When I first walked into MicroCenter, I wasn't exactly impressed. The whole store seemed to be a little outdated and run down- it could definitely use some remodeling. I headed straight back to the computer section because I was getting a certain kind of computer that was on sale. I ended up waiting over 15 minutes, obviously standing by the sales counter waiting for someone to help me. Finally, someone noticed and called someone from another department to come help me. After telling them the make and model I wanted, it took another 15 minutes for them to go find it in the back, even though it was a 'featured model' since it was on sale. However, things began looking up from there. The salesperson apologized for taking so long and walked me and the computer to the front checkout, where he excused himself to go get the manager to talk to me (standard practice here). The store manager came up and thanked me for my purchase and gave me his business card. I appreciated that- after all, I was spending more than $400 there. I also got a customer service survey from them a few weeks later- asking how my experience was. It shows that even though their customer service may be spotty at times, they are taking steps to fix it. read more

I have purchased three Apple laptops from MC over the years, each time as an open item because I can count on them to hook me up with the best deal around. My most recent purchase didn't go too well - the hard drive they recommended wasn't exactly compatible. It worked, sort of, but had some lag issues and I eventually discovered the problem after hours of searching the net. That said, their customer service was stellar as I worked through the issue and exchanged for different drives. If you want personal service that won't quit, this is your store. The staff is knowledgeable and HAPPY - these folks usually have been working there for years. Best Buy? FORGET IT. I'd give them negative stars if I could. In all honesty, my next MBP will probably come from the Apple store so they can upgrade the drive for me. But - MC will always be my go-to place for peripherals of any sort. And their Christmas deals are phenomenal. read more

I've shopped here frequently, even before moving back to Kansas City. The store is large and has virtually everything you need in electronics, software, computer books and manuals, and service. Sometimes it's not so easy to get help, especially in the Mac department, but when you finally get the attention of one of the house geeks they've always been pretty knowledgeable and helpful. Nice selection, great prices, and for the computer geek, this place is heaven. They should call it that - Geek Heaven. ;) Speaking of which, now, every time we visit KC, my husband must make a stop here. He always finds some reason for it. This time was for a Raspberry Pi. It appears as if this place has absolutely anything you might want or need for your computer setup - from iPhone covers and a Mac section of the store, to a bounty of hard drives and processors to "build your own" to keyboards, mice, and just about any cable you might need for connecting component A to component B. Coming from California, Microcenter is my Kansas City tech haven in which I wish Fry's Electronics is around to compete. Their website is easy to use and you can find which aisle the products are located in this store, unlike the Tustin California store. Customer service here is friendly and professional, no pressure or frills to try to make a sale. The only point off is how this store handled a flood of people in which their associates were too busy helping others. read more

It's not an aesthetically pleasing shop. It is, however, extremely practical. They have a massive selection of goodies and the staff is capable of directing you to what you need in an efficient manner. The folks on the payroll seem more than competent (and much better-informed than many at big box competitors). Microcenter is a price winner, too. Generally speaking, you'll find a better deal here than at most of the competitors in the area. The only reason I can't quite pull the trigger on a five-star rating is the fact that they are still more expensive than online options (Amazon, etc.). That's probably an inevitability for any brick and mortar operation, so I don't hold it against them. If you need to buy computer equipment and you can't wait for overnight shipping--or you want to see/touch the stuff before you plunk down your dough, Microcenter is a top-notch option. read more

I've been very impressed with the sales staff at Micro Center. For example, I found a rep who told me why I shouldn't waste the money on software that I didn't need. This was a big surprise. A sales rep who's look after my needs rather than making a sale. They're also good at quickly finding the right product at the best price. I recently had an issue and needed quick help. After working with a manager at the OPKS store and someone in corporate, the issue was resolved to my satisfaction (and then some). I really appreciated the quick response, the professionalism and the willingness of those in management and "higher up" to help someone with an issue that was not the fault of Micro Center at all. I waited in line at the knowledge bar for almost 5 minutes, decided to ask my question to a fourth employee. "do you repair screens for tablets?" Employee Behind the knowledge bar told me no. I love this place! The prices and selection and quality are all really great. I may find a better price online for some name brand items, but they usually have off brand items here that are much cheaper than anything online and it is easy to just go and get them. I love to go here and browse as they have so much to choose from. The staff is very helpful and friendly as well. The only thing that if I recall correctly that I was surprised by, is that they will not price match. Unless that has changed, otherwise it is a great place! read more

Pros: Great store! Great deals! Nice people! I have purchased three notebooks from Micro Center. The first two where amazing buys! The third notebook had problems after five weeks of purchasing the item. The exchange department was extremely helpful when I returned the defective laptop back to them. They fixed it for free! Cons: They are nice but like all business their first goal is to make money. The third computer I purchased from this seller had horrible reviews in many forums. Sadly, I bought it after the salesman told me it was an amazing laptop. It had problems five weeks later. I know this is partly my fault too. I should have known never to take a salesman's word about anything. Even if they are from the nice people at Micro Center. I'm young and it's a good expensive life lessons. So I would recommend this store to anyone. However, like everything in life, you should do your own research before you buy any products from this store. They will tell you what you want to hear to buy their products. Those products could be good or bad. Only your own research could determine that. read more

I came in, rather daunted, to try my hand at building my first PC. I had a list from PC Part Picker hoping to wind up paying somewhere in the same ballpark as what I'd found online. Not only did I find reasonable prices, but I was met by and exceedingly generous and knowledgeable associate named Scott Tobias, who helped me find what I needed without pressuring me into excess purchases or unnecessary additions. I could not possibly be more pleased with my experience. Every price was matched, or in most cases, was marked already cheaper. Wonderful experience. Highly recommended. read more

Normally the Overland Park store is great. I drive past Best Buy because the service here is always nice. Not yesterday. Asked the guy in TV about hooking up Chromcast to older TV. He said it can't be done and I needed to buy a new TV. I explained we spent thousands to buy it and even though it's old it still works well. Plus, the entertainment center is built around it. He just said "it is what it is. You need a new TV." Once he realized it was a small sale he had zero interest in helping me. He walked/ran away. Sad when an employee who is worried more about commissions than helping the customer. Stopped at Best Buy and found a very nice, very helpful young guy who said Chromcast can certainly be hooked up. I just need to go to Amazon and buy the converter. The one the guy at Micro Center said didn't exist. Bought the puck and ordered the $34 converter from Amazon. read more

My 4-year old Dell laptop purchased at Micro Center was having issues staying connected to the wi-fi and was shutting down, possibly due to overheating. I took it in on Memorial Day, paid the diagnostic fee and left it there. Long story short, the communication was poor, but after calling and getting not even an option to leave a message, I had to drive to the store to get an answer. The case had been cracked when they opened it and the part was on order. I asked them to also order the parts to do the original repair it was brought in for. That wasn't done, as promised, and I had to keep calling and was getting pretty frustrated by the time it was there for a month and nothing had been accomplished. Then one day I called and got a different technician who had taken over my laptop. Spencer explained everything carefully, answered all my questions, and kept in constant communication. He recognized that more money was being put into the repairs than the laptop was worth. He made me an offer for a new Dell laptop or a full store credit for the amount I paid for my Dell four years ago. He transferred most of my programs and all of the data, included an optical disc drive, since the new laptop didn't have one, and refunded my diagnostic fee. In short, he made me whole for the damage done to my laptop when bringing it in for minor repairs. I had to pay about $50 for the increased value of the new laptop. He even checked back with me a week later to make sure everything was working properly. He gave me suggestions to resolve any issues that remained. Spencer has excellent communication skills and knows how to communicate with the general public, who doesn't have as much knowledge, without talking down to them. He is empathetic and nothing I asked for seemed to be insurmountable. He had to get permission for some things to be included in the compensation, but I was comfortable that he was representing me, as well as, his employer. The first guy gets less than 1 star, but Spencer gets more than 5 stars, so I've averaged it to 4 stars. Spencer is a valuable employee that goes above and beyond to solve a problem. I hope you keep him, but I feel he is destined for bigger things. Treat him well - he deserves it. read more

You love the internet but trying to figure out if a 538 gigabeatle or a 1 terasaurous backup hard drive is a good deal or not... each time I go to Micro Center, the people there are helpful. It's probably part of the corporate culture, but every time I buy something for home or work, the General Manager shakes my hand. If I strike it rich and somehow lose all my friends, I will probably make several transactions at Micro Center because they treat me like family, and I'm always getting a good deal. I would not recommend this store to any female or any sane male. I went in today to buy a replacement battery for my Mac. The Apple section of the store is located in the back and has it's own counter. I stood there for a good 5 minutes before an associate came to the counter. The lady next to me asked if he could help her. He told her it was not his area & that he would send another associate back. A few minutes later another guy with long hair, a beard, blue eyes and petite stature showed up. We were both standing there & he never acknowledged us. I mean we were facing the counter looking right at him. Then a male customer walks to the counter & is immediately helped. The girl next to me has her hand in the air & is trying to ask the associate a question & he still didn't acknowledge her. Another male customer comes up to the counter & is helped immediately! Then another. Finally the guy notices the girl next to me and turns his head the other direction. She was annoyed and called her husband over. The associate immediately helped her husband. After that I was still not helped, another male was!!! I was so upset I went to another department to get my boyfriend to leave the store. While getting him I was asked immediately by 2 associates if I needed help. Unfortunately after being completely ignored by the long-haired associate for 15+ minutes I told them it was too late to help me because I was done with the store. I have never experienced anything like that in my life. Being a woman does not mean you cannot buy something. I refuse to be a patron of this store again. If they hire associates that don't assist female customers then they don't deserve to be open. Discrimination of any kind is un-called for! read more

i've shopped at micro center a lot over the last 15 years. things are generally pretty well priced. the staff is hit or miss. there are lots of younger guys eager to help, as long as you don't ask too many questions and are buying something worth their commission. the return policy can be rough (may have to fight for store credit even for unopened product with the receipt). but it seems to depend a lot on who you get at the counter. but it's a good place to check out for any computer or electronic need. read more

I usually like Micro center. However after looking for a computer part on line it showed they had the part I was looking for web site said that it is updated in real time. So I took the2 he drive to micro center to get this part. When I get there 10 min after opening I go ask for the part. One guy told me it sold this morning. I tell him it's still shows it's available on the web site. He just blows me off. So I find the sales manager tell him the same issue. He tells me " we didn't sell it yet today" so he goes and looks for it and it is no where to be found. He looks into it and tells me that it was a computer error. He tells me he will update the web site. However almost all day it still shows it is in stock. Finally disappeared later in the day. My suspicion is that an employee had it held back so he could buy it after his shift. Pretty sure it was the guy who talked to me first. Pretty upset to make a 2 he drive to get a part that was a error. read more

Micro Center has the best customer service out there. They have some off the most knowledgeable sale associates out there. I worked with Devon Peters for the most part of this visit as well as a few other associates, everyone is extremely friendly and willing to help you find what is perfect for your computer needs. I have been using Micro Center for over 10 years and i will continue using them forever. The so-called genius at the Apple store couldn't figure it out. My macbook pro, January 2008 purchase stopped booting, could hear the disk spinning but no picture. Made two separate trips to the Apple store and they told me the same thing, didn't know about the bad video card or the recall and told me too bad that I needed to spend $1200 someplace else to get it fixed. So off I went to Micro Center, they ran the same tests, told me about the recall and fixed it for free, cost me ZERO dollars. This is a great place to shop if the damn sales guys/gals would leave you alone upon entering the store. Does the sales people get commission? Or else why would they chase me around the store like they are Walmart greeters. Lawd! Bought a cheap tablet online from Microcenter and I was glad I did. Had to wait a little while at the online pickup counter, about 3-5 minutes, but that was better than the massive lines at the registers. Got home and the tablet had a defect in the screen, so I had to head back to the store. About 5 people in line for returns/exchanges, but line moved quickly. The exchange was pretty hassle free, just took a bit of time since they were so busy around the holiday here. They have lots of cheap tech stuff up to high end stuff. Definitely a place to consider if you are looking to purchase computer or other tech stuff. read more

This place gets 5 stars because there is no place like this in Kansas City. They have everything you need to build your dream computer and more. Best buy is dying and never did have this selection. The prices are reasonable. For the most part the sales personnel know what they are talking about. They won't read from the description card when asked, "Whats the difference between the two." Shop here a lot but it has been a couple of months since my last visit. Found out today that you can not run your debit card there anymore as credit. You have to enter your pin. I did not make the purchase and went down the street to their competition and purchased the same items. I refuse to let a retailer do this. read more
