This was the first time I had been to Michaels, which was a bit overwhelming and had no idea where anything was. I asked a salesclerk and she didn't know either nor did she try to help. She just pointed and said, "I think." It wasn't that busy; however, all the salesclerks didn't bother to ask if I needed help as it was obvious I didn't know where to find things and they were too busy on their phones. POOR customer service. Frustrated, I was walking all over the store trying to find what I was looking for. Luckly, this one very nice salesclerk noticed I was overwhelmed and asked to help me. I love Michaels! It's one of those stores that instantly makes me want to start a new craft project, even when I don't need anything. I really wanted to love this location, but a lot of the aisles were 100% empty and a bunch of items I came for were out of stock. It's also (unfortunately) the most cluttered and chaotic Michaels I've ever been to haha. It wasn't a huuuge deal, but it did make the shopping trip feel a little less magical than usual. That said, the stuff they did have was amazing as always. I found this ridiculously cute tomato-shaped container that I decided to repurpose for my bathroom (because why not). The best part - it ended up being 50% off at checkout, and I didn't even know until I was checking out. Little surprises like that totally make my day. Also, the parking here was super easy! Plenty of open spots right by the entrance, which is always nice when you're hauling around big craft bags or canvases. All in all, good stuff - great value for my tomato jar (only 9.99) and I got to get out of the house. read more

They had a basket of stuff clearly marked $1 clearance so I picked it out but it was full price. This was NOT a mistake. In fact there were TWO bins of the same thing within eyesight of the cashier that had the same thing. They both said $1 clearance. I pointed this out. To make it worse the line grew behind me. It was so embarrassing. They had to call a manager to fix it. Unacceptable. This should be considered fraud. read more

An item was one price on the shelf then another during checkout. The manager did not fix the problem and didn't even come to look at the price (had to take a photo). This Michaels has big problems: many boxes littering the floors and aisles, out of stock shelves everywhere, items show prices different from what's rung up, long, long line at the cutting table, long, loneg line at checkout, really messy shelves everywhere, evidence of understaffing everywhere, some floor staff have ear buds in and are unresponsive, floor staff is cranky. I can understand staff being cranky given the understaffing and state of the store. Major kudos, however, to the wonderful, young man (tall, slim, light hair) at the cash register that takes cash: he was grace under pressure personified. If everyone was like him the world would be a better place. Sad to say I won't get a chance to be served by him, again, as I'll return to the Kirkland Micheals instead of Interbay. read more

Do not sign up for any art classes here. We signed up for a friendship bracelet making class and my 4 year old was so excited. She got there on time for the class. The employees and manager kept asking ys to wait. My 4 year old was waiting there for an hour and everyone was fed up with waiting. They then offered to set up the craft table and thought it was all going great since they offered to set up the table 1 hour later. We ended up buying some beads and made bracelets at home. Perhaps they were never planning to host any classes and this is a tactic to get people to store to buy things Such a disappointing experience. read more

I checked in for curb side pick up and waited for 20 minutes for my order, no one ever came with it. I then went inside and waited in line and was told to go check the order pick up spot for my order while they called for assistance. My order was not there and I waited another 20 minutes for help to arrive. When some eventually arrived to help she was dismissive and condescending. I've never had a retail experience go so shockingly bad. I can't imagine ever going back here. read more

I'm not the most artsy person but Michael's gives me the inspiration to try. I started shopping at Michael's years ago when I attempted to fill a vase or two with silk flowers. And then it became my go-to for cakeball ingredients. So many colors of melting chocolate, sprinkles, and decorating frosting to try! Then one day I ran across wine glass charms and decided that I absolutely had to try making some. I think I spent 40 minutes perusing different styles and colors of beads and little charms to add. That was fun and made me want to take on even more artistic endeavors. Michael's also became my favorite source for gift-storage items like treat bags, jars, wrapping paper, and seasonal decor. They even do custom picture framing. This place has it all! Whether you're an artsy novice like me or are more experienced in artistic areas, Michael's has a LOT to offer and I'm sure you'll find inspiration. read more

Ever since my daughter and now my son have explored the creative side .. our visit is minimum twice a month. For more than a year my husband is the one who picks and chooses art, paper, canvases, colors and what not .. he loves the creativity solutions this place provides . Oh this was just about what all Michaels did to our senses .. but Interbay Michaels has amazing customer service and also they have pamphlets to inform when their I house creative classes are held . I will never shop at Michaels again. I have buying art supplies there for more than a dozen years. I went there regularly with my mother before she passed to keep her supplied with the pens and things that kept her busy in her later years. Today was a complete surprise, though. I found the items I wanted and went to the check out area. There were people using the self-checkout machines so I waited until they were finished. The employee who had been watching them made no offer to assist me, so I asked if she would open a register for me. She replied that Michaels was currently only doing self-checkout. I asked her again if she would open a register for my purchases. No. She was doing nothing else but refused to help me. I finally just left the things on the counter and left. The employee was extremely rude, not offering any assistance of any kind. There is nothing at Michaels that I cannot get elsewhere, and believe me I will go elsewhere. I went to another store where the employees were very polite, and the items even cost less. read more

Tl;dr: Great, well stocked location with helpful employees. Awesome custom framing. Ignore reviews from when they first opened in August 2018. Building/Location: The location is super convenient. It's a brand new shopping center that they're still in the process of developing right off of 15th on old BNSF land. It's a block away from Whole Foods, and shares a parking lot with Total Wine. Considering the lack of craft stores in Seattle, I think it's a great location. Short drive from most neighborhoods, and plenty of parking. Given that the building is brand new, it's basically flawless. It's large with plenty of stock, and the classroom looks amazing (though I haven't taken any classes yet). Yarn: I crochet, and buy most of my yarn here. They have a great selection, even just compared to some Michael's I've been to in the area. The different sections are always fully stocked, and I've never had any issues finding what I need/want. In general, Michael's always has sales and good coupons out so pricing is more than competitive. Framing: I have had two pieces custom framed at this location, a large map and a diploma. Shannon and Luke helped me pick out frames, mats, etc. and Cassandra helped answer some questions I had after I'd purchased. They both have excellent minds for color and design, and were very attentive to what direction I wanted to go in. Michael's custom framing has hundreds of mat options and dozens of frames to choose between, and since absorbing Aaron Brothers I think even just their prefab frame selection has improved. For custom framing, they have large sales every few months that can net you up to 70% off, making it VERY worth it. Quality of the craftsmanship for both the diploma and my map have been great, which was a relief given that the map is roughly 4x3 ft. For Christmas 2018 I had the U of O reprint my dad's diploma (he lost his years ago) and Luke helped me to put together a frame and 'look' that made it a very special present. He knew I wanted a classic look due to my dad's tastes, but also had the great idea to throw in a thin (green) suede mat to modernize it. He also thought to use a metallic light gold instead of U of O's bright yellow, which matched the seal perfectly. I also appreciate that he and Shannon had no issues working within a given budget, and didn't show me frames that would have been outside of it. They finished assembling my frame several days before they told me it would be ready, which was great with the 'Christmas crunch.' For lack of a better way to phrase it, I trust them, which can be huge with sentimental pieces. Addressing some of the earlier reviews: The location opened in August 2018, and with any store opening there are going to be some kinks to work out. As somebody who lives in Queen Anne and has visited this store maybe 2-5x per month since it opened, I would say that the employees have definitely settled into the groove of things and ironed out any issues. There are always several employees out on the sales floor, who in my experience have been friendly and knowledgeable about the stock. In the event they didn't know where something was, they were great about looking it up and going to find it with me. I'm not discounting anyone's prior experiences, but as for my own, I have been very happy with the people who work here. read more

This store does not have fabric by the bolt. They do have a small section of fabric pieces in 18 x 21 singles or bundles. They also do not stock zippers. While their sewing selection is limited, what they do have is organized and the store is clean. Shelves were well-stocked. Contrary to other reviewers' experiences, I found the staff members to be helpful and friendly. The parking lot pavement is very uneven. If you drive a lowered car, you should park in the outer areas away from the front door. read more

I'm super happy that I finally found out about this Michael's location. It's so convenient for me! We recently stopped by to get some light up display boxes because they had the perfect ones. The store was easy to get to with lots of parking. It was clean, bright, and organized. And maybe it was the time we went, but it wasn't super-packed either! Service was just okay. I'm not sure why they would match other store prices but not their own online. (Sometimes they price things cheaper online than in store...) Join their club card for a bajillion coupons, too. I come here a lot, and so far, I don't think I've ever seen an employee do anything with any sense of speed or urgency. Even when the line is 8-9 people deep and people are literally dumping the merchandise they were going to buy and leaving, still moving glacially slow. There also only ever seems to be one person on the registers no matter how long the line is... if y'all aren't hiring, I suggest that you do, cause you clearly need more cashiers. read more

I'm so happy this location opened up. I usually have to go out of my way to a craft store, but now I have one accessible near my apartment. Coming to a store like this in general, I already know what I want--it's just a matter of locating it. I've had a pleasant experience with the staff here, I don't go out of my way to talk to them unless I'm checking out. However, when in passing, they're quite friendly and ask me if I need any help. Regardless, don't expect people to bend over backwards for you. The staff is friendly and helpful, but have tasks they must take care of on their shift. The store as a whole is larger compared to other locations. Just like any store, the organization will not be exactly the same but manageable to find what you need. They have all your crafting essentials and more. The app regularly updates calendar events at the store. Always a handful of coupons available to use. This store is worth a shot. It's new and they're still getting the hang of things. I enjoy my experience every time I come, which is quite often since I'm DIYing part of my wedding. read more

When I came in to this location today I overheard a supervisor openly berate an employee. He loudly asked her "why do you leave shit everywhere?" then continued to make incredibly loud and disrespectful comments to this young employee. He said the entire team is annoyed with her, her behavior drives him crazy, and that she can be dirty at home but not at work. If this is how the leadership treats their employees in the middle of the store, I can only imagine what is being said in employee only areas. Incredibly disappointing and disgusting behavior. I won't be returning to someplace where employees are treated with such little respect. read more

The only thing this Michaels has going for it is that it's the only one in town. Noticed multiple very young employees wandering around store seemingly aimlessly. The bead and charm section was woefully empty and picked over; lots of barren empty spaces. I had much difficulty finding anything for my project. Got in line; one cashier, seemingly socializing with a customer/friend during check out. Their check out seemed to take needlessly long; the purchase wasn't very big, and as the line grew to eventually 5 people, the cashier seemed sullen and had no sense of urgency. After finally waiting for what seemed like 15 minutes, the woman in line behind me finally asked the cashier if she could call someone else to the registers. The cashier seemed to resent this but disdainfully called someone else. A second employee arrived and seemed like she had been annoyed by being called. My transaction was extremely quick despite the fact that I had so many items, and yet the individuals who have been lying in front of me were still socializing with the other one cashier. It wasn't a matter of not enough employees. If anything, I would be disturbed by the labor paying for the four kids wandering around doing nothing and the one cashier with no sense of urgency. This seemed like a case of mismanagement or poor management. read more

I was happy to see that Michaels is open in Interbay and dropped by looking for some basic embroidery supplies. What a disappointing experience. The employees were extremely rude and seemed really uninterested in being at work (aren't we all sometimes, but you still have to do your job). Their selection is also really terrible. I didn't find even half of what I was looking for and wasn't looking for anything challenging (plastic embroidery hoops). I'm normally like a kid in a candy store in craft stores, but was hard pressed to buy anything here. read more

Terrible!!! I was so excited for a new Michael's. It's actually pretty gorgeous in there. I went in to get a frame, and found out over the last few days that Aaron Brothers has closed when I tried to visit one. I read online that they were going to open "stores within stores" of Aaron Bros within Michael's. Ok - it is not the same. There is a fine selection- not nearly as good though - and I ended up ordering my frame from amazon. Ok, fine I thought... I'll just get the rest of my stuff I need here. The selection on mats was terrible, the expertise was not the same as Aaron Bros, which added to the frustration. None of this is why I'm writing this review. The employee in the framing department had no customer service skills. She was helping another customer and at no point looked up to acknowledge I was standing there. A simple "hi, I'll be with you shortly" would have been more than fine. I would have settled for brief eye contact!!! Then when I was frustrated, trying to find what I needed (all things that would have been easy to find at Aaron Bros), she had zero empathy for me. Again, a simple "I'm so sorry about that, but here's what we can do here" would have gone a long way. Thankfully I found a wonderful little shop in Ballard named Annie's that had everything I needed --- AND phenomenal customer service. Go there instead! I am only writing this review in hopes that Michaels will use this info to improve some things. I love Michaels in general and am so happy that this one is nearby. If you live in the area you know options are limited and if you wanted to buy craft supplies nearby you had to go to the small Joann Fabrics in Ballard that has parking for 6 cars and limited stock. The sales are great, the store is clean and well-stocked. In general, the staff has been hit or miss, I guess like anywhere else. There is one person however, that has been great and if I can find out her name, I'll update because she deserves some recognition. My big issue is with the classes. Everyone running the classes is completely uninformed about what they are supposed to be teaching, has no crafting experience and acts as though it's an inconvenience to be in the store at all. Crafting is supposed to be something that makes you feel good but the classes have been super uncomfortable because I feel like I'm annoying the staff by showing up. I'm not sure I'll take anymore classes here which is a shame because I was really looking forward to doing this each week.
