Micro Center is my go-to place for parts and supplies. I've been building and maintaining my own systems for years and also help out friends with support on their PCs, so I'm often looking for obscure stuff. Rarely have I not been able to find something I needed - it's geek heaven. And they have an Apple department too! Less well-known: this can be a good place to buy TVs at good prices. If you watch their ads or get their mailer, every once in a while they seem to get in a pallet or two of some large-screen HDTV that they sell at crazy prices. Their customer tracking at the register can be an annoyance, as others have said. But you can avoid it, at least if you're paying cash. Just tell them you don't play that game. read more

Micro Center is not a store for the casual buyer. The shelving is packed close and high with loads of merchandise. I prefer to go on weekdays so it isn't as much of a Zoo. This is where I go when I want product in hand, I still like the feeling of picking up a product at the store. I find it best to go in knowing exactly what you want. Today I was able to locate helpful staff and I was in and out in record time. Prices are good and they have a wide selection of products to compare. A little under a year ago i bought a gaming laptop with the accidental damage plan. And it just recently crapped out on me.. i brought in the laptop while still underneath the accidental damage plan. Well today i got a email saying that i need to go threw msi for the warranty knowing full well i paid for the accident damage plan. Was excited to check out Micro Center. Attempting to buy computers for small business. Felt good when I left. Felt HORRIFIED after I hooked up my computer. I was LIED TO, I went in telling the tech what I needed, my specs etc. I left with the "deal of the day" apparently. Needless to say, I had to spend $50 on a piece at a local store to make it somewhat useable for my needs. Prior to that called customer service whom said I could drive an hour and for $130 they would upgrade me to what I wanted (note the computer I was promised for the price I had already paid) or drive an hour and pay $20 for a different part. I said no, this is ridiculous. I asked to speak to a manager who called back after 3 or 4 hours and all he could do is tell me he would talk to the tech that sold me the computer! INTEGRITY NONE. Very Poor Customer Service and Return policy. Microcenter's customer support center in ST Louis Park MN is the worst and should be fired (staff working on Saturday 1/16/16). I paid $30 for an accidental replacement plan so if this tablet broke Microcenter would replace it. Most stores provide quick returns Microcenter does not. AVOID PURCHASING FROM MICROCENTER or buying extended warranties, I'm going to use BEST BUY instead next time. I will never purchase from Microcenter again due to their customer service department. Yesterday I went to Microcenter to exchange my broken tablet and buy a better tablet (spend more money) but that didnt happen. I waited 20 mins in line to speak to customer service, then was told it would take 40 minutes to get my credit. I shopped around the store for 40 mins and then after waiting for customer service a second time in line, i was told 'it might be up to 24 hours now'... WTF! I paid $30 for a return policy so i would have an easy return, Why am i waiting? Horrible Customer service. I took my Mac Air to the Apple Store to have the battery replaced. Apple referred me to Micro Center to do the battery replacement because my Mac was an older model and they no longer have the battery in inventory. The Apple store ran a diagnostic on my Mac before I left the store and everything is in excellent order except for the battery. They also advised me to not pay more than $129 for the battery replacement. When I arrived at Micro Center I was told I had to pay a $49 for a diagnostic test, even though I told them Apple just performed one,. Then they told me that the battery would cost between $200-$300. I asked them exactly how much it would be and they said they couldn't tell me until after they ran the diagnostic test. I left and went over to Batteries Plus in St. Louis Park. They changed the battery for me for $129.00 without any B.S. I let the folks over at the Uptown and Ridgedale Apple Stores know what happened and to refer their customers to Batteries Plus. I brought my laptop in for repair. This was my first visit and I waited in the repair line for a half hour. When I called back after the diagnostic to tell them go ahead and to fix it - They told me the guy who was assigned to the repair was off duty and everyone else was busy. I explained that my son was in town from college and needed it by Sunday. They never offered up that they were closed on Sunday. He told me I should not hold my breath, no one will have the time to do work "assigned to someone else." So... no understanding, no laptop, and I know that if computers were scheduled based on first come first served I would have my computer. Terrible customer service. I stood around the Apple section for about 20 minutes waiting for help. Most of the time there wasn't even a sale person in the room. When there was, he was too busy to notice me or the other customers waiting to be helped. I wish I could give this store more than one star but it's not justifiable. I bought a laptop for my parents a month ago. The child that assisted us looked like he was 12 years old and talked a thousand miles a minute. My mother, father and myself had to translate everything the kid was saying because he talked really fast. We had to bring the laptop back to the store for a new one because a plastic piece broke off near one of the ports. They didn't give us a problem with the return/exchange for a brand new laptop but the process was beyond convoluted. First we went to one counter to tell yet another child worker why we were there. The kid sent us to a computer at a little table to sign in. After we were done signing in a sign said to go into this little room around the corner for help. We walk into the room, as instructed, there were three people in the room but no one had a name tag on. My father asked an older gentleman if he worked there. He said no. Come to find out the girl sitting in the chair who was just staring at us saying and doing NOTHING was the person that was supposed to help us. She helps us transfer everything on the laptop to a flash drive, hands it to us but doesn't tell us what we were supposed to do from that point. We go back to the first counter and he tells us to go to the counter closes to the front door. We got to that counter and have to explain AGAIN why we are there! Micro Center really needs to get their CRAP together. This store is only good for tech geeks NOT for the average computer user. bought a laptop in store. The specs for the laptop were incorrect. Of course the laptop was worse than the specs they quoted. I called there customer service, and they were dismissive and rude. Since it was the only windows 7 laptop they had in my price range i was forced to keep it as returning it would mean all the software licenses I used up on it would be gone. So instead of customer service switching out the part that was worse than the specs they gave (5 min job) they said they wouldn't do that. You go to Microcenter because they have a large selection of things you'd otherwise have to order from newegg or amazon and wait for shipping. The employees ignore you, are rude, and scowl if you approach them with a question. They are probably miserable and underpaid though. microcenter works for me, because they often have good prices on components, its quicker than mail order, and i know what i'm there for. gods help you if you need to talk to someone, though. there are a few really good employees who work there because they're awesome computer geeks, and a few who couldn't tell the difference between a stick of DRAM and a soldering iron. if you suspect that you're talking to the latter, simply press ctrl-alt-del on the nearest keyboard, and go find someone else. read more

This has become our go to store for all things computer! My husband and 3 boys know we can practicaly guarantee what we want will be in our hands when we walk out the door. But when purchasing large ticket items we shop till we drop. We always end up going to the stores specializing in the item we want. My Nikon DSLR came from the "all things camera" store. The laptop I'm writing this on came from the "all things computer" store. I have yet to get a better deal after downing the preliminary "shop and compare". My next adventure is to sign up for the workshops so I know I'm getting all I can out of my computer. I do have to go back to this store several times to make sure I get a variety of sales people telling me about the product I want. Some know more than others. read more

I knew microcenter existed, I just never went there. I lived in a world of Newegg, Amazon. Then I started gaming on my computer. Also Amazon started taxing in my state. Newegg was slower shipping after I ended my subscription for their 2 day through Shoprunner. Periodically, I would go in and get the next newest part(s). After realizing their pricing is quite competitive I have gone to the St. Louis park location many times in the last several months. Even tonight, as I researched headsets, I couldn't get it any faster than a few days out. Check MicroCenter: boom. I will be going there tomorrow for my headset. Their online inventory has so far correctly reflected what they have in store. All reps I have encountered have been helpful and pleasant and knowledgeable. There is really something to be said for 1. Instant gratification 2. touching what you are about to buy (such as their keyboards are either on display or you can open the box and take a peek). They seem to have pretty good sales as well, and I do not get spammed in my email. 1 Star stars taken away because their phone menu is ridiculous. I sat on hold for 20 mins+ for a tech because there was no working option to speak to sales at the time I called (always? not sure?). I didn't want to drive 30 minutes for nothing and simply had a question. The person I did reach, eventually, was very helpful. (and yes, they do Price Match Amazon/Newegg-- possibly depending on the manager from what I was told-- and within reason price-wise which is totally understandable.) read more

A couple weeks back I came into this store with an odd request that required some specific measurement/port requirements and I wasn't sure I would find what I was looking for, but I had heard good things so I decided to give this place a try. It took a little bit of time to find someone to help me because it was very busy there, but that wasn't exactly the fault of the store. Once I found someone, the employee was very knowledgeable, quickly pointed me to the product(s) I was looking for and presented me with a variety of options. I was able to explain my odd request and find exactly what I was looking for within 5 minutes, and the product itself has worked perfectly so far. They don't carry grapefruit juice, so you have to bring your own, but once you do, its a great place to talk to people about electronics. The sales people are usually very nice and great problem solvers, but given the extremely focused nature of the products and the culture surrounding them, social graces can be a little bent in the direction of mom's basement. read more

Associate Jake was wonderful. He spent a long time looking for an ergonomic keyboard and mouse presumably in stock but not to be found and definitely not where it belonged. He located a mouse on clearance that was just perfect and saved me considerable money. Having read the reviews, I knew sales staff worked on commission, but he didn't push a sticker on me. I had to ask for one. I hope he gets a raise for being so pleasant and helpful. By the way, at 3:30 p.m., the long checkout line moved quickly with four registers, including two temporarily opened to relieve the wait. We purchased an expensive gaming computer from them and had all kinds of problems with it. It kept crashing and rebooting. The DVD player didn't work. It was slow. It was a brand new out of the box gaming computer. Their telephone tech support told us to take it back. We did. It took over an hour for someone to wait on me and find a new computer. Then they made a mistake during the exchange and said W had to come back the next day to get it. We picked it up the next day. The next brand new expensive out of the box gaming computer also did not work. It was not the same problems. The usb ports didn't work. We took it back. They didn't seem to care in the least at the terrible trouble we had to go through during the time we had these two computers and the time they cost us taking them back. We got a refund. We are very unhappy with their products and customer service. read more

I think MicroCenter's customer service really sucks, and I don't plan on returning there. I bought a pair of psa to usb converters for my 2 mouse/keyboard combos. I took them home and tested them by flicking the mouse around. I then took them to work and found out the keyboard didn't work on either of them. I had thrown away the plastic covers they come in and the fat female manager at Microcenter in St. Louis Park, MN. said they would only give me another pair of the same lame converters and needed the wrappings to send the old ones back. They wouldn't give me a store credit or other merchandise. I threw the broken ones in their trash can and walked out. MICROCENTER SUCKS ! read more

This is the worst store in the cities for computer parts and it is, how unfortunate, the only one. I have been in here a few times, and the employees are lazy and usually trying to avoid you (the management is better in some cases). In the case they help you they don't! listen, I was in here three times looking for items that the employee walked off to look for only to see them talking with their friends later and 'could not find item' and then I realized i could order stuff for pickup. ha! half of my order was not found or rejected and it took over the amount of time they said it wood! I had a grant for $10,000 for new equipment but I think I will be going to (heaven forbid) Best Buy for the parts and service. At least they are two stars rather than one star! read more

Sadly, we had to go back the next day due to a missing cable for the monitor and a broken CD tray on the desktop. Hence only 4 stars. I purchased a PC and some other items to go along with the PC. Unfortunately I trusted the manager who I later concluded just wanted to make a sale. He strongly encouraged me to spend $99 for a virus protection program he claims was much better than McAfee or Norton. Later I learned this program is not even supported by Google. The computer is not the best either - it is an HP i5. It was supposedly brand new but it could have been rebuilt - hard to trust these people - I will stay away from MicroCenter and HP products the next time I buy any computer products. I also purchased an extended warranty - I doubt this PC will even last that long. They certainly do not inspire confidence. read more

My ma and I went to Microcenter for the first time on Thursday, June 9th, sometime in the afternoon. The first initial experience was great; the two employees that helped us were very helpful and aided us in finding the best computer to fit our needs. For her work, my ma needs to log in her daily reports through her company's website. Since switching computers, she encountered issues with saving her time worked on the new system. She called Microcenter, and they told her that she could either exchange the computer (since it was under warranty), or possibly just get help from one of their tech support people. This is where the one star comes in...we went back there today, and had the WORST customer service experience either one of us had ever had. This disproportionately rude woman ordered us to go into this tiny room and "sign in first!!" We both were hoping it wasn't her that was going to check out our computer, but lucky us, it was. After everything we were explaining to her, her responses became more and more condescending. She wouldn't even make eye contact with us. Her tone was demanding, foul, and unnecessary. We took out the power cord to our computer and offered it to her to plug in, and immediately we hear, "I DON'T NEED THAT!" When the computer was turned on, she spat, "SIGN IN TO THE COMPUTER!" We already DID! Do you want us to shut it down and do it again? What was worst of all with this whole encounter, was that she was making us feel like we were dumb. It did end up to be an easy fix, but that doesn't mean she had to be nasty through the whole process. The whole reason we drove over a half an hour out to Saint Louis Park, is because we needed help. Why on earth would we waste Microcenter's time, let alone ours, if we would have known how to fix it ourselves? I was so tempted to say to her, "Could we get someone else to help us? Someone a little less condescending?" After she fixed the problem, she had this attitude about her, pretty much saying, "Idiots, you should have known what the problem was." Excuse us for not being tech savvy. Not to mention, we are used to XP; windows 7 is a whole new monster for us. Not everyone is going to pull computer knowledge from thin air when it's not even something that we are used to. We went and found a manager and explained everything that happened: from the first encounter of her, to the whole uncomfortable "fix" she gave us. All he did was defend her, saying that he's "known her for eleven years, and has never heard complaints about her. She must be just having a bad day." The expression on his face just told me he wasn't going to do anything. If she's worked there for that long, why would he care now? Because of this woman, we never want to go back there. Before we exited that claustrophobic tech support room, I looked at her evading face and said, "Well, thanks for the friendly service, ma'am." We were flabbergasted for hours, and still are a bit as we write this. Don't go to Microcenter, and do not under any circumstances have Christine help you. There's better places to get help for your computer than there. I'd rather pay a little more to be treated like a human, instead of going there and being regarded as an invalid. read more
