Since my last review in 2013, this has been by go to for fresh shrimp and occasionally crabmeat for several years. The prices are good. The seafood is fresh. The place is the no frills type of seafood mart I grew up with so don't expect anything fancy. They have freezers inside where you can buy fish and other items. If you're buying the shrimp, you pay inside and then show the guy outside your receipt and bags your shrimp from an ice chest. The parking lot gets chaotic during busy times since there are no stripes and it's every vehicle deciding what's logical. read more

Initially, I stopped in for shrimp some time ago, but then as of late, I've returned for Crawfish & I've not been disappointed yet. 10lbs or more and you have a discounted price on the mud bugs. Was scammed!!! Was told shrimp was 16/20. Bought 25# for $3.50 and got maybe 60/70. Was shown 16/20 in ice chest but they boxed it up in the back and brought it to my car. I will never go back there. read more

Boiled crawfish is not great but good enough when options are limited. Usually hot and the sizes are good, not super flavorful but not the worse either. Friendly service, parking is limited though. My biggest complaint is--you pay for 10lbs of booked crawfish but in reality, you're getting about 8, because the rest is trash...lemon peels, celery, etc. And I've mentioned it nicely, but it doesn't help. This is my 3rd time here, and man I'm telling you these folks have some of the best tasting Crawfish in this city. I should also mention they are cheaper by as much as a dollar a pound. Crawfish are plentiful right now and most places are charging over $4.00 a pound. That is Highway robbery for Crawfish. There in one place on Chef Hwy. charging over $5.00 a pound. That is absolutly crazy. But I digress, Michael's is the real deal. If I'm willing to drive from the other side of town 10 pounds minimum is in order. When I got them home they went like wild fire. I was left wondering why I didn't get more. $3.24 was the price today which is reasonable compared to the others. Top of my list now. read more

Crawfish boil was not made to order. It's precooked, placed in a clear bucket and scooped out when ready to be sold. It was cold as well. When I dumped out into a larger bowl, I noticed there were celery, garlic gloves and round onions (cut in half) which was charged to me in the weight. All of that "extra" boil stuff should have been taken out before weighing. It weighed at least a pound. Considering I paid $3.59 a pound, I should have to pay for theses garnish. Crawfish is soft. Has decent flavoring to it but I am paying for live boiled crawfish during crawfish season...no frozen crawfish. Thanks but no thanks. I gave two stars for the flavor but that's it. read more

If you are looking for well seasoned, juicy, boiled seafood at an extremely competitive price, Michael's is that place you have been looking for. They had a very well seasoned taste but weren't overly spiced. Probably my only complaints would be all the lemon slices mixed with the crawfish to make the crawfish weigh more on the scale. It would be fine if it was like 1-2 slices but it was like 10 thick slices mixed in 4 pounds of crawfish. My only other disappointment was that they were sold out for the day at 4pm. I may have gotten that many lemons only because it was the bottom of the pot but not sure. I'll certainly be back, especially because the quality and price are a good combo! read more

I often stop at Micahel's for fresh shrimp, best prices in town. I ordered a mini sack of oysters on Friday, Nov 26th to grill Saturday evening for family. The oysters were nice size however when I shucked the oysters 85% of the oysters were dried up and shriveled, the other 15% were nice size and salty. I checked the tag on the sack to see when they were harvested, this sack was harvested 11/16/2022, 10 days old. ALWAYS check the date harvested before leaving the store, more than 4 days don't buy them. read more

I am highly disappointed with this business. We called on a Wednesday to place an order for 2 sacks of live crawfish for my birthday on a Thursday (today). We were told we didn't need to place an order and that they would have the crawfish. We said we'd see them at 2 PM today. We arrive and are told, "Oops, we had a large order and don't have any today." We explained to them that THEY told us we didn't need to get on a list or anything. They just said there was nothing they could do. I will NEVER use this unprofessional business and I will make sure my friends and family know not to trust them or any of their business practices. In the greater New Orleans area , this place will just about always have the cheapest prices along with some of the best quality , crawfish are always clean and fat and the service is fast. I am so disappointed in Michael's. I live around the corner and go there all of the time. I went there the Saturday before last to order crawfish for Good Friday. The girl told me they were not taking orders until today, 3/22/16. I called today and they aren't taking orders any more. The girl told me that so many people wanted to place orders that they started last Tuesday. WTH. I told her I tried to make an order the Saturday before. She said so many people wanted to place orders that they started taking orders last Tuesday, March 15, 2016, and now they are not any more because they have to wait to see what the fishermen get now. OK I know what you are thinking, "This place has pretty good boiled seafood. Why did you rate it so low?" Well to answer that question let me say that I like Micheal, but to cancel reservations for crawfish that were made well in advance is not the best for business. Also I might add that historically I boil somewhere around 1500-2000 lbs of crawfish a year. I would love for Michaels to be the place to sell me those crawfish, but he hasn't really put much effort into earning my business. Plus on occasion he doesn't go to the docks everyday to get fresh crawfish. As a result I have been sold sacks of crawfish that had quite a few with straight tails if you know what I mean. I just would like to think at the very least that if you were going to sell someone old crawfish you would at least care enough to open the bag and sort out the casualties (not to mention all the debris, sticks, and fish heads which were used as bait by the crawfishers). In short I like Michael's better than some businesses which are right down the highway, but not nearly as much as a few places. Michael's is however a fine place to buy boiled crawfish if that is what you are looking for. read more

I would definitely recommend Michael to anyone who wants to buy fresh, raw shrimp. 5 pounds of shrimp was less than $18. Also, they were careful to throw out broken bits and pieces and only give us really good shrimp! read more
