It tasted similar to a lot of ramen spots around Austin, nothing super unique but still good. They serve it with a slice of butter on top which makes it extra creamy but also makes it feel a little too heavy if you try to finish all the broth. I just love a big bowl of yummy ramen from this location. There is plenty of parking, and you can get it to go. We each had our favorite version of broth and protein. Mine was regular michi, chicken with egg. We also ordered edemame as a side. I had their Assam milk tea, which was just perfect. He liked it so much he had to order some for himself. My dish arrived and there was no additional noodles on the side. Which made me wonder if my kaedama was actually included or not. I'm pretty sure the staff here doesn't know their own recipes, let alone how to cook in general. I've eaten here 4 times in the last 4 months and it has been "meh" every time. Any dishes with whole chunks of meat (IE: karaage, curry, etc.) Is severely overcooked and bland. The ground meats are cooked better but still severely bland, and underseasoned. Every single time I have eaten here I got the takoyaki, and twice u got okonomiyaki fries, once the hot dogs. Every single time they were missing all the toppings their menu lists. Im actually shocked at how consistent they are with just not putting everything on your plate. Remember. The price of your food was calculated assuming everything is put on there, they are actively scamming you. Twice I ordered a rice bowl and got just.. a side of karaage with no rice or toppings. Again, scammed. The only thing that I recommend from here is the korokke, and even then it's pretty bland, and the okonomiyaki sauce has been a different color, consistency, and taste every time I've been here, which is.. very odd. I've given this review a lot of thought because I don't believe in leaving reviews that are sub five stars without constructive criticism. For context, I do know how to make my own ramen broths. And I come from an area in California known for very high quality ramen. My husband got the dipping ramen. I got one of the more basic ramens. My ramen arrived completely foamy. When I flagged down the waitress to ask why that was, apparently they're using some sort of hand mixer to mix the broth. That's a huge red flag to me because a really good broth shouldn't have to need such aggressive mixing like that. Perhaps it was to get whatever pace they were using properly mixed but again, I have never been to a ramen establishment that needed such an aggressive shaking of a broth. It was also a little bit too salty but other than that, the meat tasted great. The broth would have tasted great if it wasn't a little overseasoned. The meat and my husband's dish was well prepared and had a nice barbecue flavor. However, after all is said and done, we paid almost $40 for ramen that was okay and he didn't improvement as far as technique is concerned. It seemed that other reviewers of this establishment feel the same. I suggest creating more processes regarding the expectations of a good quality broth. This is Austin. Don't let the abandoned look on the outside of this establishment to run you off. The food was great. I have to be super careful of my diet and Ramen is not on that list because of the soy in most dishes. The server tried to comfort me on no soy in a couple of their broths (it tasted way too yummy to be chicken broth only). The dish I had (chicken broth) was amazing. Makes me disappointed in regular Ramen from a package, The runny egg could have been cooked a tad bit more but other than that tiny complaint, it was amazing. My husband liked his dish also but the "lean" pork was too dry for his taste. When I found Michi, they claim that their chicken and beef broth doesn't have any soy items in it. So, I decided to give it a try... the worst I could have is stomach problems, so why not?, So far is been 35 minutes and I'm still not sick. I ordered the Karaage Don (Chicken) bowl. It was huge! I was expecting a moderately sized lunch, but it filled me up and I actually had leftovers. It tasted great, the only thing I could suggest is to make the chicken pieces a tad smaller/chopped smaller instead of the 5-6 palm sized pieces I got, just because it was a bit difficult to eat rice and chicken at the same time. The cashier was super sweet but to the point, they have free water set out if you'd like some! I went in at around 3 pm, and the shop was empty. Also, there is a strange unpleasant sewage smell. There were multiple flies that were very disruptive and persistent. I ordered the michi ramen with diced chicken and a soft boiled egg. The soup was okay but not as rich or creamy as preferred. I also had matcha mochi. It seemed like it was in the freezer for quite some time. The conditions of the restaurant overshadowed my dining experience. I would have much preferred ramen from a different restaurant. I tried Michi Ramen's vegetarian ramen and I was very pleasantly surprised! I usually get a Shoyu broth whenever I order ramen so I was nervous when getting the Miso broth. I feel like vegetarian ramen can sometimes be bland, but this one was honestly so good. It was full of flavor and even my boyfriend that doesn't like veggies agreed. I am also not a huge cabbage person and thought about asking to get it without. But I am really glad I tried it. The flavors were unlike any I've had in ramen before and complemented the noodles really well. I also didn't mind the tofu skin which I hadn't tried before. So, unfortunately the service is slow and tables & the floor are not clean. Now to the main character, the food. It's kind of hard to screw up this simple dish....but...when my dish finally arrived it was lukewarm and half was warmer than the other side of the bowl signaling the dish was not fresh and was most likely reheated in a microwave. We ordered the Michi, which is their classic ramen bowl. It says the choice of meat is included, but we found out later they charged $1 extra for pork belly, which was not indicated on the menu. They also charged $1 for chili oil! Most restaurants like this have the chili oil bottle ready to use on the table. The ramen was fine, but there were definitely not enough noodles for the price. My wife and I went here for a date night and were sadly disappointed by the whole experience. The restaurant itself looks very worn down and wasn't inviting at all. The person who took our order didn't seem too interested in being there either and seemed annoyed at any questions we had. The food itself was sub par at best and the only stand out was the takoyaki. While it was a bit overcooked, it wasn't to the point where it was foul tasting and there was a good amount of sauce. We also tried the burnt ends for pork and chicken which were swimming in a literal pool of grease. They were also doused in a heavy amount of salt and were practically inedible. The broth is super thick with strong katsuobushi flavor! The noodles are flat kinda like linguine which is odd but it's nicely cooked and chewy. The ajitama and onsen eggs are good (yes I need two eggs im an egg lover) the charshu are nicely grilled and standard toppings with wood ear mushroom scallion and seaweed. Service is nice. However, the ambiance is very poor. Not because that it locates in a supermarket, but the bathroom stench that permeates the place. They are OPEN for dining in! I really wanted to give it another shot so I came back to try the hot-right-out-of-the-kitchen experience and it was pretty good! Food was tasty, we got calamari salad, michi ramen and sapporo ramen. I have to give them the praise for this menu setup because it makes sense, it gave people choice for what they enjoy and what they don't want to get charged for. I love that now I can choose to get pork belly instead of ground pork, and all of the options are clearly presented in the menu (unlike the misled information on take-out apps). Staff was very helpful and attentive, it seemed that they were short of people though, so there was only 1 lady running around, but she did great! All the food we got were tasty, price was reasonable and quickly served. I took 1 star off because it seemed to me the dining room was not completely done yet. Tables were still stacked up on the other side, light was dimmed, a bit too dimmed that we couldn't really see all the ingredients in the bowl if we sit on the wrong side of the light bulb.
