Horrible customer service experience tonight with Lisa and the manager on duty. The only positive employee was Emerson, who genuinely tried to help but was told by Lisa and the manager not to assist us. It's sad to think of other customers having to go through this kind of treatment. I came in around 8pm and at 8:30pm asked to have fabric cut--30 minutes before closing. I was told they could only cut three fabrics due to it being so close to closing time. We had wanted 6 fabrics cut but decided not to push the issue. Lisa cut two, then stopped early to begin closing down the store. At 8:53pm--still before closing--she refused to cut the last fabric, claiming it would take "5 to 10 minutes" to cut one piece of 3-yard fabric. That excuse is absurd. Measuring and cutting fabric is basic service, and there was still time left before the store officially closed. When Emerson stepped up to help, she was directly told by Lisa and the manager not to serve us. This was after we had already spent about $150 on fabric and other items. Refusing service to paying customers who are well within store hours is unacceptable. I understand not wanting to keep staff past closing, but when a customer is in the store before closing time, they should receive service until that time--not be dismissed early. Tonight's interaction was dismissive, unprofessional, and damaging to Michael's reputation for customer service. I will be escalating this to Michael's corporate management, because I believe the company would not condone the way this store treated its customers. read more

I've never had an issue with this Michaels until I tried to get something framed. I'm in my early 20s, but was going to get something custom framed for my parents wedding anniversary which I was prepared to pay quite a bit for. Instead of helping me, the woman at the framing desk kept reiterating how expensive it was, showed me where to find frames myself, and acted as though it was impossible for me to pay for the framing process. Took the wrong exit on my way to Flat Irons and ended up in front of Michaels which was perfect since I was looking for some decent yarn. I ended up picking up a plethora of house decor for a buck each since they were having a 90% off sale. Sic! I really need to stop watching TLC and HGTV. They give me all these artsy ideas that rarely turn out the way I plan, and inevitably lead me to a Michael's. For me, the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Michael's is: "where the heck are the employees?!" You can never find one. You can stand at check-out for 10 minutes and still no one will appear. Seriously, Michael's needs to rattle some managerial chains and get their employees customer services oriented. The other thing about Michael's is that it gives me the heebie-jeebies, so much in the store reminds me of the cutesy, crafty crap I see when I go back to Indiana and visit Amish Country. Only really old people can get away with making and owning anything made with calico, wood bobbins, or dried flowers. Puffy paints bring back memories of an awkward childhood, so these should also be banned. read more

I work here, so whoever wrote the last review can stick it. When we're working, we also have to be doing about 40 other things, plus the store is gigantic. There is ALWAYS someone at the front registers when i'm working. I love this store because they have tons of stuff. Granted, the stichery aisle doesn't carry Stitch n' Bitch, but I'm working on that. Also, you wouldn't believe how crotchety people can be about their crafty stuff. It's supposed to be FUN, people!! You're supposed to enjoy it, not scream at the employees because they don't have exactly what you're looking for every time! I love working here, and i love shopping here. The environment is warm and friendly and it's the only craft store I go to anymore for that reason. My experience with them has been far better than it has with the Michael's on 30th in Boulder. Staff member that helped me was very grumpy and said they had no lace at all when i had actually seen a small selection in the store. i then heard her teasing my accent (i am from australia) to another staff member and laughing because she thought i was saying lice instead of lace... very unprofessional. Myself and my two friends walked out even though we had full baskets of products and we will not be going back. Chris M is the guy to go to for framing. He has an incredible eye and great color sense. His suggestions are spot-on in terms of creating a special look for a piece. Plus he's very friendly and patient! He worked with me on framing a line drawing and a vintage poster. I wanted something that would really complement the pieces, not only because they are nice art but also because they have a great deal of sentimental value. The results were stunning -- great combinations of color for the multi-layered matting and frames that are unusual but keep the focus on the art work. My husband and I were so pleased that we immediately brought in a third large piece. We both appreciate how creatively he can work within a budget. read more

The thing I love about this Michael's is the staff members (most of them)and the fact that they take all competitors coupons. The only thing I wish they would do different is maybe put a sign on the front door with a list of competitors coupons. When I used them they had no idea what they were so that would be most helpful.
