OMG this place has the worst customer service. No one wants to do their jobs anymore. I had an entire cart full of items and asked the young lady at the register if she could check me out and she simply said she couldn't that she had to watch out at the front. It was 11 am on a Sunday morning and the store was not crowded. They had self check outs and one register for the representative to use for customer that did not want to use the self checkouts. She just stood backed and watched me as I used the self checkout. Just lazy and ridiculous. On top of that she didn't know anything. A couple customers came in and asked her questions as I completed my purchase and all she could say was I'm not sure or that she didn't know. Where was the manager ughhh. read more

Located in the shopping center on Cumbland Parkway that also features the Petsmart and HomeGoods sits this location of Michaels. Given its placement, parking is never an issue as the shopping center is quite large and features plenty of spots! This Michaels is like many others I have visited over the years, but the glaring difference with this location is the service, specifically the lack of service on the sales floor. I have been here many times and finding someone to ask a question of is near impossible. I have made many laps around the store trying to find someone and weirdly they are not assisting others, they are just not on the floor. I usually have to hit the front register to get someone called to a particular section for assistance. This has been my experience when needing help at the framing center as well. Never anyone staffed, so always have to request and wait. In addition the service, the store seems to be a little disheveled. I know it is in a prime location and foot traffic is heavy, but it always seems like a small tornado has come through and thrashed the merchandise and floor settings. Overall, I come to Michael's for very specific things from time to time and while this isn't the most fantastic Michael's I have been to, it carries what I need in those times and so when in need in the future, I will pop back in! read more

Previously had decent experiences at this Michael's. However, my experience today warranted a review. My partner and I were followed around the store for no reason. We were on a mission to find the perfect frame and went straight to that section. We didn't even touch any merchandise or do anything "suspicious", we were just looking at various frames across the couple of aisles. Super disheartening! At first we didn't think anything of it, but we started to get the picture after being followed into yet another aisle. Please don't profile your customers. read more

For the record - I have loved shopping at Michaels. It has been my go-to craft store for years. However... Over the last few years, as fads have come & gone, the buyer for this particular store has repeatedly sacrificed the supplies that I tend to buy (yarn, beads, paint) in favor of the latest trend - giving up shelf space and even entire rows of materials to the point where I now buy yarn elsewhere and am looking around for other spots to buy beads & paint. The worst part is that I rarely if ever see anyone shopping in the aisles with the new materials, while those of us trying to buy yarn/beads/paint are crammed into single aisles. The thing that made me finally write a review is the horrific self-checkout area! When they first converted the original checkout area to self-checkout, I chalked up the horrible set up to the fact that they just pulled out the registers and tried to make that original space "work" (it did not). A few months ago, they had a fire and had to literally tear it down to the studs and rebuild the interior. What a great opportunity to redesign the layout of the self-checkout area to be more user friendly and ergonomic! SPOILER ALERT - they did NOT. It is the same hot mess that it was before the fire! You have to put your handheld basket on the floor and keep bending over to get your items...the small bags are now bolted to the counter (so no sliding it over to wedge your basket up there) and they are too far away from the register, making you do this little side step thing the whole time you are checking out (left-right-left-right)...the large bags are below the front of the register and anything you place in them drops all the way to the floor...and if you have a large cart it is always in the way of either you trying to check out, the person next to you trying to check out, or the other people trying to get past you. PLEASE hire a professional to come in and redesign that whole area! read more

HA HA. I started this review Jan 2013. As i wind down on Yelp 100 Challenge, its only fitting this be one of the final once I complete. In the course of a year, I've had college degrees framed. Planned numerous get together and purchased glue dots and today, purchased Christmas ornaments, ribbon, and flowers all for 70% off. Thank GOD for smart phones. While sometimes, i get too many text alerts, I look forward to Michael s annual day of 70% off Christmas stuff and probably forwarded the text message to 6 people today. Of course with it being this time of year, its sorta slim pickings, there's hardly any Christmas trees left, which doesn't bother me, cause I have four Christmas trees on hand at any give time. I allow my daughter to come up with her own theme every so often and for some reason this year she wants to decorate in black and silver. She was able to come up with some goodies for her tree, but with it being slim pickings there are some boxes of ornaments I will have to track down tomorrow, because as odd as a black snow Christmas idea is, she was only able to find one box of a particular ornament we both agreed would be fitting. If you have the app or subscribe to emails there are weekly coupons, normally they are for full purchase items, but sometimes there is a good day, and you get like 25% off and it will include sale items too. I'm a scrapbooker, and I can always find something to buy. I have a sticker fetish when it comes to scrapbooking. Probably cause I can't draw, but can come up with some great ideas. They are generally 20-40% off. Sometimes 50% Ahh, how can I forget Valentines Day. This is my favorite of the Michael's chain to find items for that holiday. They have the best lil things that I do not always see at other Michael's. I've had things framed before, and I guess, I'm just one of those people that wish I could frame things myself. One of the college degrees I had framed was $170+ Personally, I thought. DAMN....why is it so much, but some people have told me that was average pricing. I then realized that I made my biggest mistake by getting the item framed during a time when they weren't running a promotion. This review is for Michaels' custom framing only. I wanted to frame a poster for my office and a coworker recommended Michaels to me because the store always seems to be running various discounts on its framing services. I stopped by the store during my lunch break, walked to the back where the framing department is, and saw signs for 60% off custom framing with the purchase of a custom frame. I wanted to frame poster art that measured approximately 29x17 inches. The pricing structure can get complicated quickly since there are many factors to consider: size of item to be framed, type of frame, type of glass (regular reflective or non-reflective acrylic), matting style, etc. Another factor I had to decide was how the poster was to be set inside the frame. At no charge, they would use some type of adhesive to secure the poster inside the frame. If I were to ever remove the poster from the frame, the adhesive might damage the poster. The alternative, which cost $10 extra, was to place the poster inside the frame without adhesive. This way, if I ever wanted to remove the poster from the frame in its original form with no damage, I could. I went with the latter. I ended up choosing from among the most basic frames and framing options. The original price for the entire service was just over $200, but the 60% in-store discount knocked it down to about $85. Wow, I can't imagine paying full price for this. If you ever get anything framed here, be sure to take advantage of a discount. Call ahead and ask the store or look for coupons online. Nate G. assisted me with my framing and he was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. I had to wait 10 days before my poster was ready. Payment was due up front. The final product looks great. The last time I was inside a Michael's store it was with my grandmother a few years ago. Needless to say, I'm not a crafter... however, there's so much more to this place than just arts and crafts. As Daniel B. pointed out, they do custom framing. I made a note to self for that because Edward L. and I have some portraits I'd like reframed. Depending on the price and turnaround I might just bring them here. Everything else you could think of using to decorate your home or make custom memories is available at good prices. For Valentine's Day, my spouse said he wanted 3 things - a cheesy balloon, a cheap box of chocolates, and a scrapbook. Kroger helped with the balloon and I got the chocolates at Walgreens. It must have been my lucky day because scrapbooks and photo albums were on sale 40% off. I got him a great baby blue cloth covered 12x12 that's expandable. I think he likes it because he's already been playing with it tonight. As the saying goes, happy wife, happy life. I think I definitely did well for our first Valentine's Day together. read more

I am not a big arts and craft person, but I decided to expand my skills. I am not sure what exactly I was looking for, but once I was in there, I was excited! It seems to be your typical arts and craft store. Paint supplies, faux flowers, knitting supplies, baskets, decorative boxes. I was happy because I found some picture frames on sale. Unfortunately when I got it home and took off the plastic wrapping it was broken along one edge. I went back to exchange it and had no problems with the exchange. The cashier was pleasant and helpful and I can appreciate that. They also do customer framing as well. Always check the website as they have coupons you can pull up on your phone. I been in there twice and its been a fine shopping experience. And they seem to like running sales. And that for me is a two thumbs up. read more

As an artist, designer and crafter, I am already a fan of Michaels. After the boxes I'd shipped to be did not have what I'd expected, I needed to replace some items so that I could get started with my Christmas items. My friend say that Michaels was here in Atlanta, so I found one that was about 17 miles away. There is one closer to me, but after reading the reviews from the locals, I chose this one because I needed to stretch my wings and there is a Ross located in the same shopping center. There is also a PetSmart, T.J Maxx and Marshalls....jackpot. However, after spending my budget limit in Michaels, I will need to visit the other stores next week. This Michaels had a few things that I wanted, but not everything. There was a specific kind of paper that I was looking for and they did not have it. They did have the Martha Stewart 24 vial glitter set that I was looking for and I managed to get enough textured paper to get me through for now. I will be returning soon to peruse the holiday items. This Micheal's sits in my favorite strip mall in the city - there is an Ulta, Petsmart, World Market, Ross, Rack Room, Marshall's & T.J. Maxx's all together in one place. Talk about one-stop shopping. So I stop in this store fairly often for school project supplies or for basic yam for my quick and easy knitting projects. Now, don't get me wrong, there is no great quality yarn here - just the basic acrylic blends and some fancy novelty yarns that I occasionally pick up on sale. However, on a hot or miss basis, I have come across decent basic cotton and wool yarns - I just never know if they'll have them the next time I stop in. I have noticed this Micheal's is smaller that others I have been in, but they always have everything I'm looking for - I've never been able to figure out what it is that is missing from this store that they carry in the bigger stores. I placed an order online with some items that were available at the time, then I receive an email 3 days later saying the store was out of them item and that they were canceling my order. How about you pull the order from the shelf the day the order is placed (and when it says available) to avoid that problem of not having it or running out of the item. "Good news, everybody, we're extending arts and crafts time by four hours today." -- Happy Gilmore (1996) I'm a crafter and therefore I visit Michaels all the time. I mostly shop there for baking items - they have all the Wilton items, including pans, icing colors and all the accouterments you might need to make the perfect cake. Right down to cake boxes and boards for the perfect presentation! I also buy lots of ribbons here for making tag blankets for my friends when they have babies as well as picking out yarns for my mom when she needs to crochet baby blankets, sweaters, booties and the like. Their selection is usually pretty good and they do a decent job keeping the store well organized and straightened. The staff is pretty friendly and occasionally someone will come by and make sure that I am finding everything. But the queueing system is a mess. No matter what, I end up in the slowest line when I am buying 2 things. People cut in front and aren't courteous - it's annoying and the staff just ignores it. Overall, other stores do a better job keeping order - this store I tend to visit because I am passing by. read more

I went to this Michaels to get some new picture frames. I'm not a big arts-and-crafts person, so I can't comment too much on the rest of the store, but the framing department was okay. They had a lot of frames to choose from, but they were pretty expensive. There were sales, though, and a person who works there advised me to come back the next week when the frames I wanted would be half off. I went back to get my frames, but I needed 8.5"x11" rather than the more common 8"x10". Most of the different colors were sold out by the time I got there. I was able to get them at another Michaels, and I converted some of my images to 8"x10". Overall, this is an okay place. The staff was nice, but it was hard to get someone in the frame section to help. They had an okay selection if everything was in stock. I wish I could comment on the rest of the store, but really my only experience was with frames, and I ended up happy, so I can't complain! read more

Please don't take anything you value to Michaels. I brought a WWII era flag to be framed. They explained it would take a couple weeks. After 6 weeks of promises and missed deadlines, I received the framed flag. They had ripped it in several places, put it in backwards and its unable to even be hung on a wall as it would rip further. After several discussions with the managers and employees, they decided to fully refund my purchase of over $1,000, but now I'm stuck with the flag ripped in several spots and having to have a professional reframe it. By the way, their cost was about $1,800 originally, this wasn't supposed to be a cheap frame job. read more

When it came to pick up materials for our masks for an upcoming party I knew this was the place to come. Every time I come into a craft store my inner Martha is called- they have all kinds of crafting supplies including silk flowers, model kits, wedding materials and TONS of frames. For my wedding last year I bought some lovely ivory hammered paper to make invites (I used my calligraphy pens and my hands hated me afterwards). If you sign up for their rewards emails I frequently get coupons for 20% off regular priced items. This store in particular is well stocked and I was asked if I needed help my three different associates- that took me by surprise in the best sort of manner. I got a plain base mask and bunch of other fun glittery stuff for ideas. Dan got his handkerchief for his mask. Their prices are competitive and my coupon helped. Went over to the dollar tree in same shopping center for the last item I needed. It's still not an A.C. Moore but it's the best store I've found in the ATL so far. I am a student at Kennesaw State University. Among my colleagues Michaels already has a notorious reputation for being the possibly worst place you could go to for quality materials, rivaling even Walmart. It's well known on both KSU campuses that Michaels is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to supplying artists. Yesterday I purchased 10 large mat boards for a portfolio project I needed. When I asked the Associate in the back for assistance cutting them, she ensured she was "much too busy" and couldn't cut them. So I simply took the boards and left. This morning, I returned early to get the boards cut because I assumed at such an early hour on a weekday they surely would not be busy. I walked in and went straight to the back desk to ask again. When I arrived, I sat patiently for a good 30 seconds while the two associates at the desk continued their conversation like they didn't see me standing there. Once they finally decided to address me, she first tried to avoid cutting the boards by slyly stating they had to be from Michaels. Once I showed her my receipt and explained that they were indeed from Michaels, she assured me she was too busy to cut the boards and attempted to return to her conversation. I was in disbelief. Too busy to cut my boards yet making no attempt to work on what has you so busy! And to be so bold as to dismiss me as such! She then told me that if I wanted them cut, I could go to staples for better service, the nearest staples being 10 miles in the opposite direction. A Michaels employee telling me to go to a rival store for better service?? This is an absolute professional embarrassment! I will absolutely NOT be returning to this store, or any Michaels, for the remainder of my professional career. I will also suggest that my peers and professors do the same, although I'm sure it won't take long to convince them since they likely have had similar bad experiences with the quality of service here. Call ahead, only to have them pick up and hang up immediately, without a word. Arrive to find them out of stock, and employees unwilling to help locate items (employees roaming the floor, mind you). Avoid ordering online for In-Store pickup. I've done this twice and won't be doing it again. On the website, it'll say the item will be available for pickup that same day. Then, after 2 or 3 days of not receiving any notification that the item is ready, you go to the store to figure out what is going on (and hopefully pick up the item). When you get there, you ask why the item hasn't been pulled aside since you placed the order, and they tell you they're really busy. So you ask them if you can just grab the item yourself and they can change the status on the order to say it's ready for pickup. They say they're unable to do that. In this weird explanation, they say the system dictates to them when they can grab the item off the shelf, even though they just gave me an explanation that the reason they couldn't grab the item from the shelf was because they were too busy. I ask if they can just cancel the order, so that I can walk over, grab the item myself (both times, the item I order was in plain sight from the cash registers) and then purchase it at the register. They tried to pull up the order to cancel. In both instances, this was a struggle for them. After a while, they said they THINK they were able to successfully cancel the order. They also said that, if they were unsuccessful, the order would be cancelled anyway if I just don't come to pick up the item for the online order. Well, not only was the order not cancelled, but Michaels then charged me AFTER I didn't pick up the original order (which is exactly what they said would NOT happen). In both instances, I was in the store close to an hour trying to get the situation resolved. And, after getting the notification they were charging me for the online order they messed up (after I already purchased the item in the store in a separate transaction), I probably spent another hour each time on the phone with customer service trying to get it sorted out. If you're worried that an item may not be available by the time you get to the store and you're tempted to order for store pickup, resist the urge. It will turn into much more trouble than its worth. read more

GREAT OPTION FOR HOLIDAY BAKING SUPPLIES! This store s small compared to other Michaels locations. However, I was looking for a sizable gingerbread cookie cutter. After checking several stores, I realized that Michaels would be a good option as they often stock holiday baking supplies. They had exactly what I needed and the gingerbread man came with cutters for accessories so that you can make sunglasses, a necktie and other items. Even better, I was able to pull up a coupon on my phone so that I received 40% off my purchase. Yay. Don't forget to use your coupon for those items that are not on sale. read more

Being an artsy crafty type of chick I love this kinda store of course. The staff is so nice. I've taken classes there before and thoroughly enjoyed myself. There is an abundant of supplies for whatever your hobby or passion is. They've got cute knick knacks and nice sales on a daily basis. You can also use competitors coupons so you can come out really good most times. The staff is always so helpful and friendly. The store is laid out real well and you can easily maneuver and find stuff. I always seem to spend at least an hour or so in there finding all sorts of goodies. Let your creative sides kick in and visit them for all your special projects. You're bound to find whatever it is you're looking for and then some. Lol read more

MISLEADING ADVERTISING! I have shopped at Michael's for years for all my art supplies (and I use a fair bit!) but now I'm done. I'm on their email list and receive coupons regularly. I've never used one until yesterday when I discovered their coupons are VERY misleading. The coupon reads "20% off Entire purchase including sale items". The fine print reads"Excludes everyday value program" which is almost everything in the store. I shopped yesterday and bought a lot of different things, thinking I would get 20% off. Out of the entire order only one item was eligible for discount. This is very misleading. No one knows what "everyday value" means, of course. So they are legally right, but the advertising is very misleading, by design. I am disappointed and angry. I have been a Michael's customer for a long time. Now I have to rethink this. I can order things on line from other sources just as easily. read more

My wife & I came in to get matting & glass cut for 3 separate 5x7 pictures for a gift over a month ago. When we placed our original order, the Michael's employee working the framing counter was less than friendly and seemed like she wasn't listening to us. This became apparent when we arrived 2 weeks later to pick up our order. (2 weeks is their standard turn-around time) We discovered that not only did she get the order completely wrong, but we were also overcharged $40 because the employee ordered something we never asked for. She told us it would take an additional 2 weeks to get the corrected order in, and was still less than friendly. When we arrived today to pick up the order, they almost got the order correct but for some reason they gave us black picture mats instead of the white mats we had ordered. Unfortunately we didn't have the option to make them re-do the order again a 3rd time, as it was for a thank you gift that was already a few weeks late due to the store's original mis-order. I would not suggest using this store for any of your framing needs, as the employees working that area do not seem to have any experience nor did they seem to care less. read more
