This place is legendary and we finally got to stop in. Old school, no frills, diner with vintage vibe. It's a simple, limited menu but they do what they do really well. There is no fryer so no fries or onion rings but they do offer a bag of classic Lays chips in case you need that salt or crunch. Strawberry and Butterscotch malts/shakes are amazing and I think a must. We each had a double cheeseburger with the works (ketchup, onion, pickle). Note: you can also request butter or mustard. On a road trip and really wanted BBQ. With BBQ in the name, was hugely disappointed when we stopped and discovered this place doesn't have BBQ! Burgers were decent but nothing special. Place is cash only so be prepared for that (ATM on premises) and it can get crowded at peak times as the inside is very small. read more

Mickey-Lu's has been my favorite burger place for at least 50 years. Recently, however, the burgers have become inedible, and I don't use that term loosely. The buns used to be so good that I felt sorry for other burger places in the area that didn't know what they were missing. Now the buns are so hard and dry that they are almost impossible to chew. I hope the servers are reporting on what customers leave behind. If it's just me for some reason, then mea culpa. It's been a long time since I was here and I felt I needed to update my review. I stopped in yesterday and service was top notch. We were joyfully greeted by the ladies when we walked in and seated ourselves at the bar. They were busy, with lots of to go orders, so it took a bit to order but they let us know they'd be with us soon. We ordered hamburgers and a cheeseburger and they arrived quickly and were hot and delicious! We were at Mickey-Lu's several years ago and it was the best! It was a place we knew we wanted to go back to one day. It's a couple hour drive from where we live and recently we decided to take a ride back. This time our experience was only OK. This burger was cut in half and the meat was so-so thin. Each half was only 2-3 bites and gone. The meat was so small and thin that even the taste wasn't significant. The pie was a great, small piece of flavor, to go with our meal. We do plan to go again. This time, we will order double burgers, so we can taste that charcoal meat and we will order them "do not cut" so they stay juicy. We will have a small piece of pie, to complete our meal. Been in Marinette a week for business and this is the place for good lunch! Charcoal fired hamburger, cooked to order and the line, on both visits was out the door nearly. Excellent flavor, hot sandwich with your choice of toppings, chips and a drink.. $10. Seriously... $3 burger, $2 drink, $1.50 bag of chips. Order 2, their small on purpose, one isn't enough but 2 is just right. Locally made bun, pleasant service and not in your face! I asked how long one of the girls had worked there, 24yrs.. same burger. Owner is cooking them at the grill and they are running around helping everyone, never missed a beat... order was perfect. GREAT BURGER! We came in thinking we were going to have actual BBQ, however, we discovered that this is a place that serves BBQ type items. We had cheeseburgers and they were so good! They aren't big, but they are really perfect! You taste a little of everything in each bite - burger, grilled bun, and condiment. Also treated ourselves to a chocolate malt. Got the cheese burger and a malt with a bag of chips. I have to say, if you think your getting a half pound burger, did you look at the price? For under $3 your not going to get a huge party, get the double then. I'm honestly shocked people reduced stars for this. The malt was very good. I liked the butterscotch but my wife drank all of the strawberry one. I got a taste and it was delicious. The chips were potato chips. I wasn't expecting anything shocking but they were good. Kind of like making a trip to see the Wizard of Oz. Really cool as long as you don't look behind the curtain! In this case I mean if you sit on the side that has the shake machines. If I had to guess they must just clean them at the end of the day. I hope! (See pics posted by other reviewers). Otherwise everything is pretty good! Burgers are tasty, but have a lot more bun than burger. I would recommend ordering the double burger. If I had to have more burger than bun this would be the place however.... Great buns! I will bet that if you ever have driven by this place you will say "that place looks like it has great burgers". Don't be confused by BBQ on the sign, there's no shredded beef here. I drove past Mickey-Lu's on UP trips for almost two decades before stopping in for the first time last year. I'm a big fan. The burgers are not huge so you may want to get two (or try the brat!) but they are cooked right in front of your face on an old charcoal grill. I was visiting my family in Carney MI. and decided to drive to Marinette to check this place out. It's great. I ordered the cheeseburger all the way and thoroughly enjoyed it. This aint no "craft" burger, this is a classic, mid 20th century backyard charcoal grill burger. It's served on a Zemal roll, which I have never had before, but was a perfect companion to the beef patty. I love walking in and smelling the the food sizzling on the charcoal grill. Oh the nostalgia! This place is a blast from the past, and way before my time. There are so many rare things to ogle about here. The owner, Chuck Finnessy, is almost always working... the charcoal grill. Play a song on a 1950's Jukebox. Order an Old Fashioned Malt with your Butter Burger. This place is famous for doing things the old way. Cheeseburgers are about $1.50. A double cheeseburger is around $3.
