This place is great and easily competes with online sites such as newegg or tigerdirect on prices without having the shipping cost. They have a lot of staff on the floor which makes finding things or answering questions very easy. The service line can take forever and it's usually only staffed by one or two people. The employees in the service department do an amazing job handling everyone's problems without getting frustrated , I know I would with the things I overheard while waiting in line. I had some fans installed on my fiances computer...yea I was very embarrassed to bring the subject up to them, but no smirks were detected! One of the techs was walking by and even showed us a previous install he did and was very knowledgeable on the subject and helped with the fan configuration which was awesome. Unfortunately the fans didn't light up her PC like I hoped, but that has NOTHING to do with microcenter or the install. I plan on installing some strip lights to fix that problem. But hey, five fans are greater than two, so it's a win win situation. If people want the service line to run faster I suggest you come prepared because the employees are very patient and are just trying to get all the information possible to help you. For example; if you have a password on your computer and they need to access your computer...you might want to have your password ready for them instead of taking a few minutes debating wither or not you have one or what it is. The checkout line gets backed up very easily too, maybe microcenter should introduce some kind of card scanner instead of taking several minutes to go over your personal information. Wife got a Apple Watch that was on sale from here as a birthday present from a family member. She goes in the same day to exchange it for a different color and was told and we expected it to have cellular service on it like the previous color. The sales person ensures her that she will have everything the previous watch has on it, just in different color. Next day after the purchase (we let it charge before updating and everything) we find out there is no service on it! She goes back to talk to the manager (Sharok) today and he said we have to pay an additional $150 for the service. Not only that he was rolling his eyes and constantly cutting her off mid conversation/dismissing her request to talk to the sales person. GRADE F CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Either the sales people don't know about the products being sold or the manager is trying to pull a fast one on us. She decides to just return it so we can get it at the apple store and their check out systems are down. Looks like their system is down a lot based on previous reviews I read. Pretty sad with so many technicians there with certifications to fix that type of thing and its constantly down. read more

There was a problem with the motherboard (I got it Open Box) so I brought it back in for them to take a look. Yusuf in customer service listened to my problem and made it 100% right. Recently purchased an open box monitor online. Items were missing including power cables. Although the item was discounted, there was no mention of the online posting about missing cable or power cord. Typically when you buy an open box item from other big box retailers, the item includes a power cable. You should expect to be able to turn the item online let alone have the ability to. I realize that micro center is not what I would call an upscale computer store, however there is nothing left in the entire East Coast that could compare to it regarding your choice and availability of all computer parts, graphic cards, routers, cpu, memory, monitors, accessories cables, stands, laptops and anything else you could possibly think of for IT. The advantage of the store is I can actually see the product and check the specs to make sure it's going to work with any computer pieces that I already have. I could not do this with an online site such as new egg or Amazon. It's a laid-back atmosphere but the sales staff of always been helpful and I still always go out of my way to the shop here for any computer related purchases. read more

I have been going to Micro Center my entire life starting with when my dad used to bring me along when he was purchasing things for his IT business. It's one of the last sotres I enjoy browsing in person at and brings back nostalgia every time. It's the ONLY brick&mortar store to go to for computer equipment in the D.C. and surrounding area. It is also a PC gamer's paradise. That all being said, I would suggest doing your own research or bringing a knowledgeable friend when purchasing here. There are select salesman here that are very knowledgeable however there are a few who are no better than used car salesman. Some places to be particularly careful are accessory pricing. Many cables here are extremely overpriced and you can probably save 50% or more on Amazon for the same or better quality. However, pricing on PC hardware, PCs, laptops, and TVs can be very competitive and often beat online stores like Newegg. Again, come here informed and you will do well with your purchases. Probably the only other complaint is that I walk out on small purchases when the line is too long. (not gonna wait in line to purchase a $5 Pi Zero and a Bawls yo) What keeps me spending money at MicroCenter is a great PC hardware selection, hobbyist things like 3D printing, VR, Raspberry Pi's and Pi accessories. I often bring friends and family to make purchases on big ticket items because Micro Center has a good selection and fair pricing. When I do make big purchases, i'm usually able to find associates who are helpful. I hope this place doesn't change too much in the future and does not neglect it's hobbyist customers. If anything keeps me coming back on a regular basis, it's all the cool shit to be honest. I look forward to parting together a PC in a shopping cart rather than browsing Newegg. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Good pricing also. Only issue.They got my email address and now spam me. I try to unsubscribe but their system does not work. The mail preferences page never boots. They also never answer their phones at the store and voice mail system is intentionally evasive I think to prevent proper consumer contact. That is a bit of a scam. Have been on phone multiple times with them for 10-15 minutes each time trying to reach a proper person because they do not have extensions listed, no proper consumer contact system. Its funny i walked in and no one asked me if i needed help i litterally spent $2k in the store and basically had to beg for help. maybe it was because im young and was being prejudged but eventually i started getting good service and they noticed i was spending actual money. I did return the next day because my motherboard was faulty but that happens and the same men were there this time it seemed as if they were rushing to help me and upsell me on all of the expensive products. On the last visit I used the pickup at store option. It was responsive though that section of the store was understaffed. MicroCenter seems to turn off the phone so you cannot call in this time of year, which is frustrating. I asked the Front manager, and he said that the reason why they do this is because they would rather have an extra person at the registers that answering phones. I wish they were changed us. Been going here for many years. Bought my most recent computer here. The store is well stocked with computers, printers, accessories, pc and Apple stuff. They have a good magazine and book selection. Not a full B&N place. I got a very good price on an SSD for upgrading an older laptop. I prefer this store over most online sites. The sales staff has always provided good advice. read more

Ive built a few computers from parts purchased here. This is a great store with great selection and very good prices when on special. The greatest advantage is that if parts dont work or conflict with your computer you just return them - no postage. The second best thing is the people working there. They are very knowledgeable. I went in for a new WiFi usb dongle (my old one wasnt working well) and the person that helped me knew which type worked best with my particular FIOS router. My internet speed literally tripled. There have been other times when they recommend different upgrades on my builds that increase performance and reduce cost. Really helpful and timesaving. read more

This review is related only to customer service because I like the store. On Friday I went there to leave my laptop in the service center. It was approximately 8:40ish pm. The store is open until 9:00 pm. However, I wasn't expecting this kind of treatment. The young woman (that has long hair and wear glasses) asked me: "how can I help you"? I looked at her and said "I need service repair" and she looked at the young man (that was in the room (the extended room in the service center) and said "What the F***". Her tone and loudness were clear for me to hear that! Here is my point, if the store is open until 9:00 pm I could go there and request the service, and if she is not happy and willing to help customers she should not be working in the place where she needs to interact with customers. The guy that spoke with me was very kind and helpful. My computer is working well but I can't believe the rudeness some people have towards others. I did not deserve to hear that! read more

I took my MacBook into MicroCenter because Apple Support made an appointment for me there when they could not assist me further remotely. Initially, I was really impressed -- no lines and crowds like if I'd gone to the Apple Store Genius Bar! The check in process was pretty smooth, except that apparently none of the information collected by Apple Support, that was supposed to be transmitted, had been, but that was an easy enough fix. The ticket I received said to expect a call within 3 days. A week later, no contact, so I called the store. Granted, it's over the holidays, so I imagine things move a little slower. The person who answered the phone checked and told me my computer hadn't even been looked at but he'd have the technician who came in next day check it and call me. Another week later, still no call and no one will even answer the phone. Super annoying that the local phone number that I call is answered at a national call center, so there's no way of getting in touch with ANYONE at the store directly. Extremely poor business model. Two weeks in and not even a diagnosis.... read more

Have gotten things that don't work at times, but this isn't the fault of the store, it's the industry and cheap components being built overseas. My brother owns a home computer set up and repair business in Texas. We've been going to Micro Center there and here for years. It is a one stop shop for everything electronic, computer or otherwise. Their prices can't be beat. I bought two computers here and the service on them is excellent. If something needs fixing they will often do it under manufacturer warranty for free. Even water damage. Great place. I love coming here for computers, games, Apple stuff, etc. fun times. read more

Pros: Micro Center has very good prices. It's nice to know that not all computer parts will break the bank. Cons: - Long Lines: I waited 30 minutes in the returns line with one cashier working on a Sunday and waited another 30 minutes in line to check out with not all the registers being utilized. - Disorganized Store: It's nearly impossible to find what you want. The store is always messy and the open boxed items are scattered across the whole store. - Pushy Employees: It's nice to know that someone is willing to help you but it's a little frustrating when the employees only approach you to slap a sticker on your product. read more

I went to micro center to make purchase for a laptop and a monitor. I am not a IT person, I was hoping someone knowledgeable would assist me. Ameen, one of the salesman he guided, spend two hours to understand my needs and worked with my budget. This guy is so awesome. I am so happy with my purchase. I have been going here, the one at Nutley st., for years primarily to buy items to use when I build my own computer. Due to the complexity of the parts working together and the combo CPU MB deals the prices are really good and you can walk out with a cart full of components and build a computer that same day at home. Its a candy store. If something isn't right you can take it back. I actually took my entire computer I had built back, removed the CPU from the socket, and returned it once I realized I could buy a faster CPU instead. The staff work on commission so make sure you get a sticker they give you pasted onto your product if you think they helped you! The pre-built microcenter brand "Powerspec" computers are a good bargain it and if you don't want to built it yourself have generally a good selection of parts for the price point. Be wary of some of the used/reburbished items - make sure to check the battery cycles on used laptops. The prices are two or three dollars above amazon but you get it the same day can return it so it is usually worth buying from a physical store here instead. Alot of products have multiple rebates. Only count the instant cash register in-store rebates, since you know you will never get around to cutting out UPC and doing manufaturer rebates and dealing with copies of reciepts. ALWAYS keep your receipt and box and all inserts for a while in case you need to return something. read more

Here's the deal. I LOVE microcenter. I am from the south so have never had the opportunity to shop such an environment. I have built, fixed and upgraded hundreds of my own personal computers and friends as well over the years. Microcenter is AWESOME as far as selection and usually you can find great deals on open box items etc. the ONLY reason I gave them 4 stars is their in store inventory does not sync up with the online inventory listed for their store. On a number of occasions I had stopped by to pickup an item that was in stock online, only to get to the store and they tell me they don't have it. Now I order online ahead of time and this has resolved the issue, however it does mean I have to go into the store to see EXACTLY what is available if I'm just browsing. read more

There really isn't another true bricks-and-mortar competitor left to MicroCenter. You go here for the added selection you can't get at a Best Buy/Costco/Wal Mart. The prices won't compete with an online retailer, but it's an added cost for getting it NOW instead of online shipping (two days or so). Consider if the timeframe is worth the added cost before you go here. The store selection and size is about twice the selection of one of the stores above, due primarily to the size of the store. This is a big box store that is primarily for computer equipment. I browsed for a VoIP adapter that they no longer had, and when browsing and comparing, I found I could save about $20 on another product that was about $80 by shopping on Amazon. The salespeople were knowledgeable and helpful, but it's a moot point if I can't get the dongle here and I can online. Evaluating MicroCenter for what it is, it is a mediocre to good store. You really should go here if you want a slightly esoteric item that is beyond the selection of a jack-of-all-trades store, but you want it NOW. If you don't mind the shipping time, Amazon beats the selection and the price. If you are looking for a widely available item in a physical store, a Wal-Mart probably beats the price, and a Best Buy probably matches the price. On balance, I would rate the store a 3 out of 5. read more
