stuff I dumped earlier but it wasn't there. At least someone is working, maybe they should have been working the cash register rather than picking up people's dumped items. Anyhow, I re-grab the stuff I wanted and ended up getting a little less since I'm not sending any extra money to Michaels. I get into line and it's looking pretty good. There are 10-15 people in line. I realized the line earlier in the day was like 40-50. I wait a couple of minutes in line, happy to be able to make this purchase so I can work on a project that evening. Wait a couple more minutes and I noticed the 4 people at the cash registers seem fidgety and one is actually sitting down. One of them finally looks at us in line and says the cash registers are down, we have to re-boot and it will take us 5-10 minutes. I think ok, it's a busy time, I'll hang in there for 7 minutes or so. They work to tell a few people in line but not all. After about 8 minutes I see one register working. Other people are finally figuring out what's going on and a few are leaving. I'm still optimistic that all 4 registers will soon be working. Now I see the two people working the registers near me have decided that they will try to restart their machines again but from the past they know they need to simultaneously shutdown and startup at the same time. Give me a break... I wait a few more minutes and see a black screen 5 minutes later. I ditch my stuff and walk out. I'm following the person behind me who also is walking out. What a joke. I'm sure this store lost tons of sales today. I also know I will never ever return here. read more

The checkout line is unacceptable. The store clerk told me that they don't carry something that I then found on the shelf. When something is out of stock no one knows if or when it might come in. I would only go there as a last resort when there's nowhere else to get an item, and I have a coupon. read more

Products are good and plentiful, but unless you know exactly what you want, don't expect decent staff service. The most painful thing about this store (Pleasant Hill Ca) is they do nothing to speed up check out, it's the absolute worst . Their employees are either slow in the head or poorly trained, either way it's a reflection on management. I'll continue to go there because it's the only game in town, which might be the reason they don't feel the need to improve customer service. after reading all the reviews.....i have no illusion this will make any difference. true....the inventory is more than adequate...but, the customer service is a total joke. clearly, they are understaffed and underpaid...hence, the attitude of the "help". my icky experience was with the "craggy, stroke faced" guy in the frame dept referred to by another yelper..... after over a patient 20 minute wait...he then walked over to interfere with the other guy who'd been working with somebody since before my wait. i was not acknowledged...finally asked if there was someone to help...total attitude from him.....NO customer service face AT ALL! ! i was shocked. tis true...."good help" is hard to find these days, and michael's is DEFINITELY not recruiting...but, reeeeeealy/! asked to talk to the manager who was totally helpless and harried...told her i'd see michael's on yelp. she was non-plussed...now, i know why...who cares? after reading all the negative reviews....just another day on the job for her.... read more

My grandaughter and I took a crochet class from Maria and had a wonderful time. My grandaughter is very excited about her new hobby. I took an arm knitting class from Maria also and made an awesome scarf. Maria has a passion for crocheting and it rubs off on her students. She is so knowledgeable. You learn from an expert. The workers here are nice. They have a lot of nice fake flowers and holiday stuff. Their art stuff is amazing. Parking can be hard to find, but it is usually bearable. They have tons of great photo frames and posters. Many great art projects for people of all ages. read more

I love Michaels Arts and Crafts stores...except this one :( Worst customer service EVER. If you can find someone to help you (good luck) they really are the rudest people I've ever managed to come across in any store I've ever been to. Last time I was there I asked someone for help and she was so annoyed! What are you there for? She was in the middle of something but I asked if she could help me when she was done...my bad. Too much to ask? At the register, they can't wait to get you through...God forbid you want a price check or have a question...then you tend to get the annoyed face or the why don't you know the answer to your question look. It's not just me. Every time my boyfriend and I go, we both leave talking about how we hate to go in there but we have to go in there,lol. Now, I have to say I've worked in retail and I know how it is and it can suck. But you also have to suck it up and put on a happy face and do your job. You are there to help people, and be nice about it. So to the people in the back or the people who are helpful and friendly and I just haven't come across them all the times I've been there, I'm sorry for the bad review. Oh where to start...I had a project in mind and researched what I needed online. I went in with a list of options and had looked to see if Michaels carried some of them. I don't expect that everything would be there but I certainly didn't expect the HORRIBLE service from the staff. I asked if a certain glue would work on glass and if it was waterproof. The response.." you can use whatever glue that you want I guess". I asked someone else who replied "I don't know, I dont work in this section". But no one could direct me to someone who might have any sort of idea. I think that is totally RIDICULOUS especially since this place offers craft and project workshops! I did purchase some items that I had seen online and left feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. To make it worse the info I was able to get from the staff was wrong and I had to go back to return some things. I thought I would give it another shot but no help and no direction as to who could help. I even pressed the help button in the aisle and stood there for 5 minutes. No one came and I had to flag down an employee who said she would find someone and then she didn't come back. To you Michaels I say BOOOOOO!!!! read more
