This was part of my search for the perfect Southern California Carne Asada Burrito. Pictures above. Parking here looks like it can be painful. As specified on the outside of the place, it's actually a restaurant. You can buy food to go though. Burrito ordered so-cal style. It was pretty decent sized, nothing HUGE, especially for almost $5. I forgot to get a shot of the inside of the burrito. It was filled with lettuce. I guess I wasn't specific enough with the "only carne asada, salsa, and guacamole." Anyway, I think that may have ruined it for me, I hate lettuce in burritos more than beans. It did come with chips and salsa. The burrito tasted ok. Lacked guacamole and especially salsa inside, meat was big flat chunks, not really diced, kinda chewy. Stale chips, onion heavy, perfect salsa. Chihuahua in a pink and white polka dot sweater with chartreuse trim eating cooked chicken leg bones when I entered. Tv blaring Spanish commercials, lil dust in the water glass, love it so far. Carne Asada! Perfect, well done, large thin rib steak, not too thin. "Keto" Dynamite. Ordered no rice or tortillas. Honestly, I am shocked there are any bad reviews for this place at all!. Everything I've tried so far has been great. Their carne asada is my favorite in Portland by a long shot. Also, everyone that works here is super friendly. Do yourself a favor: ignore the bad reviews and get a burrito from Michoacan. This is what I wrote to Restaurant.com in regards to a certificate I purchased from them and attempted to use on the same day at Michoacan Mexican Restaurant: "I WANT MY $25 CASH BACK FROM EITHER RESTAURANT.COM OR MICHOACAN MEXICAN RESTAURANT!!! I exchanged one of my older certificates today for a certificate to Michoacan Mexican Restaurant for dinner this eve. NOTHING on the certificate stated any restrictions other than a minimum spending of $50. I called earlier in the day to make sure they were accepting certificates and the girl said yes. We ordered our meal (which they even charged us more than the menu prices!!!), ate and then went to pay (we had ordered an item to go). When I showed the older lady my certificate (mind you, she was our waitress, cook and cashier...the husband just sat there doing NOTHING), she shook her head and said she doesn't take them. She stated she canceled her certificates with RESTAURANT.COM. She kept repeating that I had to pay the full price or she could give me a $5 discount. My total was $51.65!!!!! I was suppose to receive $25 off!!!!! I WANT TO BE REIMBURSED FOR MY $25 EXTRA CASH THAT I HAD TO INCUR FOR YOUR SELLING OF AN INVALID CERTIFICATE! I HAVE ALL COPIES OF THE RECEIPTS SHOWING THAT I PURCHASED IT TODAY AND ATTEMPTED TO USE IT ON THE SAME DAY! Someone needs to make this right!" Overall, the place was a train wreck. We were the ONLY TABLE in the place and it took FOREVER for our "waitress" to take our order. It was more important to stock the beverages in the coolers. After finally taking our order she went off to go cook our food....mind you, the husband just sat there doing nothing the entire time. We finally get our food and it was tasty. We will give them credit for that.... Oh, the tamales were dry, DO NOT ORDER THEM. I'm from San Antonio and cook texmex/mexican food and know good food vs horrible food. The food was decent. The poor thing is that I would have written a half way decent review about the place if it wasn't for the lack of "service" and being treated like crap and over charging me along with NOT accepting a VALID certificate that entitled me to $25 off. So this hole-in-the-wall place is a mixed bag. It's has indoor plastic seating and they tiny TV is fixed on a Spanish channel. The owner/chef speaks very little English. BUT the food is great and the prices are fine. Most items are ten bucks or less and can feed two. They also have lunch dishes that are around 7. I always get the Camarones a la Diabla (Devil Shrimp) which is perfectly spicy and full of large-sized shrimp. They also ask if you want corn or flour tortillas, so gluten-free's like me can chow down. The rice has some veggies in it and has "Pe-gow" which is the part of the rice that sticks to the bottom of the pot-which many people like best. I now call for pick-up at least once a week. The owner is very nice too and they have some great college psychology books and toys in the front, next to the bouncy ball machine. read more

I don't understand what everyone is talking about. I've been here 4 times and each time I was overcharged, ignored, given the wrong meal, given poor service by an underaged server and given attitude. I keep coming back because I was hoping they were just having a bad day but no. 2 of the 4 times, food was plentiful but bland, the rice was cold and burnt and it was not what I ordered, (I'm a native Spanish speaker). I actually really, really love this place. Given, it doesn't feel like the most healthy mexican food ever. But that is not really was mexican is known for, anyway. I have tried a LOT of mexican restaurants in Portland, and a lot of them are bland AND pricey. This place has simple, home made mexican food. Most plates are about 7 dollars. Their salsa and tortilla chips are THE BOMB. (I really like viscous salsa, some people don't.) Also, their rice alone is not fantastic. However, put together with beans and the tortilla chips is mmm, good! I recommend their Enchiladas, chicken. Always good. The owner does not speak much english, but that does not stop her from making you a damn good dish. And her kids are super cute. One thing I don't enjoy is their TV set on the Spanish channel. I picked up dinner to go the other night and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm from Texas and I am constantly in search of great little places to grab tacos, ceviche, etc. I ordered a sope (not on the menu), an al pastor taco and a carne asada taco. I paid $6-something. When I got it home and opened the box, there was so much food! The tacos are served in perfectly homemade corn tortillas with diced tomatoes, onions and cilantro. There was also a large side cup of roasted salsa verde. The tacos were good but the meat was a little dry, although well-seasoned. The sope! Wow, it was delicious.....fresh farmer's cheese, lettuce, a slice of red, ripe tomato, meat, beans and topped with fried potatoes. Yum! I will be definitely be back! read more

My husband loves this place. He is very picky about his mexican food. This is very authentic. Good portions for a fair price. We come here quite often. Today my husband had the menudo and I had Machaca. The owner kept the fresh tortillas coming. The place isn't fancy by any means so don't let the outside steer you away. It is always cold inside the seating area. Be prepared for that as well. read more

We went on a Monday evening and let me tell you food was gross, no flavor and cold and apart from that there were ants everywhere. Love it!!!!! So delicious. The refried beans and Spanish rice are some of the best I've had in Portland and I eat a lot of Mexican food around here! Even just a simple bean rice and cheese burrito always hits the spot and is only five dollars. Do yourself a favor and come here!!! This place is great. The service is good and the food is inexpensive. I love their homemade tortillas and the barbacoa. The only thing is that some food items can taste a bit bland, like the rice.
