Today around 12 pm. I wanted to know if there was more of an item in stock and could not find a salesperson to help me. I ended up going to the frames desk and the man on the phone asked one of the women in that department to help me. One of them reluctantly walked up and basically rolled her eyes at me very rudely. Then I asked nicely if there was someone who could help me and she, without saying a word to me, picked up the intercom and announced that a salesperson was needed near the frames. She then walked away without acknowledging me one bit. This is never my first, second or third choice Michael's to visit. I don't know what it is about this place, but it's overall just disappointing. 1) There is NEVER anyone around to help. And the associates, who are available, are ALWAYS RUDE! I kindly asked one associates to price check an item and with a gun in her hand, told me I need to check in the front cashier. Excuse me? I am an avid Michael's shopper who purchases over $300+ to this company a month and I KNOW YOU CAN CHECEK WITH YOUR SCANNER GUN. Also, I've bumped into other associates and they don't even ask "Is there anything I can help you look for?" 2) They are always out of stock! I've come here various times and they never seem to stock there items. 3) Not shopper friendly, items are always in the wrong place, so you're idea of home much an item cost, usually isn't what it cost, once you get to the register, because once again, ' It was in the wrong place." I would have to say this is a great place, but I would not want to give anybody a false impression of what I am saying. Each time I walk in to this Micheal's I have a feeling I just walked in to a junk yard sale, it looks like the place has been ransacked by a herd of wild kids. That is just the front of the store, once you get pass that you will notice that everything is kept up and clean. Sometime the customer service is hit or miss, if there is one thing that needs to be changed is the customer service and being more consistent with it. I have needed some supplied for science projects and each time I have been able to find what I am looking for, but still I have to do it on my own, and without any assistance from the staff here, of course if I could find anybody working on the sales floor I am sure I would have asked for assistance. Overall if you are working on a craft or science project, I am sure you could find what you are looking for here, just make a note that if you are looking for somebody to help you, you might be looking harder for the employee here that what you are actually looking for. read more

Not organized at all. There are huge areas where the item will be sold out so I can never get exactly what I came for. But I still always go here if I ever need art or craft materials and can find something good to use even if it's not what I had wanted at first. There were huge sales on Christmas items. 80% off! Only 3 days after. Pretty cool. Anyhow, I came for some yarn and I left with 3 different colors so I was satisfied. But a little cleaning up wouldn't hurt... read more

Michaels - Arts & Crafts Near Me - San Jose, California

I have had 3 major art works re-framed in the Michaels at Blossom Hill and Kooser and the framing job was SUPERB. These were difficult jobs as two were large 30 yr old Chinese lithographs and required reframing. The restoration museum quality framing was done in an excellent manner including the matting and gold frames. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend the Michaels for anyone who has a framing requirement to go in and speak with KAT or any other employee in the framing shop. Keep up the good work. This review is for Cat in the framing department. I needed a custom mat made. I pushed the "get help" button and Cat was at the counter in 30 seconds. She helped me design a double mat. This used to be a pretty good place, but it seems to have gone downhill lately. It's kind of disorganized and doesn't have a very good selection--especially as far as art supplies, such as paints and brushes go. The thing that frustrates me the most though, is that no matter how many people are in line, there is only one cashier (at least, on weekdays). It's annoying to see a bunch of employees hanging around doing everything BUT operating a cash register. I could handle the disorganization, but having to wait so long to purchase something is a pain. I've been going to Aaron Brothers more and more for my art needs and I guess I will continue to do so until Michael's becomes more customer-service oriented. read more

I was searching everywhere for an item and there wasn't a single team member anywhere to help. Finally, I was able to ask someone...who had to ask someone else...and she just walked by and said "nope don't have it"..without even looking it up or asking exactly what I was looking for. This is a review for the framing department. I had a custom frame ordered. It was a large piece. Around the day it was ready, I had called to pick it up and they said that it was almost done. When I went into the store, there was mass confusion and in fact it was not done. In addition, they now said that the frame wouldn't work, etc. There was about 2-3 weeks of waiting and going back and forth. I would have given this place 2 stars but the framing manager Josh was very cool and nice about the whole thing. On the flip side, we had another custom frame job done there and they did a great job of communicating delays and did a good job with the frame. I think that if you have a regular sized order, go for it. If anything is super large then you may have to go elsewhere. read more

What a joke! I looked at the ad and I go in to buy things that they have there supposed to be a sale 40% off 20% off 50% off different things. Then when I get up to the register I find out that there's all these restrictions. Actually there's very few things that you can use with the coupon and what a joke they're just trying to get you in the store. Goodbye Michael's! Compared to other michaels locations, this is a s**t show. I had to walk up and down the aisles to find one item. The paint for example was in 4 different places and Xmas decorations were scattered across the store on random shelves. Ended up leaving for the Campbell location. read more

So this place needs a blended total score ... 4 stars: This location always is well stocked, with plenty of choice, and only rarely are items totally sold out (versus other locations which either don't have as many choices, or whole swaths of the shelves are empty). 3 stars: The staff are usually friendly, but somewhat hard to find when you have a question about what product to use, or where to find what you're looking for. That said, when I do track someone down, they usually know where to find it, or what's the best product to use, or even if there's a better option to be bought at a hardware store or whatever. 3 stars: Parking can be difficult to find at times - which makes sense during the farmer's market hours, but I'm not sure why other random times the lot is packed. So yah can be frustrating, especially when I need a fast "run in and get X to finish my project" parking space. 1 star: It seems like every other time I go here (especially on weekends) there aren't enough people manning the registers, which means the line to purchase is long. Add to that the fact that I have to watch things ring up carefully because often sale items don't ring up as on sale, or items don't scan at the price marked on the shelf - it makes the actual "paying them my money" part of the equation frustrating. So I'll give this place 3 stars overall. Actually I'd probably give it a 3.5 stars if I could, but I don't feel it's quite up to a 4 what with the time I burn standing in line and then waiting while they fix my register receipt when I catch stuff ringing up wrong. read more

As a male, writing a review of a place like this is an instant sentence to a label of metrosexuality at the very least. You know what? I don't care! I like having my wife come home to a nice framed piece from our honeymoon, or an assortment of silk flowers on the kitchen table. It makes our house a home as the old saying goes. Clean and easy to navigate, with helpful staff. Can't say that much for the regular clientele who seem to always been in desperate hurry and have no problem saying so. "Oh, you need to get over to AVAC or else you are going to miss your rendezvous with the trainer in the jacuzzi?" TOUGH. I swear, that is almost verbatim from an incident I had there a year or so ago. So, go enjoy the potential for making your place cozy and inviting for the holidays. Just beware the grinches who will make you wait ten minutes while they hassle the clerks about the expired coupon that they have to have honored. Heaven forbid. read more

This review is for the framing department only. I can't speak about the customer service concerning the rest of the store. A little while ago, I had a special piece that my Grand-Uncle painted framed. Jill, the framer who helped me, was a delight. She knowledgeably guided me through the framing process as I had never had anything custom framed before and I was in over my head. Jill took the time to explain the promotion that was running and proceeded to tell me the benefits of custom framing and the different selections of frame and glass quality that could fit in to my budget while still preserving and showing off the piece. My piece was completed on schedule during peak season (which, I'm sure is hard to do) and I couldn't be happier with the results. The frame and glass she helped me pick out perfectly highlight the beauty of the painting and the workmanship was clearly well done. When I picked up the piece, Jill was there and I was pleasantly surprised as she clearly recalled interacting with me and we continued our previous discussion without missing a beat (which, after two weeks is impressive). read more

This Michaels is located behind Orchard Supply Hardware, car park is large, parking is a little strange as you park at 45 degrees. Just went in to buy a pencil pouch but couldn't find one. The store seems to have a lot of fake flowers but not much else. For an art and craft store I expected to find this at this store. Michaels is my go to craft item store. They have coupons in the paper every week which make the prices even better. The downside to this particular location is that they always have one or two registers open. This can make waiting in line behind 5 or 6 people painful. Wow. I came back to make a return and had the absolute worst experience of my life here. This review is not just to vent my frustrations, this is a caution for those who may have to make a return to this establishment. I walked up the counter and the checker (pretty sure the manager) didn't even ask me what was wrong with the item before she scoffed at the open box, waving my receipt around babbling about return policy and that they only take defective items back! (no I'm not exaggerating). She saw another return to Joannes in my bag and very curtly said "um, that's j-o-a-n-n-e-s!" :: sigh:: I KNOW! I immediately saw how this was going to go. I tried to politely explain to her that it was defective but she completely cut me off to yell at an employee "how many times do I have to tell you to JUST LEAVE", when doing so would leave her the only checker with fifteen people in line. The other checker politely replied "I didnt want to leave you alone" when she retorted "oh any by the way doing 'this and that' is cited as grounds for termination so go sign your papers!" WHAT?!? Why is 90% of your attention on your other employee? Those matters are things that need to be addressed of in your office, NOT in the checkout line when your attention should be focused on your customer. It is completely inappropriate to ignore everything I'm saying and then accuse me of violating your return policies, when you aren't even taking the time to listen to my answer to your question. I continued to try to politely reiterate that the item was defective when she scoffed rudely "I don't have time to argue with a customer, it's just one of those days." I don't care if it's one of those days. As a paying customer I do not deserve to take the wrath for your bad day. As another human being, I do not deserve to take the wrath of YOUR bad day. Common courtesy for interacting with the general public as a business or as a customer. My issue is that this manager didn't want to take back a product that didn't work as it stated. Well if it doesn't work the way it says it should on the packaging then its defective! Consider carrying products that work or at the very least taking care of your loyal customers. She continued to huff and puff at me while not paying any attention TO ME so I took the item in my hand, slid it across the counter to her and said "COUGH COUGH (pay attention to me) FINE, use this item and show me it's not defective." She ignored me and started the return. I spent $450 in the last three days at your store, TWO items didn't work and you make it hell for me to return?! On top of that, you intentionally take out your grief in a loud manner on a customer in front of 15 people in line? I'm lucky I've had experience with intimidating and overbearing people like this manager so it's not embarrassing to stick up for myself when I know I'm right as a customer. I don't understand how people with customer service skills like that even get to a managerial position. I pride myself on providing excellent customer service to my clients and I do not tolerate anything less than excellent customer service in return. Many times I let things slide because I know people have bad days, I can at least empathize with that. I make it a point to see it from the flip side before I open my mouth. What I cannot excuse is treatment of the caliber that I just received. I will not shop at this store unless I absolutely have to but from now on I will be driving across town to a different Michaels. read more

The entire staff should take an intense course on customer service, because it seems like everyone that works there hates their job and it shows. I was interested in some charcoal pencils but I couldn't find any so I asked an employee. She informed me where the pencils would be so I headed towards that aisle. After 5 minutes of looking in the wrong aisle(which is my fault: Bad sense of direction, I blame biology) I go back to the same employee and ask her specifically where the pencils would be. She started to get annoyed and walked to me to that aisle and started pointing at the pencils and condescendingly said the pencils are here. Of course, I said thank you and she just walks away and ignores me as if she did me a favor. Second encounter, I walk towards checkout. There are three employees at the registers and I have a good amount of drawing supplies in my hand and I stand in line(I am the only person in line by the way). Crickets. No one says anything to me for 3 minutes and then I said I was ready to check out. As one of the employee shows me to her register, she is simultaneously talking to her coworker about a party the previous night as if I'm not standing right there. This is probably going to be a last resort store. read more

i go to this location because they are super close to my house, not because i like them. there is almost always a long line, and they are sloooooowwww. once in awhile they are friendly, but not usually. i don't understand why they have so many employees wandering around, but rarely more than one of them checking people out. they also seem to like rearranging the layout, which is annoying - it never helps. read more

Extremely poor sense of urgency when assisting guests at the register. Came in about an hour ago, and waited close to 30 minutes in line for Virginia to ring up 2 customers. My transaction took longer than it should have, as she was reading a magazine at the register while ringing me up. She's a nice lady, but this was very unprofessional. Another employee walked by to place something on the other registers, saw the line growing longer, and never called for a second cashier. A second register was not opened up until after I was done checking out, when the line had quite a few people in it by that point. I'm not usually one to be impatient, but I was very disappointed by this visit and the lack of urgency to open up a second register. read more

I stood in line for a good 5 mins waiting to pay while the woman she helped went back to grab a few items & Rita never called another cashier to help me. This is my neighborhood store that I've been going to since I was a kid. I'm not a regular but I've been here numerous times for everything from school projects to scrapbook materials to holiday decor. Long story short, last night I had an issue with a cashier ringing up an item 3 times. I had to go back to her register twice to get the issue resolved. I was calm and there was no line behind me. She admitted to making a mistake but said the items had been voided. I start walking away and I'm still not convinced the receipt matches what she told me. I get to my car and total the items and it was incorrect. I go back to her register for a 2nd time and say that it is still wrong. She starts trying to add 10 items together in her head so I type it into my cell phone, thinking that I'm being helpful. The cashier stops and says, "You don't need to do this for me sweetie" in a condescending voice. Now I'm furious that the situation has gotten to this point. She voids the transaction and then rings it up correctly for me. I did not ask to speak to a manager at the time because I just wanted to leave the store. Working in retail management in the past, I left feedback from the survey on my receipt. Management will not know about the situation if you don't say anything. The store manager called me this morning to apologize. She wanted to get more information so that she could coach the cashier on what to do differently. I loved the way she handled the situation and more importantly that she is going to prevent this from happening to another customer. I will be back to this store because of Britney's phone call but I hope that this seasonal cashier is not there. I took a scrape booking class (8 hours for $25.00) at Michael's on Kooser Ave in November. The instructor for the class is SUSAN. Her talent is apparent immediately. She is a fabulous instructor. Very organized and so knowledgable about scrapebooking. Her enthusiasm for scrapebooking was contageous. I was able to complete my very first album for my mother's 90th birthday. It turned out awesome. I learned so much about scrapebooking in those 8 hours. read more

PROTIP: if you need to use the bathroom and can't find an associate, go to the spray paint section ( near frames, bathroom, and painting supplies ) and press the red button. It is to call an associate to come opem the cage to the paint. Just tell them you really have to use the bathroom and they most likley open it! It is always organized but I feel like their shelves could be better stocked; sometimes I am looking for particular things and THAT item will not be there.
