'Welcome Home'...can't sum it up any better! I've been eating here on and off for over 40 years; it hasn't lost its charm and appeal. It's primarily been for breakfast--and their delicious specials. You can't go wrong with the breakfast combo: two pancakes, two eggs (cooked the way YOU like), two pieces of bacon and two pieces of sausage...Whoo!!! Slamming!!!!! Out and about, me and my husband decided to stop at Michael's for breakfast. I haven't been here for years, but heard the food was pretty good. First thing I noticed was our waitress was not wearing a mask. This really bothered me, but took a chance and stayed anyway :/ Second thing I noticed was a open salad bar. I haven't seen open food bars for a couple of years. People were going up to the bar, filling their plates, touching the same spoons and forks , I was so shocked and surprised! Clearly there are no Covid precautions here! Anyway on to the food. I can't remember the names of the platter but I got 2 big pancakes, scrambled eggs w/cheese, scrapple, and coffee. The pancakes were very good , nice and fluffy and flavorful. The eggs were just ok. I could not believe they just slapped a slice of cheese on top of the eggs! The scrapple was pretty good. It was hot and crispy and a big portion. My coffee was just warm, but the waitress did not hesitate to get me a hot cup. So the coffee turned out pretty good. My husband got a meat lover's omelet, hash brown and coffee. Only complaint I heard from him was the hash browns were a little hard. I must say they give you lots of food for your money. We couldn't finish our food and brought it home for another meal. Our waitress was very nice, friendly and informative. I could tell she's been working there a long time. (Just no mask). Looking for good diner food and we were pleased with our experience. Victoria,our server, was great. After explaining that it was our first time she took a few minutes to explain the menu and the specials. She was funny, and attentive and a true pleasure. Wife had the turkey club which was stacked with meat and a lot of bacon. She liked it. My daughter had the early bird special of broiled salmon which came with a side, salad bar and a cup of soup AND dessert. She loved it. I had her soup which was hearty and perfect on a raw November afternoon. The soup was chicken rice and I would get a bowl of it next time. I got a grilled cheese with bacon. Lots of bacon. It's been a minute since I've eaten at Michaels. Honestly, I never thought that highly of it. But, things change as time moves on. Friday night, mom's didn't feel like cooking. So we ordered and I picked up our dinner platters. Damn, the Fried Shrimp were huge. The size was really surprising for this type of establishment. They were deliscious too. The collards were cut nicely. Not too chopped and not huge leaves. Really well seasoned, and rice. The entire platter comes with soup or salad choice. I can't front, it was really good. Michaels reminds me of the Greek delis that were on so many corners in Manhattan over 20 years ago. The menu is quite extensive and it's open 24/7. I was here after flying cross country and leaving the airport after 10 pm. The food places at the airport were closed. I am allergic to eggs and cheese, so it always limits my menu choices. I wanted to have the veal, but it's dipped in egg before it's breaded. I had a burger and sweet potato fries. The burger was huge and flavorful. It was on a nice bun with iceberg lettuce and tomato slices. A quarter of a dill pickle was also included. Surprisingly I did not like the sweet potato fries. Unlike the sweet potato fries I get in California, these were a light yellow color, not sweet and mealy textured . Our friend told the waiter and he quickly brought me regular fries. They were very good--crispy twice cooked. The ice cream looked good and the portion was generous. Coming from California, I was amazed at the value. The burger was less than $6 with regular fries! The NMT has a good friend who attends Arcadia University. A few weeks ago, in the time I'm beginning to think of as "The Before Time", he asked for a ride to go visit his friend. Sure. The Patriarch came along. I figured we could get a meal after we drop the NMT off before returning home. It was a beautiful, sunny, crisp spring morning. So, off we went. Michaels is directly across the street from campus, so it's perfect for what we wanted to accomplish. There's a traffic light right at their corner, so easy to turn into, and you basically turn into their parking lot, as the road dead-ends just after them. The restaurant is decently laid out, with the typical counter service, a salad bar, booths and an area with tables. We were seated promptly and menus provided. The Patriarch got the hot open face turkey, I got the chicken fingers. Both were delicious, and both came with the free salad bar with rolls. Service was excellent, very attentive and friendly, and patient as the Patriarch told his stories. He's already been back since that visit, and I would go again too. read more

I have got to speak about my recent experience at this diner because it was truly disappointing. I ordered breakfast with a side of "scrapple". Well, that scrapple came so burned that it appeared to be a worn shoe sole! I sent it back to my dismay it reappeared more burned! In the region of the USA where diners originated, Michael's is your typical Mid-Atlantic diner. It's also one I really like for a couple of reasons. The first is that Michael's is a very friendly place from the moment you walk in. This is true even if you are not a regular customer. Second, it serves as an inexpensive but hearty eatery for such a cross-section of people. Literally all walks of life hit-up Michael's at some point or another - from the college kids at the University across the street to the lonely old man living alone in a nearby apartment to a family out for an inexpensive meal. Fortunately the food adds to its pleasant atmosphere. I recently had a bowl of tasty lobster bisque followed by an ample and delicious gyro sandwich accompanied by fries and slaw. This all came at such a low price that I was amazed. And my server Allison was as friendly and multi-tasking as an excellent waitress should be. This is a solid, reliable diner for when you're craving some home-cooked, reasonably-priced diner food. This is the local college diner right across the street from a University, so you will see many students frequent this place at all hours of the day... and night! One of the nice things about this diner is the hours which stretch into late hours of the night ( But is no longer 24/7). I have been to this diner many,many times, and I have never been disappointed in a meal here. They always provide a solid meal for breakfast,lunch, dinner or dessert! Obviously this is no gourmet meal, but as far as diner food goes - it's a dependable eat! The staff here are always kind and when I went in for my birthday , they even sang "Happy Birthday" when they brought me my cake! They are often quieter, but always helpful and always kind! I don't understand how this place has such low reviews. I am new to the area and I come from south philly where the diners are plentiful. After many trips to the trolley car I discovered this place and how exciting that was. The food here is actually real. Classic, standard, diner fare, with huge portions and a salad bar to boot. I've been about 3 times now at different times throughout the day and service has always been standard. Nothing to write home about but also nothing to complain on. It's a diner not a five star establisment. Everything I have tried so far has been delicious, hot, and fresh. Servers were able to make suggestions on their homemade soups and what dinner specials they enjoyed most, its always good when the servers eat there. It is as it looks. The food here is REALLY hit or miss, so be careful what you choose. For example the chicken croquettes are disgusting. They look like huge fried turds swimming in a pukey-snot sauce, and they taste horrendous. I mean, REALLY bad, not even tabasco or Sriracha the holy grail of all sauces could redeem that steaming turd of anus. So why the 4 stars? In general, your rule of thumb at Michaels diner is, stay away from platters, head towards sandwiches. They do a surprisingly tasty cheesesteak, their chicken parm sandwich is quite tasty (although their chicken Parm itself is unpleasant, but not inedible). I love their hamburger club as well. Michaels does some great french fries, they're definitely coated with flour and possibly some sort of bread crumbs before being fried, which results in glory. These fries are crispy on the outside, while being pillowy soft on the inside. Michael's is what it is, don't expect the greatest food of your life. They make solid, decent, food, that will satisfy you, and scratch that itch.
