This review is specifically for Kara, one of the associates there. She is amazing! Every time I have been to that store recently (I'm from out of town but visit my mother frequently), I have experienced Kara. She should be teaching a master class on customer service. I'm a gen xer & remember decent customer service from yesteryear that seems like a thing of the past, but she has surpassed anything I have experienced. As soon as we walked in the door, she was passing by in the midst of her work and greeted us, and then asked if we needed help finding anything in particular. Every time I saw her in the store, she was so busy helping others or working with inventory when she wasn't tending to customers. She seemed to be aware of what was happening around her at all times and so attentive. I was very impressed with her, thinking she's the employee of a lifetime. She seemed to put all of herself into her job. She's unlike any store employee I've ever encountered and as I stated, really made an impression on me. Then I asked her if they have fabric because my store up North has a small selection. She said they don't currently have fabric but went above & beyond by letting me know which nearby stores would carry fabric. I felt like the 1939 Miracle on 34th Street movie when Santa referred a customer to Gimbals when Macy's didn't have what she was looking for. The next time I went there was for a curbside pickup order. I was expecting the usual lengthy wait and me having to call the store. She came out with my order like a minute later and again left me feeling that she was so engaging and professional. I had to check her name tag to leave a review. I'm the sort who isn't motivated to leave a review unless I have an exceptionally good or bad experience and Kara is without doubt the best in customer service experience I've ever had. She is hard working and helpful and in a league of her own. My usual Michaels experience is not being acknowledged by employees until I get to the checkout and get the impression I am imposing if I have to ask a question, so Kara truly stands out as exceptional. Her people skills and work ethic make me think that she would put all of herself into any job and be good at it and that if I were ever starting a business, I would want to hire her because she's a huge asset. She makes a huge difference there. read more

I try to buy Patons wool yarn online to take advantage of the "buy one get 50% of the second one. The website only allow me to add one. So drove to the store and found 2 skins. I went to the cashier Michelle (dark hair) and explained what happened. She let me know that the website would not allow to sell all of their inventory. She called someone, who was supposed to come and help. Nobody came. After what it seemed to be a long time. Michelle came back and let me know once again that I couldn't add the second one because there were only two left. I replied you said that. There's a serious lack of pictures in this store. Not sure why that is. Usually if I want to find things like pictures, one of the first places I go is Michael's. We ended up going to HomeGoods and found some of what we needed. I miss the giant Michael stores in Texas, seems like they had almost everything, especially a large variety of pictures and other things to hang on the wall like clocks and such. This store called me yesterday to let me know that they apparently allowed a random person to walk out with my order. This someone who left with my order was clearly neither the primary (as documented) nor the alternate (also as documented) for the store pickup order that I had already paid for and completed in all details. Why did the store not check that a random person was walking out with my order? The person on the phone said they're 'not sure what happened.' Now they tell me that I am supposed to go in in person with my credit card that I used for the purchase in order to even get a refund. So: I not only don't receive the order I already completed the purchase of. They lost my order. And they won't replace it. But furthermore, they insist that I pay with my time, energy, fuel, and effort in order to even get a refund. I pay for their incompetence. Never ordering at this store again. My wife and I had a piece of art that we needed to get re-matted and framed. The original matting was too stark and detracted from the beauty and simplicity of the watercolor painting. We met and were helped in the Custom Framing department by Rebekah, the framing professional, who immediately addressed our needs. She was friendly and patient, and was extremely helpful in assisting us in making a decision on both the matting and new frame. She proved to have a fine "artistic eye", working with us to select matting in a color that truly brought out the various tones in the painting. Additionally, her suggestion of a particular frame to pull the whole piece together was spot-on. We left the project in her hands, and it was completed within one day --- and looks marvelous. It was nice working with someone who truly "knows her stuff" and serves as a fine representative of the Michael's staff. The line got longer and longer, and we realized that there was ABSOLUTELY NOBODY THERE TO HELP US. No cashier at all at the check stand. Went to pick up my curb side order today . My mom called for me so I could look up my order #'s . Long story short, guy says we cant look up by last name and when my moms about to give the order #'s he rudely says I'll just figure it out and hangs up. I get home and excitedly open my acrylic spray they gave me and its matte...when it clearly says in the order gloss.(Also had a unfriendly experiance with a female over the phone when asking for the acrylic spray. Since it doesnt specify matt or gloss online. She had to give me a code for it. Felt I was bothersome to her.) I understand they are busy but you cant get one item correct and your employees are very short toned and make you feel not valued? It was rough already coming in that store and most of the time not finding help now it's like were bothering them on the phone wish I would have had better customer service . wasn't aware they no longer take coupons in store, but you can use them for online purchases (curbside pick up or in store pick up). ordered the frame i wanted online while standing there and asked if i could wait to "pick it up." was told it take 5-7 mins to go thru their systems. awesome! a few mins later received a text that my item was ready. the associate who handed it to me told me in the future i need to order ahead of time and wait like everyone else and that she pushed my order thru in front of everyone else's. well had you accepted the coupon in store there would have been no issue with me purchasing the item right there. seems super sketch that you'll take all my money in store, but give me a discount if i order online and make you do more work to get my items and then carry them out to me. read more

I enjoy this Michaels a lot. All the employees are really great and I come here a lot since my kids have school projects and I pick up yarn and circuit materials. Most items are in stock here than other michaels stores I've been to. If you ask an employee, they always know where the item is located or if they have it in different colors. Very friendly staff, and they are always stocking the store. This store isn't as crowded as the Poway location, which I enjoy. Overall a good arts and crafts store, with knowledgeable employees. read more

I went to Michael's and needed a lot of help. I found Jasmine, who was the same girl who greeted me, and she took me on an adventure around the whole store, finding everything that I needed. She went above and beyond, trying her hardest to get me everything that I came in for. She even got me to get supplies I didn't know I needed. A big 5-star rating for Maria in Custom Framing. She is so good that I followed her from her previous location in El Cajon. I'll drive out of my way to go to Santee, and I will call first to see if Maria is there: she is THAT good. Maria has a tremendous eye for color, and wonderful sense of aesthetics. To top it off, she is so warm, kind, helpful. She is also a free-lance artist and today I saw a couple of her pieces on display...very nice! Two other girls, Chelsea & Cheryl, were helpful in giving Maria ideas and the three of them brought together a very nice set of 3 mats to use for framing a print we bought in Maui. The finished product is STUNNING and I smile every time I walk by it! Be sure to watch the Michaels ads in the paper (or their web site) for specials...I managed to get 60% off today. Still not cheap (it was an oversized print) but can't imagine paying full price! read more

I was attempting to call the store to get information about an item I wanted to purchase. When prompted to press number three to speak with a representative I did so. Four different times. And four different times they hung up. This is just terrible customer service. The corona outbreak will only last during the flu season and it will return again next year. However I will never shop at Michaels again. there are other stores around that supply the same thing that Michael supplies and they did answer their phones. read more

I went into Michaels the other day searching supplies for multiple projects. After making the purchase, I realized I forgot to show the cashier the 20% coupon I had on my phone. I looked back at the line and was dreading waiting in the long line to get a refund and repurchase. I asked a wonderful employee, Kim, if I could just come back another day with just the receipt and get a refund then. She let me know that I would have to bring the products back but told me not to worry and took me to a register and took care of the issue for me so I wouldn't have to wait in line again. I shop at this Michaels often for craft supplies and I am always greeted or either asked if there is something I need help with. When I ask for help, the employees always take the time to walk me to the aisle or product I am searching for. I didn't get the name of the kind employee from this morning 12/5/2021 who stepped down from the top of the ladder to walk me to the other end of the store to help me find the last bag of snow that she remembered was still on stock. Also the employee from 12/4/2021 evening who was helping another customer and noticed I had a question, but I walked away because I saw what I was looking for. She took the time to find me and asked if I needed help or had a question. Don't try to enter the store with 20 mins still until closing. Although that's enough time for you to grab something and checkout quickly, you will notice a staff that is annoyed you arrived. They are too focused on their "go backs" and shutting the music off to let you know it's closing time.. almost. Not to mention they pull all the bins and giant fixtures in from the sidewalk and block the front inside of the store so you can barely walk out. I guess in Santee, 8:40pm is the new 9:00. Change your hours to 8:40 if you gotta close by then. That's an easy and quick $50-$60 purchase they let get away. read more

I came here on a Saturday afternoon and not surprisingly it was pretty busy. I was looking for easy craft items I could do with an out of state friend's children over FaceTime. I was super happy to see a whole Disney Princess section and got us some sun catchers. In addition to this, there are baking, scrap booking, knitting, painting, drawing, jewelry making sections and more. Pretty much everything you need craft wise can be found here. They also have a ton of price points. There are expensive items but there are generally also cheaper items that are similar to the expensive ones. This location is very convenient being near so many other stores and plazas. Parking is also a breeze as the plaza is pretty large. This store itself is one of the smaller ones I have been to but they do have a lot to offer! read more

Your bin shows one price, but then the item scans for twice as much. And what you end up telling me is that "tag doesn't belong there". No dear, you're just scamming people to buy items for the regular price as opposed to the discounted one, without telling us, because not a lot of us are checking prices during checkout. This is the second day in a row I've had a bad experience at this Michaels. Yesterday, I could not find what I was looking for, as I am new to crafting, and I could not find a single salesperson on the floor. I went to the front counter to ask a cashier for assistance. All cashiers were busy, but I just needed to ask where one thing was. I was told that I would need to stand in line to ask a question. The line was heading toward the back of the store! Why would I stand in line to ask a question and then again to actually buy something? And she was quite rude. Today, I wandered around the store for probably 20 minutes, still no salesperson on the floor, only 2 cashiers open, not too busy. I finally found sort of what I was looking for after 20 minutes. This location is quite messy and grungy looking compared to my usual Michaels in La Mesa. After the guy at the La Mesa location would not let me use the coupon on my phone for 2 different people, I came here to use the coupon. I was looking for a nice set of alphabet stamps to make jewelry cards to display my jewelry. I found the exact set I needed plus a smaller set for stamping my website on the back. They were each around $10, and I was skeptical if they would let me use my mobile coupon here since you can only use it once a day... But by some kind of miracle the stamps I was getting were the "sale item of the day" at this location. WOO HOO! It made my day. I got everything I needed that day on sale at 50% off plus I racked up a LOT of receipt coupons in all my transactions. YAY. This location might have received 3 stars if it had not been for the joy I experienced from my luck in finding the store sale but I am blinded by excitement. read more

I very happy with that I got a huge discount on my purchase with a rewards voucher and coupons, however I can only give 3 stars because cashier Emilia does not understand how the digital rewards card, coupons, and vouchers work. She has insisted twice now that I need to put in my phone number before she can scan anything off my phone. The first time I went along with it but my number didn't go through and I had to argue with her to get her to just scan my phone. I almost gave up and left without the items I needed. Today she said she needed me to put in my phone number. She'll probably remember as the rude woman you snapped "no you don't, we went through this last time" and made her scan the barcode off my phone. I then had to keep reminding her to scan the voucher and coupons. Other cashiers are competent, it's only Emilia that I've ever had a problem with. From now on I'll avoid getting checked out by Emilia, even if it means leaving the store without buying anything. read more
