When the broken thing is finally fixed, it's not a surprise when, gosh sir, it ended up being more expensive than we expected because of blah, blah, blah. Modern Mower is clearly doing it wrong: 1) I dropped off my snowblower on Saturday. 2) They told me it would take about a week and a half for it to be done. 3) They told me it would cost about $125. 4) On Tuesday, I got a text telling me that it was done, and it only cost $42. Holy crap, man. This is amazing. I almost want to drop something off that doesn't need to be repaired, just so they can get more money out of me. I feel guilty about how cheap and fast it was. Just being open on Saturday would've been enough to attract my attention. But, seriously, if you're taking your mower or snowblower anywhere else to be repaired, you're probably getting ripped off.

I brought my Windows laptop to the service department to assess problems with the Thunderbolt 4 port. I paid $50 for the assessment. When I received the machine back, the tech notes indicated that he had examined only the USB-C port, not the Thunderbolt 4 controller upstream. I was not happy. I called the service manager, Damian, to tell him what happened. Damian not only refunded my $50 but told me to bring my laptop in the next day for a Thunderbolt 4 assessment while I waited. The assessment was done quickly and Damian himself explained the results to me. I was very impressed at how Damian took ownership of the original mistake and took steps to make it right. I plan to make Micro Center my go-to store for computer purchase and repair.

Things have changed a lot in the last 7 years, though, and I was just stumped. I always like giving my business to local places, and I liked that they had the word speedy in the name. Sure enough, they got back to me quickly...to say that there was damage to the motherboard. Oops... I guess I'm not the computer expert I thought I was. I figured this was going to be where they try to sell me an expensive motherboard, but I was told it would be cheaper if I ordered my own. While I didn't enjoy having to spend the extra money, I still had a smile when I realized that my computer was in good hands. Once I got them the new motherboard, they basically had to build an entire computer from scratch, because everything connects to motherboard. But, they cut me a deal with the price. It would have been a couple hundred dollars more if I handed them the parts and ask them to build it. Everything works beautifully now. And, I enjoy talking about geeky old-school computer things with the people there. While I don't like to admit that I can't handle things, I know where to go if I have any issue with a computer.
